“Katy?” Darrel broke into a huge smile.
“Let her in” he said and Nath nodded before walking out.
“You know Katy right? My friend in California,the one i told you about” Darrel said excitedly.

I nodded slowly..

He stood up Immediately the door opened.
The lady walked in smiling and i must admit she looks pretty.
She looks exactly like the pictures i saw on Darrel’s phone, just that she’s more real now.

I watched as they both ran into each other’s arms screaming happily.
My eyes went to the luggage on the floor and my heart skipped a beat.

She’ll be staying here?

“I missed you” she said after they disengaged from the from the long hug.
“Me too. What an unexpected visit” Darrel said.
“Well..i couldn’t wait any longer, i wanted to see your face” She said, hugging Darrel again.

Our eyes met and a furious glint appeared in her eyes, it quickly disappeared that i almost thought i imagined it.

She tuck her hair behind her ears before turning her gaze back to Darrel.

“What’s with your luggage,do you wanna stay in New York for years” Darrel teased.
“Nah! I just wanna be with you for some weeks, I’ll be right here in this house” she said glancing at me.

What’s up with her?

“Katy,you know this is an official building” Darrel said.
“Yeah but it’s not restricted to another CIA agent ” She said.
“Fine then, you’re welcome here. I really miss you” Darrel smiled, helping her with her luggage.
“I missed you more, if i don’t. I won’t be here” She said.

“Come meet my housekeeper who already turn my friend” Darrel said leading her towards me.
I sighed and stood up.

“Hi” I said.
“Hello, your name?” She asked and i could sense the strictness in her voice.

Woah!

“Mia” I said.
“Your last name?” She asked.
“Cunnane”
“How come most of your information are hidden? where do you stay before working here? What was your former occupation? Do you have a family? I wanna know who you are” She said.
“Com’on Katy. I explained everything to you” Darrel said.
“Darrel,just let me do this” She said.

“You want me to answer all that?” I asked.
“Of course,you must” She said.
“Hey! Last time i checked,you’re a CIA agent in California and not in New York City so i don’t owe you any answer nor explanation okay?” I retorted and she stared at me menacingly.

She thought I’m a cool girl?
Hell no!

“How was your journey?” Darrel asked Katy, breaking the weird silence.
“Fine” She said,not removing her gaze from my face.
I stared back at her equally.

“Mia, please help Katy clean up a room” Darrel said.
“Darrel, i clean the rooms in this house everyday,she should just pick anyone” I said.
“She calls you Darrel?” Katy asked in obvious surprise.
“Yeah” Darrel answered.
“Just Darrel? You’re her boss!” She said.
“I told her to call me Darrel,she never wanted to” Darrel said.

“I should take you to your room, you need to freshen up and eat” Darrel said, leading Katy away.

I sighed and sat back on the couch.
She’s so mean.

I bet she has been trying to get informations about me before coming here.
Why must she know anything about me?

I hissed and picked the remote control.
I resumed the movie and continued from where we stopped.

“Mia,help me microwave the left over for Katy,she should have that before lunch is ready” Darrel said.
They were both coming back into the living room.
She’s changed into a comfortable looking t-shirt and shorts, her loosed hair is now packed into a ponytail.

“Okay” I said and stood up.
“Nah! Im gonna make a meal myself” She said.
“No Katy,you need to rest , you just arrived” Darrel said.
“Oh .. com’on, I’m not tired at all” She said.
“Okay . I missed your meals though” Darrel said.
“I bet you’ve never tasted any meal as delicious as mine” She said..
“Huh… Mia makes delicious meals too” He said and i smiled inwardly as her expression turned sour.

“Where’s the kitchen?” She asked.
“Over there” Darrel pointed to the direction of the kitchen.
“Won’t you join me?” She asked Darrel.
“You want me to?”
“Of course” She said.
“Okay” Darrel said, holding my gaze.

I switched my gaze from him and sat down.
They both walked into the kitchen while i nursed the little jealousy building up in me.

She’s definitely gonna divert Darrel’s attention to herself alone.

I picked the remote control to resume the movie but i flung it away,stood up and walked to the stairs.
I heard their chatters and laughter and i returned back to living room.

I’m not gonna leave the living room for her.
She met me here and i shouldn’t be the one to feel threatened by her presence.
I sat down on the couch and resumed the movie.

The aroma of the meal she was making stirred me from my slumber.
Ohh…i was sleeping already,i didn’t enjoy the movie as i did when Darrel was with me.

I sniffed in more aroma and admitted she’s indeed a good cook.
I wonder what she’s making.

Ohh…the movie is still playing.

I sat upright and stared at the wall clock.
It’s almost time for lunch.

I heard a knock on the door and knew it was Nath.
“Come in Nath” I said and the door opened.
He walked in, smiling.

He should have resumed one of Mr Walker’s company yesterday as the CEO but he insisted on being here till Darrel is also ready to go back to California.

“Why are you seated here when you’re making such a delicious meal with a nice aroma” He said.
“I’m not the one making it” I said.
“Huh?” His eyes widened.
“Agent D.?” He asked.
“No, Katy” I said.
“Really?”
“Yeah Nath” I said.
“Wow, I’m impressed but I’d love it more if you were the one making ” He said and i smiled.

“Nath,you there? Come grab your lunch” Darrel called from the dining room.
“Mia too” He added.
“Let’s go” Nath took my hand and we both walked to the dining.

Katy was dishing out the delicious looking meal.
Wow!
Nath swallowed hard beside me.

“This is yours” She stretched a covered plate to Nath who collected it eagerly.
“I didn’t call you” She said to me.
“Huh?” I asked.
“Your portion isn’t here” She said leaving me stunned.
“Katy!” Darrel said.
“Darrel,you know i made just little” She said.
“But it’ll be enough for everyone” Darrel said.

“Don’t bother Darrel, I’ll microwave the left over in the fridge” I said.
“You mean Mia is not gonna eat from this lunch?” Nath asked and Katy nodded.
“Then I’m not eating too” Nath said and dropped the plate on the dining table, surprising everyone.

“Nath, com’on” I said.
“I’ll eat the leftover with you, serve me mine when you’re done microwaving it” He said and walked out of the dining room.
“Nath” I called after him.
“I have to be at my post” He said, opened the door and stepped out.

I glanced at Darrel and sighed before walking into the kitchen.
His face is expressionless.

I can’t believe that lady could behave this way!
She came here some hours ago and she already mixed up everything.

I shouldn’t even have expected to eat out of her meal, considering the way she treated me earlier.

Darrel said she’s a nice person,then why is she behaving this way.

I opened the fridge and brought out the leftover.
Nath should have just eaten that sumptuous-looking lunch. I know he really wanted it but he declined because of me.
I’m seriously moved by his actions.

I sat on the breakfast bar in the kitchen and started eating my lunch after i served Nath his.
I had passed the dining room and saw them eating.

“Mia, why are you eating here?” I heard Darrel asked.
I turned to see him standing by the kitchen door.
“It’s a little meal, i don’t need to go to the dining room” I said.
“Little meal or not, you’ve always eaten at the dining room” He said.
“Yeah but i wanna eat here today” I said.
“I’m sorry if you’re offended by the way Katy reacted to you. Trust me,she’s not like that. I guess it’s because she just arrived ” He said and i shrugged.

“Come with me to the dining room” He said and i was about declining but he quickly added ‘please’
“I’ll help you with your meal” he said and carried my meal.
“Should we walk down the street later in the day?” He asked and i nodded.

I’m glad he still wants to spend time with me even when she’s here.

We got to the dining and i sat down.
Darrel placed my meal in front of me, i continued eating refusing to look in Katy’s direction.

We all ate in silence.

I packed the stained dishes to the kitchen after everyone is done with lunch.
I started washing them in the sink.
I heard Katy telling Darrel about going to have a nap.

She really needs it.
I hope she’ll turn nice after she’s awake.

Darrel walked into the kitchen and started helping me with the dishes .
“Thank you” I smiled.

We wiped our hands on the napkin after we were done with the dishes.

“Should we go out for the walk now or when we’re done watching that movie?” Darrel asked as we both walked out of the kitchen.
“Let’s finish watching that movie, although,i already continued it without you” I said.
“Ow! You should have waited” He said.
“I’m sorry, i did not know when you’ll be done with Katy and i don’t want to be bored. ” I said.
“It’s fine” he smiled.

We laughed hard at the end of the funny kdrama.

“Geez! I knew that guy won’t stop being funny” Darrel said.
“He’s a crook,he even farted at the end” I laughed more.

“We should go out for a walk now” Darrel said.
“Okay” I said and repacked my hair.
I stood up and slide my feet into my footwear.

He took my hand and we both headed to the door.

“Where are you going to Darrel?” We heard Katy asked.
We both turned to see her walking down the stairs with a laptop in hand.

“I wanna take a walk down the street with Mia” Darrel said.
“Your housekeeper?” Katy asked.
“She’s not just my housekeeper,she‘s my friend” Darrel said tightening his hold on my hand.
“Ohh..fine then” Katy said.
“We’ll be back soon” Darrel said and we both walked out of the door.

“Do you want ice cream?” Darrel asked when we were approaching an ice cream shop.
“Of course” I smiled.

Our walk has been interesting so far, we kept talking and laughing about the movie we just finished watching.
I enjoy walking with Darrel,he’s so lively and fun.

We got to the ice cream shop and placed our order.
I requested for a chocolate flavor while Darrel chose a strawberry flavour.

We walked out of the shop after paying.
“Do you know chocolate flavor tastes better than strawberry” I said savouring the taste of my chocolate ice cream.
“Nah! Strawberry tastes better than chocolate. You need to taste it” Darrel said.
“Tch!” I rolled my eyes and he laughed.

“Strawberry is kinda childish but chocolate is for matured peoply like me” I teased.
“In your matured dream” Darrel said and i laughed.
“You know what? Just taste a bit out of this,i bet you’d throw that thing in your hand away” I said.
“I bet you’d thrash that chocolate ice cream once you taste this also” He said.

“Okay then” I said and raised my chocolate ice cream to his lips,he also placed his on my mouth and i thought i heard a click of camera shot but i shrugged it off.
Its just an imagination,i guess..

“Uggh! Tastes bitter!” Darrel spat after tasting my Ice cream
“Taste sour” I spat twice and we both laughed as we walked back home.

I was still chewing on my ice cream cone when we walked into the house.
We met Katy sitting in the living room obviously waiting for Darrel.

“Hey Katy” Darrel said.
“Darrel,how far have you gone with this case?” she asked and Darrel sighed.

“I can’t believe you go out to have ice cream while you still have a case unsolved” She said.
“I work hard on the case Katy, a little bit of fun is not bad” Darrel said.
“Really?”
“Yeah, i even have a office here” Darrel said.

“Good then, my main purpose is to come help you out on this mystery case, let’s go into your office” She said and stood up, closing her laptop.
“I’m glad you’re here,i really need to be done with this case as fast as possible. I have plans after this case” Darrel said and glanced at me.

Why do i feel the plan he has is about me?

“Good then, but I’m afraid we’ll take long in the office” Katy said.
“Why?” Darrel asked.
“We need to work hard on this case if you want to get done with it quickly” She said.
“Okay then”

“But first we’ll need to interrogate everyone in this house” She said.

What!

“We don’t need to do that Katy” Darrel said.
“We need to,cause everyone is a suspect” She said, deliberately focusing her gaze on me.

“Alright go ahead” Darrel said and my heart skipped a beat.
He’s allowing this thing to interrogate me!

“Okay” She smiled “Go get the gatekeeper. I’ll start with Mia” She said.
“First,show me to your office”
“Mia will. Mia show her to my office while i go get Nath” Darrel said and i nodded.

I walked to his office with Katy walking behind me.
If she provokes me with her questions I’m just gonna slap the hell out of her face.

I opened the door and stepped in.
“Here is his office” I said and was about to walk out.
“Okay, but where are you going to?” She asked, checking out the office.
“The living room” I answered.
“Nah! This is where we will be having the interrogation.”She said and went to sit on Darrel’s main chair.

She dropped her laptop and opened Darrel’s.
She powered it and i was surprised she knew his password, she typed it so fast.

Are they that close?

“Sit” She said pointing to a sit opposite hers.
Why is she acting like she owns this office and why the hell is she operating Darrel’s laptop like it’s hers.
I breathed out before going to sit where she asked me to.

“Damn! Darrel have not gotten anywhere with this case,what the hell is he thinking!” She said to herself.
She started checking out the files on the desk, shaking her head and muttering to herself.

The door opened and Darrel came in with Nath.

“Darrel,I’m disappointed with your progress so far. It’s just like you haven’t done anything” Katy said.
“I’m trying Katy” he said.
“You’re not trying enough!” She said.

Nath sat beside me while Darrel went to stand beside Katy.
“Just look, someone kept sending mail to you about this assassin whenever she has a mission. Don’t you know you should track down the mail. It’ll give you a clue” She said.
“The mail is blocked” Darrel said.
“We can unblock it! Darrel,you weren’t like this. What went wrong?” She asked and Darrel sighed.

She stood up and surprisingly she hugged him…
What the heck!
“We can do this okay?” She said to him and he nodded.

“Okay,let’s start with the interrogation” She said and sat down.
“You’ve not started yet?” Darrel asked.
“Yeah, i was waiting for you” she said and picked a pen. A notepad is already in front of her.

She faced me..” So, your name?”
“You know that already” I said.
“Do i need to remind you that this is an interrogation” She said.
“Mia Cunnane” I said and she scribbled it down.
“Where do you stay?”
“Here” I said.
“I mean,where you lived before resuming here” She said.

“Yetim street, block 4” I said.

Damn!
Does such street even exist?

“Do you stay with your parents? And do you have any siblings?” She asked.
“I don’t stay with my parents and yes i have an elder brother” I said.
“Okay, so are you’re a citizen of New York City?”
“No, I’m a Californian” I said.
“Really?”
“Yeah” I said.
“Your parents and sibling stay in California then?”
“Yeah”

“Your home address in California?” She asked and i searched for what to say.
If i should mention any fake address, she’ll definitely find out it’s fake.
“The thing is, i left California when i was a teen and my family already relocated to a new place which i don’t know the address yet” I said.
“Really? What’s the old home address then?”
“It has been long,i can’t remember it” I said.
“Ohh” She said tapping her finger on the desk.

She glanced at Darrel before glancing back at me.

“May i see the pictures of your families?” She asked.
“No, i do not have any of their pictures” I said.
“Really?, Their contact then” She said, pissing me off already.
“What do you need it for?” I asked.
“I need to confirm the authenticity of what you’re telling me” She said.
“Well..you can’t have their contact” I said.
“Why?” She asked.

“Can you move to the next question already? I have things to do!” I snapped.
“Ohh” She drawled before turning to Nath.

“Hey, you can leave. You’re not a female are you?” She said.
“Obviously I’m not. Why did you requested to see me then?” Nath asked.
“I’m sorry about that” She said.

Nath nodded before standing up .
He walked out of the door leaving us in strain silence.

Darrel cleared his throat and turned to Katy.
“Do you have more questions to ask her?” He asked Katy who shook her head.
“But do you mind me going through your things?”
“For what!” I hit the desk in anger, standing up in the process.
“Katy you can’t do that” Darrel said.
“Why?” She asked.

“You don’t have the right to go through my things even as the CIA agent that you’re . That’s invading of privacy, you should know the law better” I said.
“Ohh… okay you can leave then”
She said.
“Don’t you dare go through my things behind my back, if you do. I promise you you won’t find it funny” I snarled.

“You don’t have to get worked up over this” She said.
“I don’t have to get worked up over this? When you kept treating me like I’m the freaking assassin you’re here to capture?” I said.
“You might be” She said and i won’t deny that my heart raced in what seems like fear.
“What! I might be?” I asked.
“Yeah, every grown up lady in this city is a suspect” She said.
“Including you!”
“I’m a Californian” She smiled, irking me further.

“Darrel sit, let’s dig into this case” She said.
“You can leave” She added and i glanced at Darrel who gave me a pleading gaze.

I walked out of the office and hurried to my room.
I need to hide my costumes, that lady is a fucking smartass!
If she had tried this with me when i was still hot blooded,i bet she would have died overnight.

Ahhh!
I’m not in good terms with boss, i would have informed him of Katy.
Well…it’s better i don’t, cause he’s gonna order me to kill her immediately.

I wonder why she’s behaving that way towards me?
Does she know already that I’m the assassin?
Nah! She doesn’t or she would have ordered my arrest immediately.

I opened the door to my room and walked in.
I hope she had not gone through my things when i was out with Darrel.

I walked to the drawer my costumes were and it was still locked.

I need to start keeping it in the bathroom cabinet from now on.

She might be smart but not smarter than i am.

I wondered what they were doing in there as i passed by the door.
Why the hell did she have to come here!
Darrel would have been with me in the living room now,we would either be watching movie or chatting.
The moment she arrived,i knew she was gonna divert Darrel’s attention from me.

Well…thank God there’s Nath to talk to.

“Darrel,what do you mean by you don’t like the way I’m treating her?” I asked.
“Katy,i know you. You were never mean to anyone but why are you this way to mia?” He asked.
“You mean I’m treating her wrongly by interrogating her? I’m only trying to help you”
“No! But you’re a bit mean to her, you didn’t even gave her out of the lunch you prepared. You were never like that Katy” Darrel said.

“Thank goodness you know i was never like that and for me to act that way to a particular person,you should know she might not be who you think she is” I said.

Ever since i made a background check on Mia Cunnane,I’ve been restless.
There’s this strange thing about her that i can’t just place my finger on.

I should accept the fact that I’m not bit jealous of her.
She’s way prettier that i am and it looks like she caught Darrel’s attention already.
But i still insist on the fact that she’s not who we think she is.

She was trying to avoid some questions and i knew most of her answers weren’t genuine.
For someone who was trying to dodge answers,for someone who most of her information are hidden,for someone who couldn’t provide the pictures nor contact of her family. Then there must be something behind it and i promise to dig it out.

But first,i should concentrate on what brought me here.
I miss Darrel so much and yesternight i knew i might fall sick if i didn’t set my eyes on him today. I longed to feel the warmth of his perfect body.

I need to feel those succulent lips on mine.
I need him to love me back.
I need him to do all ive imagined him to do.
I’ve never loved a guy as i loved Darrel.
My world revolves around him alone.
I love him so much that sometimes,i wish i never loved him this much.

My feelings for him never decrease,it increases instead and I’m here to make him realise how much i love him.

But, seeing how he looks at his housekeeper is giving me some concern.
I hope it’s not what I’m thinking.
Normally,i know Darrel is a friendly person but he’s way too friendly to his housekeeper.
The way he steals glances at her and the way he brightens up whenever she’s beside him.

Well,they must have gotten along since they lived together for days.
Could they have done anything naughty?

Nah!
Darrel won’t do that.

“Katy” Darrel called, bringing me out of my thought.
“You see, Mia is a private person,i guess that’s the reason you might think she’s hiding something. Trust me, she’s pure” He said.
“Are you defending her?”
“No,I’m not” He said.
“Those questions i asked her,you should have done that before employing her” I said.
“Let’s keep that aside Katy and concentrate on the case” He said and i sighed.

“Okay”

We all sat round the dining table, eating the dinner i prepared.
I already served Nath his and i made sure i gave him a large portion tonight.
He impressed me in the afternoon.

“Delicious” Darrel said.
“Thanks” I smiled.
He smiled back at me and i felt butterflies.

Damn!
This guy has total control over my heart and soul.
He makes my heart move just with a glance.

“Darrel” Katy said.
I noticed she’s picking at her meal.
Well…she can starve,to hell i care!

“So, we need an IT genius for the blocked mail right?” She said.

Why’s she discussing it over dinner,I’m damn sure they would have discussed about it in the office.
Is she doing this to watch my reaction?
She must be joking then cause i won’t give any reaction to whatever she says.

“Yeah, there’s a guy in the police department. Tony,I’ll call him over tomorrow” Darrel said.

Yes!
Tony is one of us, he’s in the police force simply because of our team. boss actually sent him there to work as a cop to oversee the affairs and always get back to us and to always inform us before hand.

“No, i don’t want Tony to do the job, there’s another guy from California” Katy said.

“No, why do you want another person from California” Darrel asked.
“We shouldn’t trust New York citizens in this case, especially the cops. For them not to have captured the assassin all this years,that means one or two of them works for her.” She said and my heart beat faster.
“That’s my thought though” She added.

Damn!
How dare she think so correctly.
Does she know everything already?

“Well…Our cops aren’t corrupted” I said.
“I wasn’t talking to you” she said.
“Neither was i talking to you, you should see i was facing Darrel.” I said and she scoffed.

“Well,i don’t think so. Let’s just call Tony and stop bothering the other guy from California” Darrel said.

Good!

“Darrel,this is a tough case and you need to handle it toughly. What’s wrong with you? I know you go extra mile to solve cases. You are capable of solving a case within a month. It’s two months already, you’ve not done anything” She said.
Darrel sighed. “Okay,call the other guy then”

Damn!
The funny thing is,i don’t also know who sends my mission information to Darrel.
Could it be boss?

No.
I remember boss telling Robbie to fish out the unknown person.
Who could it be?
Could it be one of us?

“Darrel,you believe New York cops are corrupt?” I asked.
“Hey! You shouldn’t interfere,you’re nothing but a housekeeper” Katy spat.
“Katy!” Darrel warned.
“And you’re nothing but an ugly annoying bitch!” I yelled and stood up angrily.
“What!” She exclaimed. “Did you just call me ugly?”
“Deal with it” I said before stomping to my room.

“Mia” Darrel called after me but i didn’t stop nor answer.
I walked into my room and banged the door after me.

I fumed as i paced my room.. I swear,she should just thank her stars,that i don’t feel the urge to kill anymore.

“Mia” Darrel called walking into my room.
“What?” I asked with a frown.
“Com’on,you don’t have to get angry over what she said”
“That was so rude of her” I said..
“She’s only concerned about how we’re gonna get this case done” He said.
“Even at that, she shouldn’t be so rude”
“I’m sorry” He patted my shoulder.

“Darrel you didn’t do anything wrong, you’re not the one that pissed me off” I said.
“Yeah but I’m sorry on her behalf” He said.
“It’s fine, go meet her before she bursts into my room” I said and he laughed.
“What’s so funny?” I rolled my eyes and he laughed more.

I smiled as i watch him laugh.
I feel like hugging him tightly and kissing those wet lips.

He stopped laughing and stared hard at me.
“Wanna kiss?” He suddenly asked.
“Huh?”
“Wanna kiss?” He asked again, smiling.
I nodded shyly and he kissed me or rather we kissed.

His lips tasted heavenly like it always does.
The kiss was so intense that i didn’t even knew when i parted my lips widely.
Who would believe i will be kissing Darrel willingly and passionately.

“Darrel” we heard Katy call.

Huh!

I quickly disengaged myself from the kiss but Darrel pulled me back.

“Darrel stop!” I said.
“What?” He asked.
“She’s gonna see us” I said.
“And so? I was not planning to hide you” He said.
“Go out, she’s calling you” I said.
“Please” I added and he sighed..

He walked out of my room and i bolted the door.
I don’t know why I’m doing this?
Am i trying to hide what we feel for each other from Katy?
We’re not even dating yet.

How come this girl is giving me so much headache on her first day here.
I sat on the bed.

Well … I’ll just go freshen up for the night and sleep.

I stood up from the bed and walked to the wardrobe to bring out my nightwear.

“Hey, you’ve not washed the dishes” I heard Katy said outside the door.

Like seriously?

Well…that’s my job here.

“Okay” I said and closed my wardrobe.
I walked to the door and pulled it open.

“You should know you’ll wash the dishes after meal” Katy confronted me.
“I know” I said and walked out, shutting the door behind me.
“Then why are you in your room?”
“Hey! Don’t bother me okay?” I said and walked down the stairs ignoring her further talk.

I got downstairs and walked straight into the kitchen.
Geez!
“Darrel,stop. I’m gonna do the dishes” I said when i saw him already washing the dishes.
“Go back to your room” He said.
“Com’on D. It’s my work,you shouldn’t help me” I said.
“Says who?” He asked.
I sighed…”Okay, I’ll do the remaining dishes” I said.
“I’m done already” He said and i glanced at the sink.

He was rinsing the last piece of dish.

“Don’t help me again with my work, im getting paid for it” I said.
“And so? Aren’t you even supposed to thank me” He grinned and i rolled my eyes.
“Like i asked you to help me”
“Really? I’m not gonna help you again” He said.
“I’ll be glad” I smiled and he made to knock my head before i ran out of the kitchen laughing.

“Are you done with the dishes?” Katy asked, stopping my laughter halfway.
“Yeah” I said.
“So soon?” She asked.
“I helped her with it ” Darrel said behind me.
“What!” Katy exclaimed.
“What?” Darrel asked.

“You helped your housekeeper to wash dishes?”
“She’s my friend Katy” Darrel said.
“But…”
“Goodnight Darrel” i said cutting her short.
“Goodnight” He replied and i climbed the stairs to my room.

I sat on the bed and picked my phone.
I need to message Robbie.

? Darrel wants to find out the person sending the mails to him, tomorrow. I think you should do that before he does.

Next Morning

I started the chores immediately i finished brushing my teeth and rinsing my face.

I’m disturbed over the thought of that IT genius coming from California.
Robbie haven’t replied my message.

I walked down the stairs to continue my chores and i was surprised to see Katy in the living room,busy with her laptop.

What’s she doing up so early?

“Good morning” I said.
“Yeah” She answered without sparing me a glance.

I continued my chores,with my mind filled with different thought.
I really need to apologise to Boss.
I’ve offended him greatly.
But apologising to him means I’m ready to kill Darrel which I’m not.

I finished my chores and walked back to my room.
I had my bath and got dressed before going to make breakfast.

“How about the guy you talked about?” Darrel asked Katy over breakfast.
“I messaged him already,he should be here today. ” She said.
“Really?” Darrel asked.
“Yeah”
“Good then” He said.

“I discovered some new things that will help us with the case” She said and Darrel smiled.
“Thanks babe” He said and fondled her cheeks.

She’s even grinning.

How could Darrel fondle her palm while I’m here!
I deliberately shifted noisily in my seat to distract them.
They both glanced at me and i frowned hard at Darrel who chuckled.

I sat alone in the living room, planning to go join Nath outside once I’m done with the movie.

Darrel and Katy are in his office trying to solve the case they won’t be able to,even in years to come.

I heard the door open. I turned to see Nath walking in.

“Hey! Wanna join me?” I asked.

I heard the door open. I turned to see Nath walking in.

“Hey! Wanna join me?” I asked.
“Mia, you need to come see something” He said.
“What?” I asked.
“I’m so surprised” He said.
“About what?” I asked.
“Just come” He said walking to the door and i rushed after him anxiously.

“Nath,tell me what happened” I said as we got into the compound.
I found nothing.
“It’s not here in the compound” He said.
“Then where?”
“Just come with me” He said walking to the gate.

“Just give me a hint about what it is” I said.
“Be patient Mia” He said and unlocked the gate.
He walked out and i walked after him.

I didn’t even told Darrel I’ll be going out.
Well,he’s in the office with the so called Katy!

“Mia hurry” Nath said and i realized I’ve slowed down.
“Ohh” I sighed and hurried after him .

I wonder what he wants to show me.

“Do you wanna get some ice cream for me?” I asked when i saw him approaching the ice cream shop.
“Nah” He said.

Nath could be playing a prank on me.

He finally stopped walking when we got to the front of the ice cream shop.
“So… what?” I asked.
“You mean you’re not seeing anything?”
“What?” I asked, looking around but gasped when my gaze locked with something.

It’s a big poster board with Darrel and i picture boldly placed on it.
The picture of us feeding each other ice cream!

Oh.my.god!
I remember…
I remember hearing a camera shot that day.
How could i just ignore it?

The poster board was decorated in a way that has the shop name on it.
T. Ice cream shop.

Our picture boldly displayed, they are using our faces for this ice cream shop without informing us.

How could they!
They used our pictures without mutual agreement!
This is annoying.

Even with how pissed i am, i can’t deny that the picture is beautiful.
I mean very beautiful.
It was captured perfectly.

Within the few minutes that I’ve gotten here, i can’t count the amount of people that has admired the poster board and have gone into the shop because of it.

I sighed and glanced at Nath.

“What to do?” I asked and he shrugged.
“Should i just shred it off?”

“No, don’t. It’s beautiful. You also saw the amount of people that went in because of this picture. They are making huge sales because of it”

“But it’s not right to do this without mutual agreement” I said.
“Yeah, they did wrong in that part” He said.
“Well… Darrel needs to see this first” I said.
“Of course”

How is he gonna react, seeing his face displayed on this board?
Well…till he sees it.

“Let’s go” Nath said.

I hesitated before knocking on the office door twice.

“We would like not to be disturbed for now” Katy’s annoying voice rang through the door.
“I wanna see Darrel” I said.
“We’re busy” She said.
“Darrel” I called.
“I’m coming Mia” Darrel said and i sighed.
“But we’re busy here!” I heard Katy half yelled and i smiled.
“I’ll just quickly attend to her” Darrel said before opening the door.

“Hey” He smiled.
“You need to come with me to see something” I said.
“Ahhhh” He sighed.
“I understand you don’t have my time anymore but you need to see this” I said.

“Com’on, don’t talk that way. I still have your time but you know this case is a serious one which fully needs my devoted time. I can’t wait to be done with it so i can concentrate on you alone” He said and i found my cheek getting flushed.

If only the assassin wasn’t me.
I would have been damn happy!!

“Well…you need to come see this” I said.
“What?” He asked.
“Just come with me” I said.
“Okay,give me a minute” He said and walked back into his office.

I walked to the living room and waited for Darrel.
I would have actually given my consent if the owner of the shop had asked but going ahead without informing us is unruly.

“I’m ready” Darrel said behind me.

Few minutes later,we were both walking down the estate in silence.

“I’m sorry if Katy is giving you hard time,trust me she’s just so concerned about getting the case solved” Darrel spoke up.
“No, it’s fine. I understand” I smiled.
“Thanks for understanding” He said.

“So what exactly do you wanna show me?” He asked.
“I want you to see for yourself” I said.
“Okay” He said.

“You didn’t tell me we were coming to get ice cream” Darrel said while we were approaching the ice cream shop.
“That’s similar to what i also said when Nath brought me here”
“Nath brought you here? What’s going on?” Darrel asked, confused.

“Well…look at that” I said pointing to the poster board.
His eyes went wide when he saw it and i heard him cursed under his breath.
“Damn!”
His face grew furious as he barged into the shop.

Wow!

He went straight to the counter while i followed him.

“Where’s your manager?” He asked the lady scooping ice cream for customers.
“What is the problem sir?” She asked.
“I need to see your manager or do you want me to create a scene” Darrel threatened .

“Oh..no!” She said.
“They are the ones on the poster board” She whispered to the second lady.
“Geez!” The lady exclaimed.

She quickly punched some numbers into the landline on the table.

I watched the happy faces of people coming in and going out.
Some of them sitting to lick their ice cream.
It’s actually nice to know that most of the people came here because of our picture.

“Come with me” The lady said after dropping the call.
She started leading us towards a door.

“How could they use us to make sales without proper agreement” Darrel fumed.
“That’s exactly what I’m pissed about too” I said.

The lady knocked on the door and a masculine voice asked us to come in.

“You can go in, i already informed him of your presence” She said.
“Okay” Darrel said before pushing the door open.
We both walked in and i quietly closed the door behind us.

The office is so small and stuffy.
It’s not like most offices, it’s filled with ice cream flavours and various ingredients i can’t mention.
I’m actually impressed with how neat the office is .

Darrel cleared his throat and i turned back to face the man sitting on the chair.
He should be in his fifties, the fear in his eyes is so obvious.

“I’m so sorry” He said.
“I’ll remove the poster board now” he added, getting on his feet.
“You know it’s unruly to use people’s face for your shop without proper agreement right?” I asked and he nodded.
“Then why did you do it?” Darrel asked.

“You made us the face of your ice cream shop,the least you should have done is inform us. I can sue you for this” Darrel said.
“I’m so sorry, there wasn’t enough cash” He said.
“Enough cash?” I asked.

“Yeah, i know i should pay you guys for using your faces to make sales but this is a small shop and i don’t make much from this business not until recently that the sales have improved. All thanks to your faces” He said.
“The first thing you should have done is to inform us,what if we are private people that doesn’t want our faces out like that.” I said.

“I’m so sorry” The man pleaded.
“We weren’t even gonna charge you for it” Darrel said.
“Huh?” The man asked in surprise .
“Yeah,we don’t need the money for anything” Darrel said.
“Why did you do that when you know how wrong it is” I said.

“The last time i wanted to use someone’s face,she charged a huge sum of money that i couldn’t afford. That was why i thought it’s best not to inform you guys. I’m so sorry”

“Ohh” Darrel said, glancing at me.
“What do we do?” He asked i shrugged.
“You decide” I said.
“It’s fine, you’re forgiven” Darrel said and i nodded.

“Huh?…Thank you so much. I’m gonna shred off the poster board now” He said.
“No, don’t” I said.
“Just let it be, that’s obviously what’s making your sales improve. We’re not that cruel to order you to shred it off” Darrel said.

“You mean, i should continue using your faces without paying you guys?” He asked.
“Yeah” we chorused.
“Oh…my thanks so much” He said happily. “I’ve never met cute and kind couple like you guys”
“We’re n…” I was saying.
“Of course” Darrel interrupted me, pulling me closer.
I sighed and played along.

“Thanks once again”
“You’re welcome” Darrel said.
“So, we’re cool now” I said.
“Thank you so much. I never knew you were so kind” The Man smiled and bowed a little.

“But how did you capture that shot, it’s beautiful” Darrel said.
“I was actually walking out of the shop when i saw you two feeding each other ice cream. It was the perfect scene i needed so i quickly captured it” The Man smiled.

“Wow! You must be a photographer?” Darrel asked.
“Yes”
“That’s nice” I smiled.

“Well…I’m Mr Johnson” he introduced himself.
“I’m Darrel”
“I’m Mia”

“I was literally trembling when i got a call that you both are here. I thought you were gonna cause a scene and have me arrested” He said.
“No, we can’t do that. Though,what you did is worth it” Darrel said.

“We need to be on our way home” I said.
“Not yet,you deserve some ice cream” Mr Johnson said.
“Well,we refused cash but we’re not gonna refuse Ice cream right?” Darrel asked.
“Of course” I smiled.

“Chocolate flavor!” I said and chuckled at Darrel’s glare.

We both headed home with handful of ice cream.
I smiled thinking on how I’m gonna devour it at home.
I will eat some cookies along with it or should i bake fresh cupcakes?

?Strawberry flavour is the best,best best” Darrel sang, earning a frown and a hiss from me.

?Chocolate flavor is the best among besttttttt” I sang loudly ignoring the gazes of passerbys.

Darrel laughed and i almost hit him not until i realise,my hands are filled with cones of ice cream.

We walked into the living room and met Katy sitting, obviously fuming.

“Darrel! We were working on a case and you went to get ice cream!” She yelled like the bull she is.
“Katy chill. Listen to my explanation” Darrel said.

My eyes widened when my phone started ringing loudly in my pocket.
They should know they shouldn’t call me except i call them, boss gave that rule!

“Is that your phone?” Darrel asked.
“Yeah” I said, bringing it out slowly.

I already gave Nath one of the ice cream so my left hand is free.

“Come to think of it, ive never heard your phone ring” Darrel said.
“You’ve never heard her phone ring?” Katy asked and Darrel nodded.
“Yeah, her family doesn’t like to disturb her while she’s at work” He said.

“I will go take this call” I said and walked away, ignoring the piercing gaze of Katy.

My phone stopped ringing by the time i got to my room but it started ringing again immediately i sat on the bed.

Boss.

?Check your mail” his deep voice said.

?Hi Bo…” I was saying but he already disconnected the call.

I guess he’s still pissed at me.

I scrolled through my apps and clicked on my email.

Damn!
I have a mission tonight.

Name; Jude Thompson.
Home address; Lakeview street,block 5.
Profession; lawyer.
Time; 9pm.

Poor man.
He’ll probably be in his room not knowing he’s gonna be dead soon.
This is just so sad.

But what choice do i have, i just have to kill him.
I should better be extra careful now that that sneaky bitch is around.

I swear down, if she shows up,I’m gonna waste her life immediately.

Ahhhh!
My ice cream is melting already.

I dropped my phone and started licking it.
Hmm….great!

But i still can’t believe our faces are out in the street.
What if someone….
Boss will definitely not take it if he knows.
But there’s nothing i can do to the poor man, our picture is obviously what’s fetching him great sales.
I won’t be cruel to cut off his happiness.

I walked into the bathroom after i was done with my ice cream.
I rinsed my hands and mouth, dried it and returned back to my room.

The thought of going to kill tonight is not fine with me.
I don’t feel happy killing people anymore.
I feel bad instead.
Why should i be the only one to be sent on missions..

I sat down before laying on my back.

Everything is just so complicated right now.

Even if boss is to send another person to do the job,am definitely not gonna let it happen.
Darrel trusts me so much,i don’t know what’s gonna happen if he finds out I’m the assassin he’s toiling to apprehend.

I dread the day he’ll find out.

I pulled the blanket over my body.

‘its 4pm already’ I muttered glancing at the wall clock.

I can’t continue thinking about my complicated life.
I should sleep and forget everything for a while.

I closed my eyes,inhaled and exhaled deeply.
And just like i was in a mutual agreement with ‘sleep’ I started dozing off Immediately.

“You should sue that man” I said to Darrel after he explained everything that transpired.
“His explanation made me pity him. He’s a poor man struggling to make ends meet” Darrel said, opening the file in front of him.

He keeps getting more attractive.
He keeps occupying my heart.

“So you let him go with what he did?” I said.
“Yeah”
“Darrel,that man has your picture widely displayed in front of his cheap ice cream shop and you allowed that?”
“Ahhhh” He sighed. “It’s not my picture alone. Mia’s too and I’m glad we’re the reason he’s making more sales. Thats the only way we’re helping him. You know how much i love helping people” He said.

“You mean, Mia’s picture too is in it?” I asked, boiling deep within me.
“Yeah” He smiled. “The picture is beautiful”

I don’t like Mia for getting more of Darrel’s attention.
He seems to like her.
Plus,she’s so beautiful.

I accept the fact that I’m jealous and that’s the main reason i don’t like her but there’s another thing about her..
It’s something i can’t place my finger on.
She seems suspicious.

Darrel just said he has never heard her phone ring. The excuse he could give was her family doesn’t like disturbing her at work.

I don’t believe that.
Darrel is just so blinded by whatever it is.
I’m gonna investigate this lady myself.

“So what did you do while i was away?” Darrel asked.
“To the ice cream shop?” I asked and he nodded.
“Well… Eric called” I said.
“Ohh…my buddy” He smiled.
“He asked of you and promised to call later”
“Alright, let’s proceed then. Where did we stopped?” He asked.

“Hold on” I said when i saw a message notification popped up on the screen of his laptop.
“A message just entered?” He asked.
“Yeah” I said and clicked on it.

?I have another mission tonight on Lakeview street. 9pm. Figure out the block yourself. I dare you to meet me there.

“What!” I screamed.

“Mia,why did you do this?” Darrel asked with tears in his eyes.

“I’m sorry Darrel, i never meant to hurt you. I love you so much” I said, holding my blood stained cloth.

How come there’s no one around except Darrel and i, this place is damn silent and creepy,only the sound of wind was heard.

There’s a deep cut on Darrel’s left cheek.
I’m not feeling pains but my whole clothe is stained with blood.

“I love you” He said.
“Me too. Are you fine?” I asked and he nodded.
“I’m sorry i hurt you, i never intended to” I said.
“It’s fine but i have to leave now” He said.
“To where?” I asked.
“I don’t know” He said slowly getting on his feet.
“Darrel, please don’t leave me here” I cried, trying to get up but can’t.
“I’m not safe with you Mia” He said.
“You are. I promise i won’t hurt you again” I said.
“I’m sorry. Bye” He said.

My heart grieved as i watched him walk away.

“OMG!” I exclaimed opening my eyes.
I sat up on the bed and rubbed my face with my palm.

What sort of dream is that?
Oh…no!
It can’t be what’s gonna happen right?

Darrel,i promise i won’t hurt you. Please stay with me forever.

I glanced at the wall clock and gasped.
7:30pm!

Gosh!
I’ve not made dinner.

I pushed the blanket away and quickly got down from the bed.
I slipped my feet into my footwear before rushing out of my room.

The aroma I’m perceiving made me stop for a while.
Wow!

I descended the stairs and headed straight to the kitchen but i stopped at the dining table seeing the lush meal.

Oh…my!
Katy is undeniably a good cook.

“I was about coming to get you” Darrel said sitting.
“Ohh…I’m sorry,i never meant to sleep that long” I said.
“It’s completely fine. I’m glad you took a break tonight” He said.

Katy also sat, acting less concerned about my presence.

“Sit and dish out your meal” Darrel said and i glanced at Katy.

She made it,she might not want me to eat out of it.

“Have you served Nath his?” I asked.
“Yeah” Darrel answered.
I sat down and also dished out mine .

We all started eating in silence..

I walked into my room after washing the dishes.
I need to start getting ready.

I entered the bathroom where i now keep my costumes.
I dropped them on the bed and walked to the window.

My car is parked there already.

“Hmm” I sighed and started getting out of my clothes.

⚔️Katy⚔️

“Katy,you can’t come with me. You’re not officially signed as my assistant”
“I know Darrel but but please just take me along” I pleaded.

I’ve been restless since we received that message.
I’m sure if i go with Darrel tonight, we’ll capture that fucking assassin.

This is what I’ve been waiting for.

“No Katy, you can’t go with me. I’m sorry” He said.
“Darrel, please take me along” I said.
“Katy, i can’t”
“Okay then” I said, i knew he wasn’t gonna allow me go with him, i have other plans.

“So, remember our plan on how you’ll find out the exact house she wants to carry out her mission”
“Yes and I’ve asked for backup.” He said.
“Good”
“I should be on my way now, you know we have to be there before she arrives”
“Yeah, i wish you good luck” I said hugging him.

He hugged me back and i wish we never have to disengage from the hug.
My smile brightened as i sniffed in the fresh scent of his hair .

“Bye” He said disengaging from the hug .
“Bye”

I sighed softly as i watched him walk out of the door.
I’m gonna go after him.
I can’t stay home knowing my help will be needed out there.

I hurried to the window and peered out.
He’s driving out already, I’ll go pick up my pistol once he drives out completely.

“Good!” I exclaimed when he finally drove outta the compound.
I hurried up the stairs and was about entering my room when i thought of something.

Shouldn’t i atleast inform Mia.
We both can’t leave the house without informing her.
Even if i don’t like her, she deserves to know that we’re not in the house .
I’ll just tell her we’re going to get something.

I turned back and walked to her door.
“Mia” I called while Knocking.
I knocked again and again. No response.
Could she be in the bathroom?
I continued knocking till i was forced to open the door.

She’s not in her room, i think she’ll be in the bathroom.
“Hey, Darrel and i are going to get something” I said.

No response.
Well…she won’t wanna answer me.

But why will she leave her window widely opened and what’s that black thing on her bed?

I walked in fully and headed to her bed to examine whatever it is.
