“Mia,where are you going to?” Darrel asked suddenly, startling the day living out of me.
My heart pounded against my chest as i turned slowly.

His eyes was now clearly opened and he was sitting up on the bed.

“I..i wanted to pee” I said.
“The bathroom is over there,you don’t have to go out of the door” He said.
“Uh…Yeah” I said thinking of a cover up.
“I did not want to disturb you guys, you both are tired and you need to rest” I said.

“Ohh…you shouldn’t bother about that, Mia” He yawned.

He should sleep already!

“I will use this bathroom then,you can go back to sleep” I said.
“No,i need to watch you sleep. Once you’re done,come to bed” He said.
“Just sleep if you want to,I’ll be fine” I said to him before walking into the bathroom.

I shut the little door behind me and sighed deeply.
I dropped my flip flops and walked to the wall mirror.

I’m still looking the way i use to,so what’s wrong?
Where’s that passion?
Am i also becoming weak?
No!

It should be because I’m hospitalised,I’m yet to get well enough.
That’s it right?

I turned on the faucet, placed my palms under the running water and splashed some water on my face.
I splashed more and more till i felt a bit okay.

Water scrolled down my face and i looked around for a napkin to wipe my face with.

Darrel should be asleep now.

I walked to the door and picked my flip flops.
Even if i succeed in getting out of this ward,the gatekeeper might not let me out.

Well… he’s not gonna know I’m a patient right?

I opened the door slowly and brought out my head first.

Haha…Darrel is deeply asleep.
I’m glad he took that liquor.

I walked out of the bathroom and closed the door slowly.
I inhaled when Nath turned in his bed.
My eyes went to the face cap beside him.
I might need that.

I walked to his bed and picked it up gently.
I walked to the door without making a sound.
I wore the face cap over my hair and adjusted it properly.

I need to go now before Darrel wakes again.

I twisted the door knob and pulled it open.
The stupid door made a sound and i quickly turned back to see if any of them was awake.

Thank goodness.

I walked out of the door and closed it after me.
I hurried across the hallway and i had to pull the face cap down when i saw doc Mart approaching.

He walked past me with two nurses rushing after him.
I guess there’s an emergency…

I walked into the reception and glanced at the…nurses chatting.
Till i got to the door,none of them took notice of me.

Wow!
Greatest nurses in the world.

This hospital isn’t safe.
Anyone can just come in and go out.

So unruly!

I stepped out of the door and started walking to the gate thinking of the excuse to give to the gatekeeper.

I hope he does not recognize me though.

“Hi” I said to the gatekeeper.
“Hello” He smiled.
“I need to get something for my brother who’s admitted here” I said.
“Ohh…Alright” He said and opened the gate.
“Thanks” I walked out and sighed in relief.

I’ll need to take a cab home .
Do i have cash with me?

Yeah,i do.

I saw a cab approaching and quickly waved it to a stop.

I alighted in front of the house, I handed the cabman his pay and watched him drive away.

I turned to the gate and of course it’s locked.
I saw my car parked in a distance.
They brought it already.

I glanced around before walking towards the wall that led to my window.

‘Did i closed my window? I hope not’ I thought as i began climbing the wall.
It was a bit difficult for me but i managed to get to my window…

Thank goodness it’s not locked!

I shifted the curtain and quickly hopped in.

I sat on the bed and rested for a while.
I pulled off the face cap and placed it on the bed.

Why do i feel tired after climbing the wall?
Is it because I’ve not recovered fully?
Yeah! That should be it.

I brushed back my hair with my hands before standing up from the bed.
I walked into the bathroom and got the key of the drawer from the cabinet.

I walked back to my room and inserted the key into the last drawer lock.

What if i had not locked this particular drawer and kept the key far away.
Darrel would have found out while searching for my undies and i would have been locked up like Steve.

Nah!

I pulled the drawer opened and stared at my costume.

‘It hurt me deeply whenever i hear of the innocent people dieing by her hand. What if any of her relative is being murdered that way? Or what if she is murdered that way’ I shuddered as Darrel’s words rang in my head.

“Damn!” I exhaled deeply.

I shouldn’t think about that now..
I should better hurry and return to the hospital before they notice my absence.

I pulled off my clothes and started getting into my ninja outfit.

I was sliding down the rope minutes later clad in my ninja outfit and mask.
I didn’t bothered putting on a wig.

My boot touched the ground and i disconnected the rope and started walking towards my car.

???

I pushed the brown gate and it gave way.

I almost thought the gate was locked.
Don’t they have a gatekeeper?

They do!
Boss mentioned it.

Good for him though!
I would have hurt him or kill him on the spot.
He should be grateful.

I walked towards the front porch with my eyes sticking around.
I confirmed there was no one in sight before sliding my skeleton key into the key lock.

I barged into their bedroom and pointed the pistol to the direction of the bed.

They were sleeping!
The couple I’m here to kill are peacefully asleep.

‘No one wishes to die but she keeps murdering them in cold blood without considering the pain of their family. Loosing a close one can be so painful’ I recalled Darrel’s words and breathed in.

I placed my finger on the trigger and for the first time in years,i hesitated before shooting.
I shot them twice each on their heads.

I didn’t wait any longer,i walked out of their room and headed to the entrance door.
I’m feeling so weak now,i need to leave real fast.

I opened the door and stepped out.
The compound is dead silent, i wonder where the gatekeeper is.

I walked to the gate and opened it.
I was about stepping out when i saw the gatekeeper rushing out of his room.

Ohh..

I stood and waited for him to notice me.

He did! and gasped,he turned about to run but dragged him back and knocked him out.

He sprawled on the floor like one who is affected with a contagious disease.

I shook my head and walked out of the gate wondering why i didn’t feel the urge to kill him.

I got to my car and hop in.

I sighed and twisted the key in the ignition.
I started driving away..

I’m not myself anymore…i know that!
I pulled off my mask and rubbed my face.

I connected the wiretap..

?Mission accomplished.

I disconnected it and concentrated on driving.
I’ve never had second thought when I’m about to kill but tonight i couldn’t believe i felt pity for those couple.

I felt pity! For the first time.
I felt pity for the first time in years after my dad turned me into a monster.

Tears filled my eyes as memories came flashing back into my head.
I parked by the road side and placed my head on the steering wheel, letting out my tears.

I cried more as those memories played in front of me like a movie.

°°Don. You’re doing this to your own daughter!°° my mum’s voice sounded in my ears.
°°She’s not my daughter! You bitch!°° My dad said and right there i saw him took a knife and stabbed Mum in the face.

My scream echoed the whole house.

I opened my eyes and realized i was screaming in the car too.
I wiped my tears and turned on the ignition.

I can do anything to just forget this memories.
The pain i feel whenever i remember is almost unbearable.

I sniffed and got back on the road.
Different thought filled my head as i drove into the night.

I slowly opened to the door to my ward and peeped in.

They were still asleep.

I walked in and closed the door behind me.
Im now changed into my normal outfit.
I tip toed to the bed and crawled under the blanket.

I smiled, glad Darrel nor Nath was awake.
I dropped Nath’s face cap beside him before turning to the wall clock.

9:36pm.

Really??

I dropped my gaze on Darrel’s sleeping face and felt my breath caught in my throat.

Can i actually call him sleeping beauty?

My lashes is not even this long and curled.
This is the second time we’ll be sleeping beside each other..
Darrel is so perfect in looks, i don’t get easily moved by guys but he broke that yoke.
I’m attracted to him.

My toes curled as i stared at his lips.
I couldn’t help but smile as i remembered how he kissed me.
So romantic?

I know we’re not dating but I’ll allow him kiss me over and over again.

I raised my finger and placed it gently on his lips.
I made it stay for seconds before placing that same finger on my lips.

I grinned and felt like doing it again but he suddenly moved and i shut my eyes instantly.
I balanced my breathing to make it look like I’m sleeping.

I felt his hand smooching my hair and I’m glad the blanket hid my shivery body.
His hand left my hair to my eyes,his finger brushed my lashes and i tried hard to be stable.
His hand moved to my nose and then…my lips.

My body tightened in what seems like excitement,i felt like drawing him close.

Is he aware that I’m awake?
I guess not.

His finger roamed my lips for a while and it felt as though he was kissing me.

I couldn’t control my breathing anymore.
It came out fast but suddenly stopped the moment i felt his lips on mine.
It took all the strength in me not to respond.

He’ll know I’m awake and stop kissing me.
I want him to continue ‘forever’ .

The kiss wasn’t deep but it made my whole body feel alive..

I heard Nath yawned loudly and Darrel quickly stopped the kiss..

“What a gatekeeper!” He murmured and i nearly laughed..

“Is she having a dream? Why’s she smiling in her sleep?” He said quietly.

What!
Damn! Stop smiling Mia!

God,i can’t hold my laughter anymore.
I coughed to cover my laughter and quickly turned to the other side of the bed.

Darrel adjusted the blanket properly on my body.
I opened my eyes and smiled widely.
Nath is sleeping soundly on his bed.
I should give him a hard knock tomorrow for disrupting our sleep.

I quickly closed my eyes when i felt Darrel’s hand smooching my hair again.

You’re so sweet D.

The strong smell of coffee awoke me.
I stretched and yawned before opening my eyes.

It’s morning.

“Hey! You’ve slept enough” Darrel said, appearing in front of me.
I smiled.
“Help me up” I pouted, he smiled and did.

I noticed Nath was not in bed after i sat up.

“Where’s Nath?” I asked.
“He went home to freshen up” He said and i took a good look at him.
He’s clad in fresh clothes and his hair is styled.

Darrel can actually go bald and still be handsome.

“You’ve freshened up?” I asked.
“Yeah”
“So soon” I said.
“I think you need to check the time?” He said and i did.

Woah!

“9am” I said.
“Yep” He said.
“Wow! You should have woken me up” I said.
“I wanted to but you looked kinda tired so doc Mart said to let you be. Your breakfast is here but you’ll have coffee first, freshen up and then have your breakfast” He said.
“Okay” I said.

He handed a cup of creamy coffee to me and i gladly took it .
I took a sip and smiled.

“It’s from the hospital right?”
“Nah, i made it at home. You might not like the hospital coffee” He said and i smiled.
“Thanks” I said.

My cheeks flushed when i remembered what happened yesternight.
I stared at him and he looked so innocent.

Hey!
I know you kissed me okay?

The door opened and doc Mart walked in.

“Good morning” I greeted and he responded.

I dropped my coffee as he was about to test me with his stethoscope.

“Did you probably stressed yourself last night?” He asked.
“Uh..no” I said.
“You sure?” He asked.
“Yeah” I said slowly.

“Well, i thought i could discharge you today but that won’t be possible anymore. Your body is stressed and it needs more medical care. I’ll be back” He said and walked out.

“Did you went to get anything yourself last night? You should have woke me up to get it for you. Why the hell did i slept in the first place” He said.
“I didn’t went to get anything Darrel. I was in bed. It happens that way at times” I said.
“Okay but are you okay? Do you feel pains?” He asked.

“No, com’on” I smiled and picked my cup of coffee.

He watched me gulped down my coffee.
“I brought your clothes too” He said.
“Thanks D.” I said.

“I will go receive some fresh hair while you have your bath” He said.
“Okay”

I was returning back to Mia’s ward after spending some minutes outside.

“Hey” A nurse stopped me.
“Hi” I said.
“That lady in the ward,is she your girlfriend?” She asked.
“No” I said.
‘i wish’ I added inwardly.

“Well…i saw her..walked out of the hospital yesternight” She said.
“You must be mistaken” I said.
“I’m not, I saw her,she even put on a face cap” She said.
“You’re mistaken,she didn’t step out of the ward yesternight” I said and walked away but i turned and walked back to her.

“You’ve believed me right?” She said.
“No! I just want to tell you to always mind your business! Face what you’re here for” I said and smirked at her expression before walking away.

I got to Mia’s ward and pulled the door open.
She was sitting on the bed fully dressed, looks like she was waiting for me.

“Hey” I said and walked in.
She raised up her head and smiled on seeing me.
“Come dish out my breakfast. What did you made?” She asked.
“Just a simple meal, pancake and coffee” I said.
“Ohh, thanks” She smiled.

A nurse came in.

“Mr Darrel, Doc Mart wants to see you” She said.
“Okay,I’ll be right there” I said.
She nodded and walked out.

I glanced at Mia.

“I’m just quickly gonna dish out your breakfast and go meet Doc Mart”
“Okay” She said.
“You know doc Mart said maybe i stressed myself overnight” She said.
“Yeah”
“Yesternight,i was bored so i just walked from one corner of the ward to another. I think that caused the stress” She said.

“Really?” I asked dishing out her breakfast.
“Yeah” She said.
“You should have told me then” I said.
“I thought it wasn’t necessary”
“It is. ” I said and placed her breakfast in front of her.

“I’ll be back okay?”
“Okay” She smiled.

I walked out of the ward and headed to doc Mart’s office.
I knocked and was told to walk in.

“Hey doc” I said closing the door behind me.
“Have your seat, Darrel” He said.
“Are we gonna be having a long conversation?” I asked.
“Not really, but have your seat” He said and i did.

I faced him and waited for what he was about to say.

“Don’t you think that lady is hiding something from you” He said.
“No,i don’t think so” I said.
“Are you sure?”
“Of course. Why did you say that?” I asked.

“This is the second test result and it confirmed the stress she went through before now. I asked her but she denied going anywhere or doing anything stressful” He said and i smiled.
“Ohh…that, actually she told me she walked to and fro in the ward yesternight when she was bored” I said.

“She told you that?”
“Yeah”
“I guess she’s lieing. Walking to and fro can not form up this amount of stress, take a look at the result yourself. The stress percent is high compared to just walking to and fro” He said..

“She’s not lieing doc, she’s telling the truth, it happens that way at times” I said.
“Really?”
“Of course. If she really went out to stress herself,she would have told me”
“Alright then” He shrugged.

“How’s Mary and the kids?” I asked.
“They are all fine. She asked of you though” He said.
“Ohh…My greetings to her” I said.

Doc Mart’s wife is such a nice woman.
She took a liking to me immediately she saw me.. she took extra care of me by making meals and bringing them to me while i was here.

I’m a bit surprised she hasn’t come yet.
She visits her husband’s hospital frequently.

“And, about the scar on her arm…” Doc Mart said.
“Yeah,have you found anything?” I asked.
“She refused to allow me inspect it but mere looking at it,I’m ninety nine percent sure that scar is recent. It hasn’t even healed completely,the surface is still soft. A scar goes hard when it has been so long on one’s body” He said.

“I don’t want to believe she lied to me. Why don’t you inspect it. You know you just stared at it,you can’t be so sure” I said.
He smiled…”You seem to trust her so much”
“Yeah,i don’t see a reason why i shouldn’t” I said.
“Darrel, you’re a CIA agent sent here on a mission. You should see everyone as a suspect and not trust anyone at all”

“I know but these people have become my family. I have no choice but to trust them” I said..
He shrugged. “Fine then”
“Is that all?” I asked.
“She’ll be discharged tomorrow”
“Ohh… okay, thanks doc” I stood up..

He nodded and i walked out of his office.

That nurse told me she saw her going out in the night but i know she’s mistaken though.

I don’t think she’s hiding anything.
I’m only thinking that way cause of how private she is. She’s a private person and most private people gives people that feeling that they’re hiding something.

“Agent D.” I heard Nath called excitedly, jolting me out of my thought.
I turned and saw him walking towards me.

“Guess what?” He asked.
“You danced on the street?” I guessed and he rolled his eyes.

I laughed..” Okay, what?”

“Caroline is coming to see Mia” He said.
“Really? Carol will be coming here?”
“Yeah” He smiled.
“Today right?” I asked.
“Yeah,soon” He glanced at his wrist watch.

“Wow! I can’t wait to see her. Have you told Mia yet?” I asked.
“Nah! I’m about to” He said.
“Let’s go then”

“Caroline is coming?” Mia asked in smiles.
“Yeah she is, she’ll be here soon” Nath said happily.
“Wow. Honestly i can’t wait” She smiled and my heart fluttered.

“You told her about me?” Mia asked.
“Yeah,i always told her about you a lot and she has always wanted to meet you. This morning,she asked of you and i told her of the situation. ” Nath said.
“I should go then,since she’s coming to see Mia alone” I said, wearing a fake frown.

“You think she’s coming to see Mia alone? Nah! She also wants to see the handsome CIA agent transferred from California” Nath said.
“Of course,every lady longs to see me. It’s not so easy to be this handsome” I said proudly and they both laughed.

“And is that why you’re this dressed today?” I teased Nath.
“Of course, my love deserves more than this” He grinned.
“You look good though” I said.
“Thanks” He said.
“You look cute” Mia smiled.
“Oh..my, you’ll make me blush” Nath said and they both laughed.

She just complimented Nath and yet she always find it hard to compliment me.

“You’re done with your breakfast already” I said to Mia and she nodded.
“It was delicious” She said.

“Really?” Nath smiled.
“Yeah… Darrel is now a good cook” Mia winked and i felt like touching the cloud.
“Is there still more?” Nath asked .
“Yeah, i brought for us too” I said.
“Mine, please” He said.
“Dish it out yourself” I said and he eagerly did.

I smiled and shook my head before turning to Mia.

“Doc Mart said you’ll be discharged tomorrow”
“Okay. Is that all he told you?” She asked.
“Hmm… Yeah” I said.
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah, why did you ask?”
“Well…you took quite long” She said.

“Oh..my, agent D. are you sure you made this?” Nath asked, interrupting our conversation.
“Nah! The house ghost made it” I said.
“Whatever, that can’t stop me from eating it” He said.

“I should better dish out mine,you’re capable of eating everything within seconds” I said and picked a plate.

Nath quickly rushed to pick the brown one i was eyeing.
“Drop that one,it’s for me” I said
“But i took it first” He said.
“I made it so i have the right to choose anyone i want. Hand it over” I said.

“I took it first!” Nath whined.

“I made it!” Darrel snarled.

I grinned as i watched the both of them.

Darrel’s hair flung back and forth while Nath eyes remained widen.

Why do i feel like that doc told Darrel something.
He definitely did and I’m concerned cause Darrel refused to tell me what it is.

Well…i can’t wait to get out of here already.

Nath’s ringtone stopped every movement.
“She’s here, she’s at the reception” Nath said excitedly jumping out of the chair.
“Really? Go bring her in” I said but he already rushed out of the ward.

Darrel chuckled lightly eating the last pancake,he gulped it down with his coffee and started packing up the dishes.
I couldn’t avert my gaze from him.

“Is there something on my face?” He asked without even turning to me.
My cheeks flushed in embarrassment and i switched my gaze to the wall clock.

“I love staring at you too cause you’re the most beautiful lady I’ve ever seen” He said, making my heart pump twice.
“Thanks” I nearly smiled.
“I love staring at you too cause you’re handsome and also the best person I’ve ever met” I found myself saying.

“OMG! Did you just…?”
“Yeah” I smiled.
“Thanks Mia” He smiled happily.

The door opened and Nath walked in.
I noticed he was putting on a cute sunglass.

A lady walked in after him and i was amazed,she’s beautiful and simply dressed.
One wouldn’t know she’s the daughter of one of the billionaires in New York.

She’s putting on the same sunglass as Nath but she was wearing hers over her blonde hair.
It looks good on them both.

She smiled that i confirmed her perfect dentition.
I saw her picture on Nath’s phone but she looks more beautiful here.

“Hi everyone” She said cheerfully.
Nice voice though.

Darrel stood on his feet and stretched out his hand.

“Nah! I’m gonna hug you” She said and gave him a hug, leaving me surprised, Darrel too.
Nath smiled, adjusting his sunglass.

Wow!

“I’m Darrel Holden” Darrel said after they disengaged from the hug.
“Of course i know and I’ll rate your looks 100” She said.
“Ohh… thanks” Darrel smiled.

“Mia” She said turning to me, she quickly walked over to give me a hug too.

She smells nice.

“I’m so sorry about what happened to you. I hope you’re getting better now?” She asked.
“Yeah thanks, I’m fine now” I smiled.
“Thank goodness. I was so worried. Mind me, you look like a goddess. You both suit each other” She said pointing to Darrel and i.

Huh?
I glanced at Darrel and he was pressing his lips together.
Do we really suit each other?
Nah!

I laughed to wave off the tension in the room.

“Here, i bought this for you” She said stretching a paper bag to me.
“Wow, thanks so much” I said, collecting it.
I peered into it and smiled.

She bought flowers and ‘get well soon’ card alongside some other items.
“Thanks so much Carol” I stood up and gave her a tight hug.
“It’s fine mia. Sit,i don’t want you stressing yourself” She said.
“Thank you” I said again before sitting down.

“Okay,I’m just gonna introduce myself even though it’s not necessary. I’m Caroline Walker, Nath’s lover” She smiled.
“Nice to meet you Carol” Darrel said.
“Same here, agent D.” She said funnily and we chuckled.
“Nath told you that?” Darrel asked and she nodded.
“He calls you agent D. That’s what I’ll be calling you too” She said.
“You can call me Darrel”
“Nah! I’ll go by agent D. You deserve some respect” She said and Darrel smiled, obviously thrilled.

“Thanks for coming to check on me Carol even though I’m not close to you at all.” I said.
She smiled. “You’re close to Nathaniel,so you’re close to me too. I love getting closer to anyone my baby likes” She said and Nath grinned.

“Moreover, you’re a nice person and you’re more than what Nath described.”
“It’s so nice meeting a down to earth person like you” I said.
“Wow! Nice meeting you too Mia. Can we be friends?” She asked.

I don’t have friends and I’ve always turned down the offer but i can’t do that to Carol.

“Of course, that will be lovely” I said and she smiled.
“Have your seat” Darrel pulled a chair to her.
“Thanks agent D. ” She smiled and sat down.

“I will be leaving soon” She said.
“Ohh” I said sadly.
“I would love to stay longer but i have some business to attend to. I’m sorry” she said.
“It’s fine” I said.
“We can all go out for dinner when you’re discharged” She said.
“I will be discharged tomorrow” I said.
“Ohh…great! Guys, we’re fixing dinner for tomorrow” She said.
“Fine by me” Darrel said and we all turned to Nath.

“Of course I’m in” He smiled.
“Even if you’re not,I’m gonna drag you in. Guess what babe?” Carol said to Nath.
“What?” Nath asked.
“I’m halfway convincing dad” She said and i glanced at Darrel.
We exchanged looks before turning back to them.

“You’ve been halfway convincing him for months Carol” Nath said.
“Com’on Nathaniel,I’m serious this time” she said and Nath shrugged.

“I’m sorry for boring you guys with our discussion” Carol apologised.
“No,you didn’t” Darrel and i chorused.

She smiled and picked her purse.
“I’ll be leaving now” She stood up, glancing at her wrist watch.
“Thanks for coming” I said.
“You’re welcome” She pecked me on both cheeks and hugged Darrel.

“Bye, we’ll see tomorrow night” She said.
“Bye” I smiled and watched her walked out with Nath.

“I’m gonna see her off” Darrel said and i nodded.
He walked out after them and i sighed.

Shortly after,the door opened and i thought it was Darrel.
Doc Mart walked in,he closed the door behind him and faced me squarely.

“Tell me, what are you hiding?” He asked.
“Have you gone crazy!” I yelled.
“Darrel might be fooled but i definitely can’t be fooled. What are you hiding?” He asked.
“Get out” I fumed.

“There’s something behind your innocent face and I’ll make sure i dig it out” He threatened before walked.

Of course you’ll make sure you dig out your grave.

I picked my phone and quickly placed a call across boss.

I picked my phone to place a call across boss but stopped.
I don’t have the heart to get this man killed.

He should better stop prying or i will change my mind.

When did you become this merciful Mia!

I sighed and rested my back.

“Da-rrel st-op, yo-u can h-ave it” I said in between laughter as Darrel tickled me on the couch.

We were both trying to have the last slice of cake in the plate but i beat him to it and he asked me to drop it. I didn’t and he did what made me drop it.

He tickled me, making the cake drop off my hand.

My laughter didn’t stop even after he stopped.
He threw the cake in his mouth and i hit his back playfully.

“You’re a cheat! I took it first” I frowned.
“I’m sorry,you shouldn’t have made it this yummy” He said.
“Most gentlemen leave the last slice for the lady” I whined.
“I’m no gentleman babe, I’m hard as rock” He laughed.

“Don’t talk to me” I pouted, turning away.
“I’m sorry” He twisted my hair.
“Ouch! Darrel!” I yelled and he laughed.

It has been a month. I’ve gone on three different missions, Darrel do get the information and come, trying to capture me but i always escape after assassinating whomever im there to.

Killing no longer gives me that excitement, Darrel’s word pierces into my heart anytime i head out to kill.
I’ve started feeling guilty and sorry for the lives i take.
But, there’s nothing i can do,i just need to continue.

Interestingly, Darrel and i now act more than friends.
We’ve become so close than i want us to be.
We shouldn’t be this close but i can’t stop it.
Our closeness is really exciting.

I have feelings for him and i can’t deny it anymore.
Im here to kill him and i shouldn’t develop anything for him. I know right?
But I’m not in charge of my heart, if my feelings for Darrel can be stopped, I’ll gladly do anything to stop it.

Does he even feel anything for me?
Most time,i feel he does but he can’t right?
What if he does.
Darrel is here for a mission,not to start developing feelings.

“What’s wrong Mia?” Darrel asked bringing me back to the moment.
“I’ll go bake another cake for you” He said.
“No..no, it’s not the cake” I said.
“What it is then? We were playing just now and you went silent all of a sudden” He said.

“I was lost in thought” I said.
“About what?” He asked.
“Don’t let me bore you with it” I said.
“Bore me with it. I’m ready” He said.

I sighed.

We both turned when we heard knocks on the door.

“Come in Nath” Darrel said.

The door opened and Nath walked in.

“Agent D. Some Californians are here to see you” He said and my heart pounded against my chest.

That lady?
Darrel’s friend?

“Who?” Darrel asked, standing up.
“Your dad” Nath smiled and i felt a bit relieved.
“My dad?” Darrel asked in surprise.
“Yeah, Mr Holden. Should i allow him in?” Nath asked.
“Are you sure?” Darrel asked.
“Of course agent D. Come out with me ” Nath said.

Darrel sighed and walked out of the door.
“Are you serious Nath?” I asked.
“Yeah” He said.
“Wow!” I exclaimed and stood up.

I walked out of the door with Nath.
Truly, there is a man outside, standing beside a black Lamborghini with two hefty guys beside him.

Darrel’s father.

Now i know where Darrel got his looks from.
I watched Darrel talked to his dad.

“Don’t you think you should go say hi” Nath said.
“Huh?”
“Yeah,go say hi Mia” He said.
“I think they are having an important conversation” I said.
“I don’t think so” Nath said.

“Mia” I heard Darrel call.
“Huh?” I said nervously.
“Come” He said and i walked to him.
His father is obviously a wealthy man.
Wealth smells deeply all over him.

“Hi sir” I bowed.
“Hello dear” He said,his voice deep and rich.
I was a bit reluctant to look him in the face.
“You never told me you now have a lover, she’s the reason you refused to come pay a visit to California right?”

“Dad,she’s not my girlfriend. She’s my housekeeper and has become my friend” Darrel said.
“Really? She’s your housekeeper? She doesn’t look like one. She’s far beautiful than that” Mr Holden said.

“Thanks sir” I said.
“Your name?” He asked.
“Mia Cunnane” I responded.
“You’re a citizen of new York right?” He asked.
“No,I’m a Californian” I said.
“Really?” He asked.
“Yes sir” I said.
“Where exactly in California?” He asked.

“Enough of the questions Dad. Come in” Darrel said.
“I thought you weren’t gonna invite me in” He said.
“You appeared surprisingly and i had to deal with the shock first. ” Darrel said.
“You’re not happy to see me. I should go back” his father turned but Darrel quickly stopped him.

“Com’on Dad. I’m happy to see you but you just started talking about me going back to California when I’ve not even accomplished what I’m here for” Darrel said.
“It’s a month and three weeks Darrel and you haven’t achieved a thing! Drop this goddamn mission and come back to take over my companies”

I wish Darrel will do just that!
But no!
He’s a dickhead!

“Dad! You know once i bite,i don’t let go. Come in and take a rest” he said.

This time,you’ve bite more than what you can chew. It’s better to let go Darrel!

“Okay then,i already know the son i gave birth, you never concede to anything i say”
“That aside papa, i missed you so much” Darrel smiled, hugging his dad.
His dad smiled too and patted his back.

It was a loving moment and i almost wished for a father like Darrel’s.
I blinked back tears and shifted back a bit.

“Let’s go in” Darrel said.
“Are you really not dating her?” I heard his father whispered to him.
“I’m not Dad. I swear” Darrel said.
“We’ll have more discussion on that” He said.

They both started walking to the front porch,the two bodyguards following them.
Darrel turned and gave the bodyguards a puzzled look.

“What? You wanna follow him in?” He asked and they both nodded.
“Must you follow him everywhere he goes! Even on your guard,I’m damn sure my dad is not safe, two kicks on your faces,i bet you’ll go down instantly so why follow him around like a puppy” Darrel said.

“Hey Darrel! I employed them and they should do what they’re employed for” He said.
“Including following you into my own house, like I’m gonna kidnap you?”
“Regardless of whomever,they must do what they’re paid for so shut up! And gently tell them to stay back”

I thought they just hugged now?
Woah!

“Dad!” Darrel whined.
“Do what i said”
“Okay, you both should stay back and stop fo..” Darrel was saying but stopped when he earned a glare from his dad.
“I’m sorry Dad” He said and opened the door.

The bodyguards stayed back and i walked in after Darrel and his dad.

“What would you like to take sir?” I asked after he settled down on the couch.
He smiled “Anything will do” He said and i nodded.
“Juice or water?” I asked.
“Water” He said.
“Do you mind having some doughnuts alongside with it,that would sustain you till food is ready” I said.
“Of course, bring it on” He said.

I nodded and cleared the plate on the table .
I started walking towards the kitchen thinking of the sumptuous meal to prepare for our special visitor.

I smiled as a thought popped into my head.

“Wow! Can i have more?” Mr Holden asked.
“Of course sir” I smiled and gladly dished out more for him.

We were seated at the dining eating the special delicacy i made.
I served the bodyguards and Nath his too.

“How come you never prepared this. It’s unfair” Darrel said and i laughed.
“It’s a special delicacy,if i cook it regularly, it’ll be worthless. My mum taught me this when i was sixteen.” I said.
“Really?” Mr Holden asked.
“Yes, It has more advanced method this days but i applied the traditional method i was taught” i said proudly.

“I must say, you’re a very good cook. I’m not someone to eat outside my home and even ask for more. Coupled with the fact that you’re a beauty, you’re a good cook too . You impress me deeply” Mr Holden said, bringing a smile to my face.
“Thank you sir” I said.

“It’s not delicious” Darrel rolled his eyes and i laughed.
“Take a look at your plate D. ” I said and he did.
“Really? There’s nothing in there anymore. Did i ate it?” He asked.
“Nah! I did” I chuckled.

“I’m still pissed at you for not making me taste this meal before my dad’s arrival” He said.
“I’m sorry D. Do you want more?” I asked.
“I don’t but my stomach do” He twitched his nose and i laughed.

“What’s really the relationship between you too?” Mr Holden asked.
“Friends, Dad! Friends!” Darrel said.
“Ohh…fine. but you two stay in this house alone?” He asked.
“With the gatekeeper too” Darrel said.
“No,i mean you both stay in here alone? The gatekeeper has his own abode”
“Yeah” Darrel said reluctantly.

“Wow!” He smiled, glancing from Darrel to me.
My cheeks grew hot and i picked my glass cup of water.
I gulped it down my throat.

“Mia and i have not done anything Dad,if that’s what you’re thinking” Darrel said.
“Not even a kiss?” Mr Holden asked and my cheeks flushed immediately.

Darrel cleared his throat…”Dad,what exactly are you here for?”
“It’s fine if you’re trying to change the topic dear son. I actually came down to New York for a business” He said.
“How did you know my home address?” D. asked.
“Your CIA leader at California gave told me” He said.
“Ohh”

“How far have you gone with this case?” Mr Holden asked.
“Far enough dad” Darrel said.
“I hope you’ve not gotten hurt?” He asked.
“No Dad”
“What’s that little scar on your forehead?”
“It has been there before i came down to New York” Darrel lied.

“You know you’re the only one i have left,i will send you back to New York if i get to know you’re hurt. Nothing is gonna stop me from doing that”
“I will not get hurt Dad” Darrel said.

Seeing how much his father cherish him nearly brought tears to my eyes.
Knowing I’m gonna kill him soon broke my heart.

Can i bare to do this to Darrel and his father?
I can’t!

Oh..no!
Emotions aside, i will!

Mr Holden,your son is not gonna get hurt but get killed.
