(Episode 6)
“Vivian…vivian , ohhhh yeahhh she is our cousin” freda replied
“Really” janet asked
“yeas, it’s been ages you know, we’re sorry ;we forgot to tell you about our distant cousin” freda smiled and stood up.
“i need to refreshen up , am tired; it was a long journey”
she left janet at the parlour down to the guest room just to avoid questions from her.
Janet was still at the sitting room relaxing ; but later got up and left to the kitchen to prepare meal for her even though she wasn’t comfortable with her replies but she let everything slide.
Fastforward to when ray was discharged from the hospital; janet drove him home and made sure he took his medication as instructed by the doctor;
he was excited to see freda at home; but freda wasn’t really keeping a good face, that instance he knew something was wrong somewhere and needed to clear it out with her as soon as possible.
Two days later ray was fully recovered, life went back to normal but he was told by his boss not to resume work untill after one month.
So he spent enough time with his wife janet ; one afternoon he secretly asked freda to meet him at one bar across the street; they finally met.
“what is it freda! you’ve been acting we*ird ever since i came back, have i offended you?”
“Who is vivian”
“uhmm vivian is just a friend”
“and you lied to your wife that she is your cousin; do you know if i should had denied not knowing her as our cousin; you would have been in a big mess?”
“really…she asked you? ; well thanks for having my back all the time”
“Look here, i won’t hesistate to spi*ll it out if necessary, better cut ties with that girl, stop cheating . i’m not encouraging you to cheat on your wife, i was only trying to maintain peace”
“Okay , thanks so much, i promise to be of good behaviour, but you sef you are sharp o” ray hit her arms and smiled; she smiled back and they drank up their juice.
After there he left to dan’s house ; dan and ray has been friends for ages , dan knew about me all along, he knew I and ray have been dating but he was not in support of it.
“I’m glad you’re recovering. am sorry i couldn’t come to the hospital, i was so busy i planned on coming when you’re discharged” dan said.
“You’re not a good friend but nevermind, am in big soup!”
“what is it” dan asked.
“my wife almost knew about my cheating life”
“i’ve warned you to stay away from vivian, am not in support of this; i mean your wife is a good woman she doesn’t deserve all this” dan flamed.
“relax my guy, see my guy its not easy o, but i love my wife so much “
“eh ehn then letgo of vivian”
“no, i can’t let go of vivian; i love that girl o”
dan sat erect
“how can you love two women at the same time you’re just confused you should be given award for the best player . hehehehe when i told you to be single like me you refused” dan laughed.
“I’ll try and visit vivian; she has not been picking my calls” ray complained;
dan advised him to visit her at home.
The following day, when janet left to work; ray dressed up and came to my house .
(A knock on the door )
“who’s there…am coming”
I walked to the door and open it ; to my surprised it was ray, i sighed and left him by the door .
“What are you doing here” i asked while standing waiting for his reply
“why haven’t you been picking my calls, what happened to us you’ve been acting wei*rd lately
“look ray; you don’t know how it feels to be alone here..The thought of you in another woman arms, Everyday i do think about you, how you are fairing, they bed you’re sleeping on, and if you had a sound sleep without me. See ray , it hurts deeply especially when we are no more close; yes i was told you were discharged lastweek but i couldn’t come just to avoid your wife. i love you and i don’t think i can endure this anymore; i can’t stay a day without seeing you. i’ve been hiding this feelings since you were hospitalized. it’s better i don’t hurt myself at that process. i want some space.
“No no, that can’t happen i love you”
“Your wife is acting so friendly and weird even when i introduced myself as your cousin; am confused i just dont want her to think am a bad person . she’s a nice woman”
Ray stoodup and came closer to me then held my waist from behind .
“you knew all along i was married…so why this….why complaining you knew i was married even when we started dating. you shouldn’t be bothered, see dear we can still work things out please”
“work what out? you’re already with your wife i think you should concentrate on your marriage”
Ray was adamant he kept on professing love for me.
“love isn’t enough ray”
he withdrew his hands from my waist “then what do you have me do then if love isn’t enough?”
“Divorce her”
i turned my face away from him
“is that what you really want?” he asked.
“i dont know ray i think you should let your wife know about us atleast that way she will stop regarding me as your cousin ; i am tired of pretending”
“I planned on letting her know about us; she has been asking me about you. she asked me to bring you home ; some days ago she asked if you’re truly my cousin ; i was dumbfounded , i said yes as usual. see dear , my wife is a very smart woman; she will definitely find out the truth about us someday if not today but later.
My close friend dan told me she visited him about a week ago just to get some information about you and if you’re truly my cousin but he debunk it.
” Ray i think we should have a break in this relationship”
I left him there down to my room
Ray stood there looking so dissapointed ;
he walked out and bounced the door behind.
On approaching his home, he stopped his car on the road and was thinking about what would be his wife’s reaction when he tells her everything .
“No i can’t hide it anymore i have to tell her the truth” he whispered to himself and now drove to his house.
He entered inside and saw his wife reading novel.
He walked closer and kissed her on her cheeks
“welcome back hunny” she smiled
“yeah love thanks”
he sat down beside her and was looking confused, his lips was heavy.
“what is it” janet asked when she noticed his count*enance.
“Theres something i want to tell you”
Janet turned and face him
“okaay…spill, am all ears”
“vivian isn’t my cousin!
“you said what?” janet widened her eyes
“she was my girlfriend”
janet stood up and th*rew the book that she was holding to the ground.
Ray kn*elt down and said “we are not together anymore ! please i am so sorry dear”
Tears rolled down from janet’s eyes
“really , really Ray; now listen to me;
ray nodded
“Any question i ask you , do well to answer truthfully okay?”
“Alright alright but please i… “
“oh ray just keep quiet and answer this” she interr*upted and continued
” was she good?”
“Yeas, but i brokeup with her”
“Omg! is she better than me?”
“No she is not but…
“How many years have you guys been dating?”
” 2 years ” ray cried.
“Apart from her any other girl?”
“No ! it’s only her” ray held her legs but she fl*ung his hands away.
“Two good years of our marriage, you choosed to spend it with some other girl as if i never existed.
You don’t even regard me as anything; to have spent half of our married life with her ; you must have really loved this girl …you’re so unbelievable”
Janet wiped her tears and walked away and climbed upstairs; she turned back and stare at ray kneeling;
she walked back to where he was kne*eling and stood before him smiling;
Ray was still kneeling but when he noticed that his wife countenance has changed
he stood up and was amazed by her smiles and gig*glings.
“why are you smiling” he asked
“I knew about it all” she said
“you…you knew about what?”
“Oh cut me that c*rap; you should be grateful to God you survived it”
