NEMESIS Part 1 By Palm Wine (Pamela)
I’m Kelvin and this is how I spend my days.
Monday, is work day, full of stress, and seriousness.
Tuesday is less stress
Wednesday is lesser stress
Thursday warming up for the weekend
Friday, yeah! come back from work early, take my family on an outing
Saturday, help do some sanitation with my wife and younger sister, Susan. Go on shopping sometimes,
Play with my little daughter princess. That one, she’s daddy’s eye. I love her so much. She prefers been around me more than her mom bcos I like to spoil her unlike her mum, who disciplines her when she misbehave.
We watch a movie altogether.
Living a happy life is good.
I live with my wife and we have a daughter of 4 years, Princess. My younger sister, Susan came to stay with us bcos I wanted her to further her education here with us, she just wrote jamb.
I’m living a happy life. Life is good when u live with the right people.
I didn’t mention Sunday. Yes Sunday is also one of my favourite day and today happens to be Sunday.
We all went to watch a show.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t wait till the end, I had to rush back home to get something so I asked my wife to drive back with the kids after they are done.
When I got home I saw a piece of note on my door step.
All my information was sent to me, they person mentioned my village, to where I schooled, where I work, where I live almost every thing about me.. And lastly the note ended with “I know u and I’m watching you Kelvin..”
It got me scared a bit. Is someone spying on me?? Who’s this person?
I decided to call my wife to come back home immediately.
As I was about to pick my phone, it started ringing. It was my wife calling with her second line.
“Hello baby, I was even about to call u. Pls u guys should start coming right now” I said
“Baby!! baby ooh! Something just happened. Some gun men attacked us on our way home… An—and I don’t know how it happened, they took Princess and Susan…” My wife cried. She was panting seriously on the phone.
“What! How comes?” I screamed.
“baby I don’t know! They took my phone, I had to use the small one to call u…” she said
“Okay okay, just calm down okay, Hope they didn’t hurt u?” I asked
“No they didn’t touch me. But the took Princess and Susan away… Should I call the police? I’m confused.” She lamented
“Just calm down, don’t hurt urself and don’t call the police. Just tell me where u are and l will come and get u, okay?” I said…
My wife told me that she was already on her way home so I waited patiently.
She got home crying,
“Talk to me what really happened?” I asked.
“I don’t know, they took them both and went away..” she said
“Just like that? hahaha okay baby I know this is one of ur pranks but pls could u stop now and tell me where my daughter and sister are? Caught the prank, this is no longer funny” I said hoping that it was just one of her jokes
“What prank are u talking about!? this is not a joke, I’m serious” she said again, and more serious this time.
“What are u even saying? I left u with 2 girls, How can u tell me that they were both kidnapped and u were left unharmed. U better tell me where my daughter is.
If anything happens to them I won’t take it likely with u..” I said
My phone started ringing, it was an unknown number calling, I picked the call in anger.
“Hello pls this is not the right time to call me, call later!..” I shouted on phone.
A female’s voice came in “Listen up Kelvin, if u ever want to see ur little girl and sister, then u better do as I say” she said
“Pls who are u? Don’t harm them pls I’ll do whatever u say pls… I’ll give u money, whatever” I replied.
“Shut up! U think I need ur filthy money?” she asked.
“I’m sorry, pls don’t hurt them I’ll do whatever u want” I replied.
My daughter meant the whole world to me and my sister is also one who I don’t joke with.
“Good. I need 1million naira. If in the next 24hours u don’t get that money, I’ll caught them into pieces and send their body to u.
Don’t even think of calling the police bcos I’m watching ur every move.” she threatened.
I lived a terrible life in the past so I can’t involve the police in this.
“Okay I’ll not call the police. I’ll get u the money but pls don’t hurt them” I said and she hunged up
1million is not too much, I can get it. I couldn’t tell my wife all that we discussed. I only promised her that I’ll get the girls back.
Within 6hours I was able to get the 1million ready so I called the number and the lady picked. “Why are u calling this line” she asked
“i—i— I have the money already” I said
“Did I ask u to call?” she asked and I said “No”.
“It wasn’t so difficult right?” she laughed
I didn’t understand what she meant by that but I forged ahead. “Pls send me the account number” I said
“Account what? U must be very stupid to think that I’ll collect a transfer. Get me cash.” She said.
This lady must be crazy! Who will give me cash of 1 million in this cashless policy that we’re in.
I started to complain, ranting on phone. “Let me hear from my girls” I demanded and she allowed me talk to them. They sounded fine to me so I felt a bit relaxed even though I was not.
As she collected the phone back I started ranting again. Then she said “If u don’t get that cash, u might not hear from them again”
Her words stroke me. But who will give me 1 million cash now. How do I get this cash…
This person wants to drive me crazy…
I started calling everyone I can think of but to no avail. I can’t believe that in all my contacts, none can be able to bring out cash of even 200k talk more of a million. Now I know how useless some of my contacts have been.
I was already exhausted and hungry, but there was no way I could eat when I know that my daughter and sis are not in safe hands..
I almost forgot. I have a bank manager as a friend, what have I been waiting for.
I called him immediately and asked him if I could get the cash.
“My man it’s going to be hard oh” he said
“Pls I know there must be a way” I persuaded him more.
“Okay, there’s a way but it will cost u 500k to get the 1 million”. He said and I shouted.
“Why are u shouting? U know the cashless era that we now. And do u know how much u are asking for?” he asked
“I know, i know mr manager but is 500k nt too much? I mean, that is half a million oh” I said
“Mr Kelvin there’s no bargaining here. It’s bcos u are a good friend, I wouldn’t have accepted. This is the best can do for u.” He said.
I hung up the call.
I called the kidnapper and gave her a piece of my mind
“This is it! I’m done with this! There’s no where I can get 1million to give u cash” I said
“Those it look like I’m joking with u? If u don’t get me that cash in the next 2 hours I’ll kill them both.” she said and hung up the call.
What nonsense! Let she go ahead and do her worst! In fact I think all these are empty threats. I’m not giving her any dime!.
My wife didn’t understand what was really going on, and I still didn’t want her to know what’s going on. I locked myself up in the room and I was just watching the time.
I didn’t know when I fell asleep.
I jumped up out of sleep, woken up by my ringing tune. My eyes were red, my heart almost jumped out of my body.
In my sleep I dreamt about my girls been butchered in front of me.
I hurried to answer the call but but it stopped ringing. It was the kidnapper lady.
I saw a text message from her that reads
“You have less than 40mins… Check ur WhatsApp message for the location to bring the cash..”
I instantly opened my WhatsApp and saw a new message. I opened it and my heart beat increased faster.
It was a video of my daughter and sister.
I could see the lady putting on a mask and holding a small sharp knife. She asked them to face the camera and beg me to come fast and save them, which they did.
My sister was crying, which made my daughter to cry too.
After they finished talking, the lady took the knife and caught my sister. As I watched I shouted.
I thought that was all, she grabbed my little girl’s palm and caught it. I shouted again
This woman has no heart! My daughter was shouting “Daddy! daddy!”
Then she laughed and said “Hurry Kelvin, time’s ticking…”
I need to save them, she is serious! I have to do something…
I dialed the kidnapper’s number and she picked up.
“You have no heart!” I shouted and she laughed.
“Your time is almost gone. So let’s assume u don’t make it, tell me, who do I kill first? Ur daughter or sister?
“I’ll get u ur money. No one’s going to die! If anything happens to my daughter and sis, I will…” I said and she cut in
“Oh shut up! you will what? huh? U better do the right thing or u will be sorry” she said.
I rushed out of the room and picked my car keys. My wife was confused…
“Baby u are not talking to me, what’s going on?” she asked following me up and down the house
“Where are u going to now?” she asked again.
“Just stay home, u can’t come with me. Don’t go any where. Everything will be fine” I said
I headed straight to the bank.
I demanded to see the manager but they told me that he was busy. “I need to see ur manager right now!” I insisted.
The manager came out and took me in.
Finally I got the money run out of the bank like a mad dog.
I had only 15mins left to get to the location. There was hold up on the road. A vehicle got spoilt.
I came out of my car and quickly helped the driver to push the car aside.
I had only 5 mins left now. A message came in again, “You are running out of time Kelvin..”
I drove recklessly and I arrived to the place 2 minutes past. My hands were shaking, I couldn’t even get hold of my phone. It fell twice from my hands.
I called and she picked..
“I’m there! I’m there! I’m there! I have ur cash.” I said.
“I’ve seen u already. You’re late, but lucky. I almost wanted getting started.” she said
“Pls come and take ur money and let my girls go!” I said
“You failed the test. I told u to come alone, but u came with someone, ur wife…” she said and I looked back only to see my wife coming behind me.
“Unfortunately, ur girls are not there. I gave u a wrong address. In fact I don’t need 1 million anymore, now I need 2 million cash, that is if u still want to see these girls alive again” she said
“Why are u doing this? Who are u? Why are u tormenting my life? What do u want?” I asked, and tears fell from my eyes.
“I am ur past and I’ve come to h*nt u. I can imagine the pathetic look on ur ugly face right now. Be a man! don’t let those tears out..” She said and hung up the call.
I was shattered! I sat down on the bare ground with my right hand on my jaw.
My wife came to me asking what happened and why I was here…
“I asked u not to walk with me!” I shouted at my wife.. “Susan and Princess have been taken already. I don’t want anything to happen to u too.
Look, I’ve done a lot of horrible things b4, I know I didn’t tell u but I think one of them is after us.” I said
“What are u talking about?” My wife asked
I wanted explaining further when suddenly, a vehicle drove by and stopped. The driver ordered me and my wife to come with him….
