Episode 2
We walked to class, I seated on my seat and Nina Sat next to me. Mrs Diglossia was of the opinion that twins seating next to each other brings good luck, people and superstitious beliefs. Mrs Diglossia announced that we have math test. I was really good in math so I was very excited, she shared the papers and we started, piece of cake. I smiled as I answered the questions.I turned to look at Nina, she looked a bit confused. She’s so dumb, Mom would finally pick me over her after this exam. We all submitted our answers to Mrs Diglossia. During break we went to the cafeteria, I ordered burger and French fries. I put it on my tray and went to find a spot to seat down.
I looked around the cafeteria but I couldn’t see Nina. I guess she’s probably crying her eyes out cause she might fail, I found an empty space. I was about to seat when someone
sat down, It was Chacha the school bully, she really has me on her list this semester.
“That’s my spot Chacha”
“Oh sorry, I didn’t see the name Nira on it” she said sarcastically
“Get up this instant”
“I don’t take orders from you”
“But… ”
“Just leave” she yelled and everyone gathered.
“No that’s my spot” I yelled back, she stood up, picked my French fries and dumped it on my
hair then she pushed me to the floor.I fell down and bruised my hand, it really hurt. I felt the tears fall down.
“Princess Nira, are you crying” she teased and everyone laughed. Someone pushed to the front.
“Who did it? whoever hurt my sister should come out now” she yelled. I turned to see Nina standing beside me, her face was red.
Everyone shifted back leaving chacha in the middle.
“I did it. what would you do?” she asked
Nina walked up to her and gave her a slap on her cheek. She wanted to slap her back but she pushed her on the floor.
“Stay away from my sister cause next time you’ll answer to me” she helped me get up.
“Nira are you okay?” she cleaned my face with her towel, I nodded yes.
“Come on let’s go” she held my hand and dragged me away, we went to the school’s bench under a shady tree and sat down.
“Why did you do it?” I asked
“She was hurting you Nira. I couldn’t stand and watch”
“What if you got hurt, then mom would scold me because of you”
“Mom won’t scold me”
“Of course she wouldn’t, she loves you more”
“Mom loves us equally”
“She doesn’t”
“Don’t ever do that again, that girl would hurt you”
“She won’t anything , and I won’t let anything happen to you”
“And how sure are you”
“Cause you’re my twin, we stick together” she giggled
“Whatever” I rolled my eyes “now i don’t have lunch”
“Bere” she handed me my lunchbox “you forget to bring it so I thought I’d bring it for you”
I stared at her in disbelief, what is she up to.
“Go on eat”
I opened the box, it was fully packed. We ate and sat down till the break was over, when we went inside, Mrs Diglossia gave us our papers. I scored 95 and Nina got 50, Mom will finally notice me now.
Finally school was over and mom came to pick us up. we waited for her while she went in to see our teacher. Mom came out some minutes later and took us home.
“You got into a fight at school Nina?” she asked as soon as we came home.
“Mom Nira was… ”mom hugged her
“Baby you got me scared, what were you thinking? Are you hurt? Huh answer me?
” I’m fine mommy ”she hugged her again
“Are you sure?”
“Yes mom”
“I was the one who was hurt Mom” I felt the tears pour, she’s doing it again. She didn’t care “Won’t you ask how I was?”She opened her mouth to say something but nothing came out.
“It’s always Nina, not once have you ever tried to consider me, what have I done?”
“Nira baby it’s not like that, mommy cares about you too”
“You don’t, you’re saying that to make me feel better. Did i do something wrong? If I did then I’m sorry, but why can’t you love me like Nina”
“Nira” she tried to hold me
“Don’t touch me mom. I should’ve just died if I knew that you will never love me”
“Baby you won’t understand”
“Nira” Nina held my hand but I pushed her away, she almost fell. Mom was angry that she slapped me.
“How dare you? do you want to hurt her? Do you have any idea what she’s going through?”
“And me? What about me? You don’t care, you never do. You pretend you love me but you don’t.
“Go up to your room Nira” she yelled
I ran into our room and threw myself on the bed crying uncontrollably. Mom doesn’t love me, she loves Nina more, she hates me.
Dad came back later and we had dinner, mom didn’t spare me a single glance, she focused on Nina.
“Nira are you ok?” Dad asked
“Yes I am”
“Mom Nira got 95 in maths test today”Nina said, mom looked at me and back to Nina
”And what was your score?”
“50, sorry mom I’ll do my best next time. I know I’m not as smart as Nira but I’ll try”
“It’s okay sweetie, what matters is that you do your best.”mom said and she smiled
“I love you mom”
“I love you too baby” mom k!ssed her cheek.
The tears built up but I blinked them away. She doesn’t care that I got 95, even though Nina was second best to me, mom always chose her over me. They say my birth was a blessing, I see it as a curse, being in a place where you’re not needed and having a mom who doesn’t love you at all, I hate them, All of them.
“The award for best student of the month goes to Nira, Mrs Diglossia announced and the class clapped.
“She takes her studies very seriously. I urge you all to be just like her” Mrs Diglossia gave her the trophy.
Best good student? If that ever existed. She collected the trophy smiling. I had won that award 16 times but mom never loved me so what’s the point of winning more? Ever since she slapped me because of her, I’ve never paid any attention to her. She didn’t care that I existed so why should I care about her. in the last month, I’ve burned all the matching
outfits I had with Nina. I don’t want to have any sort of association with her.
The entire class was shocked that I lost my glory, it’s just a dumb trophy anyway. I have started loosing interest in my studies. I was always second best to Nina now, that’s how
mom wants it now.
“Thanks Mrs Diglossia” Nina said after taking the trophy. I won’t cry. I’m fvcking not gonna cry, will mom love me if I did? I think you know the answer to that.
“Nira can I talk to you?” Mrs Diglossia asked immediately after the bell for break was ranged
“Sure”
She gestured me to seat and I did
“What’s going on Nira. Your grades are suffering, you used to be my brightest star in class”
“Apparently it’s not needed”
“Are you having problems? Would you like to talk about it?”
“No. I’m fine”
“Should I tell your parents about it?”
She asked feeling concerned.
“If you want to, look Mrs Diglossia. I don’t wanna study anymore, I just hate it now. I hope you understand?”
“Nira?”
“I gotta go I’m starving”
I stood up “Mrs Diglossia I’ll try to study more”
She smiled, that’s the only way to keep her off my trail.
I went to the cafeteria to buy some snacks. I don’t like bringing home made food to school because mom Cooks it, if I could stop eating her food completely then I would.
“Nira?”
“What do you want?” I turned to look at her. I really can’t stand the sight of her.
“Can I eat with you?”
“Have the entire cafeteria if you want to but for heavens sake leave me alone.” I yelled
“But… ”
“Don’t you get it already, I don’t like you. Not one bit.
You came to take everything away from me and now you have so enjoy it and leave me alone. You took mom and also my spot in school. What else?”
“Sorry”
“Sorry for your miserable life, when we are at home, we’re twins but outside were different people ok.” I took my tray and sat down.
she ran outside,I didn’t care. What more does she want from me. She finally has everything doesn’t she, my own mom sees me as a liability because of her. Mom came to take us home after school. I didn’t want to talk
to her so I placed my device on my ears and turned on the volume. I got out from the car immediately we arrived. I went
straight to my room and undressed myself then I went down to the kitchen to get some orange juice from the fridge.
“Mom I got an award in class today” I overheard Nina telling mom.“wow really sweetie. congratulations honey.”
I took my glass and headed for my room.
“Nira” she called. I stopped half way through the stairs.
“Your sister won an award today” Is she saying it to get me angry?
“Yeah I forgot I need to bow in front of her now”
“What happened, you didn’t bring an award home, you always do.
“You finally noticed that I always brought an award because I didn’t bring one today”
“Nira”
“She got the award already, just throw a party to celebrate. Aren’t you happy that your precious daughter won over the annoying one?”
“Sweetie”
I placed the device on my ears. I was going up when she pulled me back. She took my head set and threw it on the floor
“Don’t walk away when I’m talking to you. I am your mom.
Nira”
“So what? Why are you getting so worked up over nothing. She won just like you always wanted. She’s now the daughter you’re so proud of”
“I love you both Nira”
“You love her” I pointed to Nina “she has always been your favourite. Would you be this happy if I won that award? I’ve won it 16 times mom. 16 good times but you didn’t care so
why should I win more? I’ve finally accepted it.
Don’t rub it any further” she raised her hand to slap me but hesitated
“Just do it, go ahead. I’m already dead so what you do now doesn’t matter.” I picked up my device from the floor and
placed it on my ears.
“Its ok mommy”
“Don’t worry baby. I’ll place your trophy on the case, do you like that”
Nina nodded, I closed the door. I’ve heard enough. I looked at all my trophy. it reminded me of sad memories.
Mom doesn’t care. She doesn’t give a damn about me, she hates me and I hate her more now.
Mom is going to regret picking Nina over me. I sat down to study, just because I lost the award doesn’t mean I won’t study. I’m still the best, I failed everything. I did it on purpose. So mom would be angry and it got her pissed off, that’s what I’ll do from now on.
