‘Remember the girl’s code; see and do not tell.’ Eve hissed with a pathetic face. ‘I also remember the code, which said no snatching of another’s partner.’ Kate answered her. ‘I guess you could have made an exception for this one besides I told you I was going to the house that day, and you could have dropped a hint.’
Kate was so surprised she was so calm, talking to the betrayal she called a friend.” ‘How was I going to do that when you really wanted to move in with him when i told you several times to take your time. That was a hint enough Kate.’
‘Therefore, you just came to my office to apportion blames on our failed friendship or my failed love. In fact, get out of my office.’ Kate said and she just sat there staring at her.
Then she finally spoke up. ‘To think I just came here to invite a very good friend to my wedding. It seemed like she is still holding a grudge against the wrong person.’
Kate looked on with an angry grimace.
‘Annette was right; I should not have come here in the first place.’ She dropped what seemed like an invitation card on her desk and walked out.
Kate slumped in her chair, thinking if she did the right thing, throwing her out of the office.
She went out for lunch later with Drake, where they discussed Eve’s presence in her office the previous week. He could not help but just stared at her throughout the lunch.
Drake did not say much and Kate wondered if he even listened to her at all. She decided to talk to her mum, about Eve’s wedding.
Kate always had a soft spot for her friends. Until the three decided to betray her, but they had plans, where they took a whole vacation to plan how their weddings were going to be the talk of town, because it was going to be the three at the same time.
‘But what do I get now; they are moving on without me, should I cry over this again.’ Her Mum wiped her face with the back of her hand telling her to find a way and forgive them including the bitch herself.
“Matilda.” Kate whispered quietly.
She told her mom that would not be possible, and then her dad walked in.

Obviously in a good mood earlier but her Mum quickly stood up, as if she was afraid of him. He just walked pass them to his room. Kate looked at his shadow then back at her mum.
‘Mum are you sure you both are okay, has he been beating you.’
‘No my daughter, your father isn’t like that, he has anger issues but has never laid a hand on me.’
‘How do you even cope with him in this house, I can’t stand him but I’m still here because I want to be sure you are fine.’
‘Is that why you haven’t moved out yet?’
‘Yes, because I’m so sure you are not telling me the truth here, I have eyes you know.’
‘Kate, your dad and i are fine.’
‘I see what you are going through mom; I mean dad has never been nice to you ever since I started growing up. Moreover, how could you love a man like that?’
‘Come here my daughter.’
She took me in her arms like i was still a kid.
‘There are things you will never understand.’ Catherine told her daughter quietly.
Kate ended up taking her out for a movie that evening which Catherine kept saying she was too old for. But Kate was determined however to find out what those two were hiding from her.
They got home with Wilson furious why Catherine was not home early. Kate was surprised her mom just said sorry and went inside. She felt the hurt burning inside her and could do little to make everything go away.
Kate had a job of her own, which her mom made sure she inherited. She was deep in thought when her phone rang in her bedside drawer which she had no idea when she kept it there.
She picked up and it was Drake.
‘Sweetheart, longtime! What do you say about boys hang out Saturday 7:00pm, the usual joint.’
Kate agreed and they talked for a while before she drifted to bed, thinking about having a long chat with her dad soon.
She felt he shouldn’t keep shutting them all out for twenty-two years. Since Kate was five, he was never around that much. Her Mum was the one who kept running tiredly every day until she got house cleaners.
