LASGIDY LINKS Episode 33 by Adewrites

I left for my office and nothing came to my head again aside from the picture of what I saw. I couldn’t attend to anything. I wallowed in my thoughts. I needed someone to talk to but no one came to my mind.

I couldn’t think straight so I left my office to have some air, I walked around the ministry and settled under a tree. I sat and reminisced over what the DFA said. It was a juicy offer but I wasn’t sure of the aftermath, a lot of “what if” came to my mind.

After back and forth, I decided to take the deal. Since they say everything you want is on the other side of fear. I was ready to take the risk.

I went back to my office and resumed my daily operations, I decided not to tell anyone about it, I didn’t want any advice that would alternate the one I had already.

I called Moses to ask for an update on the deal we had and also asked if I should start working on the assignment he gave me. He told me to give him some time that he wanted to sort out other businesses before embarking on that one. I dialed Davia’s number and she picked up.

“Hi Yemi”

“Hi, I am calling to tell you that I’ll be available any moment from 4pm today if your schedule isn’t tight”

“Oh, that’s good, you’re working at Alausa right?

” yes”

“Okay, my driver will be there before that time, he will bring you to where I am.” she said.

“Okay”

She dropped the call and I was surprised, was she expecting my call before or it was coincident. Sending down her driver was another level I fell for. She obviously knew I had no car and maybe I won’t have access to where she is if I jump on okada.

I didn’t have any need to call these people but my adrenalin was super active and a lot was running through my system. Tinuke’s call came in. I stared at and started wondering what she wanted to tell me this time, I didn’t pick up. She called again so I picked.

“Hello Yemi, how are you?”

“I’m fine”

“Where are you?”

“I’m in my office”

“Please come down stairs, I’m at the park beside housing, I want to show you something.

” I’m sorry I can’t come now, I’m very busy” I said.

I wasn’t actually busy, I just gave that excuse so as not to see her, she was a liar and a deceiver, I didn’t want to have anything to do with her again.

“Yemi, please it won’t take long, please” she pleaded.

I gave it a second thought and went to meet her but didn’t see her car. I dialed her number and she came out of a different car, a white 2013 BMW 328i series.

She stepped out and walked towards me.

“You changed your car?” I asked.

“No I didn’t, it belongs to a friend, you wanna see?” she asked.

I nodded so we went into the car, the interior was made up of red leathers and the AC was breezing cold.

” It’s a nice car, what have you come to show me?” I asked.

“Come on Yemi, don’t be in a haste, let’s go for a drive.” She said.

“I’m sorry I don’t think I have that time, I have a lot to do on my table” I said. She didn’t say anything else, she tossed the car key at me.

“Drive, let me see your driving skill.” She said, it looked so unreal to me, I couldn’t resist the urge to drive it. I got into the car, ignited it and drove out. It felt so good and I started fantasizing how I’ll cruise my Benz. She suggested we go into Magodo, which we did.

“A good car looks good on you yemi and I love the way you handle those steering too, it could turn a lady on” she said.

I was happy driving such an exotic car in an exclusive estate. She described the road I’ll take and I followed her description. She pointed at the entrance of a building.

“Please park there, I want to see someone inside” I did as she said.

“Let’s go together now, you are not my driver so you can’t just sit in the car” she said.

I alighted and followed her. It was a building under renovation, she led the way and I followed. We got into an apartment and there were men working on the interiors. Some were moving around with flower vases while some were doing some installations such as television, Ac and so on.

They greeted her as she went in and she reciprocated, she went around the building and checked. She asked when everything would be set and the boss told her that everything would be completed in two days. She left and I followed her. We got back to the car and drove.

“You want to change your apartment? I asked.

” No I’m not changing it, the apartment is for the person that owns this car” she replied.

I asked why she was the one in charge of it and she told me that because the person is her friend. I didn’t say a word further.

“Do you like that apartment? She asked.

” yes, I love it, its a very nice apartment.” I replied. She smiled.

“Yemi, this is your car and that place is your apartment” she said.

I was shocked to the bone, I pulled the car over and stared at her.

” What did you just say? This is my car? That was my apartment? Oh my God” I exclaimed.

She laughed. I couldn’t hold my emotions together. She made me drive the car to fall in love with it. Also, she made me go to the beautiful apartment so as to ignite my luxurious emotions.

She saw the excitement in me, she followed up with my emotions.

“If you didn’t like it, we could return it and let the apartment out to someone else, this is what I want you to see, you have 15 minute to make your decisions on the deal” she said, got back to the driver’s seat and watched me feeling disturbed.

It was clearly a trap, no one would want to miss that opportunity, it was an opportunity that could be mine if I just say yes.

It was the final battle, and I lost it. I was ready to take the risk. It was obvious they were the real players.

I told her Yes and she brought out the ownership documents that already had my name on them and asked me to sign. She also brought a document on the driving licence and asked me to sign which I did, she kept some copies and dropped some inside the car.

“Congratulations Yemj, you just made the right decision, I promise you that you won’t regret this, I will personally make sure that you don’t, your serviced apartment will be ready tomorrow.” She said and hugged me.

“Welcome to a new life Yemi” were her departing words. A car came by and picked her.

I stared at the car key in my hand, I sat in the car, set back the chair and relaxed.

I have made my decision and it is left to fight anything that is coming afterward.

LASGIDY LINKS Episode 34 by Adewrites

Suddenly, everything went blank. My feet went cold and I felt blood restoring back to my dead left arm that I placed my head on it.

I had gone into a deep, heavy sleep. I went dumb for few minutes before I regained consciousness.

My mental health was badly tampered with.

All I had in my system was the offer. Getting back to my office after I left the DFA’s office, I placed my head on my desk to have a rethink about the offer and I slept off.

It was just as if I was seeing my future, everything looked so real and accurate. The DFA showed me a Benz but Tinuke came with a BMW, the said apartment was on the island but Tinuke took me to the one at Magodo.

I brooded over my dream.

Oh Lord, it was not a dream, it was a hallucination.

I left for the bathroom, opened the shower and washed my face. I went out of the office and stood at the balcony to have some fresh air.

A Few minutes later, I went back into the office and thought about my final decision. I concluded that I wasn’t built for this if not, I wouldn’t think twice before accepting the offer in the first place.

Secondly, this had gone too far on me to be fantasizing to the extent that I had started hallucinating about it, and lastly, I wasn’t sure of the repercussions and I did not want to be declared wanted.

I made my decision and decided to communicate it with the PS.

I stood up firmly with a mind and headed straight to her office, I was on my way downstairs, Tinuke showed up..

“Hey Yemi, what’s up, I was just coming to see you, where are you heading to?”

My mind went racing.

“Oh Lord, not again? What is it with seeing this lady in my dream and later show up after the dream”

“I want to see the PS” I replied.

“Oh, I guess some official stuff right, okay, quick one, I don’t want to take much of your time, I want to confirm if you are down for the deal because I already told my dad that I had come out open to you because there is no reason tricking you into something you might not have interest in, he was mad at first but later reasoned with me, he called me earlier that he showed you the offer but you have not concluded on anything yet, he want to know your decision that’s why I’m here” she explained.

“But I told him already that I would get back to him on whatever I decide on, he didn’t have to send you to me again” I said.

She seemed not comfortable standing on the stairs with me discussing such things, she suggested we move to somewhere private, we moved to the car park.

She continued.

“He didn’t send me to you Yemi, I came because I am your friend. Did you hear that the project has passed through its final stage? Do you know they have sent the budget to the governor? Do you even know that it was estimated to 350milliom naira? Yemi wake up! Things are going behind your back and you don’t even know it. My dad likes you, I like you that’s why I’m doing all these, they will do it without you, another person will be brought up as the chairman and your name will be removed” she explained.

“How did you get to know all these?” I asked.

She smiled.

“Because, I will be the one to take care of your tour to China, the logistics, hotel reservations and your welfare, I am going to China with you so none of the plan is hidden to me” she explained and I got lost in my thoughts.

Why was I made the chairman when they could easily carry out this project without me, was I not meant to sign some documents? It was obvious that these people had a plan B. They are more powerful than I thought, I was being sidelined and with no time, I would be rendered irrelevant because they had gotten what they wanted, which was approval from the governor. I was sad to the bone.

“I am so sorry about this Yemi, I don’t know what else to do that’s why I am coming out blank to you, i have tried every possible means to bring you in, I tricked, lied, set up and even came out with the truth but None worked, I have done my best to get you a best life but it seems you are not getting it” she said.

“Why? Why do you want to get me a better life? Why are you and your Dad so concerned about helping me, tell me Tinuke, I sensed something more than what you are telling me here” I exclaimed.

“We just want to help you Yemi, we just want to help you and nothing more” she said solemnly.

I wasn’t convinced, enough of messing with my head. Their plan and offer was distracting me from both the project and my primary assignment. Having a job that is giving me a token is better than having none.

“As you can see I was on my way to see the PS, I will see you some other time”

I walked.

She called me and exclaimed from afar. “Yemi, don’t throw away this opportunity” I turned on my deaf ears and walked away.

The PS was about leaving the office when I got there. She was surprised to see me, she noticed my disturbed face.

“Yemi, what is the matter with you, you look disturbed” she said and we went back into her office.

“There is something important I need to discuss with you ma, I don’t mean to report anyone or get anyone sanctioned or sacked but I have tried my best to fight it and its not working for me, I need to come out straight to you ma because I don’t know what else to do” I lamented.

She adjusted on her seat, supported her chin with her big fleshy palm and paid full attention to me.

“Tell me about it, you can tell me everything, no one will know you came to tell me anything, you are covered.” she said.

I explained everything that had happened from the beginning till the moment I went to see her. She smiled at some while she got confused at some. After concluding my explanation, She had a deep breath.

“Thank you for bringing this to my hearing Yemi, I am glad you did, you are a good man, I will act accordingly, you have nothing to worry about, as for your hallucinations please see a doctor, it is very important, its a mental health issue that needs to be taken care of, you can go” she said.

I left her office feeling empty and excited. It was as if a heavy burden was lifted off me. I walked freely like a free man. I knew there was no way I was going to engage myself into their plan anymore and I was covered too.

It was closing time, Davia called me to inform me that her driver is on the way, I sped up some work, suspended others and cleared my table. Few minutes later, a number called me and told me she’s from Davia, he was the driver. He described where he parked. I carried my bag and went downstairs.

On my way out, I saw the DFA, DTA, PS and two other people heading to the PS’s office. It was not meant to be, my heart beat faster a bit when I saw them but I shook it off and went to meet the driver.

It was a red tinted range rover I hopped in and to my surprise, Davia was inside the car looking radiant and beautiful.

“Hello Yemi, how was work today” she asked, drew me closer and hugged me. It was the most soothing hug ever, a hug that came after making one of the most dangerous decisions in my life. It came at the right time I needed it.

“We are going to Rumours club at festac, D’banj is performing there tonight, hope you won’t mind sleeping out?” She asked and my smile affirmed her question.

“Tunde, let’s grab some junkies at ICM before we go, I need to keep my mouth moving.” she said to the driver.

This is going to be a good time.

No worries, no pressure. Just me, Davia, Rumors club and D’banj.

Tomorrow will take care of itself.

But today, I am a free man.

Those were my thoughts as I enjoyed the song of Jesse king coming from the car stereo.

“Mo ti gbiyanju, mo to she won mo le shey, mio le wa Ku, Mi o le para mi”

LASGIDY LINKS Episode 35 by Adewrites

We got to the mall, she gave her driver her orders and handed her ATM over to him.

” You can get whatever you like too.” she said.

He, the driver that would be in her late 50s bowed respectfully as he collected the card and alighted. It was left with me and her in the car.

“How did your day go Yemi, this is the first time I’m attaching a face to your name, thanks for the other day, Lagos guys are not that nice, they would have gotten under my pant and extorted me but you didn’t, you placed me on the bed and left without touching anything. Your kind is rare” she poured out her honest mind.

Her smiley expression showed the sincerity in her words.

“You were drunk Davia, what kind of man takes advantage of a drunk lady? I did all I could, if I did something terrible that night we might not be here having this conversation” I said.

She smiled and resumed back to pressing her phone. A call came in and it was a tug of war in between her and the caller. She exclaimed aloud.

“Leave me alone? What else do you want from me? You spend my money extravagantly on those cheap girls and even robbed it on my face, who the hell do you think you are, I will get you beaten if care is not taken, nonsense!” She hissed and dropped the call.

Her eyes had turned red and teary. She sobbed.

“Is everything okay?” I asked.

Tears dropped profusely from her eyes, she reached for the tissue paper in her bag and pressed it softly on her cheeks so as not to clean off her makeup.

“Yemi I’m sorry you had to see me like that, I’m so sorry” she said and snuffed in.

“No I’m not annoyed, are you okay now?” I asked.

She nodded her head as she wiped the tears that had traveled down her nostril.

“He was my boyfriend, he has been spending my money lavishly and even womanizing. All efforts to make him stop went futile. I am tired. I told him I’m done, he’s now threatening me, I don’t know what to do, he was the reason I had to get drunk during the pool party, we had a fight and I left the house to the party, I wasn’t happy that was why I didn’t connect on business level, he is a pain in my ass, now he is threatening me, I don’t know what to do, I am tired of him” she cried.

I didn’t know what to do, I held her hand and percified her, she leaned towards me and rested her head on my chest. She sobbed like an infant. I curled my hand around her tiny waist and rubbed her back.

I sighted the driver approaching. I brought it to her notice, she ignored me and readjusted her head on my chest. That was a sign of “I dont give a damn, I am the boss not him.” He came in and handed over the snacks and drinks over to us at the back. He ignited the car and we moved.

“I feel comfortable this way I am, hope you don’t mind” she said in a cool solemn voice, like a child that found a motherly love.

“Its fine, you can take your time.” I said.

“Tell me about yourself and promise that you won’t lie.” She asked.

” lie, why should I lie about who I am. I am a boy from a village in Ondo State. It is a privilege to make it out of the woods to see the bridges of Lagos. My upbringing was without money nor enough cloth or fancy shelter but with love, integrity, honesty and truth, there is nothing special about me” I said.

“Hmmm… Interesting, I love that, you missed a part” she said.

“What part did I miss?”

“You didn’t talk about your relationship, do you have a girlfriend?” She asked.

I kept quiet for a while. She raised her head and looked into my eyes and asked why I was quiet, I told her nothing and that I was just taking my time.

“No, none that I can remember I had here in Lagos except olufunmilayo, my girlfriend back in the village but she broke up with me when I wanted to leave for Lagos” I said.

“Why?” She asked.

“Because she believes I would see prettier ladies in Lagos and I would forget her, although I tried to convince her that I would come back for her when I’m financially stable but she called it off and there was nothing I could do about it” I explained.

“Only if she knew she just lost a good man to Lagos girls” she said.

We were at festac already but got stuck in the hold up. She brought out a snack and took a bite while still resting on my chest. She raised her hand for me to take a bite too.

“When was the last time you had sex? Tell me the truth please” She asked. I was stunned.

Why will she be asking me such a question? “Well, the day i wanted to have sex with olufunmilayo under the igi araba tree that was just 2 kilometers away from the village, we didn’t know we were rubbing skin with a cobra until it unwrapped itself and scared us away, that was supposed to be my first time but the stupid snake spoilt the day for me” i Explained.

She laughed out loud, the driver couldn’t hold it too, he laughed out loud. I felt ashamed.

” Oh my God, that was funny, you made me laugh out loud, it’s been a while I laughed like this, thank you Yemi. ” she said and rested her head back on my chest.

It was fun with Davia, she felt secured in my arms while I felt loved too.

I never knew what tomorrow had for me, but I made sure I enjoyed every bit of the date with her. I like her already.

We got to Rumours some minutes to 9pm and it was a total dance hall as D’banj rocked the floor with his hits. We danced and drank. I took a little drink so as to be conscious, Davia took the bottle to her mouth and drank hard. I tried cautioning her but she snapped at me. Then I knew I had a boundary, I left her drinking and dancing like a tree messing around in a whirlwind.

It was 1:30 am, the party was over, she was drunk. I led her to the car and the driver took us to a nearby hotel which she had paid for. She jumped on me in the car and started saying jargon.

“I wanted to be a good girl but Lagos boys turned me into a bad girl. I make my money, no one can tell me what to do…”

I stared at her and couldn’t do anything. We got to the hotel and the keys were handed over to us. One for the driver and one for her. The driver supported me and we took her to the room. The driver left for his room. I was there with her, she started vomiting. It was disgusting with a choking odour. I managed to carry her to the bathroom and opened the shower on her, I cleaned the room and cleaned her up too. After the bath, she was fully naked.

Her slim body was easy to move around, I placed her on the bed and covered her with the duvet. I slept on the floor. She was fast asleep.

Looking at her, I saw a broken girl that just want to drink away her pains.

The same pain money couldn’t cure.

How I wish I can help her.
