My Attitude Part 1 – Emeka Edozie
“Honey, I don’t like this attitude of staying out late with your friends. It is getting me p!ssed off. Moreover, we just got married a month ago”, Chioma complained.
” I see nothing wrong with spending time with my male friends. We’ve been friends even before I got married to you a month ago”, I retorted.
She moved closer to me and placed her head on my chest while stroking my hàirs.
“…. But honey, we just got married and I need you always. I never said that it is wrong going out with your friends. I just want to spend time with you”, she quizzed.
” I don’t know if it will be possible but I will try”, I replied.
I met Chioma at the grocery store where I went to buy few things for myself. We exchanged contact right there.
She was so beautiful with two charming set of eyes. Her nice figure and well arranged dentition could make any man fall for her.
Within 7 months of dating her, I proposed to her and she accepted. My love for Chioma was never in doubt because I made sure she never lacked anything materially.
But,
I couldn’t stop hanging out with my friends no matter how much she complained.
She woke me up in the middle of the night one day.
“Honey, can we talk?”
“Babe, can’t we wait till morning to talk about whatever it is. I am so tired right now because I had so much to drínk at the bar with my friends”, I said weakly.
” Noooooo, it can’t wait till morning”
” Alright, I am all ears. What is it? “
” Honey, we just got married just a month ago. When last did we spend time together as couples? When last did you tøuch me as your wife?. This is becoming unbearable for me”, she said with a teary eyes.
” Babe, I’m so sorry. I will change from today”, I said dismissively.
Grudgingly, we madé løve that night.
I didn’t change my attitude of hanging out with my friends on daily basis till late in the midnight.
Sometimes, when I got home from partying with my friends, I found Chioma already asleep on the sofa. I guess she got tired of always waiting for me every night to come back.
I knew I was hú.rting my beautiful wife with my actiøns. Whenever I decide to stop hanging out with my friends, i find myself running back to them whenever they invite me over for a drink…
I continued till…..
I continued with my partying attitude despite my wife’s plea till I came back from work one evening and met my wife on the bed chatting…
For the first time since we got married, the only word that came out of her mouth was;
“Good evening. Welcome”
It felt surreal because Chioma, my wife would always be the first to hug and grab my briefcase each time I come back from work.
She would always plant kissses all over my face while asking me how my day went but it was quite different that day.
My wife just greeted me casually while concentrating on her phone. I noticed that she was even smiling as she chatted with the person.
I felt my heart skip immediately although I shrugged it off. I didn’t want to entertain any weird thought in my mind.
I quickly went to the bathroom and freshened up before I ate the food she prepared for me.
As I was eating my food, my phone rang.
“Guy, come to Ammatex hotel. Chidi decided to host us today”
” I will be there in a jiffy”, I replied excitedly.
I ate my food hurriedly, wore my Jean trouser and red Polo with a white sneakers to match before I went to our bedroom to inform my wife that I want to hang out with my friends….
Surprisingly, when I got to the bedroom, my wife was totally engrossed with her phone that she didn’t even notice my presence.
“Honey, I want to hangout with my friends. I will come back immediately we’re done”, I tried to plead with her.
To my utmost surprise, she wasn’t really bothered like before.
“Ok”, she said without even looking at me.
I left the house that night but my mind wasn’t at rest.
“Who is my wife chatting with? What was the person even telling her that made her to be smiling sheepishly? “.
I couldn’t stop thinking about my wife’s sudden change of attitude. I was still lost in my thoughts when Chidi tapped me on my shoulder…
“Emeka, what’s wrong with you? We came here to enjoy ourselves. Forget about family issues and enjoy yourself oooo”, he said as he bursted into laughter.
Even though we had much to eat and drink, I still felt that everything wasn’t right.
I could barely concentrate on whatever they presented that night so i had to take permission from them to go home.
I feigned sickness and so they had to allow me to leave that night.
I was determined to go home and find out what brought about my wife’s sudden change of behavior.
Immediately I got home and pushed the door open……
