?Cassidy’s POV ?

“I cheated on your father.” She blurted out.

My jaw dropped completely. “What?!”

“I didn’t want to but I had to do it.” She mumbled.

“Wait,I still don’t understand you. Are you saying that..you cheated on dad?” I repeated.

She nodded Yes. “With my boss.”

My eyes widened again. “But..but..why?” I stuttered.

“It was really complicated.” She stopped to study my expression. “Your dad had financial issues,we couldn’t pay the bills and rents and it kept piling up.”

“But everything looked fine -“

“No, nothing was fine! You were just to young to understand the situation of things. We did our best to not let our financial issues affect your education since that was the best legacy we could give as parents.” She said.

“So you resorted in sleeping with your boss to get money to pay the bills?”

“No..no.. I wouldn’t stoop so low to that extent.”

“So what really happened?” I asked.

“Your father was working on a million dollars contract which he needed money to fund it. He asked some of his relatives for help but they all turned him down because of me. They said I was a bad luck to him because everything changed after we got married. But that’s a lie! They spoke out of the fact that I was a black woman..bunch of rascist!” She clenched her fist as we lasped in silence. This is a whole new secrets. I never had the thought that mom cheated on my dad.

“I asked my boss to loan me some money but he was willing to give me on the condition that I sleep with him. I really wanted to help your father so he wouldn’t lose that contract he had worked on for years…so I slept with my boss.”

“So..he gave you the money.”

“Yes he did but things went wrong after that. I offered the money to your father but he refused it.”

“Where did you say you got money from?”

“I lied that I got a loan from the office..but then -” she paused,more tears splashed down her face. “He..he showed me a picture of me coming out of the hotel with my boss.”

“How..come? How did he find out?”

“He said one of his relative was at the hotel too..so he took a picture of us.” She explained.

“Your father felt betrayed that I cheated on him when he had been willing to stay away from his family just to be with us. He left home that night in anger and didn’t return.”

I recalled that day I had pestered mom about dad’s whereabouts but she told me he was too busy at the office. But only for him to show up with divorce papers the next day.

“So he divorced you because you cheated on him.” That didn’t sound like a question. She nodded. “But didn’t you let him know..you did it for him?”

“I was wrong.” She answered.

Oh! I flashed back to the day my cousins mocked me at the family gathering. One of them had spilled it that my dad divorced my mom because she cheated on him with a black man before another said dad had to because of money. Everything was true! But I was just too young to understand it.

“But you did it all for him.” I whispered.

“He couldn’t take it. I begged him to forgive me but that night he declared that it was over between us.”

“So sleeping with your boss was just a waste…”

“I returned the money and also quit my job hoping things would get back to normal but nothing changed.”

“During the process of pleading for a chance to see you,I found out that your father agreed to his brother’s condition to divorce me so he could fund the contract.”

“He should have forgiven you because you were only trying to help.”

“Your father hated me for it.” She wiped her face and came back to the couch. “It was all my fault. I shouldn’t have slept with my boss.”

“No,your boss shouldn’t have taken advantage of your situation.”

“I was the one who needed his help. I was desperate to save my poor husband but…in the end I lost everything.” She held my right hand.

“Believe me Cassidy,I tried to get you. I hired a lawyer to help me grant custody in court but I didn’t have a chance against your father. I was poor,didn’t have a job,so the court saw that as a good reason for your father to have you. I didn’t stop at that,I came back on your 5th birthday give you a gift at his office hoping he would let me see you but his men threw me out. He said he would never let a whore like me raise his daughter..and it was really painful to hear those words from him. I lost the battle when your father got a court order to restrict me from seeing you ever again.”

So she truly came back for me but father never mentioned it.

“I decided to start all over again. I relocated to another state where I worked as a waitress in a clubhouse. There I met a businessman named Mikel.”

My heartbeat fast at the mention of Mikel’s name.

“He had his eyes on me the entire time,so my boss asked me to serve him that night. We got together that night..and somehow our meeting continued. I told him about my past but he picked interest in my profession as an architect and said he would help me get a job. I was so happy not knowing Mikel had a different plan in his head. To cut the long story short,Mikel said he would give me a new life I desired so he bite me and turned me into a vampire.”

I knew the new life she wanted wasn’t to be a vampire but Mikel’s reason for turning her into one wasn’t far-fetched. He got too attached to my mom and wanted something more with her.

“After the transformation,I was angry. We had a fight in my apartment but he was too strong for me. And I had to accept my fate when he refused to let me feed for days. I was dying..I needed blood to survive.”

I reached out to wipe her tears. “Mikel told me everything about his world and part of me was kinda happy that I was more powerful than a human. I saw that as a perfect way to get you from your father. I told Mikel about my plans to bring you with me to his world -“

“So did you come back?”

Her face turned sour again. “No.”

“Why?”

She Seethed her teeth in anger. “On the day I was supposed to come for you -” she stopped.

“What Happened?”

“That bastard drugged me and brought me into this world!” She gritted and I rubbed her upperarm to help her relax.

“He didn’t want me to bring you here with us. He said it was best to forget about my past.”

“So you had to accept…”

She stood up from the couch. “No I was so angry! I wanted to end his life when I found out that I couldn’t leave to bring you!” She paced the room. “I hated Mikel for making me lose my last chance of being with you!”

“Is that the reason why you didn’t accept his marriage proposal?” I asked.

She stopped pacing to look at me. “How did you know?” She asked.

“The Emperor already told you about me.” She answered her question before I could speak up.

“Well…I asked him to tell me about you.”

“So how much do you know about me now?” She asked as she came back to the couch.

“Not too much..I know you’re married and you have kids too.” I recounted everything Caden told me.

“My son is 13 and I have a daughter too…she’s 10.” She smiled.

“I’m happy that you have a family…and I’d love to meet them.”

“Oh really?” She asked I’m a surprised tone.

“Yes mom!”

“My kids would be so happy to meet the Empress of Wright Imperial! My husband would be happy too.”

“Will you tell them about me?”

“He knows everything…”

“Your kids?”

“I didn’t disclose it to them. But I really have no choice now.” She carressed my cheeks.

“I didn’t think our Empress Cassidy Moore could be my child.”

“And I also didn’t expect to see you here too.” I replied when she hugged me.

“I am the happiest person on earth. It’s good to see you again.” She withdrew away from me.

“How did you end up here?” She asked.

I heaved a sigh. “Mikel brought me into this world.”

Her eyes widened in shock. “Are you for real?”

“Yes mom.”

“No way!”

“Yes way.”

“How did meet him?”

“I -“

“Wait you aren’t a vampire..so that means you went through the human cell torture.”

“Yes but I was rescused from being Mikel’s pet when Caden declared me as his mate.”

She gasped out. “Mikel wanted you as his pet?!”

I shook my head. “Yeah..he had his eyes on me the whole time until he did something bad to me.”

“Caden told me he sent Mikel on exile that’s why I agreed to come work on the site.”

I narrated the incident behind Mikel’s exile to my mom. She didn’t hide her anger towards Mikel.

“I don’t feel bad for Mikel,he deserved whatever punishment he got from the Emperor.”

“Well..I hope he doesn’t bring any trouble in the future because..it seems my life is connected to him.”

“Never! It’s just coincidence that he happened to be the one who brought us into this world and nothing more! Listen don’t bother yourself about him because he’s not worth it.”

I nodded in agreement. “I should get you something to eat and drink.”

“A cold glass of water is enough.” She said.

I went into the kitchen to grab a glass of water.

“Thank you.” She said when I handed her a glass of water.

“So enough talk about me. Let’s talk about you.” She dropped the glass back in the tray. “I need to know how you managed to capture the Emperor’s heart.” She winked.

A deep blush flamed my cheeks. “I guess.. it’s just Destiny or Fate at work.”

“Seeing the way you’re blushing..no doubt you love him.”

“Of course I love him!” I laughed.

“And it’s clear that Emperor loves you too. The way he’s willing to change everything for your kind just to make you happy and how he talks about you. Abeja would really like this place. Abeja loves artwork..this and that. Everyone who works at the site knows that Emperor Caden Wright is deeply in love with you.”

I covered my face with my palm feeling shy to even look at my mom. “Oh mom.. I haven’t felt this way before too. At first I didn’t know how to feel because it’s my first time of loving a man with all my heart.”

“Have you had any relationship in past?”

“No mom Caden is my first man.”

“And why is that? Like you didn’t date during high school, college and after you graduated?”

“Every man I met just wanted to get me in bed. They never wanted something serious with me.” I said in a sad tone.

“Emperor is different.”

“Do you think it revolves around the fact that he’s a vampire and he has to love his mate no matter how she looks?” I asked.

“No, Emperor Caden loves you so much.”

“I know Caden love for me is true. At first it was really hard to accept him but somehow things changed and I just started having feeling within me which I can’t really explain.”

“Love – that’s it. I understand how you feel.” She flickered my hair from my face. I nodded in agreement.

“Have you both talked about consumating your bond as mates?” She asked.

I shook my head. “You haven’t been intimate with him?” She gaped.

“We haven’t been intimate…ermmm just kisses. Caden said he’s willing to wait till am ready.”

“So what’s keeping you waiting? Oh my goodness! You don’t even have a ring yet too!” She exclaimed and stared at my fingers.

“I gave it back to him.” I explained.

“The Emperor is really strong be able to control his mating spirit and also wait this long.”

“Does that make me a bad person for keeping him waiting?”

“No child don’t think like that. You are not a bad person.”

“Well..I asked him to mark me once but he refused.”

“Cassidy,mate marking is something you do willing and not just to satisfy your mate in pain. Most especially the Human-Vampire mating.”

“Caden mentioned everything to me.”

“Listen you have a life here now so make good use of this opportunity.”

“That’s what I’m trying to do mom.”

“I am even happy that things are going to change around here. I never really like the unfair tradition established by the Emperor.”

“Likewise but Caden is working on reversing it so we can all live together in peace.”

“He’s mated to a Human so he has to change things if he doesn’t want to expose you to more dangers.”

“There will be a meeting in three days time.”

“The Emperor told me about it.”

“Caden wants me to be present at the meeting but I am really scared of facing those people again.”

“The Emperor will be there with you so you don’t have to worry about them.”

“What about you? Will you be there?”

“No Cassidy,I don’t own a Nobel title.”

“What if Caden invites you to attend the meeting?”

“I will have no choice but my presence there doesn’t mean anything.”

“You’re the architect incharge of the site.”

“Oh Cassidy..that’s not a title.” She laughed.

I’m definitely going to ask Caden to invite my mom. I want her on my side during the meeting.

The door opened revealing Kira at the entrance. I had been expecting her arrival for along time. I gasped when I checked the time – 4:05pm. Wow! I didn’t know time was fast spent! I really did a lot of catching up with my mom.

“Good afternoon Empress.” She greeted with a smile. “I’m really sorry I turned up late. The Emperor asked me to not resume until evening so you could talk to your mom.”

“Oh! Yes! Kira meet my mom. She’s also the main architect incharge of the site. Mom meet -“

“I know her very well.” My mom said.

“You do?” I exchanged glances with them.

“Yes,she is mated to the Emperor’s personal guard.” She replied.

Oh! Kira has lived her for a while so no doubt she would know the famous Architect but not as my mom.

“You both look a bit alike..looking at you closely one would easily mistake you for the Empress.” Kira commented and we laughed.

“Empress,I’m so happy for you.”

“Thank you Kira.”

“Let me go into the kitchen and prepare something delicious to celebrate this reunion.”

“Oh no Kira,that won’t be necessary.” Mom answered with a smile.

“Why mom? Oh no! Don’t tell me you are leaving!” I said with a sad face.

“I’m sorry Cassidy…”

“I hope I didn’t interrupt your sweet moments?” Kira asked.

“No..no.. I just need to see to the work at the site before calling it a day. We still have a lot to do and the Emperor wants everything done in a month time.”

“Okay.. so when will I get to see you again?”

“We’re together now, nothing is going to bring us apart again. I promise.” She hugged me tightly before pulling away.

“Extend my greetings to Caden,tell him I said he shouldn’t stay too late on the site.” I accomplained her to the door.

“I’ll send him off when it’s 7.” She laughed.

“Thanks Mom.”

“Bye.”

“Take care.” I waved her goodbye.

Lawson and Samson resumed their position in the living room after my mom’s departure.

“Someone is excited!” Kira grinned.

“Yes! Yes! Yes! I have alot to tell you!”

“Maybe after I do the laundry or you can gist me while I do laundry.”

“What laundry? I already washed them this morning.”

“Oh Empress you shouldn’t have bothered about doing the laundry. It’s my job!”

I threw my hands up. “Well I already did the laundry case closed!”

“Okay thank you Empress but I still need to change the bed covers.” She said.

“Okay.” I grabbed her hand and we both rushed off to the bedroom.
