Toning is NOT bleaching.
Toning removes blemishes from your skin and evens your skin tones and texture.
Toning does NOT change your natural skin color.
Bleaching means to become fairer than the original skin colour. Many people hide under the word “toning” to explain away their bleaching.
Exfoliating is NOT bleaching. Exfoliating does NOT change your original skin colour. Exfoliating sheds away dead skin cells from the layers of your skin to help reduce clogging.
I recently started working with a company named SEPHORA. Sephora is one of the top three skin care and makeup retailers in North America and one of the best in the world.
I was intensively trained about skin care. I know now than ever before what these skin care routines and terms mean.
Many Nigerian women bleach their skins and part of their senses away and want to tell us that “bleaching right” isn’t dangerous. There is no right way to bleach to stop the longterm effects.
The skincare retailers won’t tell their clients the truth because they want to sell. 80% of their products are bleaching items so they refuse to tell you the dangers of bleaching.
And that’s professional dishonesty.
Even cigarette producing companies are obligated to warn their customers that smoking kills.
Skin care producers here in North America will tell you the possible side effects. But the ones in Nigeria want to tell us that bleaching is okay.
Bleaching has serious health consequences. There are no euphemisms for this fact.
And it is borne out of low self-esteem and a refusal to accept who you are.
