ACRIMONY

Episode 7.

A few minutes later, the DPO called Nelson to inform him that they were about to leave for the operation.

“We have the information we need already, you will hear from us soon.”

“Thank you, sir, I’m waiting.”

It was on a Saturday, Nelson didn’t go to work.

He was at home feeling nervous. He couldn’t do anything but restlessly walk about his living room.

His sister was in her room crying and praying that God would bring back her aunt in a safe condition.

At the abductors’ hideout, the three men were patiently waiting for their madam.

In no time, she arrived.

She was dressed in a black T-shirt and black combat trousers with matching boots. She was wearing a facemask.

She exchanged pleasantries with the men.

“Madam you wan suffer us with this job, since how many days now,” one of the men complained.

“I wan make she suffer before she go kpai.”

“You for tell us now, we for don do am since.”

“No, I wan make she d!e by my hand.”

“Okay.”

She collected a pîstol gûn from one of the men and went closely to where Nelson’s wife was seated on the floor.

She untied the cloth they used to cover her eyes and pulled her own facemask.

“Please don’t hurt me,” Nelson’s wife pleaded.

“I want you to see my face because you will not live to see me anymore.”

“Please I don’t know who you are. What did I do to you?”

“You took what rightfully belongs to me, and as I can’t have it, you too can not!”

“Please I don’t know what you are talking about. Please what did I take from you?”

She then pulled the gûn and pointed it at her head.

“Please don’t kîll me!!. Pleaseee!!…”

Suddenly there were gunshots from the entrance of the uncompleted building and the lady pointing the gun fell.

The police arrived in time.

Immediately the abductors saw what happened, they scampered for safety while shooting sporadically in self-defence.

The police fired on them as they took to their heels.

One escaped and the other two sustained different degrees of bûllet wounds.

The Police handcuffed them and took them to their open van and made them sit.

They went back and checked the lady that was shót and discovered she had stopped breathing.

They carried the lady’s body into their open van where the other men were.

One of the officers went and untied Nelson’s wife’s hands and legs. She was exhausted.

She was helped out of the uncompleted building to a safer place within the environment.

The Police then called Nelson to come over to the scene, they sent him the location of the place.

In no time, Nelson arrived.

He was so happy to see his wife. He rushed and hugged her passionately. His wife was just crying. She couldn’t say a word. Nelson helped her into his car and gave her water to drink. He was still with his wife when one of the officers called him to come.

“Mr Nelson, come and see the people behind your wife’s abduction.”

He quickly went to where the police parked their van.

He saw the two men sitting and a lady lying down. He went closer because the lady’s face looked familiar.

“What!!!” he shouted.

“We didn’t want to kîll her but when we saw that she was about to pull the trigger on your wife, we didn’t have any option but to shoot her.

“Oh my God!”

The Police didn’t understand why he shouted but they cared less.

Nelson wasn’t himself.

“How come? I thought she said she was looking after her mother who was in the hospital. So they were all lies. Why kidnap my wife? See where she has ended now. What did ever do to her?” Nelson queried in his mind.

He went back to where he parked his car and drove off.

The police blared their siren as they left with the casualties.

When they got home. Nelson’s wife was given a warm welcome. She carried her son and kissed his forehead.

“I’ve missed you so much.”

“I miss you too mummy.”

She was given food to eat

Afterwards, she went to her room to freshen up and rest.
