The Female Warrior And The Alpha Episode 38 by Yasminne
Theme : Killian’s Father
“This is so weird…”
I smiled at Jay, who was pouting because I was leaving.
“I can’t believe I’m not going with you.” He continued, walking me to the car. I stopped to give him a big hug and said, “I’ll be back before you know it!”
Matt, the engineer, had arrived sometime in the night to sort out Jay’s predicament with the box strapped to his neck. Poor Jay…
“Don’t look so worried, I can fix it!” Matt called out from inside the house. Jay put on a smile to ease my worry, when it should’ve be the other way round.
“You’ll be fine.” I said, trying to reassure him as well as me.
Theo was already in the car, reading some documents, waiting for me to say my goodbyes. He was a little startled when Kaitlyn gave him a goodbye hug, and Magnus gave him a pat on the back. He smiled at me gleefully, flustered and overjoyed at their friendliness.
The three BlackShadowed members got into another car with my two fellow pack members, they’ve gotten quite close during this trip. I said my goodbyes to my family one last time before getting into the car. The driver started to drive as soon as I got in, we were on our way to the airport.
The tension between Theo and I had been unbearable since last night, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Judging by how his gaze couldn’t move from my lips since early morning, I’m guessing he feels the same.
“How did you find so many tickets last minute?” I asked curiously. It’s crazy how everybody was able to travel at the same time, with it being last minute and all.
“We’ll be taking the jet.”
I took a double-take, shocked at his response and how casually he said it.
“A…jet?” I repeated, narrowing my eyes in confusion.
“Yup, a private jet.”
“You have a private jet?” I exclaimed, slapping my hand on forehead. “That’s so…extra!”
He glanced up from what he was reading and said, “I guess it’s quite over the top, but it originally belonged to Maxwell. He liked buying unnecessary luxury items, he had also bought a helicopter and another private jet.”
“What the…?”
“I sold them, they were a waste of money. I kept one private jet for emergencies, and for when I need to attend a meeting in a different state or country.” He continued, resuming his reading.
The car finally pulled up in front of the airport, at terminal two, and we all got out of the cars. Some of the warriors had most their face covered with masks, I could tell they were trying to hide the puffiness from sleeping in the car.
They looked at Theo expectantly before he strode forward and led the group. We walked to the reception desk that had a sign that read ‘Private’, and let Theo do all the talking. I wasn’t paying much attention to what was being said until I noticed the receptionist checking out my mate.
I frowned at her blatant staring as he reached for his back pocket for his phone. She literally hasn’t blinked yet, I thought. Although I had the urge to show that women that he was taken, my personality seemed to overpower that feeling.
I knew there was no reason to be insecure and mad at someone openly appreciating my mates good looks. In fact, I should be flattered that she thinks he’s attractive.
“Your jet is ready for you, Mr Hunter.” She said coyly, standing up. “Right this way.”
She hadn’t acknowledged the rest of the crew yet, her eyes never strayed from Theo other than when she glanced at the screen that was in front of her.She wore a pencil skirt and a pretty blue blouse, an outfit that showcased her body. She exuded confidence with every step she took, it made me look down at my casual outfit and feel a little bad about myself.
The white jet came into view when we walked outside into the airfield, where the jets and other aircraft arrive and leave. I watched the jet in awe, it was going to be my first time ever getting on and flying in a jet.
“I hope you enjoy your flight, Mr Hunter.” The receptionist said, touching his right arm lightly.
He frowned and looked down at her hand in surprise and annoyance, making her clear her throat in embarrassment.
He glanced to where I was, grabbed my hand in front of her and said, “Thank you, we will enjoy our flight.”
Her lips dropped from a smile to a grim straight line as her gaze focused on our conjoined hands. She looked up at me, flashed me a strained smile and said, “Have a good day.”
I smiled back, more genuinely because I was amused at her reaction, and said, “You too!”
She walked away first, her eyes lingering on Theo once more before getting out of sight. I mean, she told me to ‘have a good day’ so at least she maintained professionalism.
“Elisia?” He called out through the mate bond.
“Yeah?”
“You look beautiful.”
I tightened my hold on his hand in response and smiled. Once we walked across to the plane, we climbed the steps and entered the jet. We managed to agree on where to sit much quicker than I thought, and the plane took off even faster than we expected.
The chairs were comfortable and spacious, something I wasn’t really used to. I couldn’t stop looking around, trying to capture all the beautiful details in the walls. I could see Theo grinning at me in my peripheral vision as time passed.
All of a sudden, a flight attendant walked to the front and started speaking into the microphone.
“For your safety and comfort, please remain seated with your seat belt fastened until the Captain turns off the Fasten Seat Belt sign. This will indicate that we have parked at the gate and that it safe for you to move about. We are looking forward to seeing you board again in the near future. Have a nice day!”
I looked out the window in shock, have we arrived already? I slumped into my cushiony seat and sighed, we got here so fast. Now that I’ve experienced flying in a jet, I wonder how flying in a regular airplane will compare now.
The plane landed and came to a stop at the gate we’re supposed to get off at. We rushed out the plane and made our way through the airport.
“Kobi is going to pick us up.” Theo said out loud, zipping through the crowd. My eyes widened in alarm when I heard him say that.
“Are you serious?” I exclaimed through the mind-link.
I felt his confusion through the bond as he replied with, “What? You don’t like him?”
I raised my eyebrows at him with an unimpressed expression before I realised…I hadn’t told him about Kobi.
“Didn’t you wonder how Killian found out my true rank?” I asked.
“I did wonder, but what does that have to do with Kobi?”
“You were with me when Irene found out. Well, it turns out that she had gone to the manor to look for Kobi right after we left her house. When we had come back and started eating dinner, he had returned from speaking to her sister. He couldn’t stop staring at me throughout the entire meal time.” I explained.”No way…”
I watched Theo stop in his tracks and look at me with a hurt expression. “Why would he do that?” He questioned, not believing his friend would do such a thing. “Confiding with the Rogue Force, where is the honour in that? My own Gamma?”
“It’s just a hunch, I may be wrong.” I started to say.
“No, it’s too much of a coincidence for it to have happened the day after Irene found out.” He admitted, shaking his head. “And if you say she spoke to him right after, there is no doubt she told him. Those twins are inseparable.”
The warriors had caught up by now, and was watching us with puzzled expressions; wondering why we weren’t moving.
“It’ll be fine, he won’t try anything when I’m around.” He said with certainty. “Fuck, I can’t believe I can’t trust my third in command.”
Waves of frustration, anger and hurt ripped through the mate bond, making me feel his emotions. A part of me was hoping that Kobi and Irene hadn’t been the ones to inform Killian about me, just so that Theo didn’t have to lose a friend. But at the moment, it seems unlikely that that was the case.
“Let’s do this!” I cheered through the mate-bond.
We finally started moving again, walking past the luggage carousel and into the arrivals lobby. Deja vu hit me as I saw Kobi, once again, standing in the crowd of people. Theo walked beside me closely as we made our way towards him.
He looked at Theo first and greeted him. “Alpha.” He said, slightly bowing. He turned to look at me, making Theo visibly stiffen. “Elisia, how are you?”
I try hard to smile and replied with, “I’ve been great, thanks.”
He nodded without much expression, turned to the rest and greeted them before leading us to the cars waiting for us outside. Kobi insisted to drive Theo and I, but Theo denied his request and said that he would be driving instead. Way to make it obvious…
He raised his eyebrow at this, but didn’t argue.
I sat in the passenger seat with Theo driving and Kobi sitting in the back seat. I tried to act as normal around him as I possibly could, but it was hard – this man was possibly conspiring with rogues to get me killed or taken hostage. It gave me shivers just thinking about it.
The drive was quiet and suspenseful, well, it was for Theo and I. I tried hard to not look at the rear-view mirror to avoid looking too suspicious. The one time I did, I made eye contact with Kobi who then flashed a grin at me.
I grinned back, while inside I was shaking with anxiety and anger. I wasn’t sure if I was imagining it or not, but that grin did not seem friendly. At all.
We were finally pulling up to the familiar looking Alpha Manor and got out the car. Leona and Julian rushed out to greet us as soon as we entered the driveway.
Leona ran and jumped into my arms, squealing in-coherent words and sentences. I managed to catch one sentence, “I’m so happy you’re back!”
She stepped back and greeted her Alpha with a mock salute and a punch on the arm. Theo winced at the sudden violence, but laughed at her excitement.
Julian approached us with a wide grin and hugged Theo first. “Bro, you spent the night at another pack!”
“Glad to see you back.” He then said to me, ruffling the top of my hair.
“It’s good to be back.” I retorted, really meaning it. Weirdly enough, it felt like coming back home. “Let’s go in.”
We went into the manor and everyone started to go their separate ways. Theo had to rush back out with Julian, who had insisted he had to take a look at an improving fighter. The warriors left together as usual, which left Leona, Kobi and I. We were all in the sitting room, chilling on the sofas.”Shall we catch up?” Leona asked gleefully. Realising Kobi was still here, her demeanour changed to a moody version of herself.
“Kobi, it’s the policy check day and it’s your turn to do it.” She reminded him.
He rolled his eyes and said, “I was just about to do it, jeez.”
I was taken aback by his sudden attitude and the cold atmosphere between them. I looked at them both, wondering what had happened while I was away.
He stood up, not looking away from his phone, and left the manor. I noticed that the door was slammed harder than usual. I let out a long breath of air as I recollected my thoughts.
“So…what was that?” I asked, crossing my arms over each other.
“Well, ever since you told me the whole Irene and Kobi thing yesterday, I had been quite annoyed with him. Even his presence annoys me, even though I know it’s not confirmed that he’s the one who ratted you out to the Rogue Force. I don’t think him finding out and the next day Killian knowing was purely a coincidence.”
“It’s weird that we haven’t assumed that Irene told the Rogue Force on her own…” I commented thoughtfully. “Doing something like that requires fearlessness, something Kobi definitely has.”
“I really doubt that he doesn’t know, they tell each other everything.” She said, reminding me of what Theo said earlier.
We sat in silence, processing everything we’d just said. A thought had come into mind, making me gasp out loud.
“You said you knew why Killian was targeting me!” I exclaimed, reminding her. “What’s the reason?”
She watched me closely and chuckled a little before shifting in her seat. “I feel like this reason could be the one.”
“Tell me!”
“Okay, but listen carefully.”
I cupped my ear dramatically to show that I was listening very carefully.
“So both my parents are lawyers, and a lot of their clients are apart of the werewolf community.” She started to say. I was already familiar with her parents because they’re popular in the community; everyone agrees they’re the best lawyers to get.
“A long time ago, one of their clients was your father actually.”
I raised my eyebrows at this in surprise, not expecting her to say that.
“Woah, why did he need a lawyer?”
“At the time, your father was being held accountable for the death of the Leader of The Rogue Force.”
“Killian’s father?” I exclaimed, putting my hand over my mouth in shock.
She nodded and said, “You bet.”
“Shit.” I whispered, my eyes wide.
“The argument was that your father insisted that Killian’s father was trespassing so he ordered the rogue to be killed. Another rogue testified against your father, insisting that his leader never reached the borders.”
“And then what happened?”
“Alexander Gray, with the help of my father, was just given a warning.” She said with a shrug. “I personally think Alex was telling the truth, you see, my parents would never defend someone they think is guilty.”
“No wonder Killian feels bitter…” I trailed off in realisation.
“And no wonder he agreed to Maxwell’s plan nineteen years ago.” Leona added. My eyes widened even more as everything started to fit into place.
“So does this mean he wants to kill me? To avenge his father, even though I have nothing to do with his death?” I questioned out loud.
“He probably doesn’t even care, all he knows is that you are the blood and flesh of the man who ordered the death of his father.”
“True…”
“Is the silver thingy on Jay’s neck getting fixed soon?” She asked, her brow furrowing in concern.
“I hope so, the engineer we were looking for, Matt, was able to make it. He was already able to slow down the amount of time the silver liquid would be injected into Jay, so that’s a good start. According to him, it was annoying to sleep with.”
“Poor Jay…” She murmured, looking sad.
“I know.” I agreed, sighing out loud.
“How did he react when he found out he wasn’t going to return here with you?” She asked, chuckling.
“He was shocked and annoyed, he couldn’t believe it.” I replied with a smile. “I won’t lie, it was petty of Theo to do Jay’s documentation first just so he’d be the first to leave.”
“Maybe he wanted to spend time with you without him by your side all the time.” She pointed out with a cheeky wink. “You may not notice it, but you and Jay are always together – considering Jay is an un-mated male, it’s probably hard for Theo to watch. Maybe this short trip will be good for you.”
“I haven’t stopped worrying about that stupid silver liquid box strapped to him.” I confessed in frustration. “It’s my fault he’s in that predicament in the first place, I feel so bad.”
“It’s not like you put it on him yourself, so don’t say that!”
“I told Theo about everything.” I said, swiftly changing the conversation. “He knows about our plan and stuff.”
“The plan to clear your father’s name?”
“Yup, and he’s totally down to help me. We’re going to be going all together, the more the merrier.”
“I really hope we find that letter, it’ll change everything!” She exclaimed, putting her head in her hands.
“I also plan to come out to the leaders about my true rank, preferably after I find the letter.” I added.
She nodded thoughtfully. “That way you can explain why the Rogues are after you. Great plan.”
All I hoped was that everything goes to plan.
