True life story Part 2- The Humans of ABUJA
“That was the beginning of my woes, as at then I wasn’t big on spirituality at all. All I knew was to live a decent and good life.
After a year, I got a job at Enugu and I informed my husband about it. He told me to keep our son at the village with his mom and dad until I settle in properly in Enugu.
I did exactly as he said and moved to Enugu. I kept visiting my son at the village on weekends, twice in a month. Whenever I go there, his appearance, the dirty clothes he puts on and everything wasn’t good to me at all.
I jokingly told my father in-law that I would take my son along with me while going back. He took it seriously and told me that I won’t dare to take his son anywhere. I laughed over it but I gave that comment a deep thought.
One day I visited the village and I learnt that my husband’s younger brother travelled to Germany to see my husband. I was surprised, but what surprised me more was that a week after he travelled, my husband turned to something else.
I never knew that his brother took a picture of my son looking so dirty and showed my husband insinuating that I’ve abandoned his son, I’ve been going around with different men and that he has been the one taking care of my son.
After 2 months, his younger brother came back. He didn’t bring back any letter or gift or money from my husband. The only thing he told me was that my husband instructed him to take my son with him to town where he lives.
I refused and told him that it isn’t possible. I told the principal of my school what I was going through and he adviced me to bring my son to Enugu and enrol him in our school for free.
I went to the village with new wears for my son and kept it in a shop far from our house. I took my son and told them we were going to buy something and we went to that woman’s shop and I changed his clothes.
We went from there straight to Enugu and that night I cried my eyes out. I was busy hustling and teaching other people’s children in school while my own child of 4yrs + cannot even read ABC.
My husband that carries me like an egg gaslighted me for 3 whole years!! I tried all means to reach him but to no avail. I kept going from one church to another to know if he was alive or dead and was spending the money I didn’t have.
All the people I went to, told me he was alive but his eyes has been turned away from me. I became more prayerful and had the faith that he would come back to us and he did 2years later making it a total of 5yrs.
When I heard of his return, I expected a call from him for a week but none came so I went with my son to the village. He had no serious explanation as to why he gaslighted me.
I even saw that he no longer has a room in their house. His younger brother had taken over our room and my husband was now squatting with their last born.
I and my son slept in my mother in-law’s room and she was the one that told me what my husband’s younger brother told my husband when he travelled. She also wanted to tell me something else but couldn’t.
She kept begging me not to leave her son in any condition. She also told me that my father inlaw and her other children do not want my husband to be useful in life.
She told me that she was pregnant with my husband before she met my father in-law. So the whole treatment they’re dishing out to my husband is because my father in-law sees him as an illegitimate child.
She told me a lot of things that I never knew and she told me to try to be very prayerful and know that my husband is being manipulated to his own downfall.
I asked her if she has told my husband about it and she said she has told him but my husband doesn’t take it seriously. She thanked me for being a good daughter to her and started blessing me little did I know it would be the last time I would be with her.
The next morning I just wrote a letter inviting to my house in Enugu for us to talk. I wrote my house address and I left back to Enugu with my son.
I could not function properly that very day. My brain could not process all I heard from my mother in-law’s mouth and there’s no way they could be lies. My husband is her favorite child and she extended that love to me and my child with the purest heart…”
