Theme : Injuries are a pain

With a growl ripping out of me, I lunged at her and threw a lethal liver shot.
You damn right I did.
“Oh damn!” The announcer yelped, shocked by my choice of punch.
My blow was delivered to Irene’s left side, right beneath the ribcage, where the liver is located.
I stood in front of her and watching her fall to her knees, crying out in pain.
I smirked, knowing what her body was going through.
Her body was going into shut down mode; the impact of my punch had over-stimulated the nerves around her liver making her blood vessels dilate, heart rate drop as well as a rapid reduction in blood pressure.
I admit it was a dirty move, but it’s also legal.
To make it more interesting for the crowd, I had allowed her to get back onto her feet. I knew many people probably thought I made a stupid mistake by allowing her to recover from my previous blow.
Nope.

I knew exactly what I was doing.
The impact of my hit to her liver meant her body temporarily doesn’t have the ability to get blood to her brain. I knew that her body’s natural defense mechanism is lying down as quickly as possible to even out the blood supply.
In other words, It’ll be like fighting a drunk Irene.
Firstly, let’s aim for the face since she took pleasure is fucking up mine.
I threw a combination of corkscrew punches, a punch thrown in an overhand, arching motion that twists on impact intending to cause a cut.
Many bloody cuts.
With a panicked expression, she started to run backwards, sometimes tripping over her feet, to get a break from the series of punches.
I followed her and backed her up to the wall where the crowd went crazy; shouting and cheering us on.
A weird, sharp feeling pulled in my insides, making me cough into my hand.
The crowd quietened as they watched me stare at my hand. A number of gasps could be heard from every direction of the fighters cage.
Blood.
I had coughed up blood.
I gulped feeling uneasy about it, but proceeded to wipe the blood on my top.
It should be no surprise, my ribcage was broken and disformed from Irene’s hits.
I’ll worry about it later.
Right now, I had to deal with her and wipe that smug smile of her face.
I roughly grabbed a fistful of her top and threw her beside me, ordering her to return to the middle of the fighting cage.
I needed to finish this fight once and for all.
She scampered away from me and even further away from the middle, delaying even more time.
She was clever, I’ll give her that.
She knew if she wasted time, the effects of my liver shot would go away.
I’ll just have to fight her here, right beside the loud crowd.
I focused on attacking the mid-section or abdominal region, as opposed to concentrating on the head as a target.
Knowing her reflexes were altered, I took pleasure in throwing a series of roundhouse punches.
She buckled over from the pain, but never forgot to glare at me after every punch.I wanted her on the ground so I decided to fight up close and use short range punches. I threw countless of uppercuts and body blows before she was completely on the floor.

She started gasping and looking up at me as though she wanted to say something.
I kneeled by her to hear what she had to say. Would she yield or let the judges do the talking?
Or maybe she’ll apologise…?
“I’ll make you pay bitch.” She croaked, grabbing my hand and digging her nails into it.
I snatched my hand away in disgust, and to think I thought she’d be nice during her final moments as ‘an undefeated champion’.
I shook my head at her, various feelings coursing through me.
I kicked her, unexpectantly, right in the stomach. Just to be sure, she couldn’t get up.
And with my heart beating hard against my chest, I raised my arm up to the judges.

Commence the countdown.

I looked down at Irene’s form, watching her failed attempts to get up.

I glanced to where my friends sat, tears pooling my eyes.
They were all standing up, wearing various expressions. I was sure that Jay and my fellow pack members were ecstatic by my win.

“The winner is Elisia Knight, The Imperial Pride Pack!” The announcer declared, smiling widely.
The crowd went wild, cheering and shouting for my win. I waved to all of them, overwhelmed by their support even though their fellow pack member was beaten.
I had done it.
I beat Irene Wolf.
I’ll return to my pack as a champion, once again.
I looked towards my group of friends again, suddenly overwhelmed with emotions when I saw Julian and Leona clapping their hands and wearing huge, proud smiles.
Jay and my pack members were walking down the podium, on their way to greet me.
My eyes searched for Theo and found him walking into the fighting cage, through the door I’d come in from.
He stopped and stared at me with an expression that looked a lot like awe and proudness.

Was he really proud of me?
My heart rate began increase just from seeing him.
But then I noticed something and frowned in confusion.
He was coming in the wrong way.
He’s supposed to come through the same door as the person he’s supposed to greet.
Which is Irene, because she’s his fighter and he’s her Alpha.
Jay and my pack members were supposed to come in through that door and he should’ve come in through Irene’s door.
I chuckled, wincing at how much it hurt.
“You came in through the wrong door, silly.” I teased him, knowing he’d hear me. “Don’t you know the tradition?”
He didn’t stop or even falter in his steps as he approached me.
“I know the tradition very well.” He replied, catching my gaze. “You’re mistaken, because I’m not here to greet Irene.”My lips parted in shock, and my eyes widened when he said that.

He’s here to greet me ?
I twirled around to see Irene being helped up by Kobi.
“Her brother is here to do that.” He added, making me look back at him.
I watched his tall figure get larger as he got closer.
The same sharp pain bursted in my chest, making me take a sharp, painful intake of air.
My vision got blurry as I clutched my chest in agony. I knew the pain was from my crushed ribs.
I looked up at Theo in alarm before coughing up heaps of blood.
His expression went from content to scared within the split second I had collapsed to the ground.
“NO!”
Theo’s loud, alarmed cry rang throughout the cage.
My eyes started to close, almost caving into the darkness.
I felt my hair being brushed off my face and a warm hand cup my bruised cheek.
“You’ll be alright Elisia. You hear me? You’ll be fine.”
Theo’s words of reassurance sounded far and faint, even though I knew he was right beside me.
My head suddenly lay on someone’s warm lap, I forced my eyes open to see Theo looking down at me.
His brow was furrowed and was biting his lip in worry, I had the urge to smoothen that frown. His eyes darkened at the sight of me struggling to breathe.
I wanted to chuckle, because this is the most emotion I’d ever seen on his face.
I also wanted to cry; he was displaying this much emotion because of me.
The edges of my eyesight was getting darker, making it hard to keep my eyes open.
So I closed them shut.
“No, stay awake. I need you to stay awake, please.”
The raw emotion and desperation in his voice alone made me want to jump up and say ‘I’m okay!’.
But I couldn’t, I couldn’t fight this darkness even if I tried.
“Elisia!”
Jay’s faint voice reached my ears.
His voice sounded far away, but I felt his presence near me.
Theo growled possessively. “Don’t touch her!”
I heard rushed footsteps and a female gasping out loud.
“You poor thing! She’ll be alright…right?” Leona asked, sounding horrified.
“Give her to me!” Jay barked, sounding equally as pissed.
A vicious growl ripped from Theo, quietening the entire arena. He was their Alpha after all, but not Jay’s.
Theo held me tightly and protectively, waves of authority and dominance filling the air.
He was in protective, possessive Alpha mode.
“That’s not a good idea, Jay.” Leona said in a wary tone. I could hear her backing up slowly.
“Don’t anger him, he’s in no state to comply with anyone, not when it comes to Elisia.”
Of course, she knew about us…but Jay didn’t. He didn’t know why Theo was behaving like this.
I couldn’t hold on to listen to their conversation any longer.
Theo sensed it before anyone. “No! Stay awake, please! Get the medics!”
“Medics!”
“They’re preoccupied, Irene needed immediate attention.”
“Get them, now!”
That’s when I gave into the darkness and blacked out.

~•~
Beep…beep…beep
I groaned at the annoying sound, and stuck my hand out to stop the alarm.
Instead, I felt a sharp sting at my wrist, making me gasp in alarm.
What the?
I peeled open my eyes, blinking hard to get used to the bright light.
Where was I?
I glanced at my arm and saw a needle attatched to my wrist, covered with tape.
I’m in the hospital.
Good
I slowly turned my head, realizing the beeping sound was coming from the cardiac monitor.
My eyes scanned to the hospital room, frowning at the state of it.
The chairs in the room were broken and upside down, the door was hanging by it’s hinges and the blinds were crooked and tangled.
What kind of hospital is this?
The door opened suddenly, making me tense up.
A male in a white coat, holding a clipboard walked in.
I sighed in relief and smiled at the familiar face.
“Dr Ethan Stevenson, Emily brother.” I joked, as he stood by my bed.
“Here I am.” He chuckled, gesturing to himself.
“You’re my doctor?” I asked, remembering that he was based in the other town’s hospital.
“Well, I’m a chest specialist remember?” He reminded me with a smile. He leaned forward and put a pen light in both my eyes. “I came to this town specifically for the fight.”
“I know it’s a little off topic, but have you figured out the cause of the chest pain from last week?”
He shifted back into position and sighed. “No updates or progress, I’m afraid. You should know that we’re trying our best. If Emily doesn’t find anything, then I’m afraid there won’t be a diagnosis.”
“Wow.” I said, staring at the ceiling.
He glanced around the messy room and sighed again.
“You’ll have to excuse how the room looks, it doesn’t usually look like this. You would’ve been moved to another room, but you were in such an unstable condition that it wasn’t worth it.”
“Yeah, I noticed the mess. What happened?”
He griminced before he responded, “Let’s just say that the Alpha wasn’t comfortable with having an unmated male treat his mate.”
The words got lodged in my throat, feeling shocked from what he said.
He saw my alarmed expression and laughed. “It’s not hard to guess why Alpha Theo was behaving like that. He was overly possessive and protective over you, obvious traits of a mate.”
I let out a deep breath, unsure of how I felt about him knowing. “Right.”
Ethan watched me carefully and said, “Luckily, only I was around to see him behave like that. There must a reason as to why you haven’t announced you’re mates, so don’t worry. I’m keeping my mouth shut.” “Thank you.” I said sincerely, giving him a grateful smile. “Erm, how long was I out?”
“Around five hours. A few torturous hours for some, you have good friends.” He responded, grinning.
Wow.

“The fight must’ve took a lot out of me.”
“It did, but I heard you won, congratulations.” He retorted, giving me a thumbs up. “Now for the details of your injuries.”
I sighed, not looking forward to hearing how badly beat up I was from Irene. This is the most injured I’ve ever been from any match.
Unfortunately.
“All your ribs are broken.” He started to say.
I already started to cringe because the sentence usually begins with ‘you have a couple fractures’ not ‘your ribs are broken’.
“Bruising and swelling on your cheekbones, lips, stomach and ankles as well as a collerbone fracture.”
“Damn, that all sounds so bad.”
“It is bad, really bad but your body is already healing itself.”
Now for the all important question.
“How long would it take to heal?”
He let out a breath as he looked at his notes. “Because of the condition of your ribs, I would say about three days.”
I gaped at him, my jaw hanging.
“Three whole days to recover?”
He laughed at me and said, “It’s not that long!”
Erm, yes it is!
To someone who’d only have to spend the night in hospital and be completely healed in the morning, three days is a long time.
“I’ve just never had to spend that much time recovering in hospital.” I explained, sighing quietly.
“Well, your injuries are a lot more extensive then you realise.”
I lay on my back, staring at the white ceiling, dreading having to spend two nights here.
“Can you sit me up, I feel a little uncomfortable.” I requested.
“Of course.”
He grabbed the remote control by the bed and pressed a button. The top half of the mattress started to lift and sit me up.
Once I reached a comfortable position, I gestured him to stop.
“Since it’ll be hard to move just use this remote control to lie or sit up and there’s a red button beside your bed that calls reception if you need help.”
I nodded and looked down at what I was wearing.
I was put into a blue hospital gown. “Who dressed me?”
He didn’t look up from his clipboard as he jotted down my vitals. “One of the female nurses.”
“She’s also the person to wrap the bandage around your chest and waist.”
I raised an eyebrow at this and proceeded to look down my gown to find white bandages wrapped around my torso.
I’ve got to thank her…and Ethan.
“Thank you.”

Ethan looked up from his notes in surprise. “Not a problem, it’s my job after all.”
If I wasn’t so set on becoming a warrior, I would’ve went down the medical route.
“Okay, would you like me to call in everyone?”
My hands went up to my face in worry, did I want them to see me like this?
Ethan saw my action and sent me a small smile. “They’ve seen you in a much worse condition then you’re in now.”
He’s right, I thought as I smoothed my hair back.
“I would like you to call them in, thanks.” I said, thanking him in advance.
“Okay, take it easy.”
I watched him walk out, leaving me, once again, alone in the room.
It had only been a few seconds after Ethan left, that I heard several rushed footsteps approaching my room.
The door was flung open by a frenzied looking Leona.
Unfortunately, since the door was already almost broken, her forceful opening had resulted in the door falling onto the floor.
“Oops, didn’t mean to do that.” She commented, staring at the hospital door.
Her head swiveled towards me and let out a relieved squeal.
“You’re awake!” She exclaimed, rushing to my side with Julian following closely behind.
“You look like you got hit by an airplane.” He commented, not bothering to hide his smile.
I started to laugh, but Leona was far from amused as she started to smack the back of his head and scold him for making fun of the situation.
“We were all so worried!” Leona said, holding my hand.

I held hers back tightly and sent her a happy smile. “Thank you for caring.”
“Why wouldn’t we?” Julian retorted, wearing a grin.
I looked behind them, wondering where the others were.
They noticed this and said, “Theo and Jay had gone out to shift and hunt after four hours of waiting for you to wake up.”
“Right.” I replied, not saying anything else.
“Did the doctor tell you how long you’ll be staying in hospital?”
“About three days.”
Julian let out a long, low whistle. “That’s pretty long.”
“Yeah, unfortunately my injuries are quite serious. All my ribs turned out to be broken.”
“Broken? Not fractured?” Leona yelped in horror.
“Damn, a human wouldn’t have been able to survive that.” Julian added, eyes widening as he took in my immobile figure. “Can you even move?”
“I haven’t tried.” I chuckled. “But I’m assuming I’m on a lot of painkillers because I can’t feel any pain.”
“Elisia?”
My gaze turned towards the door, immediately recognising the tall figure.
“Theo.”
His hair was dishevelled and was only wearing joggers. Why, oh, why was he half naked?
He hesitantly walked deeper into the room, not breaking eye contact until he was right by my side.
Julian and Leona silently started to leave to give us privacy.
“You don’t have to walk out backwards, just leave normally.” Theo remarked, not even looking at them.
They stifled a laugh and rushed out the room like a couple of kids. I watched after them, shaking my head in amusement.
They were so made for each other.
“Elisia.”
Just by saying my name, he had my attention again.
“How are you feeling?”
“I feel fine, no pain.”
He nodded, running his hand through his messy hair.
“Why are you half naked?” I blurted, cheeks turning red.
He looked down at himself in a way that suggested he hadn’t noticed he wasn’t wearing a shirt.

“Oh, I didn’t have time to put on a shirt after shifting back. I came as soon I felt you wake up.”
I broke eye contact because of how shy I felt.
The same girl who had just triumphed in a challenging fighting match, is feeling shy because of a few simple words from Theo.
“You were amazing…during the match, I mean.”
I looked at him with wide eyes, shocked that he would say such a thing.
Compliment my fighting skills.
The first day I came here, he had boasted about Irene’s incredible fighting skills and hadn’t even wished I win.
“Thank you.” I responded, unsure what I should say next.
I could feel the mate bond between us humming, feeling stronger than I’d ever felt it.

What had changed?
“Listen.”
He captured my gray eyes with his blue ones, intensely holding my gaze.
“I have something to tell you.”
