THE WISHING WELL SEASON 2 EP 8 by Nathaniel Anuma (Bright Daniel)
The night grew weary and scary but the two students surged forward into the den of the wishing well. Kiana never left Anderson’s shirt in the scary forest. A torchlight which Anderson took from Nancy’s room helped them to have a clear view of the parth of their footsteps. The chirping sound of crickets was the only thing heard but sooner did a flowing river captured their ear drums which indicated that their destination was near.
“Hurry” Anderson whispered as he followed the direction of the river. Of course Kiana followed with her hands, gripping the base of the young man’s shirt like a troublesome wife, holding her husband to give her money for food. Before they stepped into the very den of the wishing well, Kiana stopped, while Anderson shone the torchlight on her face as their voices began to whisper.
“What’s it, Ana?”
“You know I can’t follow you to the Well otherwise forced to make a wish which I don’t wanna do again.”
“Then you’d have to wait for me here”
“Are you crazy?” Kiana looked around. Even innocent trees seemed to be monsters in her eyes and in the darkness, staring at her as if to eat her up. “You can’t leave me all alone here!”
“Nothing gonna happen to you” Anderson forcefully handed the torchlight to her.
“You’re actually leaving me?” she looked around again. This time, making sure she flashed light to the innocent trees that looked like monsters in order to be sure of what they were. Before she could turn back to Anderson, he had left her all alone in the part of the dark scary forest. Therefore she exhaled, hoping to remain alive until he comes back.
However, Anderson had approached to the Well which seemed to be giving out light from beneaith. He hesitated when he saw it, wondering what was beneath the Well that generated the ray of light he could see on the surface. He looked around to see nothing but darkness except the arena where the Well was. Nevertheless, he surged forward, looked into the Well and made his wish even though the reflection of the light didn’t permit him to see the source.
Kiana’s heart nearly had a malfunction of the pulmonary vein when Anderson’s footsteps came from a distance. So she shone a torchlight on his face immediately. When she discovered it was him, she held her heart and began to stabilise her blood pressure with the aid of para-sympathetic nervous system. Anderson hesitated with a benighted look on when he drew closer.
“What?” Kiana shone the light on his face again.
“The well is different” he replied. “Light is coming from inside of it” he added.
“Fire?”
“Not fire, but something like an electrical source of light energy”
Both remained silent. When Kiana wanted to lead the way out, Anderson’s voice stopped her. “It seems like the Well is something more than what we think it is”
“I don’t care. Come on, let’s get out of here” Kiana grabbed his hand. Yet, he hesitated.
“Something tells me that Mr Chucks is inside that well” he looked back to the direction of the well. “I need to go inside the well”
“Hey, hey, look at me!” Kiana shone the torchlight again on his face. “We are leaving this place now!” she dragged him like a shepherd, dragging a stubborn sheep.

For the second time, rusty sound of Nancy’s door rushed into the ear of the two students when they arrived to see the dead body at the same position it was left. Both glanced at each other before Kiana read the time of the night from a wall clock: 2:15a.m. While Anderson picked up the letter given to him by Nancy from the floor. There were two plastic chairs opposite the bed where they rested not only their butts but also their legs, watching the beautiful corpse coz even at death, Nancy was still looking very beautiful. The transparent pyjamas that showed her breasts and pant became an addendum to the beauty. To break the silent, Kiana said, “What do we do now? Call ambulance?”
Anderson shook his head. “No, her corpse will remain here”
“For how long?”
He glanced at her without replying which generated another tranquillity.
“Anderson,” Kiana began. “I can see the way you look at her. Your feelings for her can easily be seen from your eyes” she swallowed hard while the young man listened with his eyes on the corpse. “Anderson, I may not know your wish at the Well but I believe it worth it”
He remained silent.
Kiana glanced at him. “Nobody knows your first wish at the Well till date. Maybe you wanna tell me before I join Nancy and Juel”
Anderson glanced at her. Yet said nothing.
“My love for Juel grows each day. He has really shown me that some men are different.” She paused to fight tears that had circulated in her eyes. “I guess you don’t know how hard it is to die double without Juel aware of it”
The last statement got Anderson, so he looked at her saying, “Are you in any way indirectly saying that Juel isn’t aware that you’re pregnant for him?”
She nodded her head. At that point in time, the tears finally began to pour like a drizzling rain.
Anderson exhaled. “Do you really think Juel is dead?” he broke the silence.
“I don’t know what to think, Anderson” she began to cry. The young man brought her closer to his chest where she wept bitterly. He consoled and encouraged her that everything would be find.

THE NEXT MORNING
The faintly intoxicating odour of burning grass filtered into his sleep. At first he rejected it. It wasn’t true. But the odour persisted, growing stronger. Finally, he opened his eyes and began to cough like a green horn in weed smoking. He looked around the small hut he found himself to see nothing but a mat where he had been lying on. The door of the hut wasn’t locked which was a medium through which the smoke entered even through a small round window opposite him. He stood up from the mat to find his body aching severely like one who had been under a rock. He limped out of the hut to see a man who was actually burning the grass. He was old enough to be his father. He also looked around the external environment to see another small hut with nobody else. Suddenly, he saw the man coming towards him.
“Thank God you’re awake, dude” the man said sarcastically, walking into the other hut.
“My name is Juel and who are you and where is this place?” he limped a few steps forward.
The man came out from the hut with a bottle of water which he opened his mouth and allow it to satisfy his thirst. He swallowed hard at the last part that flushed down his throat like water in a toilet powl. He looked at him. “Good to have you, Juel. I’m Mr Clinton” he cleaned his mouth from dropplet water.
“Let me guess, Prisca’s father”
“Exactly”
Juel limped to him in a way both stared at each other. “How did you manage to get us out of the broken well?”
“It doesn’t matter. What matters now is that you’re alive”
“Your daughter planned to kill us”
Anger could be detected from Mr Clinton’s voice. “When you almost have her hung to death like a common criminal!?”
“She caused it!” Juel shrieked.
“I don’t care!”
Both became quiet. After some times, Mr Clinton’s voice mellowed. “You guys had my daughter disfigured thereby subduing her to severe pains. Therefore you must remain with us here until she gets well”
Juel directed his eyes into the hut through the entrance that was opened to see Prisca lying on a mat. Almost all part of her body was tied with bandages. He limped inside the hut, looked at her and came out. “She’s hurt pretty bad, but i need to go see my friends”
“Like you don’t understand me, young man” Mr Clinton’s stepped aside from him. “Staying here until she recovers isn’t an option to you. You’ll be the one to provide her traditional medications, show her all the love she needs until you marry her. That’s what I mean by you staying here” he began to walk out.
“What?” Juel became not only surprise but also confused. He directed his eyes to Prisca again..

On the other hand, Nancy suddenly woke up from dead to see Anderson and Kiana sleeping on the floor. First, she didn’t understand why Kiana left the bed to sleep with him on the floor which made her a bit jealous, not knowing that she had been lying dead throughout the night. Nevertheless, she stepped down from the bed, having a charming beauty of a marine goddess. She walked to Kiana, bent down and tapped her arm. “Ana?”
Kiana stretched up to see her then screamed!! She wanted to run out of the lodge but stopped at the door.
“Ana, why are you screaming and running like you’ve seen a ghost?”
“Ah..ah..are you..you not a ghost?” She stammered.
“What are you talking about? It’s me!” she glanced at Anderson who was still lying on the floor. “And why did you leave the bed to sleep with Anderson on the floor?”
Kiana couldn’t talk. She gradually walked back to Nancy and touched her hand to be sure who she was seeing. She looked at her neck to see the mark of death gone.
“Why are you behaving like this?” Nancy was still inquisitive. She neglected her to wake Anderson up but found out that he wasn’t breathing again. She turned to Kiana. “Anderson is not breathing”
“What?” Kiana rushed him on the floor. “Anderson!!” she shook him vigorously. “Anderson!! Oh my God!” she looked at Nancy with tears in her eyes to see her shedding tears too.
“I don’t understand. Why will he die instead of me”
Kiana stood up. “You were dead throughout the night, Nancy!”
“Really?”
“Yes! and..and.. Anderson had to go to the wishing well… wait..” she paused with goose pimples. “Anderson actually made a wish for you to live again why he dies. Jehovah!” she exclaimed.
Nancy’s tears increased in confusion. “Why would Anderson do that? Why would he safe my life to kill his? Ana, why did you allow him to do that!! Oh God!” she tapped her feet on the floor like one being bitten by ants.
“He wouldn’t listen to me. He was so stubborn!” Kiana fell on the ground and started crying so hard.
Nancy met Anderson on floor, grabbed his shirt and shouted in a painful loud voice, ” Anderson!!!” the voice began to break and get low as she wept on his chest..
