?Cassidy’s POV ?

I raced off to the room in excitement. At least I was leaving the suites to experience nature and that would help me relax from the whole Evelyn and Mikel’s drama.

I had the fastest bathe and rushed to the closet to grab some clothling. I opted in for a pair of faded jean trousers and top before motioning out of the room to join Caden.

His eyes did a slow crawl on my body as I went to him. “I am ready.” I said.

He smiled. “I already asked my men to prepare the horses.”

I raised my eyebrows in confusion. “Horses?”

“Yeah.. horses. We’re going to ride on horses through the forest.”

I shook my head in disagreement. “I haven’t ride a horse in my whole life!” I exclaimed.

“Hey relax that shouldn’t stop us. You’ll ride with me.” He smiled.

I relaxed in his embrace for some seconds before Caden pulled away. He interwined our hands as he led me out of the suites.

“I have this special spot in the forest, it’s really beautiful.”

“What is it?” I asked.

“You’ll find out soon.” He replied.

“A garden? Waterfall? Or a mysterious cave?” I asked,wanting to know about this special spot in the forest.

Caden stopped walking when we finally reached outside. Some of his men were already waiting with their horses too.

“The horses are ready.” A warrior said to him.

“We won’t be needing two horses just one is enough.” Caden said.

“Are they all coming with us?” I asked and he nodded yes.

“But why? Do they really need to come with us?” I questioned frantically not liking this idea of having too many escort with us.

“We have to protect ourselves in case there are wild animals lurking around the forest.” Caden answered.

I rolled my eyes in disappointment. “I thought this would be a chance to spend time together and not hunting for wild animals.” I grumbled.

“Pardon?” Caden turned to face me after talking to the warrior holding on to a horse.

“Nothing! I was just..talking to myself.” I moved closer to the horse. “Wow! You’re so beautiful!” I pat the horse gently.

I felt Caden’s presence behind me,his warmth close to my ear. “You’re not a good liar! Come on! Let me help you on the horse.”

His hands claimed my waist and helped me settle on the horse before getting on behind me. I almost tripped off when the horse moved but Caden guarded me.

“Calm down..I am here with you.” He whispered.

“Okay..okay.”

“Plans changed,the Empress isn’t comfortable with too many company. So I’ll be needing just two warriors to accompany us at a far distance.” Caden said.

Oh! He heard what I had grumbled out!

“Alright Emperor!” The warrior bowed before Caden set off.

Riding on the horse throughout the forest was fun! At first we rode at a slow and steady pace but later on..it became a fast and furious ride! Caden kicked the horse to increase the pace just to hear me scream out. It was absolutely fun!

We came down from the horse and started the walk to beautiful places in the forest. Caves,Cliff,Rivers, Waterfalls and a sacred place filled with varieties of healing flowers and herbs. I kept asking Caden if any of these places was his special spot but he said we haven’t gotten there yet.

“Caden?” I called out to him.

“Yes..” he stopped walking to look at me.

“Where is your special place?” I asked for the hundredths time.

“You’re really anxious to see it?” I nodded.

“Well I have few things to say before showing you this special spot.” He answered.

I rolled my eyes. “This is unfair! I really wanna see your special spot.”

He laughed. “My lady would you please grant me the permission to say some few words to you?” Caden stepped back and gave me a mock bow.

I laughed out at his gesture. “Do I have any choice?” I tapped his chest.

Caden cleared his throat. “You’re a unique female.” He said.

A slight blush flamed my cheeks. “Is..is this a moment of truth?” I laughed again but it soon faded when I saw the seriousness in his expression under the moonlight.

“I’m serious right now.” Caden tilted my chin so I would look straight into his beautiful eyes.

“I feel so lucky to be paired up with you…it really doesn’t matter if you are a human. And it’s surprising how I was given a second chance to have a mate again.” He pulled backward and held my right hand in his.

“Come let me show you the special spot.”

We walked few steps before Caden stopped abruptly. “Look here it is – my special spot.”

I looked up to where he pointed. I gasped out at the beauty of the place. There were fireflies everywhere,little lights scattered in the inky blackness, appearing and disappearing like it was been controlled. It was like magic!

“They are beautiful!” I said.

“I’m glad you liked it. There are a lot of secrets in this forest and I plan to show you everyone of them.”

Oh! So there are still more beautiful places in this forest aside the places I have seen!

We lasped into silence as I watched the fireflies. Caden played with my hair,his fingers brushing my cheeks. Everytime he touched me felt like I was under a spell.

He turned me to face him,his thumb brushed my lips before he kissed me.

And just when I was about to open up to him,Caden whispered against my lips.
“I love you.”

My heart stopped beating for a second before it began to beat rapidly as if I had heard him wrongly.

“I don’t mean to scare you but I really have to say it – I love you.” He whispered.

I stared at him with wide eyes as his words washed over me.

“You..you..love me?” I stuttered.

He smoothened a strand of hair from my face and murmured. “I love you very much. I didn’t expect it..like I never expected a second chance to Mating.” He rested his forehead on mine.

“Abeja means sweetness,you’ve brought happiness into my life. I know that I cannot live without you. I want you..and I am willing to do anything just to make you want me. Tell me what I need to do to make you love me the same way I love you.”

Caden thinks I don’t love him?!

“Listen,I will never turn out to be any of those men you’ve met in the past. I want a life with you. I want all of you because you are perfect for me.” He whispered.

I thought I might burst from happiness. Tears splashed down my cheeks as I muttered the words I haven’t said before. “I love you too.”

His expression changed as he listened to my words.

I sniffed. “Caden…this is new to me.”

“Yes…yes..I know -“

“But you are worth a chance.” I added quickly before holding my breath.

Caden wiped my tears before he slowly brought down his lips to mine. A fine tremor ran through my body at the contact. The kiss was deep, purposeful and full of intent. I realized that we poured out every words we wanted to say into the kiss.

We both laughed happily when Caden put an end to the kiss.

“Thank you.” He kissed my forehead. “For giving me a chance to love you.” He trailed kisses to my cheeks.

“Thank you for loving me!” I kissed him full on the lips again.

?️ WEEKS LATER ?️

A slight pain in my lower abdominal region jolted me up from a deep sleep. I cuddled with Caden as I groaned in pains.

“Are you alright?” He muttered.

I hummed a response of disapproval. I knew what that pain in my belly meant – I was ready for my monthly flow. Oh my God! This is a time I have always prayed for it not to come but it’s impossible!

Women are bound to undergo this process every month. My stomach cramps was always almost unbearable until I take loads of pain relievers.

“Abeja?” Caden called out as he pulled away to look at me.

“I’m alright…” I sat up ready to get out of bed.

“You don’t look good.” He placed his palm on my forehead. “Let me get Cora to come over.” He added, concern in his tone.

“No..no..you don’t need to call Cora. It’s really nothing serious.” I hopped out of bed Immediately.

“Oh! So this is it?” His words stopped me on my way to the closet.

“What?” I asked turning to face him.

“You’re….ahm..” he pointed to my nightgown. “Your gown is stained.”

My eyes widened as my gaze flickered to the stained white bedcovers. There was bloodstains on the area I had slept in. And I didn’t even bother to look behind my gown or look up at Caden again. I was really embarrassed to move from the spot where I stood. Never have I been in this situation!

“Go ahead and clean up while I take care of things here.” Caden was already packing up the bedcovers. Then I moved quickly and snatched it from him.

“No you shouldn’t touch something like this…” I rushed out my words before racing off into the bathroom at a close run.

I could feel Caden’s eyes on me. Damn it! No doubt his eyes would be fixed on the bloodstains on my gown. So embarrassing! I pray he leaves before I finish doing my thing in the bathroom so I won’t have to face him.

I stripped off my nightgown and dumped it into the washing machine together with bedcovers. I spent minutes doing the few laundry in the basket before moving on to take a shower. But then I realized that I didn’t grab a sanitary pad neither did I take a clothing from the closet. So I am left with no choice but to go out to the room with just a towel around my body. I just hope Caden wasn’t in the room.

Our relationship have been going fine but we haven’t made the move go get intimate. I avoided been naked around him because I wasn’t used to being naked with anyone. And I really appreciate the fact that Caden has been patient with me. I knew it wasn’t easy for him to always control his mating spirit whenever he was around me. But sooner or later,I know I have to get intimate with him.

I opened the door but yelped in surprise when I saw Caden standing in front of me.

“Sorry to disturb you but -” he stopped.

My gaze travelled down to his hand. He was holding a pair of shorts,top and sanitary pad.

“I just felt you might need them.” He added.

I shook my head. “Thank you.” I reached out to collect the stuffs from him before closing the door.

Caden wasn’t in the room when I stepped out of the bathroom. Maybe he left for a meeting with the High Council.

I motioned out of the room to get pain relief tablet in the kitchen. I found Caden in the kitchen working his way around the cupboard searching for heaven knows what.

He uttered profanities after some seconds of searching. “What are you looking for?” I asked.

He stopped the search and focused on me. “I wanted to get you pain relief tablet but I can’t find them.” He said with a worried look on his face.

“Maybe it is finished…I should get Cora to bring some more.” He added.

“You should have asked me for it.” I went over to the fridge. “I kept it in here..” I brought out the bottle and gave it to him.

Caden collected it and led me to the stool closer to the counter. “Sit down…” He instructed me and I obeyed without a protest.

Caden passed a bowl of cereal to me. “Eat up…so you can take some tablet to relief your cramps.”

“Thank you but I don’t feel like eating anything.” I said.

Usually I don’t have appetite whenever I am on my period.

“You have to eat something to be able to use this tablet. I don’t want to see you in any form of pains.”

Caden came over to my side and kissed my cheeks. “Thank you.”

I smiled as he went back to the stool facing mine directly.

“We won’t be able to visit the place I planned to show you.” He said.

I glanced up from the bowl of cereal. “But why? We already agreed to visit the place.”

“You’re not feeling too well and I want you to have a good rest in bed.”

“No..no Caden I am alright. It’s just stomach cramps..and I will be fine after taking the pain tablets.” I countered.

Yesterday Caden said he has something important to show me. I have been really anxious about it and now he wants to change plans because of my stomach cramps.

“Ok..how about we visit the place in the evening?” Caden asked.

“No problem..” I answered.

“I will instruct your guards to bring you when it’s time.” He dropped two tablets of pain relief in my palm and handed me a glass of water.

“Good morning Emperor.. Empress.” Kira greeted with a bow.

I hummed a response before swallowing the tablets.

“I have to leave for the meeting now.” He said.

“Okay.. I’ll see you later.” I replied.

Caden kissed my lips. “Kira,take care of her.”

“Yes Emperor.” She responded before he walked out of the kitchen.

Kira carried the bowl to the sink. “What’s wrong Empress? You don’t look too well.” She asked.

“Is it that obvious?”

Kira nodded. “Well it is just stomach cramps,but Caden is making a big deal out of it.”

“That’s because he cares so much about you.” She said.

I rolled my eyes. “I’ll be alright before the end of the day.”

Several seconds passed before I spoke up again. “I wonder what Caden wants to show me. He seems excited about it.”

“Well..I think it’s best to wait for that moment.” Kira responded with a shrug.
