ACRIMONY

Episode 8

Nelson went to check up on his wife in her room and discovered she was already fast asleep.

He quickly left the room. He went and sat on a chair on their veranda. He then picked up his phone and called Joe his friend.

“My wife has just been released. Come over to the house. We have a lot to talk about.”

A few minutes later, Joe arrived at Nelson’s house.

He was so excited about the news of her release. He wanted to go inside and see her but Nelson stopped him.

“Wait, she is sleeping.”

“Oh that’s good, she needs it.”

“Come and have a seat here,” showing him one extra seat on the veranda.

“So were the police able to arrest the abductors.”

“My friend, they did more than that.”

He then explained to Joe how the Police showed him those behind the incident and Uju’s involvement.

Joe shouted in amazement.

“This is unbelievable. So this is how she chose to leave this world because of her selfishness. See someone that I helped secure a job.”

“My problem now is that I’m feeling guilty.”

“Guilty how? Are you the one who shot her? I don’t see any issue here. She wasn’t d!e in your office. Didn’t she tell you she was at the hospital looking after her mother and you should look for someone else to replace her? My guy forget about her.”

“What if my wife asks who she was.”

“Cook up any story and tell her. If you try to be truthful, your explanation may put you in more problems. If I were you I’ll seal my mouth.”

“Okay.”

They switched topics and later on Joe told Nelson that he would be back later to see his wife. He then left.

The police got some phone numbers from the phone they got from Uju’s pocket and were able to get Uju’s mother. They invited her to the station.

A few minutes later, Uju’s mother and one of Uju’s uncles arrived at the police station.

The police told them all that happened and showed them Uju’s body.

Her mother wailed uncontrollably.

They felt disappointed.

Later, Uju’s body was deposited in the morgue.

A few days later, Nelson’s wife had fully recovered from the trauma.

Her husband got back from work one evening and they were both in the living room discussing.

“Honey, I’ve been wanting to ask this question since I was rescued from my abductors.”

“What’s the question?”

“Do you know that girl that was shôt?”

“I don’t know her from anywhere.”

“She said something about me taking what rightfully belongs to her.”

“Really,” Nelson thought for some time.

“Which thing that rightfully belongs to her? Do you know her from anywhere?”

“No.”

“I don’t know her either. You know how people behave in this country. Unfortunately, she didn’t live to tell whatever was taken away from her.”

“But we need to thread with caution, I wish I had known what she meant.”

“How would you know, I don’t want you to bother yourself about this. This is someone that wanted you dèad. I don’t believe she has other accomplices. Whatever it meant, she has dîed with it. Please let’s talk about something else.”

“Hmm, okay.”

Nelson was able to convince his wife that he knew nothing about Uju and she never brought up the topic again.

Nelson brought this upon himself by allowing Uju to work for him.

When you are married, it’s better not to be in close proximity with your former lover especially when you don’t have control over your emotions. This is because you both can reignite old feelings and emotions which may lead to other severe consequences.

An infuriated ex-lover can pour his or her frustrations on his or her ex-partner’s family. You can imagine having an enemy you are not even aware of.

THE END…
