Mama I wan tell you something she said in pidgin I will want you to sit down and no vex sey I dey bring the matter again. Balo said I know you already know what I want to say she said teary .Balo Balo Balo how many times do I call you , must you send me to the early grave , where do you want me to get money to send you to school she said angrily and wanted to stand up but Balo couldn’t let the opportunity slide, mama I can go to school free of charge someone want to pay for everything she said slowly . And who is that person ? where did you meet him from or hope it’s not what I am thinking of Alake said .Mama no vex I ,l ,l ,Balo was stammering I go…..she stammered. Talk now I no dey tie your tongue where you go and wetin you do Alake asked impatiently in pidgin . I go church today so one man, I mean the pastor say dey don they look for young people wey dey go send go school free of charge I swear na true the pastor say make i bring you come on Sunday Balo said shaking. Alake sat down calmly and looked at Balo eyes can you repeat what you siad again I no understand she said in pidgin Balo repeated the information again.
Alake screamed and shouted chineke o ,Jesu which church be that that church? she asked the one wey dey down the road Balo said . Tor God don butter your bread be that Balo I don dey think your school matter since but I just no know how I go help you she said in pidgin abeg no vex say I dey always shout na problem plenty Alake said in pidgin. Mama can we go on Sunday I mean to church if you don’t want to attend the church service you fit come late, Alake held her see this girl me come late I go attend everything from beginning to the end and anything they ask me to do so that you go start school I go do my pikin she said in pidgin. They both hugged We are flying to Nairobi today the scholarship offered to your daughter was to study in one of the best schools in east africa kenya Nairobi and not just that the scholarship board is offering each participant parents $200 monthly as a gift for supporting their vision of having street children off the inner most part of Lagos off the street. Alake couldn’t believe her eyes it looks as if she was hit by a truck she touched her daughter and kelvin and said we still dey Nigeria so, they both laughed mama na God, our story don change.
She held unto Balo’s hands I didn’t know it’s was going to be like this they both started to cry . The priest offered her the money in cash and asked that Balo be brought to church early as 6am so they could head to the airport on time he said She agreed to comply with his instructions. Alake couldn’t believe her eyes and ears she still taught it was a dream, but she knew it wasn’t a dream for her two children are not sleeping and it’s still day light . She held them to herself as they sat on the molue bus and Alake told them she was going to prepare a special meal for them infact they were going to eat chicken every one will get a big share she said, not bones this time kelvin added , yes ooo Alake said We will pay that landlord too all the money we are owing him too she said and I will go to school too kelvin said yes too Alake said the money plenty very well I sit down for toilet count am she whispered into their ears and closed kelvin mouth from screaming.
Mama guess what I just got a job at the one of the best hospital in Kenya you wouldn’t believe it mama God has answered our prayers . Want about that thing you said you want to do house man help me complete am Alake she said in pidgin houseman shipI don finish mama, na so the thing dey fast she said na so sharp sharp you done finish school Balo replied . How papa dey Balo asked he is fine o Your papa is just enjoying himself now no more house rent matter we are in our own house now and guess what we supply people fish plenty plenty now instead of that small thing we were doing before she said .
Thank God Balo said. There is one story I didn’t tell you I just keep remembering it let me just tell you now Alake said remember that time we no get money I almost sell one of my kidney so that we go clear our debt and pay your school fees you and kelvin own Alake said teary, I swear, na my friend Margret link me to one man you still remember her she asked in pidgin yes I still remember that woman mama Balo screamed , I swear thank God you quick tell me about that pastor own seriously na so I for die or live a short life. Alake said . Thank you so much for rescuing us from poverty .I really happy any time I think of how your determination and passion to be a doctor help change our lives forever .Alake said.
Mama make we thank God. .. I will call you back later in the evening and keep praying for me to succeed here she said. Alake said she will. Balo strolled down to the school canteen she was famished she sat for a while just to view the city from where she was sitting it was a beautiful sight indeed what if I invite kelvin and mama here Nairobi they have never been on the plan before . The waiter came over to pick her order I will love some chicken broth with some few slice of bread and some a glass of red wine she said. You will get your order soon he said. A young man in an Africa attire walked in she stared at him for a while he looks so handsome she taught as she try to pretend not to notice him . He walked towards her and asked if he could keep her company and she couldn’t resist his offer . My name is Charles I am her on a business trip and I am a Nigerian she smiled I am Balo Adamu I am Yoruba I am a Nigerian too . What if we go to my lounge together I am sure you will enjoy every bit of it he said . I just came here for lunch .
I already made my order she said don’t worry I will pay for whatever you order he said. They quickly ate their meal and left the restaurant together. In the evening, she called her mom , mama guess what I met someone today I think he is the one she said smiling what do you mean he is the one just tell me what you are feeling Alake said I mean he loves me and I love everything about him , he is a Christian, born again , very well mannered, and you might be having a wedding soon she said smiled Amen oo let it be so Charles will visit you when he arrives Nigeria next week mummy . I am so happy look at us, how we were before and now imagine mummy I am getting married soon mummy Balo said Alake said don’t be too fast you know young men of this days Alake said Mama this one I know he is the one just like the way I knew where to get my miracle so many years ago and now look at how change our life is they both laughed Abi Alake said.
The end Epilogue Alake lived to be one of the most successful business woman in Lagos while Balo is currently in turkey working as a medical doctor with her husband Charles as a missionary Kelvin is a renowned film director in Nigeria. Adamu now support his wife and they live happily in Lagos.
