FATED – Gracely

FATED – Gracely

Two years ago my sister disappeared.

Vivian disappeared on her wedding day!

She didn’t confide in anyone

she didn’t tell anyone about it

she just left.

I had gone to dress her up only to find an empty room.

she left with her belongings.

My parents were devasted

Everyone was tensed, we tried calling her but it wasn’t connecting

The only question in my mind was…

“what went wrong”

Vivian was not the type to make rash decisions also it was obvious to all that she was in love with her to-be husband, David.

My parents reached out to David and told him about it.

Surprisingly he took it calmly and told my parents to make me the substitute.

I got angry when I was told. I was just 20!

I wasn’t ready to get married, especially not to someone I didn’t love.

I also had a boyfriend

I felt like I was going to go crazy

It just sounded so absurd.

But then I had to do it.

I didn’t want my parents to become a laughing stock.

Also I was Vivian’s lookalike so I was the best substitute.

I wedded David with the thought that Vivian would be found soon and everything would return to normal.

But I was mistaken

Nothing like that happened.

After the wedding, I was made to move in with David.

I didn’t love him so we didn’t relate as couples should but we were at least friends.

A year after the marriage, David took me out to his favorite restaurant.

We had fun talking and had a few drinks.

I had low alcohol tolerance so I got drunk after a few glasses.

I woke the next day in David’s room, nak.ed

I didn’t know how it happened but I knew something had happened.

David apologized, he felt sorry and I forgave him.

We continued to acting like a couple in the open and as friends at home.

David was still in love with Vivian, he continued to search for her but he found nothing.

After the alcohol incident my thoughts towards David changed.

I started liking him more

I always wanted to spend time with him

I didn’t know what came over me but I realized I was falling for David.

I couldn’t tell him about it so I just pretended not to care about him.

One day David came home from work smiling brightly.

He had received a message from his private detective that Vivian was seen in porthacourt, Airport road

He was very happy, since this was the first news about Vivian since she disappeared.

I didn’t know how to feel.

Vivian was my sister, I should be happy right?

But I felt like someone was coming to steal from me.

My parents were informed of the news, they were also happy.

I faked a smile and went to my room.

My feelings were conflicted

Vivian would come back soon, does that mean that I have to leave?

What about what I feel for David?

The detective only caught a glimpse of her, she had not been actually found.

The news was for us to know she’s alive and well.

The whole family was eager to see her, they all wanted to know her reasons for leaving.

Days, weeks and months passed but Vivian’s location wasn’t found.

We were all starting to lose hope of finding her.

But I was worried and restless. I couldn’t concentrate at work.

I didn’t sleep well too and it started affecting my health.

David came home one day and told me his company was organizing a dinner party for their important staffs. David was a manager so he was invited.

The party stated that he was to come with a partner, that was why I was informed.

The party was in three days time, there was still time to prepare

David took me to a boutique to choose an outfit for us.

He wanted us to wear a matching outfit.

While we were choosing our clothes I noticed something different.

Someone was watching us!

I had noticed it as soon as we entered the boutique, I tried shaking off the feeling because I didn’t see anyone around.

But then it came so strong this time I had to tell David. We both looked around and tried searching the area but we found nothing.

I returned home with a feeling of dread in heart, my sickness worsened.

I didn’t tell David about my health because I didn’t want him to worry.

On the day of the party I dressed up and was applying make-up.

I took my time on my face, I wanted to be as delicate as I could. That was when I noticed the changes in my body

I had been sick a while but I was adding weight.

My skin also had a different glow than usual.

I decided to forget about it and focus on the party

David was in a good mood as he drove happily to the venue.

We got out of the car and walked in hand in hand

This was one of those days where we had to pretend like couples in love

We were about to go to in when we heard a familiar voice

”David”….She called

I turned around and came face to face with her

The face that had haunted me, the face that has been giving me sleepless night.

I felt my knees buckle and my legs give way

There was only one word I could mutter as I lose consciousness.

“Vivian”

Water was sprinkled on my face, I woke up.

David then offered to take me to the hospital.

I didn’t like the smell of drugs there so I told him not to worry, that I had fainted out of shock.

Vivian came towards us with tears in her eyes, she was dressed well but her expression looked pitiful.

We were in no mood to attend the party so we went back home taking Vivian with us.

All through the ride Vivian kept staring at me. Her eyes were full of hate

I saved her and our family’s reputation I didn’t understand why she would look at me like that.

I wasn’t feeling well so I didn’t bother talking to her.

When we arrived home David called our parents and told them about Vivian’s arrival

Vivian was going to explain whatever had happened in front of the entire family the next day.

David didn’t ask her anything, he told her to go to the guest room

Then he took me to my room, made me take some pain relievers and he retired to his own room.

I was exhausted and tried to sleep.

Closing my eyes the only thing I could see was Vivian’s cold eyes staring at me.

I found it hard to sleep so I ended up waking up really late

The next day, I walked into the sitting room and found my parents already seated

David’s parents were also there.

And Vivian was kneeling in the front of the whole family about to start her explanation. I quietly sat down to listen to what she had to say.

Vivian looked at me and said

“someone planned my disappearance”

Then she went on to narrate the incident

Vivian said she woke up very early that morning, she couldn’t sleep well because of the excitement.

She had gone out of her room carrying her bags with the hope of keeping it in the car she would be taking to the wedding.

By the time she got out someone covered her head with a bag.

she tried struggling but was injected with a sedative so she lost consciousness.

When she woke up she found herself in a dark room, three days had passed.

She didn’t know where she was and she didn’t see anyone.

Every afternoon the window of that room would be opened and someone would pass food to her and also hand her a phone.

A girl would call the phone and speak with her, the girl was always laughing and would tell her she was doomed to suffer.

Miraculously the door of room opened, she looked around and found no one then she ran away.

When she got outside far from the place she noticed she was in a different place, Dubai.

While walking around aimlessly she was caught by the police, they asked for her documents but she didn’t have any so she was deported.

David’s parents asked her while she didn’t locate home or call immediately she got to Nigeria.

She said she realized she was being followed as soon as she arrived at the Airport. She was running for her life. And that she didn’t want to put anyone in trouble by coming home.

With tears in her eyes, she claimed to have suffered and that someone in the same house with her was responsible.Because there was no way an outsider would have access to the house gate.

David started laughing
