‘Get down from that chair!’ Tope screamed again at her five-year old. Wale, her son, has been giving her a tough time which made her not to fully concentrate on her workout. She needed to get back to shape. But with this kid, she wondered if it was possible. Her phone rang. ‘Hello’ she said into the phone. ‘Hey Tope. It’s Sade.’ ‘Oh. Sade how are you?’ ‘I’m fine. I need your help urgently.’ ‘With?’ ‘Please could you help me babysit Femi tonight? Your son and mine are friends anyway. This won’t…’ ‘Wait, slow down. Babysit who? Tonight?my hair is practically screaming SOS, my house not thoroughly cleaned, I need sleep badly and able to achieve none cos of this child of mine. And now, you want to add yours? Just kill me. I want to die.’

She groaned. ‘Please. Just for tonight. I’m settling things with my husband tonight… Maybe our marriage is going to be saved. Help me. I have no one else to turn to for help.’ ‘Oh, so Mark is now ready to settle things? That’s great. You still need to make him pay for all he did to you. Call your brother over. Let him pass the night at your house and keep your son company.’ ‘Wale is busy. He said he has a big issue to attend to tonight. I told you, you’re my last resort.’ ‘And what do I get in return if I do babysit your son?’ ‘Do you remember that red gown we saw at the boutique last week?’ ‘Yes. You’re getting it for me and getting my hair done.’ ‘Deal.’ Sade said, rolling her eyes.

‘Don’t roll your eye at me woman’ Sade laughed. ‘You know me too well.’ ‘You owe me gist too o. So you’re going to tell me everything that happens tonight. Ah! And in case anything happen… Use protection. You and your son don’t want another child yet. I’ve said my own.’ ‘Crazy girl’ ‘I love you too. Bye.’ Tope sat down thinking about the problem she has put herself in. It is only because Sade was her best friend that is why she agreed to help.
She was glad that her friend and her husband are trying to rebuild their sour marriage. She looked at Wale who was currently climbing the bookshelf trying to play superman. ‘Abeg, I can’t shout. Mi o le wa Ku. Hm’ she said to herself and left her child. She stood up and went to the kitchen to fix an early dinner so she could prepare for her babysitting job. Just as she entered the kitchen she heard Wale’s cry. Her best guess was he had fallen. Nothing serious. She knew Wale’s different cry sounds.
This one was ‘I need attention’ cry. She shook her head. If she doesn’t prepare food soon, it would soon become ‘I’m starving’ cry.she turned on the gas and began to prepare dinner.
