I told mom about this but she said I shouldn’t worry that the woman is fine since her family took her away.
“But no one have identified as her family member before now” I asked.
Mom looked at me and said, “Princess, stop worrying yourself, she is fine.”
She then left the room. I felt relieved, but still troubled. Days passed, but no news came.
I got extremely worried and had to disclose everything that had happened to dad,
luckily mom wasn’t at home and dad was home early.
“Dad,Uche told me that I was adopted.
I found an adoption document with my name, and it’s actually true.
Uche said Mom told Aunt that the màd woman near my school is my real mom.
Now she’s missing. Can you please help me make some findings about her?
Dad was silent for a moment, then he said, “I don’t really get what you’re saying.
but I’ll find out about the woman.”
“Your mom owes me an explanation,” he said. “And you, Bella, were not adopted.
I am your father, don’t forget that.” I asked myself, “Why would mom hide this from dad?”
I finally found my voice and asked him, “But why would mom hide such a thing from you? I could see the sadness in his eyes.
“Ella, he said “we will ask mom about that when I’m done helping you with it the investigations you need.
I nodded in agreement. “Don’t tell your mom anything until I’m done,” he said.
I nodded in agreement as he went into his room.
At home, when mom is around, I act like everything is fine, because I suspected she had a hand in everything that has happened.
A whole year passed, and still no news. I believed dad would take action, so I didn’t ask him.
I carried on with my life, but the woman was always on my mind.
I was so scared that something bad might have happened to her.
Dad came back from work on a Friday evening and came to my room.
Uche was fast asleep and snoring. He sat close to me and said, “Bella, wake up.
I have something to tell you.” I rubbed my eyes and got up, curious to know what couldn’t wait until morning.
“I didn’t tell you anything about the woman because I took her to the hospital for full recovery.
Your mom hired people to lock her up so you wouldn’t see her again.
Promise you’ll forgive her? Dad said, paused as he continued.
Your mom loves you a lot and she was scared of loosing you to someone else.
She stole you from the mád woman when you were a baby, she lied to me too.
All I remembered was that she went to the hospital to give birth and I dropped her off then went to the office.
Coming back she was home with our baby liked I thought.
The mád woman gave birth a day before your mother gave birth.
I heard today that the baby your mom gave birth to diéd in the hospital and she had to take the mad woman’s baby as replacement.
I was shocked “how could she lie to me”, I thought.
“Dad please let’s talk about this tomorrow,
it’s too much for me. But, how about my mom, I mean my real mom”, I asked.
She has fully recovered, he replied, go to sleep, tomorrow I will take you to go and see her.
I nodded as I went back to bed.
In the morning, Dad woke us up with a scream.
He was shouting at Mom for the first time, and Uche and I were very scared.
We went downstairs and dad suddenly kept quiet.
He sent Uche back to his room and to me, he said “sit down Bella, your mom has something to tell us”
I sat down with my mom, and she was crying.
I waited patiently for her to finish crying, so that she would tell me everything I needed to know.
Especially who Jane is, I had already made up my mind that I will not forgive her.
