Tope rang the door bell. Sade had told her to come over to her house for some important business. What exactly the business was, she wouldn’t say. Since she couldn’t leave her son alone in the house, she brought him along. Sade opened the door. ‘Great! It’s good you’re here.’ She grinned ‘What is the important business?’ Tope blurted out.

‘Come in first.’ Sade pulled her friend in. ‘Baby boy! How are you, Wale?: Sade carried him. ‘I am fine! And I am not a baby!’ He grinned. Tope face-palmed herself. So typical of her son to be always dramatic. Sade laughed. They came in and she saw Wale sitting on a chair. Sade hadn’t informed her that he was around. ‘Hi, Wale.’ She greeted him shyly. Ever since their third date last week, she avoided him. He messed up her head way too much and she was overwhelmed.

‘I’m coming! Let me get something from my room.’ Sade announced. Tope frowned. This isn’t Sade. She isn’t this perky. She is hiding something, she thought. Wale and her son were talking. ‘When are you going to ask her, dad?’ Her son said. Ask her what? She wondered. By the way, when did her son start calling him dad? ‘I don’t know man. I’m scared.’ Wale replied. Does he realize he’s talking to a five-year old? Okay, maybe he’s way smarter than his age. But still… ‘Just ask her.’ The next thing she saw was Wale on one knee in front of her with a ring. ‘I… Em…’ ‘Be confident, man’ Her son said loudly to him.

‘Will you marry me?’ The two Wale’s watched her, expectantly awaiting her answer. Her son got tired of waiting. He rolled his eyes exactly like Sade does, took the ring and put it on his mum’s finger. ‘There! Can we now eat? I’m hungry!’ He announced Everyone, including Sade, Mark and Femi, who were watching and waiting expectantly on the stairs, laughed. Wale didn’t move though. ‘Why are you still kneeling?’ Tope asked. ‘You haven’t given me your word.’ He said ‘Yes. Yes I will.’ Wale was elated. He spun her round till she was almost dizzy. He drew her close till their nose were almost touching.

‘No PDA! please! Sade yelled as she rushed to cover Femi and Wale’s eyes. Tope blushed. Wale kissed her on her forehead instead. Tope had just one more thing to clear from her mind. ‘When you told me you were in love with during our last date, I didn’t get to tell you how I felt. I know you do know I feel about you. But you deserve to hear it too. I love you.’ She whispered to him. He hugged her with a huge grin on his face.

‘Dad!’ Her son shouted. We’re hungry and we’re waiting for you!’ Femi said. They came to the dining table and sat. ‘Before we eat, let us pray for our wonderful family.’ Mark said. They bowed their heads as Mark led them in prayer. ‘Amen!’ They chorused. They ate lunch together, one happy family, bonded with love.
