I Love Our Best Man Final Part 2 – Tosin Ezekiel
Serah noticed someone was in the car with his head bowed over the stirring. She stood transfixed; she wanted to move closer, but she was scared.
“Could this be Yinka, but this person is sleeping?” If it’s Yinka, he should come out of the car and greet me. But why has he not picked up his call?
Serah thought for a while and eventually moved closer.
Two steps away from the car, she waved twice, but there was no response. She got close, knocked, and waited for a response. The man in the car didn’t move or shake.
She knocked again, and there was still no response.
“What kind of sleep is this?” Is he pretending to be asleep, or what? Maybe it’s not Yinka. I shouldn’t put myself in trouble.
But she summoned courage and put her hand on the door to open it. She breathed out and breathed in.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the gate. Her heart melted like wax; she almost peed her pants.
Serah quickly moved towards the gate. Two people were there: a guy and a lady. They were coworkers, and they had come to check on Yinka.
Serah greeted one of them and snubbed the other lady. The lady was among those talking against Yinka at work. “So why is she here?” Serah thought.
“Have you seen him?” The first guy asked.
“Erm, no, I just came too, but he’s not in the house,” Serah mumbled.
“But that is his car now.” “Have you checked?” the lady asked Serah, trying to gain her attention.
“You can check,” Serah said, feeling relieved.
The lady moved towards the car. Then she shouted, “He’s there!” See him in the car. “I guess he’s enjoying a nap.”
She said it with a huge smile.
Serah and the guy rushed forward. As they moved closer, the lady opened the driver’s door. Suddenly, he fell from the car.
They all scoured and ran back. But Serah quickly moved close.
There was a pungent, purifying odour. Vera covered her mouth and nose with her hands. She stood for five seconds, staring at the dead body on the floor. She fell!
The two colleagues standing afar quickly moved closer. The lady poured the bottled water in her hand on Sarah’s face.
The guy moved close to the body on the floor; the skin was greenish with reddish-black foam dripping from the nose. There was so much bad odour in the air.
The police came an hour later, followed by an ambulance. They packed the body, and Serah was taken to the hospital. The doctor said she was in critical condition, and the baby and the mother were at risk. ***
In another city far away…
“It’s okay. Stop crying. Am I not more than him to you,” he said.
But Vera left the main room and went to the inner room. It was two en-suite rooms.
He paced after her to the bedroom. The way he walked, you would know he was not sad about the death.
“But I was talking to you, and you just left me.” Anybody who died has died. “We are alive to enjoy ourselves,” he added, trying to place his hand on Vera’s neck.
She pushed him away. “You are wicked! Don’t you have any feelings? “This is a man I lived in the same house with for five years.”
“Hey, woman, stop! “I didn’t bring you here to insult me,” he said like a warning.
Vera hissed, “Who knows if you were the one that…that…,” she stammered.
“You said what!” “Are you mad?” He yelled.
“I said what you heard; leave me alone,” she said, trying to move back to the other room.
He didn’t allow her to finish the talk. He landed two slaps on her cheeks.
She defended herself and pushed him down. He stood up and gave her the beating of her life. He forgot about her pregnancy.
The next two weeks were hell in the house. He beat her almost every day.
“Go back to your dead husband, or I will send you,” he always threatened her.
One evening, a fight broke out again.
“You know I was going to marry you; why did you follow him?” The new girl I wanted to marry at work, he ran after her again. We got employed the same day, but he was promoted one faster. Am I a fool?
“But is that why you killed him?” Vera said with tears.
He responded with a hot blow to her stomach. She fell and rolled on the floor for seconds, and then there was blood. The sight of blood didn’t move him. She continued to punch her.
The following morning, she managed to get herself to a nearby clinic. It happened! She lost the baby.
Vera returned home very quietly. For two days, she was mute and didn’t raise her voice against him. She was on medication. To her, it was over; what had happened then was gone. She could not continue to suffer. But she had a plan.
Early on a Sunday, he was still in his shorts on the bed. His sleeping style was like a lizard turned upside down; everything would face up.
Vera came with the substance in a white gallon. Without switching the light on, she located him on the bed.
She poured the substance on him; it landed around his waist and pubic region.
It was acid. While he screamed in pain, Vera ran out, holding his ATM card. She shut the door behind her. ***
Who was the person screaming?
I didn’t mention his name. Tell me his name and describe him. Do you think Vera served him right?
Seven months later, Serah gave birth to a baby boy. His grandparents named him Olapadayimika; in short, he was named Yinka.
