THE EVIL TEDDY Episode 2 – The Mystery Man
Lilley was overjoyed over her newest addition, she tried to put the Teddy into her toy shelf ,the size of the bear was so enormous that it couldn’t fit in.
“What should I call you ? Marvin? uhhhn that’s not cool , Eddie ? uhmm maybe Teddy would be fine .” Lilley asked rhetorically.
“You can call me Eddie.” The bear said , Lilley was thrown off balance . “You talk ?” She asked , she stared at the lifeless inanimate fluffy doll, she laughed at her stupidity.
”My imagination is playing one on me .” She giggled . “Okay I’ll call you Eddie, so Eddie you cannot fit into the shelf , let me keep you on the bed with Bestie.” She raised the over sized bear and dropped it on her bed , near the headboard.
Bestie was her first doll her mother got for her , she would often tell Bestie of all her frustration, how no body in her class wanted to play with , but she felt Eddie would soon take her place , she loved her new Teddy .
There was a soft knock on her door , it was the house keeper . “Come in ?” Lilley waited to see who it was .Agnes stepped into Lilley’s pink world. “Lilley your mum is waiting for you at the dinning room .” Martha said glaring angrily at Lilley, she picked Eddie from the bed and flung it to the ground .
“I am not hungry , please can you tell mum that I am still full , I don’t want to eat.” Lilley said to Martha , she rolled her eyes at Lilley .
“If I slap you , your teeth will fly to Gwagawalada , who is your messenger ! Common get up let me arrange this room , spoilt brat!”Martha flung Eddie on the floor .
“Why did you throw Eddie on the ground , I’ll tell my mummy .” Lilley cried . “Tell her , I’ll also tell her that you kissed Benjamin.” Martha counter threatened , she knew she couldn’t report to her mum the house keeper would make good her threat , she used a subtle approach.
“But you know Eddie is expensive, you can’t throw him like that!” Lilley cried .”I don’t care if they bought it one million naira , get out!”Martha pushed Lilley towards the door , she sneaked by her , and picked Eddie up and placed the doll on her bed ,Martha picked it and threw it to the white tiled floor , Eddie rolled its black plastic eyes toward , it glared at Martha with anger and disdain , but it remained on its back .
Lilley ran downstairs , and joined her parents in the dinning room , they were having late a dinner of Nigerian Party Jollof rice , barbecued and lime seasoned whole turkey , lobsters, fried fish , and mushroom, the large ebony brown table , held so much food the small family couldn’t finish half . The chandelier hanging above, on the concrete ceiling , poured down a golden white ray , that brightened the massive dinning room , and gave it an opulent plush look of a five star restaurant.
“Michael can you please drop your pad , why are you using your pad on the dinning table ?” Jessica quarreled, her husband like an obedient son dropped his pad . They said the grace over their meal . Jessica dished the food into the flat ceramic plates .
“Mum I can’t finish this food , it’s too much .” Lilley complained. “You have to finish it , some children are out there looking for food to eat , you’re here playing with food , finish up that food .” Jessica snapped .
“But mummy you know ,I don’t like the slimy cream and vegetables?” She cried . “Please Lilley don’t give me hard time , just eat and go to your room .” Jessica told her daughter.
“Daddy? Daddy ?” Lilley called with a innocent puppy eyes . “What Lilley?” He raised his head up from his plate .
“Daddy this food is too much , I can’t finish it ?” Lilley cried .
“The food is sweet , chef Francis and John did magic on this sumptuous intercontinental dish.” Michael said to his daughter. Lilley resigned to her fate , she began scoop the food into her mouth, when her mum was not looking she loaded the food into the pocket of her jean trousers . Jessica was so happy to see Lilley finish her food , she wondered how the girl survived , she barely ate any food.
“Mum am done with my food ,can I go back to my room ? I’ve have an assignment to complete.” Lilley lied. “Good girl go up to your room and finish with your homework. Nanny Paula is coming to bath you soon .” Jessica said to her daughter.
“Mum I can take my bath by myself .” She yelled as she ran up the stairs to the first floor . When she got to her room she was appalled by the amount of trash she saw on the ground .
“Jesus Martha what have you done ?” She complained to herself . Her toys lay Scattered on the white floor , over twenty of her most precious dolls and toys .
She was relieved to see Eddie on the bed , where she had initially dropped it .”Oh Eddie you’re on the bed ?” She smiled as she embraced the oversized doll. “I love you Eddie.” Eddie put it’s big hands lightly around Lilley ,a sign of reciprocated love ,she didn’t feel the love .
Bestie was lying on the ground , Lilley picked her up and placed it on the bed . Bestie was a big black Barbie girl doll,she loved it ,because her mum said it looked like her . She arranged her toys and dolls into her pink shelf .
Martha had not actually thrown the dolls and toys around the house ,when she had finished arranging she dragged the giant stuffed toy into the shelf, it wasn’t his size so she shoved the oversized doll into the shelf ,squeezing the air out of it .
Eddie got pissed , it climbed out of the shelf , and grabbed all the toys and tolls, it flung them on the ground , it walked to the bed , where Bestie was sleeping , it was about ripping off it’s head before Lilley barge into the room ,so it jumped on the bed and lay lifelessly.
“Eddie I want to tell you about my day in school, it was good from the beginning , I scored ninety three in our class quiz.” She said snuggling the big Teddy like a love partner . Eddie turned his head to Lilley , they lay together on the big wide bed .
“Well it became bad , I wished I had scored badly ,my scores made Shirley and Oma jealous , they said hurtful things to me , they said I am a witch that I ate up the babies in mummies womb , can you believe those girls were so mean ? saying hurtful things about me , I want a little brother or sister so I can fight and argue with them like Kassidy and her brothers fought ,to play with them.” She rambled to her inanimate companion.
“But I have you Eddie , I’ve Bestie she’s my best friend .” She introduced Eddie and Bestie , when she put Bestie next to Eddie ,it pushed the black Barbie off the bed.
“I wish I Had super powers Eddie I’d make Princess Shirley,she’s mean , and Oma to pay for saying unkind words to me.” Lilley said to her stuffed toy .
“They’ll pay.” Eddie said ,Lilley sharply turned to the Teddy, covered in surprise,the bear lay lifelessly on the bed, its placid eyes focused on the white roof above . “Did you just speak Eddie ? or am I going Crazy?” Lilley asked ,the Teddy remained silent .
Jessica was heading to her room, when she heard her daughter’s voice from her room, she opened Lilley’s door and caught her talking to her stuffed toy. “It’s getting late Lilley , put the Teddy in the shelf and go yo bed , you’re going to school tomorrow morning. It’s no longer Bestie , now its the Teddy , are you not getting too old for this?” Jessica asked , stepping into her daughter’s room , she carried the Teddy bear from her bed and put it in the shelf .
“Let’s pray .” She said , they had a short prayer , she turned off the light ,the pink room became black . “Baby go to bed .” She said before gently closing the door and left , she turned back to the room , and turned on her light . “Now go to bed , if you take up the Teddy I’ll return it to the shop tomorrow.” Jessica threatened her daughter, she closed her eyes and went to sleep .
When Jessica had gone to bed , the soft thud of Eddie’s soft paws landing on the ground made Lilley shift in bed , the heavy stuff bear climbed into Lilley’s bed and slept next to her ,after throwing Bestie the ground , it put it’s soft arms around Lilley, as she lay in bed sleeping.
