We entered the suites quietly, neither of us knowing what to say. I just wanted to be alone and I appreciate the fact that Caden knew what I wanted without saying it.

I made my way towards the room,went straight to the closet to grab my nighties before heading into the bathroom to take a shower. I cried in the shower for a while before stepping out.

I wasn’t sure about my feelings. A part of me blamed my mom while another part scolded me for blaming her. Deep down in my heart,I had just one thing against her – she didn’t come back for me! She didn’t try to find me! And that hurts me!

Caden went into the bathroom after I stepped out. I took a seat on the heavenly bed,stared at the vase of roses on the drawer for some seconds before sliding under the bedcovers that always feels like clouds but tonight it didn’t give me the comfort I desired.

I closed my eyes to stop the tears that threatened to spill anytime soon. So many ‘maybe’s’ and ‘Why’s’ questions filled my mind. I was despised by my own blood relation. I’ve lived alone on my own and I had no one to call as a family and love. My father abandoned me to have a good life with his wife and kids just to satisfy his family selfish desires!

I remembered the year when a terrible incident happened at our home. That day I had taken my step brother Jeremiah to play in the garden. But Jeremiah fell off the swing while we were playing. He broke his neck and arm because the fall from the swing was a huge one. I could still recall the look on Juliet’s face that day. She hit me severally before taking her son to the hospital leaving just me at home.

Grandma came over to our home and I tried to explain what happened to my dad but Grandma accused me of trying to kill my brother. She called me a witch and stated that I was possessed and should be taken to a church for prayers and baptism. She suggested that my dad send me off to a Catholic Boarding School. I cried out that I didn’t want to attend a Catholic school but Grandma insisted that becoming a NUN would drive away all demons in me.

I really tried to make them see that it was an accident but no one listen. I knew all Grandma wanted was to get rid of me since she never wanted me in the family.

I never felt the joy of going home on holidays like other students. I stayed with my guardian Mother Theresa during holidays except on Christmas holidays. My father abandoned me completely. The only part he played in my life as a father was paying my tuition fees and sending allowance to my Guardian for my upkeep. He never showed up on visitation day with the excuse that he was too busy with work. And I kept wondering if I deserved all those treatment from him.

If my mom had stood her ground,got a lawyer for a legal backing to claim custody of me then…maybe everything would have been fine. But she did nothing! She left with just a promise to come back for me! I didn’t hear from her for two decades but only for me to find her in this world as a totally different being! A Vampire! Hot tears splashed down my cheeks as I felt warm arms around my body under the covers.

“Can we talk now?” Caden whispered.

His warm embrace was the comfort I need at the moment. I turned, buried my face in his chest and cried.

“Everything will be fine.” Caden whispered soothing words to me as he held on to me.

I nodded and rested my head on his chest. “How long have you know my mother?” I asked.

“More than a decade..” he replied.

“I’m wondering if -” I paused to think of my next words. “If she had always been a vampire before she had me.” I added.

“I am not aware Hannah once had a child. She’s a good friend of mine but we never talked about her old life before she became a Vampire.”

“What else do you know about her?”

“I don’t know too much.”

“How did she end up here?”

“Well… she’s -” Caden paused.

“She’s what?”

“Well Hannah is one of the many humans Mikel transformed into a vampire.” He said.

I raised my head to look at him. “Mikel?”

He nodded. “He brought her here the same way he did to me?”

“Yes but her case was different.”

“What do you mean?”

“Mikel already turned her into a Vampire before he brought her to the Imperial. He said Hannah would be useful because she was a good architect.” He explained.

Seems like my life was tied to Mikel!

“But I think it wasn’t just the fact that she was a good architect…”

“Then what?”

“Mikel felt something for Hannah but she turned down his proposal few months after she came to the Imperial.”

“They had a love affair?” I frowned.

“Yes Mikel chose her as his mate but for some reasons best known to Hannah,she turned him down. And that caused a rift between them. But with my help Hannah relocated to a remote pack where Mikel would never find her. She only came back few weeks ago when I asked her to help me with the site. And she only agreed to help because Mikel was out of the imperial.” He explained.

“Perhaps do you know if she’s married now?”

Caden looked straight into my eyes. “I shouldn’t be telling you these things. I feel Hannah is the best person to explain things to you.” He said.

I closed my eyes. “I just want to know…”

“That’s why I asked her to come over tomorrow so you can talk to her.”

I avoided his touch when his hand reached out to my face. “Why is it hard to answer the question I asked? Oh…well it obvious she had lived a good life not remembering the fact that she abandoned her biracial child in the hands of those who never wanted her!” I snapped at him.

Caden eyes widened in shock even I’m surprised at my outburst. I shouldn’t be doing this but I just can’t help it. I can’t control the emotions that was stirring within me.

I shook my head and fell back on the pillow. I shouldn’t take out my frustration on Caden. It wasn’t his fault that my parents neglected me. He doesn’t deserve to be treated in such manner by me.

“I’m sorry..” I whispered with my eyes closed as another round of tears flowed down my cheeks.

“No, it’s alright.” He replied.

I reopened my eyes. “I shouldn’t take out my anger on you. And you’re right about me finding the whole truth from her.” I admitted sincerely.

Caden leaned over and wiped my tears with my fingertips. “Please don’t cry..”

“I..I..just can’t help it.” I bit my lips hoping to control my tears.

“I’ll tell you everything I know about Hannah.”

“No..no..it’s -“

He interrupted me. “She’s married with two kids. Hannah found a human mate three years after she left the Imperial. And I think her first child should be about 13 or 14.”

So I have step siblings now! It wasn’t hard to count the years. She left 21 years ago because I was barely four years old when dad divorced her.

“Listen,I don’t want you to think your mom abandoned you.”

“Isn’t that obvious?”

“You stated it yourself that your dad drove her out of the house.”

“Yes he did threw her out of the house but she promised to come back for me. I was so little that I had held on to that promise. I waited and went through alot in the hands of my family. I wasn’t loved by anyone and I felt like being born into this world was a mistake. She should have tried to find me the same way I tried finding her on the internet. I even had her last picture framed with my savings in high school so I wouldn’t forget how she looks like..but she did nothing on he own path.” I sobbed.

“No..no..no..don’t say that. Remember I told you Hannah moved to a remote pack to protect herself from Mikel. We don’t use internet in our world that must have been the reason why you couldn’t reach her.”

I nodded in agreement. “You’ve always wanted to see her again and fate has offered you a chance. So put your grudges against her aside and give her a chance to explain her side of the story.” He leaned his forehead on mine.

“Will you do that for me?”

I nodded in agreement. “Okay..”

I knew my father was to be blamed for our separation but I was angry at my mom because she didn’t fulfill her promise.

“You’ll talk to her tomorrow right?”

“Yes I’ll talk to her.”

“Thank you.” He kissed my forehead before we both fell back in the bed with my head resting on his chest with his hands tightly wrapped around me.

“Goodnight Abeja.” He kissed my hair.

“Goodnight Caden.”

And soon I drifted off to sleep.

Caden and I got up so early to prepare for a new day. He has plans to have a meeting with the High Council before spending the whole day at the site. I on the other hand was nervous about meeting my mom. I have imagined what words I would say to her in the shower.

“Hi Mom,good to see you again after all these years.”
“Why didn’t you come back for me?”
“How do you feel about being a vampire?”
“I heard you remarried and have kids now…”

Blah blah blah blah blah! None of these appeased me so I decided not to ask silly question or say too much. She should be the one to do most of the talking.”

My heartbeat hard against my chest when Caden came into the room. He had offered to wait till my mom comes around.

“She’s here.” He said.

I paced the room for some seconds before stopping to look at Caden.

“I’m really nervous right now..”

He came to me. “I can see it all over you. But you need to calm down.” He held my hands and kissed them.

“Now.. breathe in and out.”

It was as if I was about to have a panic attack. I shouldn’t have agreed to see her this soon but the earlier the better! And also the whole of me was kinda happy to see my mom again.

“What should I say to her? I mean how do I greet her? Hi or hello? How have you been? Good to see you again? Do -” I didn’t realize I was blabbing until I felt a pair of lips on mine. Caden kissed me just to silent me.

And just when I was about to deepen it by opening up completely,Casen pulled away from me. I groaned in disapproval.

“I didn’t have a choice..” he smirked. “You concern yourself too much. Your mom is waiting.”

I sighed in defeat. “Okay..what should I say?”

Caden scratched the bridge of his nose. “I guess.. It’ll be polite enough to just say a greeting or just wait for her to say something to you.”

I nodded. “Are you ready?”

I breathed in and out “I think so.”

“Don’t worry everything will be fine. Let’s go meet your mom.”

Caden led me out of the room with our hands interlocked. My heartbeat rapidly at every step I took towards seeing my mom.

“Are you alright?”

“Yes,I’m good.” I smiled before we got to the living room.

My mom sat on the couch,her face down as she toyed with her fingers. She was nervous too,meeting her child after 21 years of separation was no joke.

“Hannah?” She looked up at us. “She’s here.” He added quickly.

She stood up slowly,a sad smile on her face as she called out my name. “Cassidy.” She said shakily.

Tears welled up at the corners of eyes. “Mom.”

And without having a second thought I rushed towards her and we hugged each other tightly. I couldn’t explain how I felt when her hands came around me.

“I’m..really..sorry..my child. Please…find it in your heart to forgive me.” She pleaded.

I didn’t know how long we stood hugging each other but she never stopped saying sorry for leaving me,for not fulfilling her Promise to come back for me.

Finally my mom pulled away and reached out to wiped my tears just like how she used to do when I was a little girl.

“I’m so sorry..”

It’s surprising that my mom didn’t change. No grey hair, no wrinkles she looked the same except for her deep red hair. I assumed it was because she’s a Vampire. A human stops aging once a Vampire blood is in the veins and everything about growth stops after transformation takes place. And that explains the reason why my mom still looked young.

“Now I see the resemblance.” Caden said. “Watching you closely like this look like am seeing double Hannah.” We laughed at his joke.

“To be honest I never expect to see my child again. But I am happy to see her again in a good shape.” She said sincerely.

“Please sit down Hannah.” Caden said.

We both sat on the same couch while Caden remained standing.

“You guys have a lot of catching up to do. So I’ll leave you with to have the whole suites to yourself.”

“Thank you Emperor for giving me a chance to talk to my daughter.”

“No you should thank Cassidy for agreeing to talk to you.”

My mom squeezed my hand gently with a happy smile. “Thank you.”

“So I’ll go ahead now.” He leaned down to kiss my cheeks. “See you later.”

“Yeah take care.” I replied. Caden walked out of the suites.

“Cassidy tell me what I need to do to make up for leaving you all these years.” She said.

“You don’t need to make up for anything,seeing you alive and safe is enough for me.” I answered.

“If its possible to redeem all those years then I would change alot of things.” She carressed my cheeks.

“Why didn’t you come back before you were brought into this world?” I blurted out.

“You have to believe me,I came back for you but your father didn’t let me see you. Several times I went to his office and family home and pleaded with him to let me see you but he didn’t allow it. He only assured me that you were fine and that you didn’t want to see me too.”

“That’s not true! I begged him and refused to eat if he doesn’t bring you back but he said you are never coming back for me.”

“Your father lied to us.”

I shook my head. “I know the reason why he divorced you.”

She nodded. “I know the reason too.”

“Because of money..” I said.

“No Cassidy your father didn’t divorce me because of money.”

“Then why?” I asked.

She stood up from the couch.

“One of my cousins said -“

“I cheated on your father.” She blurted out. My jaw dropped completely.

I don’t really have much to say right now. But please let’s try to understand the story before commenting. As you can see Hannah wasn’t a vampire when she was in the human world.
Mikel turned her so there’s no way Cassidy is a half human half vampire. She is a Human! ?

I’m happy Cassidy is getting along with her mom! And I intentionally brought in a twist in the story by bringing up Mikel again and also revealing the truth! Hannah cheated on her husband…? But why?
