It was 22 o’clock when Henry drove in. The house was awfully quiet and dark except for his car lights, he wondered what could be wrong. He parked his car carefully at the parking lot, coming down to see what’s wrong. He had a feeling something was amiss and he hurried even more to find out what. Unfortunately, his phone was empty and he had to walk carefully to the door.
………
Hearing his car horn gave Patty joy. Tonight was going to be wonderful and she was going to mock her sister one day. She was going to conceive his child and make him the heir to the wealth. Wow! She thought. She was just going to put on an act and convince him to let her sleep together with him in his bed, but little did she know that all was perfect in thoughts and dreams.
She heard his footsteps and she began wailing. He knocked on the door after several trials and she opened it for him crying and shivering. It was dark and they couldn’t see, he made use of the moonlight shining in through the window and he spotted Patty with stained tear face. Why was the house dark? He wondered.
“Henry, Henry,” she called him locating his arms.
“I am here,” he replied drawing her close to him, “what happened?” He asked and she shivered purposely inside his arms.
“I was waiting for you in here watching TV when the lights went off. I didn’t know where to go and how to make use of the darkness and my phone is in my room,” she explained to him weeping at the same time.
“You should have gone to sleep,” he said to her. He was glad she stayed awake for his sake, but how did the lights go off? He again wondered. He slowly released her and held her leading her to the chair, no one knew his house like he did. It was still very dark and he hoped for some hope to come. He wasn’t feeling hungry anymore and blamed it on this darkness.
……..
His hand had laid on her breast unconsciously while she smiled. She pressed into him shifting closer while he held her tighter. She was glad and she began snoring slowly and quietly, purposefully roaming around his chest with her finger. Was he asleep? She wondered but what is her problem with him sleeping. She trailed it going down to his trousers when the light shone brightly making everywhere white. She was confused because she had planned this well and had put off the lights by herself but why? She said and then she saw him jerk. His eyes opened and she smiled at him while he smiled back.
“The lights are back,” was the only thing he said and he noticed he was too hungry to think about anything other than food.
………
Jenny was exhausted and she sat down on the chair holding back her screams. God, this hurts, “mom,” she called.
Margarita smiled as she attended to Jenny. She had used her powers to save her husband from the snare Patty had laid for him. “It’s okay dear, the baby is intact ,” she said giving her a plate of soup, “this will make you strong,” She added.
Jenny sipped the soup from the bowl and forced a smile. It had taken everything in her to make sure there was light and she had sat down on the chair tiredly. “Thanks Mom,” she said handing over the empty bowl to her, “I am alright now.”
“Thank goodness my dear daughter, you did it,” she said smiling, “now it’s time to rest and await tomorrow for the new test. Remember their goal is to conceive his child and if they do, he won’t survive.”
“Mom,” she called sobbing, “why him? Why did they choose him to die, what did he do to them? He has been simple, he hardly hurt anyone and then this business man just want him down? I just don’t understand,” she added between sobs.
“Well it’s not yet time to understand everything but as long as you fight you will emerge as winner,” her mom said illustrating, “as for now concentrate on your unborn child, I will stand with you all through,” she assured and took her upstairs to rest in her room.
