THE EVIL TEDDY Episode 16 – The Mystery Man
The court room was packed full , camera lights flashed the face of Micheal , the hall was suspended in a loop , the silence was bone chilling, just like a graveyard , one could hear Michael’s terrified heart beating under his chest , the trial had lasted for a year and six months , he had been wishing that God would do a miracle and bring Jessica to life , so she could tell the court and her parents what had happened .
The record of their phone conversations were cleared from both phones as if it was planned , he breathing could heard from two rows away . He feared for his children, because the Teddy bear had been appearing to him inside the prison making thereat of harming Lilley and Edwards .
“This is my judgement, after going through all evidences provided by the counsel to the plaintiff and defendant , on the case of the attempted murder of Jessica Abbey , brought before this court by the plaintiff Bricks family, and the department of Justice, against George Michael Abbey of number one Abitex close of Katampe Extension Abuja .” The judge paused , Micheal was almost passing out , the silence made him want to stool on himself .
“There have been enough evidences to show that you Micheal was responsible for the attack on your wife , the DNA finger prints evidence provided by the Nigerian police showed only one sets of hands that touched Jessica , and that was you, there’s only one set of shoe print , going in and out of the house , bloody foot print , that was also yours . The weapon of attack had only one sets of print , it matched with the court , and the CCTV camera outside the house showed that they was no intruder that access your property , the security man affirmed that he didn’t hear Mrs Jessica call for help which only meant it was a friendly attack .” Micheal had lost hope at that point, he began to pray to God , he would turn to look at Lilley sitting with her grandparents and aunt to the far back of the courtroom,he could see the pains in her pretty little eyes , he regretted not taking seriously her words about the Teddy .
“I hereby sentence you to twenty years in prison , to run concurrently with the one and half years you’ve spent in prison , you’ll have enough time to think about all your actions , you’ll have enough time to repent, what you did to that poor woman is so heartless , stabbing her over twelve times , you have destroyed her life , it’s only fair that your life be made uncomfortable. The next case !” She said , the clerk called the next case , Michael’s loud cries could be heard all over the court.
Lilley ran to her father and embraced him , as she was being escorted out of the courtroom by the armed prisons officials , handcuffed on both hands , and chained around the leg ,he was wearing a green prisons shirt and trousers ,she embraced Micheal he burst into tears , his in-laws had prevented him from seeing any of his kids , he let out a big cry .
“Daddy am sorry .” Lilley wept hugging her dad . Micheal wept , trembling in pains and regret . “I… I didn’t do this Lilley , you know right ?” Micheal asked Lilley tears falling from his face , he would have peace of mind serving his sentence of he knew his daughter knew he was innocent of the allegations leveled against him .
Lilley nodded .”Your mother is the most valuable possession ,my life most precious antique, I love her more than I love myself baby , I didn’t hurt mummy , I don’t know who did , I think it’s crazy , but I believe your Teddy did .”He said staring at his daughter’s eyes , his peace return to him when he saw she believed him . “Take care of your brother , be prayerful ,we were weak , this is where it landed us , write to me in the prison , and please baby tell you aunt Becky to bring you to the prison to come visit me .” He kissed Lilley’s forehead , as tears fell from her eyes .
“Oga it’s enough come and enter the vehicle abeg , you’re wasting our time .”One of the prison officers barked at Micheal shoving him . Senator Boniface Bricks and his wife were just coming out of the courthouse , when they saw Lilley in an embrace with her father , the patriarch was not happy about that .
“Who let that girl talk to the murderer! Rebecca are you mad! you must be crazy! do you know how much I spent to get justice for your sister !” He barked angrily in the courtyard, Rebecca refused to answer her father . “You must be very stupid frolicking with the bastard that put your sister in a vegetative state! Lilley get into the car now!” He yelled , Lilley wept as she saw her father being dragged and forced into the back of the prisons truck , she cried and ran after him , her grand mother Rose held her hands and yanked her away from the vehicle.
“Let my father go he’s innocent! he didn’t hurt mummy!” She smacked her across the face , the blinding slap made Lilley blind for a moment, she had never been beaten in her life . “Mummy you didn’t have to hit her! she’s just a child !” Rebecca yelled at her mother .
“Who will stop me ! who Becky! is it you ! are you sure you don’t have a relationship with your sister’s husband! that murderer who tried to kill Jessica, and lie on a Teddy bear, you too are out here defending him! I don’t want you to ever mention his name! twenty years was light I wanted fifty years so he would be old and useless when he got out!” He she said , she was dressed in a black lace , a big sunshade sat upon her face ,with a long Brazilian hair .
“Bayo! get this girl into the car!” Rose yelled at her DSS detail , the man wearing a black suit , with a white shirt ,and black tie sized the girl and lifted her up ,Lilley went berserk, trashing and screaming like a demon possessed , she was thrown into the back sit of the Landcruiser Prado bullet proof SUV , she wanted to get down , but the car door would not bulge , at that point she hated her grandparents.
They remained outside talking angrily to Rebecca as her husband stood by her side , when they were done berating her they got into their convoy and drove away . “Becky just avoid your parents , they’ve made up their minds that Michael did it , don’t make yourself their enemy by insisting he didn’t .” He said calmly when they got into the car .
“James I’m the closest one to my sister , even though she kept her family’s issues a secret, I knew there was something disturbing her minds , she told me of the dreams she heard while she was pregnant with Edward, that she saw the Teddy kill her . I think she burnt the Teddy a few months back before the attack , but how all of a sudden the Teddy is still available, and Lilley even though she said the Teddy hurt her mother cannot stay without the Teddy?” Becky asked , her husband sighed .
“All those things you just said are circumstantial, your parents mean to destroy Micheal , stay away so you don’t get dragged to the grave along with him .”James said to his wife , before turning on the ignition, the car roared to life .
Lilley had to be dragged out of the car , the girl was enraged . “Leave my dad alone! Eddie told me he harmed my mum! Why can’t you people ever listen to me ! Eddie is evil!”Lilley screamed inside the compound, her grandparents ignored her , they got to know she was seeing a psychiatric doctor , they settled to get another doctor to help her before she went out of the rail . Eddie stood beside the glass window with a smirk on its was ,as it watched Lilley go berserk, after a brief moment it covered the curtains and went into Lilley’s closet .
“You think am crazy right ! wait and see if am really crazy!” Lilley said and ran up into the palatial home of her grandparents. “Lilley how are you doing ?” Edward’s nanny asked Lilley .
“Leave me alone !” She barked at her , and rushed into her room , she rushed back into the kitchen and took a knife from the kitchen counter . “Lilley come back here ! Bring the knife !” The chefs called after Lilley , she rushed into her room and slammed the door . She began to search for Eddie , she wanted to tear it open and burn the pieces .She began to search for Eddie , but the Teddy had disappeared from where she had kept it .
“Lilley am sorry that I slapped you baby , I was just angry at you.” Grandma Rose said outside Lilley’s room . “Please baby don’t harm yourself we need you. Come and open the door we need to talk .” Rose said . “Go away and leave me alone!” Lilley barked at her grandmother.
Finally she found Eddie hiding in her closet , she grabbed the Teddy and began to tear it from the stomach up , she removed all the woolly stuffs packed inside it , it was only the brown pieces of clothes remaining , opened it’s eyes and laughed .
“You think you can destroy me Lilley ?” Eddie said , all the pieces of wool were crawling like living things into its stomach , when every last piece had entered it’s body , the place Lilley tore open the Teddy covered up . “You see Lilley you cannot throw me away.” Eddie said ,It placed his hand before Lilley , the knife flew from her hands into his hands .
“Lilley am enjoying this game , if that’s how you like it.” Eddie said walking slowly towards Lilley , she was pinned to her door , trying to get as far as possible from the angry teddy , it’s black plastic eyes had turned to pepper red .
“I’ll begin by killing your mum , that whore refused to die , is she a cat ? I stabbed her fifteen times she just refused to die .” Eddie said , as it walked close to Lilley . “This time around I’ll make sure she dies for good , so your father can rot in jail .” Eddie chuckled . “Then your grandfather with his loud mouth , I’ll gut him and remove his intestines , I’ll make him watch me remove them , before flushing them down the toilet , then I’ll kill your nosy grandmother, that old witch that doesn’t want to get old , spending so much money to look young , I’ll tear off her scalp , I’ll peel off her facial skin , and make her see her blood face without the skin, so red and beautiful like blended tomatoes .” Eddie said getting so close to Lilley she struggled to breath , Eddie put the sharp knife against her face , until she started bleeding from a deep cut on her face . “ughmmm.” Lilley cried,as Eddie pushed the knife deeper .
“How does it feel now do you like it ? You cut me open , I let you , you enjoyed it , now allow me cut you too.” Eddie said as it slashed Lilley under the eyes , it slowly walked away into the closet . “Even if you burn me as your wore, and shit head mother did , I’ll come back again , only your death , or a new subject can save you from me , nothing else!” Camila left Eddie it became lifeless once again , Lilley opened the door , and ran into her grandmother’s arms , her white dress had been covered in her own blood .
“Jesus Christ Lilley what did you do to yourself ?” Grandma Rose said, she put her handkerchief over Lilley’s bleeding face , they rushed with her to a nearby hospital to stop the bleeding .
