THE SCHOOL GHOST
Episode 10

Jerry decided to let her be so that she won’t get suspicions of any kind and on the other hand, Susan couldn’t even believe Jerry’s scornful words concerning Richard.

Even with the little clue they got from the student who claimed he was schooling with her, or maybe that’s because Richard isn’t his biological son.

She just went into their room and closed the door with heavy jerk from the door echoing in the air.

Jerry thought for a while, “what could be done to avoid her from going to St Anthony, “This is really tough,”

He soliloquized and after a while of thinking, he couldn’t get an idea of what to do, he had to go to bed too, hoping that the next day would turn out positively for him.

Susan quickly freshened up the next morning, when Jerry wasn’t awake yet.

She decided to sneak out of the house to avoid his unnecessary queries and delay.

Her knuckles whitened as she gripped the steering wheel, her pulse racing in sync with the engine’s growl.

Jerry’s scornfully words replayed in her ears, his speech marked a painful scar inside Susan’s heart.

“Richard will return whenever he wants, he’s just missing.”

“I wonder why men are this heartless, it doesn’t matter if the girl’s right or wrong,

let’s just figure it out if it’s true….he might be schooling there, maybe he’s adopted, who knows!?”.

Susan kept soliloquizing while driving with an anticipation of sobs.

The narrow streets of St. Bishop blurred past, a chaotic dance of brick and asphalt.

Anger fueled her, as she keeps pushing her foot down harder on the gas pedal.

“Am going to prove you wrong, am sure my child his there”.

It wasn’t a long drive from St bishop to the school.

Susan parked her car at the school yard, her breath hitching.

She walked straight to the principal’s office which was noticeable and she knocked at the door before getting a reply from a male matured voice, “come in.”

She got in and went to sit in one of the chairs placed for anyone that came to visit Mr Thompson, the school principal.

“Good morning sir.”

“Good morning, how may I help you?” Mr. Thompson asked, he just finished attaching his signature in a particular document before putting it into his drawer.

“Okay sir, I actually came here to look for a certain boy named Richard,” Susan requested.

“Richard? There are many Richard’s in this school, do you know his surname?”

Susan rally words, then gather her wits”…..okafor…richard okafor sir”.

She retorted, as she dipped her hands inside her bag and brought out Richard’s passport, she needed it as a proof,to figure out the particular boy she’s looking for.

Mr. Thompson stared at the passport with squinted eyes trying to recall where he saw such face and suddenly he felt a strange tingle in his body that made him change his mind.

“Oh, yes ma’am. he schooled here with us just, not up to a week, but he stopped coming, we don’t know his whereabouts, i tried going through his document.

Hoping to find his home address but to no avail”.

Jerry’s eyes snapped open, the room bathed in moonlight. The warmth of Susan’s body was conspicuously absent beside him. His heart raced, and he sat up, scanning the room. Where was she?

“Where could she have gone to?” Jerry’s mind raced. “I hope it’s not what I’m thinking.” His instincts told him Susan’s curiosity must have piqued to St. Anthony High School.

Without wasting much Time, he swung his legs over the edge of the bed, the cold floor biting into his skin.

With the oblivion of the native doctors warning about the girl, and the spirit of Richard unrestless spirit seeking justice.

Jerry’s anger flared, he clenched his fists, while snatching the car keys on the dresser, put on his footwear, his steps echoing through the silent house.

His car engine roared to life, and he sped toward St. Anthony High School.

The deserted streets blurred past. Jerry’s knuckles whitened on the steering wheel. The school loomed ahead, its windows dark. He parked haphazardly, adrenaline surging.

Jerry burst through the entrance, the hallway stretching before him.

Susan’s name echoed in his mind.

“Where are you, Susan?”….
