May We Be Guided – Glow Ville
You meet a young man in his Thirties and ask him when he is planning to own his house. He likely tells you that there is still a lot of life ahead. No rush.
In his forties, you ask the same question, and he tells you that there is so much family responsibility to cater for. So, that is of secondary priority.
In his fifties, he realizes he is close to retirement, and then starts hoping he can gather enough money. But his taste may be bigger than his money, so he either begins to scale down, and settle for a small cottage or he totally gives up on the dream.
At 60, he can’t continue to pay rent. So he has to return to his village or depend on his children to pay his rent as part of their responsibilities to him.

Owning a piece of earth should be every man’s goal, not just for the sake of the investment value, but for the sake of shelter; an essential necessity that you shouldn’t have to pay for, all your life.
In your active years, it’s fine to pay rent to a another man who has sweated to build his house. But as you pay rent, you need to keep your sights on when you won’t have to pay anymore, and become the receiver.
People say it’s very costly to build in Nigeria, with the rate of inflation and all. Yes, but people are still building. You don’t need to save up huge amount before you can start. There are good real estate companies that offer you the convenience and flexibility of paying in little installments.
Take advantage. Own a land.Once that is sorted, building a house can then be incremental. It can then become a project you consciously save for.
But when you don’t have a land, you may not actively think of building a house.
So this morning, I beseech the young men and women reading this. Invest your money in the future. Put it in something tangible, and you can relax when others are still hustling.
In my opinion, the best time to start is now; just start, no matter how little.
May we be guided.
