“Mia” Darrel called.
“Huh?”
“I love you” He said and my heart struck.

I stopped dancing and found myself rooted to a spot, staring at Darrel.
Did.. he just said that?

He switched his gaze from my face and i managed to look at the direction he was gazing at.

I saw Mr Walker walking towards us .
I hid my disappointment when i realised he said that because of Mr Walker.

I pulled my hands slowly from his and stood back.
“Mr Walker,you leaving?” Darrel asked but he didn’t get a response.
Mr Walker walked past us to the door.

I sighed and made to return to go sit.
I should drink my stupid feelings away.
He doesn’t even love me,he only said that because of Mr Walker.

I don’t love him too, i only thought i love him.
I don’t!
I just have feelings for him cause of his looks right?
Yeah, that’s it!

“Mia” Darrel called,pulling me back.
“What?” I asked.
“I love you” He said and even though my heart pumped twice faster,i still looked around to confirm if Mr Walker or anyone is approaching but no!
I didn’t see anyone.

Mia, don’t get too excited.
He definitely said that because of someone.

I faced him and his eyes nearly melted me.
“I love you so much. I’m not saying this because of anyone and i didn’t said it earlier because of Mr Walker or anyone,i didn’t even knew he was approaching. I thought it was the best time to confess my feelings to you. It has been bottled inside me for long. Trust me,i don’t love you just because of your looks,i love you so much that I can’t place my finger on exactly what made me love you this much. I was sent here for a mission and i shouldn’t fall in love but i can’t help it. You made me fall helplessly in love with you. You don’t have to love me back, i just thought it’ll be nice to let you know” Darrel said, leaving me speechless with my heart pounding hard against my chest.

I gripped my dress tightly and tried not to scream in excitement.
I released the breath i didn’t even realized i was holding.

“I love you too Darrel..I’ve always loved you” I said when i finally got the strength to talk.
“Huh?” He asked.
“Yeah” I said.
He smiled before crushing his lips on mine.
I responded without hesitation..

We finally got to kiss each other in full awareness.

“Ohh..” We heard Mr Holden said.
We stopped kissing and I’m surprised i didn’t even feel shy to face him.
“Are you guys trying to make people believe my lie or…” He said winking at Darrel.

Darrel smiled and took my hand.
“Let’s go home” He said.
“Bye Dad” we chorused, walking to the door.

Darrel pushed me gently on the couch and placed his lips on mine.
I responded back hotly and i could swear the kiss awaken every cell in my body and for the first time in years i felt like having sex.

I placed my hands on his back and pressed his body on mine.
He placed his hands on my breast and i moaned urging him to continue.
He started fondling my breast and my moan deepened.

The kiss got more intense and hot.

Deep down i know what I’m doing is wrong but i can’t just help it.

“Mia” Darrel called.
Tears rushed to my eyes as i flee to my room.

I heard Darrel’s footsteps behind me.
“Don’t follow me, please” I said before opening the door to my room.

I walked in and bursted into tears.

I opened my eyes to see a bright morning.

I blinked severally and noticed my eyes ache a little.
I yawned and pulled back the strands of hair blocking my gaze.
I sat up on the bed.

Woah!
I’m still in my dinner gown and i don’t remember sleeping on the bed.
I slept on the floor after crying.

Did Darrel placed me on the bed?

I sighed, feeling bad about what happened last night?
I shouldn’t have pushed him that way but i was so angry at that moment .

I sniffed in a pleasant smell of coffee.

‘Huh?
Did it appeared here?’ I wondered when i saw a cup of creamy coffee on my bedside table.

Of course Darrel placed it here and why exactly is it looking hard to resist?
I shouldn’t drink his coffee cause im still angry at myself for pushing him away.

I blushed as i remembered when he confessed his feelings to me.
His voice was cool and romantic that even if one didn’t love him before,the person’s heart will switch to him immediately.

I picked the cup of steaming coffee and placed it gently on my lips before sipping it slowly..

“Hey,good morning” I heard and nearly spilled the coffee on my body.
I held my breath before finally gathering the courage to look at him.
Colours rushed to my cheeks as images of our kiss and romance came flooding in.

“Are you okay?” He asked.
“Yeah,and I’m sorry ab..” I was saying.
“No,it’s fine” He said and i nodded.
“Drink your coffee, i already made breakfast” He said before walking to the door.

Is he pissed at me?
He was not even smiling while talking to me.

“Darrel,are you angry?” I asked and he turned back to me.
“Yeah”
“I’m sorry” I said.
“No, I’m not angry at you. I’m angry at myself!” He said.
“Why?” I asked.
“I..i shouldn’t have tried to get down with you” He said.
“I wanted it too Darrel and i regret pushing you away. Don’t put the blame on yourself alone, if i hadn’t wanted it,i would have pushed you away from the very beginning” I said.

“Really? Why did you suddenly pushed me away then?” He asked walking back to me.
“I won’t like to talk about that now. I’ll open up to you soon” I said.
“Fine” He smiled and crouched in front of me.
He took my hands in his and i felt warm immediately.

“About what i said last night at the party,I’m serious about it” He said and my heart fluttered.
“I’m serious about what i said too” I said trying to keep his gaze but i couldn’t.
I’ve never felt this shy.

“I love you” He chuckled and kissed the tip of my nose.

Awwwn?

“You need to have your coffee,freshen up and come join me downstairs okay?” He said and i nodded.
He stood and smiled at me before walking out.

I grinned hard and hugged myself tightly.
I’ve never felt this happy?
Is this how love make one feel?

I sat in the living room with Darrel after having breakfast.
“You’ve learnt so much from me, i can’t believe you made that breakfast” I said.
“Yeah,I’m now a better chef ” He smiled.
“I won’t let you in the kitchen again whenever I’m preparing meals ” I teased.
“Ohh..you’re afraid I’ll become better than you,i bet you already feel threatened by the taste of my delicious breakfast”
“Hell no!” I laughed.

“Come here” he patted the space beside him.
I got up and sat beside him,he drew me close and made me rest my head on his shoulder.

“So,will you like to watch some movies?” He asked.
“Of course” I said.

“I know i should be working on my investigation but i prefer being here with you, i know that’s incompetent of me but i don’t mind,as long as I’m close to you” He said.
“Awwwn” I smiled and he kissed my hair.

If only you know that i also prefer to be yelled at by boss just to be here with you.

Mia,what the hell are you thinking?

Are we dating already?
He only confessed his feelings to me.

The door bursted open, startling me.
Nath rushed into the living room breathing heavily.
I thought something had gone wrong not until i saw the smile on his face.

“What?” Darrel asked.

“Caroline’s Dad just accepted me! He just talked to me over the phone and told me to go ahead with the plans i have for his daughter, he told me to resume as a CEO in one of his companies. I’m happyyyyy” Nath said breathlessly.

“OMG!” I exclaimed happily, pulling Nath into a hug.
“Congratulations buddy” Darrel smiled, winking at me.

“We did it!” We chorused and we both laughed at Nath’s confused face.

I packed my hair into a neat ponytail and slid my feet into my footwear, ready to walk down the street with Darrel.

I heard a knock on the door.

“Darrel I’m coming” I said, stealing one last glance at myself in the mirror.
Good!
I opened the door and met Darrel’s frown-filled face.

“Your friend and your ‘boyfriend’ is here” He said angrily.
“My friend and boyfriend?” I asked, confused.
“You lied to me! You said he’s only a pesterer! You even told me you don’t have a friend! Well…your so called pesterer is asking for you downstairs” Darrel yelled before walking down the stairs.

Joel!
Oh no!

“Darrel, hold on” I said rushing after him.
We got to the living room and truly i met Joel and Anne sitting down comfortably on the couch.

My stomach filled with fury..

Darrel stared at me before walking to the door.
“Darrel” I called after him but he walked out without turning back.

“What the hell are you guys doing here!” I yelled at them.

“What the hell are you guys doing here!” I yelled at them.

“Mia,chill” Anne said.
“Don’t freaking tell me to chill! Joel,how dare you introduce yourself to Darrel as my boyfriend” I said angrily.
“Why can’t i? Does being a housekeeper restricts you from having a boyfriend?” He asked pissing me off more.

“And who told you you are my boyfriend!”
“That was the reason he walked out angrily right? What the hell is going on between you two!” Joel yelled.

“What the hell are you both doing here!” I yelled back.
“You both should stop yelling at each other! Mia,boss sent us here” Anne said.

“Boss sent you here? He told you to come in formally?” I asked.
“Yeah,he wants Darrel to see us” She said and i calmed down a bit.

“I’ll be back, i need to check if he’s gone” Anne said walking to the window.
“So,how was the dinner party you both went to last night? Going to party with a dunderhead you’re to kill is not among boss rules” Joel said.

“He’s not a dunderhead! And the party was the most amazing I’ve ever attended.” I said clearly.
“Ohh…and did you just say he’s not a dunderhead? He’s not? Yet he has not realised he’s staying in the same house with an assassin he’s toiling to capture”
“That’s none of your business. What are you here for?” I asked..

“He’s gone” Anne said walking back into the living room.
“How dare you both step in the living room last night? What if he had caught you guys!” I said.
” We really needed to deliver boss message,that was the reason we did that” Anne said.

“If he had caught us? i would have killed him Immediately” Joel said and i laughed.
“Kill him,you say? Trust me, Darrel would kill you like you weigh nothing” I said and watched his face expression turned sour.

“What exactly are you here for?” I asked.
“Boss told us to tell you its time you killed Darrel?” Anne asked.
“I’m not killing him” I said.
“What!” They exclaimed.
“Yeah, i can’t kill him, someone who has been so nice to me,i won’t be an ingrate” I said.

“What the heck are you saying! Do you think he will treat you nicely if he knows who you truly are” Joel said.
“No one would treat an assassin nicely if they know who they truly are. Not Darrel alone” I said.

“Mia,like seriously?” Anne asked.
“Yeah” I said.
“What has come over you!” She said and i shrugged.
“Boss should send one of you to come kill him but i can’t kill Darrel with my own hands” I said.

Can i even watch Darrel killed?

Joel stood up..

“Let’s leave, Anne” He said.
“Yeah, leave. And don’t you ever introduce yourself as my boyfriend anymore cause you’re not!” I said.

They both walked out of the door.
I sighed and ran my hand through my hair, loosening my ponytail in the process.

Yeah!
I can’t kill Darrel.
I can’t!

I walked to the door and stepped out, closing it behind me.
I saw Joel driving out of the opened gate with Anne on the front passenger seat.
She was still looking at me with disbelief.

I walked to Nath after they were gone.
He was locking the gate.
“Do you know where Darrel is?” I asked.
“He walked out in a rush, did something happened?” He asked.
“Not really, do you know where he went to?” I asked.
“No, is everything okay?” Nath asked.

I nodded and walked to the door.

I pushed the door opened and stepped in.
I sat on a couch immediately i got to the living room.

They pissed me off honestly!
They shouldn’t have come.
They just made Darrel annoyed..

How will i explain to him?

Just then, i heard the door opened.

“Nath, is he back?” I asked without turning to the door.
“Yeah,I’m back” I heard Darrel’s voice and quickly jumped to my feet.

“Darrel…I can explain” I said facing him.
“Go ahead” He said.
“You should have waited and not left angrily” I said.
“I’m sorry” He said.

“You should believe me Darrel,that guy is a pesterer and that lady is the one who accommodated me before i started working as a live-in housekeeper here” I said wondering how my lie came out smoothly.
“Really?”
“Yeah,he went to meet that lady so she could persuade me” I said.

“What! So that lady came to persuade you?”
“Yeah, you should have waited” I said.
“Have you told that guy not to ever come here again?” He asked.
“Of course, i warned him. You shouldn’t have allowed them in in the first place” I said.
“Nath allowed them in” He said.

“So where did you went to?” I asked.
“I just walked down the street to cool off my anger.” He said.
“You got extra angry” I chuckled.
“I thought you lied to me, i hate being lied to by people i trust so much” He said.

Huh??

“Our plan have been ruined, i just got a call from Luke,i need to go work in my office now” He said.
“Ohh..fine, I also need to take a nap” I said.
“I’ll be fast with what i wanna do so we can still go ahead with our”
“Okay” I said.

“Will be back soon” He pecked me on the cheeks before walking towards his office.
I smiled and also made for my room.

I walked into my room,glad Darrel believed me.

For how long will i keep lieing to him and to think he’ll be killed soon is breaking my heart .
I know boss is gonna take a drastic step after Joel and Anne delivers my message to him.
I can’t watch Darrel die.

I jolted out of my thoughts when my phone started ringing.
I walked to drawer and picked it up.

Boss.
I’ve been expecting his call.

?Boss

?Come to Pine estate right now! ” He shouted angrily before disconnecting the call.

I sighed.

I walked into Darrel’s office and met him engrossed in whatever he was doing.
“Darrel,i need to go get some things at the grocery store” I said.
“Ohh.. okay, i can go with you if you will wait for just few minutes” He said.
“No,you don’t need to. You need to concentrate on your work okay. I’ll be back soon” I said.

“Alright. Are you with enough cash?” He asked .
“Yeah,i took some from your drawer”
“Okay”

I walked out of his office and hurried to the door.
I know boss is damn angry right now.

I got outside and told Nath I’m gonna get some things at the grocery store.
He opened the gate and i stepped out.

He seems happy, the news he got from Carol’s dad is enough to keep him happy all day.

I waved a cab to a stop.

“Pine estate” I said before hopping in.

I got to the door and breathed in before pulling it open.
It has been long i came here and everything seems weird to me.

I walked into the living room and met everyone seated.

Boss was facing the floor and i didn’t get to see his face.
It would have gone red with rage,i guess.
I miss Robbie and i kinda miss Carla’s glare too.

“Hi” I said slowly.
“Did you really told them you’re not gonna kill that agent!” Boss thundered, getting on his feet.
The rest followed suit.

My guess was right, his whole face depicted fury.

“Yes boss, i said that” I said.
“Have you gone crazy? Was that our plan. You were sent into that house to assassinate that agent after three months!” He said.
“Boss, he has been so nice to me” I said.
“Shut up!” He shouted and i swallowed.

“How dare you let emotions in? You don’t need emotion,It’s makes you weak” He said.
“Boss,I’m so sorry but i can’t just bring myself to kill him. Please boss,send another person to do the job” I said.
“You’ll be the one to do it! You’ll kill him with your hands” He said.
“I can’t, boss” I said and they gasped.
I realised this will be the first time I’ll disobey boss.

Because of Darrel.

“How dare you disregard my order” He raged.
“I’m sorry boss” I bowed.
“If i hadn’t picked you up then, you would have been long gone by now, i gave you life! I took care of you to this stage and you dare go against my order?” He said and words refuse to come out of my mouth.

Truly,boss made a great impact in my life.
I would have died.
Is this how I’ll repay him?
How can i let my feelings cloud my sense of reasoning.
I should have kept to the rules from the beginning.

I promised to always follow boss order.
I shouldn’t break that promise now.

“Okay,I’ll kill him” I managed to say,with my heart filled with pain.
“Good!”
“But it’s not three months yet” I said.
“You’ll kill him before three months and that’s now! Today” He said.
“What! Now?”
“Yeah”
“I can’t kill him now,we agreed it’s after three months boss..you stated the rules” I said.
“I have the right to change my rules, don’t I?”

“If it’s not up to three months as it is in the rule,then I’m not killing him!” I yelled and walked out angrily.

I alighted from the cab and paid the cab man before walking to the gate.
I knocked and waited for Nath..
I’m still a bit shaken by what happened.

I can’t believe i walked out on boss.
He would have shot me if he didn’t like me.

Nath opened the gate.

“Where are the things you went to get?” He asked.
“Huh?”
“You said you were gonna get some things at the grocery store” He said.
“Ohh…they are not available. I’ll just place an order for them” I said walking in.
“Okay then” He said.

I walked to the door and was about pulling it open when my phone buzzed in my pocket.
I brought it out.
It’s s message.

?For going against my order,his father will be the one to pay for it.
He’s at Lugold hotel and suite. Trust me, you’ll hear his death news soon.

Oh..no!

I rushed inside and met Darrel sipping juice in the living room.

“Darrel call your dad to leave that hotel immediately” I said catching my breath.
“What?” He asked.
“Call him now Darrel, please!” I said.
“Why?” He asked.
“He’s gonna get killed!” I said and he sprang to his feet.
“How?..what are you saying Mia?” He asked.

“Call him!” I screamed.

“Call him now!” I screamed.
“What’s going on?” He asked.

Shit!

“Darrel i had a dream that your father got killed!” I said.
“A dream?” He laughed.
“I’m serious Darrel” I said.
“But you are just coming in now”
“Save your father’s life first,I’ll explain later” I said.
“Okay” He said and picked his phone.

I stood impatiently while he put a call across his dad.

“He’s not picking up” He said.
“OMG!” I exclaimed.
“Call him again. Call him again” I said and he did.

?Dad” He said into the phone and i sighed in relief.

?Dad,you need to leave the hotel right now. Come to my house.

?No questions Dad,I’m gonna explain everything when you arrive.

“He’s on his way” Darrel said and i nodded.
“Or should we go get him?” I asked.
“Com’on relax, it’s just a dream. It shouldn’t be taken seriously” He said.
“Darrel, my dreams do come true. I swear” I said.
“Really?”
“Yeah, i take my dreams serious” I said.

“But, you’re just coming from the grocery store. When did you had the dream?” He asked.
“In the cab” I said.
“You slept off in the cab?” He asked.
“Huh… yeah” I said.
“Now I’m getting worried” He said.
“We should go get him fast” I said.
“He’s on his way here already” He said.
“I’m gonna make sure he leaves New York today” He added.

We both walked outside when we heard a car horn.

He’s here.

“Don’t turn off the ignition” Darrel said to the one of the bodyguards behind the wheel.
“We’re going to the airport now” He said and opened the car door.
He got in beside his dad and i heard his dad asking what’s wrong.

“You need to go back to California Dad” He said.
“Why?” Mr Holden asked.
“You’re not safe here anymore” Darrel said.
“OMG! Is it that assassin” Mr Holden panicked.
“No Dad, I’ll explain everything later”
“Well,I’m done with the business i came here for. Bye Mia” Mr Holden said.
“Bye Mr Holden” I said.
“Take good care of him okay?” He said and i nodded.

“Mia,get me my pistol.” Darrel said.
“Huh!”
“Yeah, i need to be with it . It’s in the drawer ” He said and i nodded slowly.

I quickly walked back into the house.
I got to his room and picked his pistol from the drawer before heading outside.

I feel like I’m betraying boss but this innocent man can not be killed just because of me.
He came here for a business, and not to be killed.

“Here is it” I stretched the pistol to Darrel.
“Thanks” He closed the car door and ordered the driver to drive.

Nath opened the gate and i prayed silently for them to get to the airport before boss realises.
They drove out and i walked back to the living room, feeling bad.

I just betrayed boss.

When did i start caring about innocent lives being taken.
I’ve killed innocent people all my life and i never cared this way.
And to think i just betrayed my boss is making me feel terrible.
But i had no choice than to save Darrel’s dad too, i know how much he loves his father and how much he’ll be hurt if his father is killed.

I plopped on the couch with a sigh.

I should be expecting boss call any moment from now.
He’ll have gotten a wind of mr Holden escape.

My heart skipped a beat when my phone started ringing.
I slowly brought it out of my pocket and stared at the screen.

Boss.

I swiped to the receiver and placed it on my ear.

? Mia, what has come over you. How dare you allow that man escape!

?Boss I’m so sorry about that but i can’t just let that man be killed cause of me.

?I can’t believe you’re doing this! You even walked out on me.

? I’m sorry boss, i don’t know what came over me.

?I cant believe you could betray me. You didn’t even considered the years we’ve spent together.
Well…you might think Mr Holden escape death today but you should trust me Mia. He’ll be dead soon.

?Boss, please you shouldn’t hurt anyone for another person’s sin.

?Ohh, you’re more changed than i thought. You know if it was another person trying this with me,i would make the person go through the three stages of pain before finally killing the person.

?Boss, I’m sorry” I said but he already disconnected the call.

Tears blinded my eye as i dropped my phone.
I’m not been fair.
I’m a big time betrayal, how could i betray the people I’ve lived with for years just for a guy i met a month and some weeks ago .

I should just kill Darrel and make peace return but i can’t bring myself to do that.
Darrel is the first guy I’ve ever loved.
I detest guys after what happened to me but meeting Darrel changed everything.

Even though i hate to admit it but i had liked him the first day i set my eyes on him.
I wish he can just quit this freaking job and return to California but he would never heed.

Who could ever thought I’d quarrel with boss.
I’ve accomplished several mission for him and none has ever turned out this way.
Why did everything about Darrel have to be difficult.

My freaking heart caused it..
If i hadn’t fallen for Darrel,i wouldn’t have think twice before killing him.

I wiped my eyes and laid on the couch rubbing my aching forehead.

I must admit I’m torn between boss and Darrel.

“Mia” I heard Darrel’s voice from my sleep.
I popped my eyes open.
My gaze was blur for some seconds but several blinking unblurred my gaze.
I saw him crouched in front of me, looking worried.

‘What?’ I thought.
My mouth felt dry and i swallowed painfully.

“Mia, you’re burning hot. You have a fever” Darrel said worriedly holding my hand.
“Help me sit up” i said and he did.

“Is your dad back to California?” I asked.
“Yeah”
“So fast?”
“Yeah, his private jet flew him” he said.
“Ohh”

“Let’s leave that for now and go to the hospital ” He said.
“Nah, I’m fine” I said even though I’m not.
My whole body is weak and numb, this is the first time i has fallen sick in years.

“You’re not fine Mia, let’s go to the hospital please” He said touching my forehead.
“I don’t want to, I’ll be fine. I just need a cold bath and a good sleep” I said.
“Arrrgh!” He sighed softly.

“Get on my back,I’ll take you to your room” He said shifting his back to me.
“Huh? Com’on i can walk” I said.
“Nah, i insist”
“Com’on D” I said.
“Get on my back or you go to the hospital” He said and i managed to grumble which made him laugh.

I got on his back and I’ve never feel so comfortable.
‘How come his hard looking back feels like bed” I thought as he climbed the stairs to my room.

I laid on my bed while Darrel dabbed my forehead with a wet piece of clothe.

“But you were perfectly fine before i went to the airport with Dad” He said.
“Yeah. I slept immediately after you left and i woke up to a fever. I guess it’s stress” I said.

“Sorry huh?” He said and i nodded.
“Seems my body is less hot now” I said.
“Yeah but not completely, I’ll need to keep doing this” He said and continued dabbing my forehead with the wet piece of clothe.
“I think you need to drink some chilled water, that will help too” He said and i nodded.

“I’ll be right back. Do you need anything else?” he asked and i shook my head.
I watched him walked out of my room.

?“How dare you let emotions in? You don’t need emotion,It makes you weak” ? I recalled boss words.

Truly, i don’t need emotion but it can’t be controlled.
I never believed i could ever get this soft.
I was a mean and cruel lady.

Darrel walked in with a glass cup of chilled water.
I sat up on the bed and took it from him.
I gulped it down my throat and it felt so good that i requested for more.
He quickly went to get it for me.

He came back and i gulped down the second glass cup of water.
Ohhh..

?Two days later?

I started doing my chores after i rinsed my mouth and face.

I don’t want Darrel to wake up yet, else he’s gonna stop me from doing the chores.
I’m okay now and i can continue my work but he won’t hear any of that.

I finished scrubbing and cleaning the floor and i proceeded downstairs.
I hurried with the remaining work and then headed to my room to have my bath.

“You shouldn’t have done the chores Mia” I heard Darrel said behind me.
I’m preparing breakfast in the kitchen.

“Darrel,you need to understand that I’m fine now” I said.

We both sat in the living room after breakfast engrossed in a kdrama.
The door opened and Nath walked in.
“Agent D. Someone is here to see you” Nath said, interrupting our breakfast.
“Who?” Darrel asked.
“From California” He said.

“Is your father here again?” I asked, alarmed.
He shouldn’t be here again. It’s risky.

“Nah. She said she’s Katy” Nath said and cold chill ran down my spine.

“Katy?” Darrel broke into a huge smile.
“Let her in” he said and Nath nodded before walking out.
“You know Katy right? My friend in California,the one i told you about” Darrel said excitedly.

I nodded slowly..

He stood up Immediately the door opened.
The lady walked in smiling and i must admit she looks pretty.
She looks exactly like the pictures i saw on Darrel’s phone, just that she’s more real now.

I watched as they both ran into each other’s arms screaming happily.
My eyes went to the luggage on the floor and my heart skipped a beat.

She’ll be staying here?

“I missed you” she said after they disengaged from the from the long hug.
“Me too. What an unexpected visit” Darrel said.
“Well..i couldn’t wait any longer, i wanted to see your face” She said, hugging Darrel again.

Our eyes met and a furious glint appeared in her eyes, it quickly disappeared that i almost thought i imagined it.

She tuck her hair behind her ears before turning her gaze back to Darrel.

“What’s with your luggage,do you wanna stay in New York for years” Darrel teased.
“Nah! I just wanna be with you for some weeks, I’ll be right here in this house” she said glancing at me.

What’s up with her?

“Katy,you know this is an official building” Darrel said.
“Yeah but it’s not restricted to another CIA agent ” She said.
“Fine then, you’re welcome here. I really miss you” Darrel smiled, helping her with her luggage.
“I missed you more, if i don’t. I won’t be here” She said.

“Come meet my housekeeper who already turn my friend” Darrel said leading her towards me.
I sighed and stood up.

“Hi” I said.
“Hello, your name?” She asked and i could sense the strictness in her voice.

“Mia” I said.
“Your last name?” She asked.
“Cunnane”
“How come most of your information are hidden? where do you stay before working here? What was your former occupation? Do you have a family? I wanna know who you are” She said.
“Com’on Katy. I explained everything to you” Darrel said.
“Darrel,just let me do this” She said.

“You want me to answer all that?” I asked.
“Of course,you must” She said.
“Hey! Last time i checked,you’re a CIA agent in California and not in New York City so i don’t owe you any answer nor explanation okay?” I retorted and she stared at me menacingly.

She thought I’m a cool girl?
Hell no!

“How was your journey?” Darrel asked Katy, breaking the weird silence.
“Fine” She said,not removing her gaze from my face.
I stared back at her equally.

“Mia, please help Katy clean up a room” Darrel said.
“Darrel, i clean the rooms in this house everyday,she should just pick anyone” I said.
“She calls you Darrel?” Katy asked in obvious surprise.
“Yeah” Darrel answered.
“Just Darrel? You’re her boss!” She said.
“I told her to call me Darrel,she never wanted to” Darrel said.

“I should take you to your room, you need to freshen up and eat” Darrel said, leading Katy away.

I sighed and sat back on the couch.
She’s so mean.

I bet she has been trying to get informations about me before coming here.
Why must she know anything about me?

I hissed and picked the remote control.
I resumed the movie and continued from where we stopped.

“Mia,help me microwave the left over for Katy,she should have that before lunch is ready” Darrel said.
They were both coming back into the living room.
She’s changed into a comfortable looking t-shirt and shorts, her loosed hair is now packed into a ponytail.

“Okay” I said and stood up.
“Nah! Im gonna make a meal myself” She said.
“No Katy,you need to rest , you just arrived” Darrel said.
“Oh .. com’on, I’m not tired at all” She said.
“Okay . I missed your meals though” Darrel said.
“I bet you’ve never tasted any meal as delicious as mine” She said..
“Huh… Mia makes delicious meals too” He said and i smiled inwardly as her expression turned sour.

“Where’s the kitchen?” She asked.
“Over there” Darrel pointed to the direction of the kitchen.
“Won’t you join me?” She asked Darrel.
“You want me to?”
“Of course” She said.
“Okay” Darrel said, holding my gaze.

I switched my gaze from him and sat down.
They both walked into the kitchen while i nursed the little jealousy building up in me.

She’s definitely gonna divert Darrel’s attention to herself alone.

I picked the remote control to resume the movie but i flung it away,stood up and walked to the stairs.
I heard their chatters and laughter and i returned back to living room.

I’m not gonna leave the living room for her.
She met me here and i shouldn’t be the one to feel threatened by her presence.
I sat down on the couch and resumed the movie.

The aroma of the meal she was making stirred me from my slumber.
Ohh…i was sleeping already,i didn’t enjoy the movie as i did when Darrel was with me.

I sniffed in more aroma and admitted she’s indeed a good cook.
I wonder what she’s making.

Ohh…the movie is still playing.

I sat upright and stared at the wall clock.
It’s almost time for lunch.

I heard a knock on the door and knew it was Nath.
“Come in Nath” I said and the door opened.
He walked in, smiling.

He should have resumed one of Mr Walker’s company yesterday as the CEO but he insisted on being here till Darrel is also ready to go back to California.

“Why are you seated here when you’re making such a delicious meal with a nice aroma” He said.
“I’m not the one making it” I said.
“Huh?” His eyes widened.
“Agent D.?” He asked.
“No, Katy” I said.
“Really?”
“Yeah Nath” I said.
“Wow, I’m impressed but I’d love it more if you were the one making ” He said and i smiled.

“Nath,you there? Come grab your lunch” Darrel called from the dining room.
“Mia too” He added.
“Let’s go” Nath took my hand and we both walked to the dining.

Katy was dishing out the delicious looking meal.
Wow!
Nath swallowed hard beside me.

“This is yours” She stretched a covered plate to Nath who collected it eagerly.
“I didn’t call you” She said to me.
“Huh?” I asked.
“Your portion isn’t here” She said leaving me stunned.
“Katy!” Darrel said.
“Darrel,you know i made just little” She said.
“But it’ll be enough for everyone” Darrel said.

“Don’t bother Darrel, I’ll microwave the left over in the fridge” I said.
“You mean Mia is not gonna eat from this lunch?” Nath asked and Katy nodded.
“Then I’m not eating too” Nath said and dropped the plate on the dining table, surprising everyone.

“Nath, com’on” I said.
“I’ll eat the leftover with you, serve me mine when you’re done microwaving it” He said and walked out of the dining room.
“Nath” I called after him.
“I have to be at my post” He said, opened the door and stepped out.

I glanced at Darrel and sighed before walking into the kitchen.
His face is expressionless.

I can’t believe that lady could behave this way!
She came here some hours ago and she already mixed up everything.

I shouldn’t even have expected to eat out of her meal, considering the way she treated me earlier.

Darrel said she’s a nice person,then why is she behaving this way.

I opened the fridge and brought out the leftover.
Nath should have just eaten that sumptuous-looking lunch. I know he really wanted it but he declined because of me.
I’m seriously moved by his actions.

I sat on the breakfast bar in the kitchen and started eating my lunch after i served Nath his.
I had passed the dining room and saw them eating.

“Mia, why are you eating here?” I heard Darrel asked.
I turned to see him standing by the kitchen door.
“It’s a little meal, i don’t need to go to the dining room” I said.
“Little meal or not, you’ve always eaten at the dining room” He said.
“Yeah but i wanna eat here today” I said.
“I’m sorry if you’re offended by the way Katy reacted to you. Trust me,she’s not like that. I guess it’s because she just arrived ” He said and i shrugged.

“Come with me to the dining room” He said and i was about declining but he quickly added ‘please’
“I’ll help you with your meal” he said and carried my meal.
“Should we walk down the street later in the day?” He asked and i nodded.

I’m glad he still wants to spend time with me even when she’s here.

We got to the dining and i sat down.
Darrel placed my meal in front of me, i continued eating refusing to look in Katy’s direction.

We all ate in silence.

I packed the stained dishes to the kitchen after everyone is done with lunch.
I started washing them in the sink.
I heard Katy telling Darrel about going to have a nap.

She really needs it.
I hope she’ll turn nice after she’s awake.

Darrel walked into the kitchen and started helping me with the dishes .
“Thank you” I smiled.

We wiped our hands on the napkin after we were done with the dishes.

“Should we go out for the walk now or when we’re done watching that movie?” Darrel asked as we both walked out of the kitchen.
“Let’s finish watching that movie, although,i already continued it without you” I said.
“Ow! You should have waited” He said.
“I’m sorry, i did not know when you’ll be done with Katy and i don’t want to be bored. ” I said.
“It’s fine” he smiled.

We laughed hard at the end of the funny kdrama.

“Geez! I knew that guy won’t stop being funny” Darrel said.
“He’s a crook,he even farted at the end” I laughed more.

“We should go out for a walk now” Darrel said.
“Okay” I said and repacked my hair.
I stood up and slide my feet into my footwear.

He took my hand and we both headed to the door.

“Where are you going to Darrel?” We heard Katy asked.
We both turned to see her walking down the stairs with a laptop in hand.

“I wanna take a walk down the street with Mia” Darrel said.
“Your housekeeper?” Katy asked.
“She’s not just my housekeeper,she‘s my friend” Darrel said tightening his hold on my hand.
“Ohh..fine then” Katy said.
“We’ll be back soon” Darrel said and we both walked out of the door.

“Do you want ice cream?” Darrel asked when we were approaching an ice cream shop.
“Of course” I smiled.

Our walk has been interesting so far, we kept talking and laughing about the movie we just finished watching.
I enjoy walking with Darrel,he’s so lively and fun.

We got to the ice cream shop and placed our order.
I requested for a chocolate flavor while Darrel chose a strawberry flavour.

We walked out of the shop after paying.
“Do you know chocolate flavor tastes better than strawberry” I said savouring the taste of my chocolate ice cream.
“Nah! Strawberry tastes better than chocolate. You need to taste it” Darrel said.
“Tch!” I rolled my eyes and he laughed.

“Strawberry is kinda childish but chocolate is for matured peoply like me” I teased.
“In your matured dream” Darrel said and i laughed.
“You know what? Just taste a bit out of this,i bet you’d throw that thing in your hand away” I said.
“I bet you’d thrash that chocolate ice cream once you taste this also” He said.

“Okay then” I said and raised my chocolate ice cream to his lips,he also placed his on my mouth and i thought i heard a click of camera shot but i shrugged it off.
Its just an imagination,i guess..

“Uggh! Tastes bitter!” Darrel spat after tasting my Ice cream
“Taste sour” I spat twice and we both laughed as we walked back home.

I was still chewing on my ice cream cone when we walked into the house.
We met Katy sitting in the living room obviously waiting for Darrel.

“Hey Katy” Darrel said.
“Darrel,how far have you gone with this case?” she asked and Darrel sighed.

“I can’t believe you go out to have ice cream while you still have a case unsolved” She said.
“I work hard on the case Katy, a little bit of fun is not bad” Darrel said.
“Really?”
“Yeah, i even have a office here” Darrel said.

“Good then, my main purpose is to come help you out on this mystery case, let’s go into your office” She said and stood up, closing her laptop.
“I’m glad you’re here,i really need to be done with this case as fast as possible. I have plans after this case” Darrel said and glanced at me.

Why do i feel the plan he has is about me?

“Good then, but I’m afraid we’ll take long in the office” Katy said.
“Why?” Darrel asked.
“We need to work hard on this case if you want to get done with it quickly” She said.
“Okay then”

“But first we’ll need to interrogate everyone in this house” She said.

“We don’t need to do that Katy” Darrel said.
“We need to,cause everyone is a suspect” She said, deliberately focusing her gaze on me.

“Alright go ahead” Darrel said and my heart skipped a beat.
He’s allowing this thing to interrogate me!

“Okay” She smiled “Go get the gatekeeper. I’ll start with Mia” She said.
“First,show me to your office”
“Mia will. Mia show her to my office while i go get Nath” Darrel said and i nodded.

I walked to his office with Katy walking behind me.
If she provokes me with her questions I’m just gonna slap the hell out of her face.

I opened the door and stepped in.
“Here is his office” I said and was about to walk out.
“Okay, but where are you going to?” She asked, checking out the office.
“The living room” I answered.
“Nah! This is where we will be having the interrogation.”She said and went to sit on Darrel’s main chair.

She dropped her laptop and opened Darrel’s.
She powered it and i was surprised she knew his password, she typed it so fast.

Are they that close?

“Sit” She said pointing to a sit opposite hers.
Why is she acting like she owns this office and why the hell is she operating Darrel’s laptop like it’s hers.
I breathed out before going to sit where she asked me to.

“Damn! Darrel have not gotten anywhere with this case,what the hell is he thinking!” She said to herself.
She started checking out the files on the desk, shaking her head and muttering to herself.

The door opened and Darrel came in with Nath.

“Darrel,I’m disappointed with your progress so far. It’s just like you haven’t done anything” Katy said.
“I’m trying Katy” he said.
“You’re not trying enough!” She said.

Nath sat beside me while Darrel went to stand beside Katy.
“Just look, someone kept sending mail to you about this assassin whenever she has a mission. Don’t you know you should track down the mail. It’ll give you a clue” She said.
“The mail is blocked” Darrel said.
“We can unblock it! Darrel,you weren’t like this. What went wrong?” She asked and Darrel sighed.

She stood up and surprisingly she hugged him…
What the heck!
“We can do this okay?” She said to him and he nodded.

“Okay,let’s start with the interrogation” She said and sat down.
“You’ve not started yet?” Darrel asked.
“Yeah, i was waiting for you” she said and picked a pen. A notepad is already in front of her.

She faced me..” So, your name?”
“You know that already” I said.
“Do i need to remind you that this is an interrogation” She said.
“Mia Cunnane” I said and she scribbled it down.
“Where do you stay?”
“Here” I said.
“I mean,where you lived before resuming here” She said.

“Yetim street, block 4” I said.

Damn!
Does such street even exist?

“Do you stay with your parents? And do you have any siblings?” She asked.
“I don’t stay with my parents and yes i have an elder brother” I said.
“Okay, so are you’re a citizen of New York City?”
“No, I’m a Californian” I said.
“Really?”
“Yeah” I said.
“Your parents and sibling stay in California then?”
“Yeah”

“Your home address in California?” She asked and i searched for what to say.
If i should mention any fake address, she’ll definitely find out it’s fake.
“The thing is, i left California when i was a teen and my family already relocated to a new place which i don’t know the address yet” I said.
“Really? What’s the old home address then?”
“It has been long,i can’t remember it” I said.
“Ohh” She said tapping her finger on the desk.

She glanced at Darrel before glancing back at me.

“May i see the pictures of your families?” She asked.
“No, i do not have any of their pictures” I said.
“Really?, Their contact then” She said, pissing me off already.
“What do you need it for?” I asked.
“I need to confirm the authenticity of what you’re telling me” She said.
“Well..you can’t have their contact” I said.
“Why?” She asked.

“Can you move to the next question already? I have things to do!” I snapped.
“Ohh” She drawled before turning to Nath.

“Hey, you can leave. You’re not a female are you?” She said.
“Obviously I’m not. Why did you requested to see me then?” Nath asked.
“I’m sorry about that” She said.

Nath nodded before standing up .
He walked out of the door leaving us in strain silence.

Darrel cleared his throat and turned to Katy.
“Do you have more questions to ask her?” He asked Katy who shook her head.
“But do you mind me going through your things?”
“For what!” I hit the desk in anger, standing up in the process.
“Katy you can’t do that” Darrel said.
“Why?” She asked.

“You don’t have the right to go through my things even as the CIA agent that you’re . That’s invading of privacy, you should know the law better” I said.
“Ohh… okay you can leave then”
She said.
“Don’t you dare go through my things behind my back, if you do. I promise you you won’t find it funny” I snarled.

“You don’t have to get worked up over this” She said.
“I don’t have to get worked up over this? When you kept treating me like I’m the freaking assassin you’re here to capture?” I said.
“You might be” She said and i won’t deny that my heart raced in what seems like fear.
“What! I might be?” I asked.
“Yeah, every grown up lady in this city is a suspect” She said.
“Including you!”
“I’m a Californian” She smiled, irking me further.

“Darrel sit, let’s dig into this case” She said.
“You can leave” She added and i glanced at Darrel who gave me a pleading gaze.

I walked out of the office and hurried to my room.
I need to hide my costumes, that lady is a fucking smartass!
If she had tried this with me when i was still hot blooded,i bet she would have died overnight.

Ahhh!
I’m not in good terms with boss, i would have informed him of Katy.
Well…it’s better i don’t, cause he’s gonna order me to kill her immediately.

I wonder why she’s behaving that way towards me?
Does she know already that I’m the assassin?
Nah! She doesn’t or she would have ordered my arrest immediately.

I opened the door to my room and walked in.
I hope she had not gone through my things when i was out with Darrel.

I walked to the drawer my costumes were and it was still locked.

I need to start keeping it in the bathroom cabinet from now on.

I wondered what they were doing in there as i passed by the door.
Why the hell did she have to come here!
Darrel would have been with me in the living room now,we would either be watching movie or chatting.
The moment she arrived,i knew she was gonna divert Darrel’s attention from me.

Well…thank God there’s Nath to talk to.

“Darrel,what do you mean by you don’t like the way I’m treating her?” I asked.
“Katy,i know you. You were never mean to anyone but why are you this way to mia?” He asked.
“You mean I’m treating her wrongly by interrogating her? I’m only trying to help you”
“No! But you’re a bit mean to her, you didn’t even gave her out of the lunch you prepared. You were never like that Katy” Darrel said.

“Thank goodness you know i was never like that and for me to act that way to a particular person,you should know she might not be who you think she is” I said.

Ever since i made a background check on Mia Cunnane,I’ve been restless.
There’s this strange thing about her that i can’t just place my finger on.

I should accept the fact that I’m not bit jealous of her.
She’s way prettier that i am and it looks like she caught Darrel’s attention already.
But i still insist on the fact that she’s not who we think she is.

She was trying to avoid some questions and i knew most of her answers weren’t genuine.
For someone who was trying to dodge answers,for someone who most of her information are hidden,for someone who couldn’t provide the pictures nor contact of her family. Then there must be something behind it and i promise to dig it out.

But first,i should concentrate on what brought me here.
I miss Darrel so much and yesternight i knew i might fall sick if i didn’t set my eyes on him today. I longed to feel the warmth of his perfect body.

I need to feel those succulent lips on mine.
I need him to love me back.
I need him to do all ive imagined him to do.
I’ve never loved a guy as i loved Darrel.
My world revolves around him alone.
I love him so much that sometimes,i wish i never loved him this much.

My feelings for him never decrease,it increases instead and I’m here to make him realise how much i love him.

But, seeing how he looks at his housekeeper is giving me some concern.
I hope it’s not what I’m thinking.
Normally,i know Darrel is a friendly person but he’s way too friendly to his housekeeper.
The way he steals glances at her and the way he brightens up whenever she’s beside him.

Well,they must have gotten along since they lived together for days.
Could they have done anything naughty?

Nah!
Darrel won’t do that.

“Katy” Darrel called, bringing me out of my thought.
“You see, Mia is a private person,i guess that’s the reason you might think she’s hiding something. Trust me, she’s pure” He said.
“Are you defending her?”
“No,I’m not” He said.
“Those questions i asked her,you should have done that before employing her” I said.
“Let’s keep that aside Katy and concentrate on the case” He said and i sighed.

“Okay”

We all sat round the dining table, eating the dinner i prepared.
I already served Nath his and i made sure i gave him a large portion tonight.
He impressed me in the afternoon.

“Delicious” Darrel said.
“Thanks” I smiled.
He smiled back at me and i felt butterflies.

Damn!
This guy has total control over my heart and soul.
He makes my heart move just with a glance.

“Darrel” Katy said.
I noticed she’s picking at her meal.
Well…she can starve,to hell i care!

“So, we need an IT genius for the blocked mail right?” She said.

Why’s she discussing it over dinner,I’m damn sure they would have discussed about it in the office.
Is she doing this to watch my reaction?
She must be joking then cause i won’t give any reaction to whatever she says.

“Yeah, there’s a guy in the police department. Tony,I’ll call him over tomorrow” Darrel said.

Yes!
Tony is one of us, he’s in the police force simply because of our team. boss actually sent him there to work as a cop to oversee the affairs and always get back to us and to always inform us before hand.

“No, i don’t want Tony to do the job, there’s another guy from California” Katy said.
