Paulina’s demise got thrown at Daniel by the villagers, while heading to her house in the evening, daniel showed less concern about her untimely death.

Because he had already achieved what he had been longing to, the very first day he meet her.

Daniel forgot Paulina after her death, some years later, he graduates from Benin university and later went to serve in a prestigious law firm.

However, his blissful union with his childhood friend, Deborah who he had intended to marry right from primary school, now a lawyer same as him.

Daniel’s wedding day dawned with the promise of a new beginning.

The church was adorned with lilies, and the sun painted the stained glass windows with hues of flamboyance.

Deborah, his new bride glided down the aisle in ivory lace beaming a wild smile at daniel, for she had been waiting for this beautiful moment of marital vow.

Daniel clasped her trembling hand with a glee on his face, standing at the altar, trembling in his tailored suit.

But as the priest began, a scent wafted through the church a scent that froze hearts and curdled joy. Daniel’s eyes widened.

They were about to exchange vows when a foul of stench odour emanate from Daniels body.

The smell resembling a dead body.

Deborah faltered, her eyes wide. The guests shifted, unease rippling like a breeze. The scent intensified, wrapping around Daniel like a shroud.

He glanced at the exit, the congregation covered their noses, trying to flee from the unbearable smell.

Chairs scraped, heels clicked, and the church emptied, leaving Daniel alone with a mysterious curse.

“Deborah”. he whispered, “I don’t understand, why’s everybody runing?.” he asked with his mouth ajar.

She backed away, her veil fluttered.

“What is this?” Her voice trembled. “Why do you smell like…like a dead body?”.

Daniel squeezed his face in a state of dilemma, while Deborah run swiftly with the rest of the congregation.

The hex dragged daniel to imams and native healers, but to no avail, instead, he got scammed by many.

Despite his efforts to mask the odour inflicted on him with expensive fragrance, but to no avail.

Trying to cure his curse from the unknown, he went to a white Garment church in which they chanted prayers.

Sprinkled holy water, but the scent persisted. “Sleep beside her grave,” the prophet said. “Only then will the curse lift”.

The prophet transpired what had caused the odour, stating paulina’s isn’t no ordinary girl, whoever in any way had intimacy with her must sleep beside her grave for eternity, even without being dead.

He must find her graveyard and spend his whole night beside her grave to reduce the curse he had inflicted on himself.

Because the stench was connected to Paulina, whom he had forgotten so easily after her untimely death.

Daniel burst into tears, realizing what play boy had caused him while he was still in school.

“People will think am crazy “. he yelled “am not yet dead, why should I sleep beside a corpse!”.

“This servers as a lesson to playboys, who think they can Scot free after such evil act”.

And so, each night, Daniel stole away to the cemetery. The moon bore witness as he lay beside Paulina’s tombstone.

“Why?” he asked the stars. “Why this punishment?”

And so, he did. The villagers gossiped about the groom who courted the dead in their village.

Daniel’s life became a dance between two worlds. living while dead at heart.

His cries filled the cemetery every night while he lay beside Paulina’s grave, enduring what the fate of a play boy had prepared for him.
