My Attitude Final Part 2 – Emeka Edozie
Immediately I got home around 11:52pm and opened the door, I noticed that my wife was still chatting and smiling.
“Who is making my wife smile shee.pishly online?”, I asked myself.
She barely noticed that I was back from the party. I had to announce my presence by telling her that I was back already.
“Babe, I am back from the party”
“Welcome back”, she replied.
I changed into my night wea.r before I joined her in bed that night. I was deeply distu.rbed by my wife’s sudden attitude.
“Babe, is there anything you want to tell me? I noticed that since I came back last night, you’ve been acting strang.e. Are you ok? “, I asked while care.ssing her hair.
” I am ok”, she chuckled.
To prove that she was ok to me, she switched off her phone and drew closer to me. She laid on my chest, held me and slept off.
I stared at her face for sometime as she slept like a newborn baby. I imagined what I have made her go through; the nights she had to stay awake while waiting for me to come back from different parties I attended with my friends.
Even as she slept, she looked so beautiful that I would never allow another to take her away from me.
I didn’t know when i slept off. I was woken up the next morning by the crows of Mama Bisi’s coc.k and the chirping of birds which sang melodiously near my window.
I jolted from the bed, took my bath and ate the breakfast my wife prepared for me before heading to work.
I couldn’t concentrate at work because thoughts of my wife occupied my mind. I was disorganized and my boss noticed.
“Mr Emeka, you seem disturbed today? Is there anything you would like to share with me, I might be of help”, he said when he noticed that I was absent minded.
” Sir, it is just a minor issue. There’s nothing to worry about”
” Please, I wouldn’t want those issues to interf.er with your work in the office. Compile those documents and bring it to my office”,he said before leaving my office.
” Alright, sir”
After work that day, I decided to go home immediately and meet my wife.
On getting home and opening the door, I saw my wife speaking to someone on phone.
When she saw me, she ended the call abruptly.
“I will call you back later”, she said with a smile on her facee as she welcomed me.
“Babe, who was that you were talking to?”
“Eeeerm, huh! It’s just a friend”, she stutt.ered.
That was the part that broke the camel’s back. I knew instantly that something was wrong and my wife was hiding something from me.
To avoid further questions from me, she grabbed the briefcase from my hand and went into the bedroom to drop it.
I stood there thinking of what to do when my phone rang. I glanced at my phone and discovered that it was an unknown number.
I picked the call immediately.
“Hello Emeka, this is chidi your friend. There is a big party happening in town today and you can’t afford to miss it. Where are you now? “
” Chidi, I can’t make it tonight. I need to sort some issues in my family”
” Guy, you can settle it when we come back from this party. This party will be fun, I promise you”, he tried to convince me.
I quickly tappe.d the end button and switched off my phone.
First things, first! I had to quench this firee in my home before it consu.mes me. I won’t take chances anymore.
I walked into the bedroom……
I went into the bed to meet my wife so that we could sort our differences but she was already asleep.
I didn’t want to bother her even though I knew that she wasn’t really sleeping. We were gradually becoming strangers and it was so visible that even a blind man would see it.
I kisssed her on the forehead before I slept off.
The next morning, my alarm clock woke me up from sleep. I took my bath and left for work.
While I was in the office, the receptionist came and told me that some people were looking for me.
I stepped outside and met my two friends.
“Guy, you missed a lot yesterday. Infact, yesterday was the best party we’ve enjoyed in a long while”
” Wow, really”
” Yes ooo. Meanwhile, we came here so that we can go to today’s party together. We don’t want you to give us any excuse like you did yesterday”, chidi said smiling like a baby.
” Eeerm guys! I am so sorry. I won’t be attending parties with you people any longer. I want to focus on my family now. You guys can go ahead and have fun”, I retorted.
” Emeka, you can’t be serious right now”
” Unfortunately, I am serious. Please, I want to go back to my office. I have lots of things to do”, I said before leaving them.
Chidi tried to convince me but my mind was made up. They were speechless because they never expected it.
I watched them from my office as they left. Truth be told, I was going to miss my two friends but I had to take that drastic measure so as to preserve my home.
Immediately I closed from work that day, I rushed home to meet my wife. I couldn’t help but imagine how surprised she will be to see me come home so early.
I got home only to discover that the door was locked. I used my own key to open the door before I entered the house.
My wife wasn’t around. I quickly brought out my phone and dialled her number but she didn’t pick.
I called her countless times but she didn’t pick her calls. I was worried.
“What if she had gone to see the person she had been chatting with all these while”, i thought.
I was still wondering where she could be when my phone beeped. It was a text message from my wife….
“Honey, i went to a party with a friend. I couldn’t pick my calls because it is so noisy here”
I tried her number once again but she had switched her phone off. My heart was about to explode. I kept walking from one end of the room to the other.
My head was spinning and different unimaginable things were flying through my mind. I thought about what my wife was doing at that moment.
I nearly went craazy.
I decided to freshen up before going out to look for Chioma, my wife. Just as I opened the bathroom door, I saw my wife there.
She burst into laughter.
“Why were you acting as if I had gone missing? I have been watching you from here as you kept walking around the room in anger. I planned all these things to see whether you will change. Moreover, I’ve not been chatting with another man. I fakéd it all through”, she giggled.
I tried to say something but empty air left my mouth.
I moved closer to her and planted a passionate kisses on her lips.
“I’m so sorry babe for everything I have put you through. It will never happen again! I love you so much, babe”
” Really? “
” Yes. I will always spend time with you and i wont allow anything to come in between us again. Infact, let’s go inside so that i will show you how serious I am”, I said as I lifted her and carried her into our bedroom……
