Pinto The Jungle Girl.
Episode 7
… She grabbed my hands and then held me up.
“Pinto, what are you doing here looking… like this?” She asked running her eyes through my b0dy.
“It’s a long story, Princess Annabel” I said with head bowed.
“You would rather remain here than talk about it?” She asked again and then, I looked up.
“The thing is, Joe my brother was k! dnapped, and the same people later came for me. I was brought to this town only to find out that my father was behind the whole thing. He trades humans for money, and now Joe has been sold to some Indians. When Dad found out that it was his son he sold, he asked them to bring him back but it was too late. The Indian ship had capsized with Joe aboard” I said wiping tears off my face.
“What?!” Shocked Princess Annabel said with a hand covering her mouth.
“Your father, I thought…” She said but I cut in.
“Yes, he’s alive.” I said locking stares with her.
“So, what about you?” I asked, feigning a smile.
“Oh, me!” She said smiling back.
“Nothing much. But, after the palace was attacked, they sh0t my Mom and Dad, and then they blew up the palace. But I managed to escape with the help of Dianna, the maid. I was there in her house for years cos I had no other place to go. She enrolled me in school, and took very good care of me. A few years after, I then joined the force and here I am.” She said smiling.
“You’re lucky” I said.
“Yes, I know” She replied.
“Now, let’s see how we can get you out” She added, and my eyes popped open immediately.
“You can?” I quizzed.
“I’ll try” She said.
“I’ll leave now, but I promise to be back for you” She added and then gave me a hug, and then a plate of food.
Two days later, Princess Annabel came and I was released from the cell without much stress. She took me to her house, it was a very fine fenced bungalow with three bedrooms. She made me something to eat and before bedtime, she sat before me and asked me to tell her all I’ve been through. Well, I did.
“Your father’s diamond, it’s been with me for years now, and I’ve been keeping it safe. But my Dad took it from me on the day I was arrested. He and his wife think that they are both bigger than the law with the kind of business that they both do. “
She smiled and then looked at me.
“You don’t have to worry about that. I will visit your father in the company of my team. No one is above the law” She said and I nodded.
“Please, can you help find Joe, my brother? I’m so very sure he’s still alive”
“I’ll do something. I hope and pray he’s still alive” She said.
Princess Annabel left for work the next morning, and after a few hours, she came back home with some dresses and asked me to put on one of them, that we were going somewhere. She then trimmed and combed my hair, styled it and we both left the house together. We arrived at her place of work after a few minutes and we went straight into her office. After I sat on a chair before her, she raised her head and then said to me.
“There’s someone I would like you to meet”
As soon as I heard that, I adjusted myself on the chair.
“Is it Joe?” I asked with popped eyes.
“No Pinto, not at all.” She said, and then signaled one of the men around who then left the office.
I sat there wondering what was going on. I kept turning and looking at the entrance door eagerly waiting for the guy who left to return in so as to satisfy my curiosity, and then, the door opened. Lo and behold, it was Father and his wife in handcuffs. I turned and looked at Princess Annabel, and then back at them. Father couldn’t get his eyes off me. He continued looking till he finally opened his mouth.
“What happened to you?” He quizzed.
“Transformation” I said with a smile.
His wife turned and looked at him, and then at me.
“Who is she?” She quizzed with eyes still glued to me.
“Well, the jungle girl” I said and she immediately kept mum.
“Pinto, I have arrested your father and his wife. They will both be taken to court for all the charges leveled against them” said Princess Annabel.
“So you see, you are both not bigger than the law” I said to them.
“And the diamond?” I asked Princess Annabel.
“It’s safe” She said with a smile.
She opened her locker, brought it out and then handed it over to me.
“Here it is” She said.
I held it in my palms and then kissed it.
“You’ve done well, and I’m proud of you” I said to her.
“But, what about helping to find Joe? I’m sure he’s still alive” I said dropping a tear.
“We’ll begin the investigation tomorrow, I pray something positive comes out of it” She said…
