I reached out to the side of the bed to feel Caden’s presence but it was empty. Slowly,I opened and rubbed my eyes to check properly. It was morning and Caden wasn’t in bed. Probably he didn’t come around to the suites last night. He must be really busy handling the mundane tasks that concerns the Imperial. I concluded with a yawn,ready to get out of bed.

“I am glad to see you awake.” I yelped in surprise when I heard Kira’s voice. Her eyes grew wide when she realized that she had startled me.

“Oh! I am so sorry Empress..I didn’t mean to Scare you like that!”

I gave her a small smile. “It’s alright..”

She exhaled with relief. “I hope you slept well?” She asked.

“Yes..but -“

She interrupted me. “But you missed him sleeping next to you in bed.” Kira gave me a wink. I knew she was referring to Caden.

A blush rises to my cheeks. “Well..I guess I miss him. ” I twisted my fingers together and admitted sincerely.

“I understand that he’s very busy.” I added quickly.

“Well..well..well..the Emperor had a special package delivered for you.” Kira pointed to the dressing table.

I found a beautiful ceramic vase filled with red roses on it. Kira brought the vase to me. I inhaled the roses before picking out the little note attached to it.

“I hope this would make up for not taking a walk with you as planned. Forgive me Abeja.” He wrote his name and drew a love sign next to it.

“I never knew the Emperor had a romantic side too. I’m kinda used to seeing a nonsense man.” Kira smiled.

Caden was really working hard to be a gentleman!

“The Emperor is really determined to win your heart! And it is also a good thing that he’s willing to be your Mr Right!” She winked. Excitement in her tone.

I nodded in agreement neither knowing what to say. I was just too happy to even speak up!

I hopped out of bed gently and placed the vase on the drawer,the same spot where a bedside lamp used to be before the fight with Evelyn. I inhaled the freshness of roses before turning to look at Kira.

“What are we doing today?” I asked.

“You wanna take a walk around the Imperial?” Kira asked.

I shook my head in disagreement. “Oh! Wait!” I gasped on remembering something dear to me.

“What is it?” Kira asked.

“What about the human cell?! We haven’t talked about it since I regained consciousness!” I gasped out.

“The humans are fine.” Kira shrugged.

“What about the feeding routines?”

“It is still the way you wanted it – a full meal twice in a day.” Kira answered. I heaved a sigh of relief.

“And I heard that no human has been selected as pets,slaves or food sources.” She said after some seconds of silence.

“What are you talking about?”

“What am saying is..” she paused to think. “I think the Emperor is working on putting an end to humans being used as Pet,Slaves and Food sources.” Kira explained.

“How do you know? I mean what makes you think he’s gonna do that?”

“I am just saying because no human has been picked out of cell and declared as pet,slaves and food source since the Emperor started working on the new rule of setting up a home for old humans.”

“I don’t know…but Caden said he’s working on finalizing the rule and then finding a location for their homes.”

Kira nodded. “Let’s hope for good result Empress.”

“To be honest,I want the maltreatment on our kind to end so we can all live in peace together.”

“Same here Empress.” She huffed. “Enough of the talks,go ahead into the bathroom and take a bathe while I prepare breakfast in the kitchen.”

“Okay..but -” I stopped.

“What?”

“Well…I have been thinking -” I paused to watch Kira.

“Thinking about what?”

“Learning how to cook.” I blurted out.

Kira’s eyes widened in sheer surprise.

“Yes I wanna learn how to cook because..someday I will be a mother.” I shrugged. “And I can’t rely on other people cooking for my husband and kids. I don’t wanna wait for someone to bring in food before I put food on the table for my family.” I explained.

“You’re right Empress.” Kira mumbled.

“So will you teach me?!” I asked.

“Yes! I’d be glad to teach you how to cook!”

“Let’s start today!” I said happily. “Let me take a bathe and I’ll join you in the kitchen soon!” I dashed into the bathroom before Kira could say her next words.

I woke up to someone stroking my face in a gentle manner. I opened my eyes and saw Caden in bed,looking straight into my eyes.

“Caden?” I whispered to see if I wasn’t hallucinating his presence again.

“Yes I am here.” He flashed me a bright smile that made my heart skip a beat.

Caden leaned over,his lips coming down on mine. I welcomed him,my hands moved to his neck to bring him closer to me. I reopened my eyes when he stopped kissing me.

“I haven’t apologized for what happened last night.” His shadow fell over me but his weight barely on me.

“I received the package you sent me.” I smiled.

“Well I have good news.” Caden said as he removed strands of hair from my face.

“I’m listening.” I bit my lower lip.

“Majority of the Alphas agreed to my decision to grant amnesty to old humans and build a home for them.” He announced.

Words can’t express how happy I was to hear those coming from him. Finally old humans can have a life of their own in this Imperial.

“I’ll take care of their feeding and probably grant them the chance of moving around freely in the Imperial.” He added.

I reached up and pressed kisses all over his face. “Thank you! Thank you!” I Said happily.

“I also want to work on how things would work out between Humans and Vampires just like how it used to be in the time past.”

My forehead creased trying to comprehend Caden’s words. “Are you saying that..you want humans and vampires to live together?” I asked and he nodded Yes.

“I am mated to a human so I have to treat her kind well if I want to keep her out of danger.” Caden said.

And without thinking I pulled Caden down and kissed him.

Soon the kisses became intense,his hands roamed to my hips, lifted me up right away,my legs wrapped around his waist and my arms around his neck.

Caden trailed hot kisses from my lips to the sensitive spot behind my ear down to my shoulder and back up again. I squirmed in his grip, panting as his lips and teeth gently teased my earlone. I shuddered with intensed pleasure. I haven’t been felt this way before being that I have never been with any man.

Caden moaned when he placed his lips upon my neck. A simple bite placed on the crook of my neck and right away I realized what he was about to do.

Instantly I tried to push him away but he held me down under him. He moved like a predator ready to devour it’s prey. Caden growled at my disapproval and right away I worry about him marking me. I wasn’t ready! I thought I already made that clear to him.

“Caden? Stop..you can’t..” I called out to him when his eyes glowed crimson. I knew the mating spirit was taking over him.

I shoved him away with all my strength getting a distance between us as I got out of bed quickly. I watched as Caden rolled on his side,a loud growl erupted from him,like he was trying to control himself.

Oh! My God! What do I do?! Should I just let him mark me? Would that make him back to normal? Caden was greatly affected because of his strong blood as an Emperor. I knew he would become overprotective and extremely possessive during our mating process but I wasn’t ready! And at same time I couldn’t stand and watch him suffer in pains.

“Caden…” I went back to the bed but he pushed me away.

“Go..away.. I’ll be fine.” He growled.

Hs eyes turned black this time. I was scared to death but something propelled me not to leave him alone. And as if I was being controlled by a remote,I wrapped my arms around him, pulling him for an embrace. I have read a lot of books about Vampire-Human mating and one of the things I found was that the Human could help the Vampire control his body by just showing him love and giving in to his demands.

“Caden mark me so the pain can go away.” I whispered,tears flowing down my cheeks.

I knew that I wasn’t ready to have sex with Caden but if that would make him alright again then so be it. He could choose to have sex before marking or vice versa.

Caden pulled me closer to his body and I could feel his fangs when he kissed me roughly. His hands roamed to my chest region as he pushed me to the bed. Caden wasn’t himself but I understood the reason why he was acting differently. The Mating Spirit was really hard to control just like when a female werewolf was in heat.

Caden reached for the Hem of my gown and I shuddered when his hands touched my thighs. His mouth came back to the sensitive spot on my neck,more tears streamed down my cheeks as I waited for him to just mark me. Caden chose to mark me before having sex. I closed my eyes, expecting to feel pain anytime soon as I could feel his fangs on my neck and his breathe all over me.

My heartbeat against my chest as I waited for it, at least Caden would be fine but nothing happened. I reopened my eyes after some seconds of waiting only to find Caden staring intensely at me. He watched me like I had suddenly grown two head. Slowly His fangs disappeared,his eyes retained it’s usual Color and he was back to normal again. Instantly Caden moved away from me and got out I bed.

Seconds clicked by before he spoke up. “You should have left when I asked you to leave.” Annoyance clear in his tone.

I felt like a fool at his words snd reaction towards me. “I was only trying to help con-“

He cuts me off. “I don’t need your help trying to control my mating spirit!” He snarled.

I jumped in fear and shock. More tears dropped as I wasn’t expecting him to snarl at me.

“I would have marked you without your full consent and that would have caused more problem to our bond!” He continued.

“I wanted you to mark me.” I countered

“No! I know what I saw in your eyes and I could feel it too! And you and I both know you aren’t ready to be mated to me. You just wanted me to mark you because you couldn’t watch me bear the pain.” He said in a low tone but he was angry.

I avoided his gaze, knowing that he was right. “So I am right..” he snorted.

I looked down to my fingers. “I..I…I..was only..trying to help.” I stuttered.

“Sometimes mating process doesn’t work like that.” Caden paced the room. “If we want to have a strong bond then our full consent is needed during the mating process. It has to be done willingly.” He explained,still furious and angry.

And I did the unexpected,I sobbed out loudly because I couldn’t hold back my silent tears anymore. I was trying to help but I didn’t realize that I was hurting Caden in the process. And I couldn’t bear the fact that he was annoyed. I never wanted to see this side of him.

“I am sorry…” I apologized,burying my face in my palms. “I didn’t mean to hurt you. I thought staying close would really help reduce the pain.”

Everything would have been fine if I had been willing to let Caden mark me and not out of pity of saving him from pains.

“It’s alright.” Caden removed my palms from my face.

“I am sorry.” I sniffed without looking up at him.

“No I should be the one apologizing for backing out of words. I had promised to wait until you are ready for the mating process. I am sorry.” His hand reached out to wipe my face. “Forgive me for yelling at you too.” He pulled me in for a hug and I sobbed more in his chest.

I was such a cry baby tonight!
