VILLAGE MARKET (A Short Story) - Sire Prince jhay

VILLAGE MARKET – Sire Prince jhay

In my girlfriend’s village, it is a taboo to trade in the market square during the day, their market is only opened in the midnight

The most weird and shōcking part of it was that, the market is only meant for the elderly people In the village.

Anyone that is not up to 40 years of age are not allowed to go to the market square no matter what.

Once it is 11pm, all the traders, merchant, buyers and the villagers which all of them are over 40’s will start preparing to go to the market square to trade

It was so unbelievable and strange to me when I heard about it. I was extremely surprised and baffled. Ever since I heard about it, my mind became restless and unsettled

I happened to the kind of person that never believed in superstitions and I had never experienced any untill I got to my girlfriend’s village

I purposely travelled with my girlfriend to her village to visit her relatives and officially ask her hand in marriage but I began to withdraw myself when I heard about their superstitions

There was a time I intentionally stayed awake till 11pm and I noticed vannesa’s grandma was getting prepared to go the market square with her goods.

“Vannesa, it’s so unbelievable, how can it be prohibited for younger people to go to the market and besides, why must it be in the midnight ?” I sat up on the edge of the wooden sofa, turned to vannesa and asked

“Michael, we were all brought up to know all this things, so we have to obey and abide to all their rules, I had asked my grandma several times about it but she didn’t disclosed it to me, She said we will get to know when we clock 40 years” she responded

“Hmmmm” I heaved a deep breath and I began to ruminate about it, I folded my hand and buried my head to the ground

“Hope no problem Michael” she asked me out of curiosity

“Don’t you think it’s abnormal?, I mean this midnight market of a thing is”

“Shhhhhshh michael stop” Vannesa shot me up with one of her right finger on my lip “according to my grandma, no one have the right to question their authority” vannesa continued

I pretended as if I agreed to what she said but deep inside me, I wasn’t satisfied. I decided to wait for vannesa to sleep so that I could get up and go to the market

Few moments later, vannesa slept off and I sneakily get up, put on my shirt and started heading to the village market
