The Old Woman (Touching Short Story) by Victor Firdance
Anytime I am going to the park for VianceTea delivery, I see this very old woman with a bunch of sticks on her head returning from the farm. Most of the time, I stop greet her and also to give her money just to support her. And she will thank me and wave to me.
Recently I stopped seeing her and I became worried. So I decided to look for mama. After asking around I finally found mama living in a mud house. The house had a thatched roof.
I knocked at the door and what I saw made me break down in tears. Mama was shivering. She had pooed on her body and was smelling urine.
I asked her what the problem was and she told me she wasn’t feeling too fine.
“My sickness don do 3 days now. I no well at all. I no well, sir.”
“Mama what about your children. Don’t you have kids?”
Mama began to cry.
“Pikin wey I carry for my belle born, them say I be wintch. Them say I wan kill them. Say na me make things hard for them. Na for this place I train them o. All of them. Na for this place. But today all of them don forget me. They forget the mama wey train them.”
I couldn’t help my tears. I got some boys to help mama to the car and took her to the hospital where I paid for her treatments and all.
Last night when I visited mama, she asked me to stay with her for a while. She thanked me and prayed for me. Mama blessed me and I wondered why.
This morning the hospital called to inform me that she had died. She died in the early hours of the morning, leaving me sad.
I don’t know her, not even her name but I know the environment I found her can trace her children because she has no phone.
🔥While most people were born without a mother, and wish they had one to love, some others have a mother but never knew her value. They abandoned her to leave the rest of her life in sorrow and pain before she died.
May we not give birth to children who will abandon us when things change for their good.
