No Room For Love Episode 67

‘Kate you are already getting angry when you promise not to judge me but it seems I don’t need to continue.’ Nectar said sitting beside his wife who had her back against the bed post.

‘Do you really expect me to be okay with you cheating on me Nectar?’

‘But i thought you wanted to help me.’

‘Yes, I know I said I will support you but I would be pretending if I don’t complain.’ Kate said with both hands on her head.

I think we shouldn’t continue anymore.’ Nectar said looking away.

‘No you don’t get to hang me up again. Was it after marriage or before?’ Kate asked confused.

‘Oh come on!’ Nectar exclaimed.

‘I would be quiet now while you talk.’ Kate said after a while of silence when Nectar was neither looking in her direction or ready to open up. She could have ignored but she has to know. She encouraged herself, feeling her belly.

Since Pearl popped up, Kate figured she needed to step up because she haven’t been fair to Nectar which probably pushed him out but at that moment she was ready to commit her all.

Kate blamed herself on the way back home and figured it was too late to turn back the hands of time. She couldn’t bear loosing him but she thought of salvaging what was left of her marriage.

She was yet to understand why she felt like Nectar had hurt her when she was the one doing that through out her seven months with him but Kate with her whole heart doesn’t want to loose him not because of her kids but for herself.

Nectar contemplated for a while before opening up again.

‘I knew pearl from my previous work station. Keisha actually introduced us during one of our visits to the Hamptons. We wanted to get away for the vacation and i don’t know what happened but she got attracted to me somehow. I wasn’t interested at first but after our second visit to the Hamptons I just fell for her against my wish.’ Nectar’s words barely came out properly.

Kate couldn’t help but stare at this point. ‘Are you saying you can’t resist her?’ She asked in a hurry for an answer.

‘It wasn’t like that, at first i thought I couldn’t get what I needed from Keisha and since Pearl was willing to give out I just jumped to that opportunity. It doesn’t mean I loved my wife any less.’

‘Then what does it mean.’

‘I think being with Keisha all my life, I just got fed up. Kate I don’t know what happened but I wasn’t sure of what I was doing then.’

‘There he goes again.’

‘Don’t be like that. I wanted to end it with Pearl so I sat Keisha down that evening and telling her the truth got her mad, we quarreled with her doing all the talking.’

‘Though i recently found out Pearl had told her about our affair before i told her’.

‘Wow, you have done Keisha a lot of wrong. What happened next?’

‘I knew I was wrong but then I couldn’t risk her leaving that late into the darkness. Trying to stop her was not an option as I know how she gets when angry. I waited for her downstairs and I followed later when she was taking long just to find her in her own pool of blood.’

He paused for a while.

‘And?’

‘You already know the rest of that story Kate.’ Nectar said finally pausing with regrets and a drop of tear on the bed sheet.

For close to five minutes Kate didn’t utter a word again.

‘Kate say something please.’ Nectar said pushing himself closer to his wife with his hands wavering.

Kate who was in deep thoughts now sitting with her hands across her chest could only sigh and wipe her tears.

‘Why is Pearl here then? I mean you claimed you ended everything with her.’ Kate finally said.

‘I must admit she was helpful when I had to go in and out of the police station concerning the way I handled Keisha on the theatre table since I was family and shouldn’t have involved myself.’

‘So she came here for you.’

‘She moved in a while when I couldn’t handle the loss for a whole year. Then she left her job and followed me here. We were an item for a while until I met you at the reunion.’

‘What reunion?’ Kate asked instantly with a raised tone and confused face.

‘Your last two years’ reunion, I went with Matts who couldn’t find a date. I saw you sitting alone far from everyone drinking your life away as if it would end soon.’

‘Wait, you knew who i was at that party?’

‘No, that day I had no idea you were sitting alone because you had a thing going on with my sister. I liked you then and had to ask around who you were but only had luck with your name. Your sad face and the passion you put in gulping all that wine was fascinating.’ Nectar said with almost a smile.

‘And Pearl.’ Kate asked as if that was all she was interested in.

‘Pearl decided to help with checking up on you, since she was a detective. It was easy to locate your favorite bar. In the quest to locate you after the reunion I had to do her bidding.’

‘Her bidding, you mean sex?’

‘Yes but as time went on I kept observing you anytime you came around to the bar, your dance makes me laugh and that thing you do with your eyes when you are angry at your friends. I always watch from a distance.’

‘And you call stalking, love.’

‘Pearl called it infatuation but I came to accept its love at first sight. I was always so close but thought you were dating Drake who seems so impossible to read around you though I found out you hated men because you were betrayed, I was still determined.’

Nectar confessed and got a frown from Kate.

‘And how did she end up at the bar.’

‘Pearl always took advantage of my weakness, that’s the love burning in me anytime I had to watch you go. She got a job there temporarily since the only way she could get me is helping me end with you and she gets what she needs.’

‘Couldn’t you have walked away?’

‘She is a sex freak, Kate! That was when I started sleeping with her again when I managed to stop after I recovered from my loss.

‘Gosh Glover!’ Kate called him Glover for the first time.

‘But I stopped sleeping with her when I met you again and this time luck shined on me and you l..eft yo..ur ph..one.’ Nectar stammered and kept watching his wife who was now lying on the bed facing the ceiling, then he continued realizing her face was almost dry from the tears.

‘And you think you have achieved something big.’

‘I have even your dad said it when I contacted him with the help of Pearl and luckily for me he was tired of your rude attitude and wants you ending up with me since we later found out, he was friends with my Dad.’

Kate forcefully closed her eyes for a while.

‘Nectar, what does she have that I don’t. Did you sleep with her in this house?’ Kate suddenly asked.

‘No Kate, it was just twice, I was angry then. I felt you used me when I overheard you telling Matts you slept with me because you could barely escape Mandy’s touch when you met him that night.’

She sniffed, then used the back of her hand to wipe her face. ‘When was the second time?’ She asked so broken. Was it when we had that argument over the divorce and you left home?’

‘Kate I wasn’t myself all those times besides I was at the point of losing you and Pearl had a way of making all my problems go away. I just figured I could run back to her, probably you might want to leave as you have mentioned it so many times already. I’m sorry.’

Nectar said again and there was silence for a long while. He raised his head which was down all this while and realized Kate was in closed eyes. He was about to stand up when she spoke up.

‘Were you ever going to tell me all these Nectar? Supposing I never found out about Pearl when were you going to tell me?’

‘But Kate you were not really talking to me then, how was I going to talk to you about what was bothering me.’

‘Nectar that is not an excuse to sleep with another woman while we are still married. I may be a loud mouth and rude but I certainly couldn’t bear hurting you even when I could barely stand the idea of getting stuck in this loveless marriage. The difference between us is, I have a conscience!’

‘You think I don’t have a conscience, I see you rant all the time with a broken heart, I kept quiet because I know my own past was worse.’

‘Maybe you thought I don’t need a man’s warmth, or the sex. What do you think I am Nectar?’

‘You still had Mandy.’

‘Are you even listening to yourself? Okay, I was just dumb thinking I could get that from only one man hence I locked out my feelings. To think I didn’t want to sleep with Mandy back then even though my whole being wanted to. I respected you as my husband, I might not show it more often but you should know I was always grateful you accepted me.’

‘Grateful?’ He hissed.

Kate ignored him. ‘Now answer me Nectar, were you ever going to tell me all these. Think about the question first before you answer because your life might just depend on it.’ She said now raising herself to meet his gaze.

He glared at her for a long while.

‘You don’t want to talk right?’ Kate said raising her voice now. ‘It’s a simple question, Yes or No. If you can’t then take the other guest room.’

Kate said struggling with her flip flops and walking out on him when he faintly and honestly said, “NO.”

She turned around and rolled her eyes.

‘At least you are honest with me for once.’ She said.  ‘I should get lunch ready then, we have been in here for quite a while now.’

Kate further said and walked out while Nectar watched her in bewilderment and slumped back on to the bed with his own tears flowing now.

To be continued.

EPISODE 68

Kate peeped in. Nectar quickly jumped to his feet when he heard the door open.

‘Food is ready, you can come down now.’ Kate said and walked away quietly.

Nectar nervously followed. They were all silent at the table which was unusual.

‘Kate you look unkempt. Have you been crying?’ Jane who hasn’t been around since morning asked and everyone ignored.

She turned to Nectar who seemed not to be enjoying his food, then to Matts who was watching the two couples sternly.

‘Kate can we talk after lunch.’ Jane asked.

‘Sure Grams. Will find you first before you do.’

Nectar tried to signal her to decline but she ignored till their meal was over.

******

‘Catherine, thank you so much.’ Wilson said with smiles. He raised himself off the bed walking unclad to the bathroom.

‘Wilson you don’t need to thank me when I’m supposed to be your wife.’

He paused for a while to process what she just said.

He stood in the shower for quite some time. Wilson stood in front of the bathroom door for a while with a towel wrapped around his waist whiles eavesdropping on Catherine’s conversation.

‘Kate I’m not sure I want to discuss Jane with you right now. I’m in a good place with your Dad now and I don’t want him snapping again.’

‘Mom what did you do this time. You finally succumbed to his touch so you want to sideline me right.’ Kate asked her mom with sadness on the other side of the call.

She convinced herself she wasn’t really bothered about what happened between her and Nectar earlier but somewhere within she was shattered but she must hold on for her Kids. She murmured.

‘What did you say Kate?’ Catherine asked when she heard her murmuring.

Then Wilson’s shadow distracted her.

‘Kate, let me call you back when I’m done here.’ Catherine was in a hurry to hang up.

‘Is that Ka…te.’ He stammered. Catherine nodded her head, raising herself from the duvet exposing the full view of her naked body.

‘Can I speak with her?’ Wilson finally found the courage to ask.

Catherine surprised and with her shaky hands quickly dropped the phone in his hands forgetting to tell Kate her Dad was going to speak next.

‘Mom, what do you see in this man! I mean he practically takes you by force. No sane man would do that.’ She said and heard his husky voice.

‘It’s your Dad Kate.’ He said almost choking on the dad part. ‘And sorry your mom didn’t tell you I would be answering next.’

‘Emmm.’

‘Please I would like you to come over for dinner sometime soon. We need to talk.’ Wilson said with closed eyes almost expecting the usual Kate to rant about how he is a bad father.

Kate took the phone off her ear, looked around surprised.

‘Dad, you just said please!’ She managed to say.

‘Yeah kind of.’ He replied.

‘What did mom do to you now? Are you sure you are my dad?’

‘Kate, I just want us to have a father to daughter talk, for the first time. Can you grant me that?’ Wilson said with courage now.

Kate glanced at the phone for a while and quickly hanged up.

She rushed upstairs and dropped herself gently on the bed, then Nectar came out of the shower.

******

‘She hanged up Catherine. Is it too late to make all these right?’ Wilson asked Catherine who pulled the sheets to cover her unclad body while pushing herself towards Wilson seated at the edge of the bed.

She made to hold him but he pulled away.

‘Catherine don’t get any ideas yet. We just had sex, that is what it is and no strings attached.’

But Wilson the difference this time is you asked and it meant a lot to me. Since I came into your life, you made an honorable woman out of me today. And if today is the last time you’d ever respect me as a woman, then I’m fine. At least I know where I stand with you.’ Catherine said softly while dressing up to leave.

‘Please wait, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it that way Catherine.’

‘Then what was that?’

‘I don’t deserve whatever you feel for me right me right now.’ Wilson said holding her back.

Wilson I don’t expect you to feel anything for me, I understand you. You are still hang on to Claudia. The more reason why I locked up whatever feelings I developed for the past 19 years. You probably didn’t notice I shy away from you anytime you force yourself on me, unlike the few years when I had to cry.’

She walked out of the room after fixing her attire and rushed down the stairs.

*****

‘Kate thank you for lunch and what should we do about our situation because……’ Nectar was about to say and Kate interrupted.

‘Nectar can we not keep hurting each other already, you said whatever you needed to say and I understand I opened the door to whatever sexual drive you can’t control or obsession you have for another woman aside your wife. For now, I’m not healthy to talk about it anymore.’

‘Kate don’t do this to us, what I did doesn’t make my love for you any less.’ Nectar said still drying himself with the towel in his hands.

‘Great.’ She retorted.

‘At least let me know where I stand with you because I don’t know what I would do if I lost you to another man.’

Really Nectar, unlike you I’m not sure I would be able to defile my home no matter how pissed off I am at life.’

‘I’m sorry.’

‘The most annoying part is I have to live with this scar forever and the dirt I can’t wash away because you’ve hurt me so bad. Yet another man has succeeded in breaking a heart which was already healing and warming up to the same man who has hurt her now.’

Nectar walked slowly to the wall and leaned against it, staring at her wife struggling with her blouse, obviously too tight.

He wondered where she was going to but he knew better not to ask, already he is having a hard time handling his mess.

He walked closer to Kate, fidgeted with his hands for a while. ‘Let me help you fit into that, if you don’t mind.’ He said with his wavering hands.

Kate turned around, glared at him for a while and turned around. ‘You can go ahead; I’m running late for my mom’s place.’

Nectar who was walking away earlier, took a step back. While zipping her up, he couldn’t comprehend how he could hurt this woman with a perfect body.

There was silence for a while, obviously having a moment until Kate broke the silence.

‘So Dad wants to see me soon for what I’m not sure of yet, so don’t ask me why Nectar.’ Kate said walking away from him to locate her sandals.

‘You said soon but why are you going now.’ Nectar said trying to make a conversation.

‘Whatever he has to say must be important for my Dad to acknowledge me as his daughter, so I better get it done today so he wouldn’t get an excuse to change his mind.’

‘Okay.’

‘Do you have a problem with that Nectar?’ Kate asked looking in his direction.

‘No, I wanted to spend the day with you alone but that’s fine I can come with you then.’ He said watching her reaction.

‘Nectar you don’t need to follow me to my mom’s.’ She said smiling that instant.

‘Yes, I know, but Sylvester called while you went to get lunch, your test results are not looking good so we should take care right now to avoid any bad news.’

Kate walked away ignoring him. How is he being so nice and caring all of a sudden when he obviously has wronged me. She was about to say out loud but no words came out, but Nectar couldn’t stop talking.

He quickly followed her to the car.

‘Knowing your Dad, I can’t take that chance.’ He said and sat beside her driving wheel after snatching the key from her bag earlier.

‘You are stubborn Nectar.’ Kate said and sat quietly in the car.

Getting to the main house, they heard voices. It became clearer when they got to the entrance.

Kate recognized that as her dad’s.  ‘Annoying man, always shouting.’ She hissed and continued to the room.

She quickly barged in and rushed upstairs.

‘Take it easy Kate, you might fall.’ Nectar advised. Kate saw Nectar rushing after her, struggling with her bag.

Then she paused after her mom’s revelation.

******

‘I’m sorry you wish Claudia’s baby with you lived but she didn’t make it and Kate lived so accept it because I’ve waited for far too long for you to accept her but you are so heartless.’ Catherine said amidst tears.

Catherine who rushed in to the kitchen earlier came back upstairs and Wilson just had to get on her nerves again. She got furious and blamed herself for falling in love with him when she pledged not to.

‘Can you stop shouting Catherine?’

‘No, i won’t because i’ve had enough. What have I done to you or was it my fault I had to be a surrogate for your child.’

‘Cath….’

She was angry and wasn’t paying attention to him. ‘Your wife wanted it that way and I respected her a lot though i was naive focusing on the better life she promised me after birth. If i had known it would take been raped several times to bore a child, I would have gone back to my street.’ Catherine cried.

‘You knew i never wanted any of this.’ He muttered trying to be calm.

‘I only agreed to carry a child for you because I owe your wife, a decision I came to regret. She had no problem with me sleeping with you on several times just to make a baby when the artificial insemination failed on countless occasions.’ Catherine sniffed in between her words.

‘Don’t remind me of details i already know.’

‘Why? Is it because you knew even after she found out she was finally going to have her own child after just two months of announcing my pregnancy she still preferred me around and you didn’t.’

‘Haa, you think Claudia likes you that much.’ Wilson laughed.

She treated me right and you think she made us sign that contract with her dying breath just for you to ignore me for 27 good years.’

‘What do you want Catherine?’ He knew lashing back at her won’t solve anything.

‘I just gave myself out to you a while ago and you said thank you then I thought finally you have realized I’ve learned to love you but you couldn’t even wait for a day to pass before rubbing it in my face.’

Wilson tried to talk but a frown appeared on his face as if what he wanted to say was an abomination. For a moment he seemed like some one who was also secretly in love with his wife.

‘Ho..ld o……’

‘Hold on for you to rape me again? You know how disgusting I look at myself in the mirror anytime you jerk off and run back to your wife.’ Catherine yelled out. ‘Then i see the smile on your face anytime you drag on your Pajamas.’

‘You have no idea what you are even saying.’ Wilson managed to say.

‘I remember those days perfectly where Claudia pleads with me every time to bear with her. I did all that for her because she was the only one who never looked down on me like your mother did and your Dad of blessed memory.’

‘Don’t bring Daddy into all this Catherine.’

‘Wait, do you know what even killed your Dad?’ She laughed weirdly. ‘Of course you have no idea and whatever I saw that day made your mom to hate me so much.’

‘Really, you know mom hates you because you wanted to take over Claudia’s home right.’

‘Claudia was there for me even when she knew I could take over her matrimonial home if I so want to but she was desperate, your mom constantly asking for a grandchild all the time was putting a lot of strain on her already broken heart.’

‘Look woman, you think I wanted to sleep with you. I fake that smile for the sake of my wife. Why do you think I take you forcefully?’ Wilson blurted out.

‘Now he glorifies his wife who unfortunately wouldn’t be able to hear him tell his usual lies.’

‘Claudia gave me her kidney, even though she knew her health was not the best at that time. I owe her a lot, so don’t stand there and tell me you love her more than I do.’ Wilson finished saying with a loud tone.

‘Wilson, Claudia married us with her last breath, if you loved her you would have acknowledged my presence in this house but i allow it to fade away, besides I had no room for loving you in the first place. All I wanted was to treat your daughter right.’ Catherine said with sadness in her voice.

‘Whatever i did to Kate was because of you and that doesn’t mean i didn’t care about her.’

‘Care? You that couldn’t even ask for a proper punishment for the sake of your daughter’s torture and you stand there ranting about care. And I knew you asked for a lawyer for Mandy, so he comes back destroying her life.’

Then he laughed again. ‘You are so naïve woman, I asked for his release because unlike you I have a conscience to know framing a man for murder isn’t the right way to go. I may be many things but that certainly will destroy my family’s reputation.’

‘Reputation?’

‘So instead of you whining and defending your acts, be grateful to your son in law because Mandy could have pressed charges but he didn’t. I have no doubt he loved your daughter in his own small way.’ Wilson said sternly.

Kate flashed an accusing eye towards Nectar, who only murmured he was sorry. For a while it seemed like the noise had subsided. As they were about to continue upstairs, the voices started again.

‘Kate was an innocent child, who just wanted her father’s love and nothing more. You could have just pretended you loved her and i’m sure she would have really appreciated it.’

‘You have a problem Catherine because i don’t see how i could have helped you break the law back then.’

‘I came to you for help; I couldn’t wait around and watch my daughter get hurt by that Mandela and i begged you to use your influence to get him out of her life but you refused. And what did you ask for in return?’

‘Don’t even go there now.’ He frowned.

‘You asked for my body and i had no problem with that but you chose to rape me in my most vulnerable state. What kind of a man does that?’

‘The kind of man who just slept with you.’ He teased as if he had won a trophy.

‘I can’t believe I just slept with you Wilson? Gosh.’ She snarled.

‘I had sympathy on you earlier so don’t make me regret.’ He chipped in almost like he was just trying to get on her nerves.

‘I have nothing to lose in terms of that but now I can go to the cops with that video the house cleaner took and you know what that means.’

‘You dare not Catherine.’

‘You can’t bribe me to stay again this time and yet still treat me anyhow. I’ve endured enough. As you always say Kate is mine alone. I suffered nine months alone while you parade yourself with your wife and left me helpless.’

‘The wife you murdered?’ He asked angrily. Wilson hates to hear Catherine refer to his precious Claudia that way because to him, she was always going to be blamed for her death.

‘You killed your wife yourself.  You always forget I called you first when I was in labor and you told me to suit myself. If you had listened to Claudia’s plea when she called later, she wouldn’t have worried so much and drive into a trailer that night.’

‘What does that have to do with me when i had no obligations towards you then.’

‘You left two pregnant women home alone at night, doing God knows what out of town and you still don’t see anything wrong with that.’

‘You still had no right to drag her in to driving you in her condition and for that i hated you and dragged my daughter into your mess.’

‘Your selfish desires turned you against your daughter. I hope you live to tell her your story some day because i’m done taking care of your needs. And if you don’t tell her you tried to force yourself on her I will do that for you.’ Catherine said throwing things out of her wardrobe into a bag.

‘What has come over you?’ He sounded sober, probably to convince her not to snitch to Kate.

‘I will leave you to your conscience to judge you and good luck with getting a new kidney.’ She responded.

*******

Nectar practically was holding her down on the floor on the last stairs where she sat in tears listening to her parents rattle their secrets out.

‘How could a man, treat a woman that way? She is my mom. Somehow, I always felt she was more than a stepmom. That bond and the affection for a stepdaughter was just deceiving. She has suffered enough.’ She murmured to herself even though Nectar was looking on.

As what looked like her Dad got his dose of his own medicine, Kate managed to get up and bumped into her mom dragging her luggage out.

Catherine saw the tears in her eyes and hugged her so tight.

‘Mom.’ She cried.

‘Yes, my dear, how long have you been here.’ She wanted to be sure Kate heard nothing.

‘Long enough to know I’m yours alone.’ She looked up and saw her Dad with his hands in his pockets facing the window.

‘I’m sorry, I didn’t want you to find out this way Kate.’

To be continued

EPISODE 69

‘Mom that’s fine. But why didn’t you talk to me. I mean I would really want to know you were my mom.’ Kate said glancing every second to her Dads direction.

‘I was just ashamed of my situation back then and that one standing right there wouldn’t have me telling the whole world a street naive girl could bore him a child. What his sophisticated wife couldn’t do.’

‘Mom how could you even say that. You were ashamed of your own daughter. I believe I didn’t ask to be born.’ Kate said trying to understand her mom’s silence.

‘No Kate, I was just ashamed of my situation. I mean i agreed to this surrogate arrangement because of my own situation. I wanted out of the streets but having you gave me hope to hold on even if it takes me been harassed all the time.’ Catherine said and Wilson looked back with pleading eyes.

He didn’t know Kate was around and he wished to take all his words back. Somehow Catherine’s tears make him sad sometimes but he still couldn’t stop making her sad.

‘Mom that’s okay, I won’t judge you. The significant thing here is i loved you even when you were not really mine. You didn’t for once treat me like an outsider.’ Kate said embracing her mom.

‘Thank you.’

‘But are you really sure about that?’ Kate said pointing to her mom’s luggage. Catherine paused and walked back to the bed, having her head in her palms.

Kate sighed and walked closer to her mom who couldn’t control her emotions.

‘Mom you know you don’t want to go. And you always told me a woman should always be strong and should never leave her matrimonial home. I took your advice the last time so could you please listen to me now.’ Kate said hugging her sideways.

‘Not this time Kate! I refuse to do this man’s bidding any longer.’ Catherine said with her head down.

‘So where do you want to go. Will you come with me?’ Kate asked directing the question to both Nectar and her Mom. Nectar who was watching sternly most of the time focusing on Kate’s body and reaction just nodded to answer her.

‘No, you know I won’t survive with Jane in that house.’ Catherine said standing up instantly.

‘Mom where are you going to, you don’t have anyone and you know that so let me help you.’ Kate said holding her back while Wilson struggled with his movements pausing in the middle of the room.

‘Kate I have a friend.’ Catherine said while Nectar came to her aid when she saw her struggling with her luggage.

‘Really, I thought you didn’t have friends. We will give you a lift then.’ Kate said walking behind her, then paused for a moment.

‘Nectar hand me my bag please.’ She fished out the envelope and walked towards her Dad. For a moment she was speechless but then tapped him on the back gently.

“Dad!” Kate called out softly. Wilson turned around sadly.

‘I think you can meet your other daughter now and I hope you would be nice to this one.’

Kate handed her the DNA test result Drake brought over the last time. She hadn’t opened it yet, hence was hoping to do that with her Dad over dinner.

Wilson just popped up his eyes, stared at Kate without a word. Kate was actually expecting him to say something but he just slumped on his bed and his face dropped.

Soon after they left the house while Catherine directed them to her friends place.

*****

‘Mom are you sure your friend lives here.’ Kate asked after a silence drive from the house earlier. Nobody was willing to comment on the DNA test incident.

‘Yes, Kate I will find my way in. But are you sure about the findings on that DNA report?’ Catherine asked Kate who assumed her mom wasn’t watching or listening earlier

‘Mom, I didn’t get the chance to check the results, but I can feel Stacy is my sister.’

Nectar Jumped up! ‘Which Stacy? Your P.A?’ He asked surprised while Catherine acted as if she already knew.

‘Yes, my P.A the same one that poisoned you.’ More shock registered on Nectars face when Kate mentioned she knew all this time it was Stacy.

‘How did you know about that; did she confess to you?’ Nectar asked with every part of his nerves telling him, he is in for another trouble.

‘Yes, tell Matts to hide her findings properly, she just left it in the open. I know you two didn’t want to tell me and I understand.’ Kate confirmed and tapped her mom who was deep in thoughts.

‘Emmm, sorry.’

‘Mom are you okay, I think you should go in now.’ Kate said just then a man her Dads age came out. ‘I think your friend is here and are you sure you will be fine or you could still come with us.’ Kate said smiling and tried to convince her Mom who was already out of the car.

‘No.’ She smiled back at her daughter.

‘Okay, Mom I think you are stubborn like me, I understand now why I was always like that.’ Kate said smiling while Catherine shook her head while walking away.

Kate slumped into the front seat of the car and fastened her seat belt. She adjusted the seat so as to rest her body which feels shattered beyond repairs.

‘Are you feeling okay?’ Nectar asked and she looked away quickly. ‘Please do we need to pass by the hospital because you don’t look fine to me.’ He concluded.

‘Busy body, just drive and focus on the road. I’m going to be fine.’ Kate said faintly and closed her eyes.

Nectar just smiled, he would be unfair if he wants to argue with her now. Just then his phone rang.

‘Could you please pick up that call for me and tell the caller I’m driving?’ Nectar said and looked back on the road.

‘Why are you forcing yourself to talk to me?’ She murmured and stretched herself to the backseat grabbing his phone. Her face dropped instantly. ‘I think you should handle it yourself.’ She said and dropped the phone on his thighs.

‘Kate I’m sorry I didn’t know pearl would be calling, I wouldn’t have asked you……’ Nectar paused when Kate waved her hands in the air indicating she doesn’t want to hear it.

He hanged up and drove on in silence.

*******

Wilson stormed out after Catherine left with Kate. He drove on top speed nearly running into another car after reading the D.N.A test result.

‘She even added an address.’ Wilson hissed and drove on.

He stood at the door for a long while, and convinced himself he needed to be a man. Wilson then rang the bell.

Stacy left work earlier, trying to figure out how to explain things to Kate without telling on her Mom who wouldn’t back down on her plans.

Jane told her daughter she would only carry out her plans this time if Stacy snitch on her. ‘What’s wrong with this woman?’ Stacy thought about Jane’s last warnings and quickly grabbed her phone which she had turned off since morning and dialed Kate’s number then she was saved by the bell.

She rushed to the door, opened it and gasped. Wilson kept staring until the tone of Stacy’s phone jolted him out of his thoughts. She left the door ajar, then kept staring at her phone. There was silence for a while and he spoke.

‘Why don’t you pick that up, it could be someone in need of help.’ Wilson said stammering. Stacy turned around slowly and Wilson was right behind her.

She saw the door closed and wondered when he followed and she didn’t figure that out.

‘Was she that scared of him now?’ She murmured quietly to herself.

That was the same man she would have hurt a lot if she had gone ahead terminating her sister’s life.

Her the call ended at that very moment.

Stacy stood in the middle of the room, trying not to look back.

‘Are you Stacy?’ Wilson asked taking a step closer when her phone interrupted again.

She didn’t hesitate to answer it.

‘Hello Mrs. Glover.’ Stacy looked back and walked a bit far from her Dad.

‘I called work and was told you left early. Are you okay?’ Kate asked lying on her bed so exhausted to the point sleep has even eluded her.

‘Miss I’m sorry, I…’

‘Stacy that’s fine. You probably had good reasons.’ Kate said interrupting her. ‘Have you seen your Dad, I mean my Dad? He should be there any moment from now.’

‘What are you talking about Miss Santa?’ She said and looked back at Wilson who was just staring at the room.

‘Stacy let’s not pretend anymore because i know my dad is there. That also should tell you I know the rest of the things you were very good at hiding from me. Talk to him and call me once he leaves.’ Kate said and didn’t even wait for Stacy to talk. Stacy’s silence confirmed what Kate wanted to know so she hanged up.

‘How did you know the results were right when you haven’t read it yourself?’ Matts asked after Kate told her the new twist in her family when they got home.

‘I just confirmed that because my dad is there, meaning he read the result and that could mean we are siblings.’ Kate said forcing a smile.

‘How are you handling all these?’ Matts asked honestly.

‘Matts, I’m broken, crushed and barely able to think straight now and I just want it all to be over soon.’

‘Katie, let Nectar handle the rest now.’ Matts said hugging her so tight.

‘Matts, I can’t breathe, release me already.’ Kate silently said amidst laughter.

‘I can see you ladies are having a good time.’ They heard nectar said behind them.

‘Not really.’ Matt’s said examining her friend’s expression.

‘Kate, I’m going out for a while, would you want me to get you anything.’ He asked putting up a face.

‘Just let me know if you would be late, so I don’t wait up for you.’ Kate said and looked away until Nectar exited.

‘Is everything okay here Katie, you know you can trust me, right?’ Matts asked when there was total silence after Nectar left.

‘It’s just this whole thing with my family, nothing to worry about.’ She said and Matts just feigned a smile.

‘Why are you staring at me as if you’ve just seen a ghost.’ Stacy shot back at her Dad who finally asked her to grab a seat. Stacy took an offence to the fact that he had to order her around in her own house.

‘Nice apartment you have here.’ Wilson managed to say.

‘What do you want Mr. Santa?’ Stacy asked rudely.

‘I’m glad you know my name that should explain why i came here instead of asking you to come home.’

‘Look I have been on my own for so long and I’m not sure I need a man who would rather order me around.’ Stacy said avoiding his Dad’s gaze.

She could feel his blood boiling. Stacy thought of running into her closet when he strikes. The thought of that childish act made her smile.

‘You just smiled, then I believe you know who iam young woman.’ Wilson said calmly.

‘I don’t I want to know who you are Mr. Santa. I’m sitting here because I owe your daughter that respect.’ She said and tried walking out on him.

‘Wait Stacy! Who is your mother?’ Wilson asked almost immediately.

‘Really, you ask me that as if I was there with you when you decided to impregnate an innocent woman and couldn’t have the decency as a man to own up to your responsibility.’

Wilson sighed. ‘I’m sorry, I didn’t know you exist. I’ve been looking for you for years since I found out. If I knew trust me, I’m everything you heard about but to deny my own blood life is a No for me.’ Wilson said with confidence this time.

Then her phone beeped, Stacy checked the message and replied.

‘Okay I have heard you, can you go now. I have a few things to work on and I don’t need any distraction.’ Stacy said with almost certainty.

‘Can we have lunch together tomorrow?’ He asked scratching his head.

‘Don’t push it because I don’t have time. My boss would need me handling things tomorrow.’ She tried to make an excuse.

‘I would talk to your sister to give you the day off.’ Wilson assured her. His statement rang very loud in her mind.

Kate is now her sister. She instantly thought about how she was going to handle the betrayal part of her story.

‘I would think about it and send you a text. And don’t worry I have your number.’ Stacy said and paused in her steps.

‘Okay.’ He replied walking away as Stacy seemed to be in a hurry.

‘Do you care about Kate at all? She asked to his surprise. ‘Don’t worry you don’t have to answer now and you can go now.’ She walked away indoors leaving him to find his way out.

Wilson walked out sadly but smiled for a while.

‘Pearl you said it was urgent, yet you are just sitting here without uttering a word.’ Nectar said calmly. ‘You know I left my heavily pregnant wife home alone, if it’s not important any more just let me go.’ He said again.

‘Saint am I holding you? For your information you had better make sure you ask Jane out of your house before she poison the whole household.’ Pearl finally found her voice.

‘What are you talking about?’ Nectar asked not surprised.

‘Whoever Poisoned you would strike again and don’t ask me how I know all that because you insulted my intelligence last week.’

Stacy poisoned me, and if Jane is about to do the same thing then they could be working together like what Matts mentioned Drake overheard.’ Nectar was in deep thoughts.

‘I’m just telling you this because I love you and i might be carrying your baby too.’ Pearl blurted out and Nectar nearly collapsed, as his jaw dropped and he just slumped into his chair.

‘Saint are you okay?’ She stood up and tapped him.

‘Don’t you dare touch me.’ He snarled and walked out while she followed calling out to him.

Nectar drove around for a while; his tears were just not coming.

‘How do I tell Kate my mistakes have landed me into a trap? She hasn’t forgiven me yet.’ He thought for a while and drove home.

Nectar sat outside in his car outside for hours before driving in.

He walked into his bedroom and Kate seemed to be in the shower. He kept strolling up and down.

‘Why are you pacing up and making faces.’ He heard Kate ask faintly.

Nectar froze at one corner and contemplated on whether to tell his wife and if he should how was he going to go about it. He was still thinking when Kate spoke up.

‘You can turn off the lights when you are done staring into space. Goodnight.’ She said and coiled up in her bed.
