Ghost in my land – Victor Eric

When I was growing up I used to hear people talking about dead spirit,I use to think it was a fairly tail, until I had encounter with it one day.in the land of Eziama, there is a particular place that is not allowed to be entered alone we call that place ODERE.

During the Nigeria Biafra war so many people died and where buried in max without carrying out any burial rights,so their spirit had been rooming around those place since then.sometime you will be in the bush and start hearing people talking at your back but if you tried to look back you won’t see anyone.

The blood of the innocent Igbo men, mother’s, youths, and children they were killed them had been tormenting our land because those that was buried in our land are not from our land, their life was cut short, and there spirit are not at rest😢.

People from Abia State, Ebonyi,Enugu and some neighbouring village was killed in our land because our local government was the only place that the war didn’t enter in the whole Igbo land, thanks to God for that.

So one day I went to fetch fire wood with my brother’s and we all headed to that ODERE after we finish fetching the firewood we started tying it up after doing the needful I wanted to pick my cutlass that was when I noticed that I drop my cutlass in the last place we fetch the last firewood.

I begged my brother’s to escort me in retrieving the cutlass they refused, but what they did that broke my heart was that they where blaming me of being careless,I left them ,the only thing that followed me back to the forest was our beloved dog(JERRY).when I looked at the weather then I knew it getting late because the day is getting dark.

On my way to the place I saw an old woman picking palmfruit (Akwu,Nkwu) in the forest all alone I greeted her but she didn’t answer that was when I knew that there is something strange about her , cause it only a spirit that will not like to answer greetings in the bush.

When she didn’t return my greetings back to me that when I knew that there is something fishing about her.But as am in a hurry to locate the exact place I dropped my cutlass I ignore her,but our dog didn’t.

When I noticed that the dog with me was uncomfortable with the area we were I had to stop and looked back to my surprise I didn’t see that woman again, fear gripped me but I had no other choice than to continue my quest.when we got to a place we called OZARA in that forest I noticed that things are not in other over there.

I started crying because I knew that there is danger around,I saw the bush shaking and I heard some footsteps walking around me but I couldn’t see anyone i started running as am running I missed my way home, but road that lead to road led me to a place we called”UYi”that was where I saw the same old woman that I saw previously.

I stop and greet her this time she responded and asked me what I am doing in the bush by this time of the day I narrate my story to her that when I heard her saying” please you should go bag that the child was an innocent child ” I was surprised cause am not seeing who she was talking with or pleading on my behalf.

She asked me to run home that the night is filled with evil,i thanked her and speed up,on our way with our dog my dog was in front of me but He stopped and start backing aggressively,i noticed that He saw something that my eyes couldn’t see but I was hearing some voice from the nearby bush around me.

Unexpectedly a lady (at her early 40’s)came out from the bush with anger written all over her,she asked me to go back where am coming from that she won’t allow me to cross because they are having meeting and am disturbing them I started crying again and our dog was backing with red eyes..
