Engaged To The De@d.
Episode 9.
… Mom fell on the ground and started rolling back and forth, wailing and thanking God for what He has done. I stood there looking around with mouth agape, the whole thing seemed like a dream to me. I then knelt before Mom and carried her up, and she again held me tightly to her chest in a very tight hug, not letting go. She was crying and raining blessings on me, and the only thing I could respond with was Amen while tears dripped down my face.
Do you know how it feels losing someone you so much loved, and then wants you to join him in the land of the de@d, claiming the reason he’s doing that is cos of how much he loves you even in de@th? Is this love or crue!ty?
The Pastor approached Mom and I where we stood with his eyes shut, sweating profusely.
“Child of God!” He exclaimed, and then gnashed his teeth.
“That ring must be returned to its owner, we must make sure of that. Do not be afraid for the b@ttle has already been won. You will go to where he is bur!ed, and you will drop the ring on his grave. Make him see reasons why you guys can’t be together. Also, beg him with all your heart to leave you alone. After that, return to me and let me round this whole thing up with another round of prayers. It is well with you and your household” He said raising his Bible.
“B… But, I’m so sc@red sir. Don’t you think you should go with us? I don’t know how convenient it is for you but I will really appreciate it if we can all go there together” Mom pleaded.
“You see Madam, even if I don’t go with you physically, I’m there with you spiritually. You have my word, nothing will happen to you both. Just keep me updated on any latest developments” He said.
“Ok” Mom said nodding her head.
“If you say so” She added.
“Yes, God says so” He said.
“I will be on my way now. Ajifa, you take good care of yourself” He said and then turned swiftly to leave.
As soon as the people gathered with folded arms saw that he was leaving, they started chanting his name while some screamed “Thank you Sir”. People trooped into our compound to come witness what they had heard cos the news of my rising from the de@d even penetrated through de@f ears. Everyone wanted to see it, not just hear it.
The next day very early, Mom woke me up and made me have a shower. She said it was better we left early to do what was supposed to be done so as to return early.

After dressing up, I picked up my handbag with the ring in it while my heart almost popped out of my chest. My heart started beating faster so I sat on my bed contemplating whether to proceed with the journey or not. But, it was a must go journey. Mom then screamed my name from the living room and I rushed outside to meet her. As soon as we reached the gate, Mom brought out her phone and called the Pastor to inform him that we were on our way, and he prayed with us.
We went to the park, boarded a vehicle and we reached after some hours. We took a bike each to Jerry’s family house where we met his Mom sitting in the compound. We exchanged pleasantries and I again told her why we had come and all of a sudden, I remembered my handbag. I had forgotten it in the car that we traveled in.
“Jesus! My bag!!” I exclaimed.
“I don’t understand” Mom said staring at me.
“I forgot my bag in the car” I said, almost in tears.
“How do you mean?” Mom said standing up.
“Is the ring in it?” She asked in whispers and I nodded. Immediately, she put both hands on her head.
“I am tired of all these wahala. What’s all this? How could you Ajifa? Were you sleeping or something? Now how and where do we go in search of it now eh?” She lamented.
“Maybe we should check the park” I said.
“Chai!” Mom said in exclamation.
“Let’s go now” She added.
“Sorry o but, is everything okay?” Ben’s Mom asked with an innocent stare.
“No… I…” I said stuttering but Mom cut in.
“Yes everything is ok” Mom said feigning a smile.
“Excuse us please, let’s get something down the road” She added.
“Ok, you’re excused” Said Jerry’s Mom, staring at us as we left the compound. But from the look on her face, one could tell that she didn’t believe what we told her that everything was okay.
We rushed to the park, and started asking questions concerning the car that brought us from our destination, and we were told by a lady sitting in an open space in the park carrying a big notebook and a pen that the car had loaded and left.
“I… I… forgot my bag in the car. Please can you give us the driver’s number?” I said in stutters.
“No I don’t have it” The lady said shaking her head.
“I’m d00med!” I exclaimed with both hands on my head.
“For just a handbag?” The lady quizzed looking at me.
“What do you mean just a handbag? Will you keep quiet and mind your business?” Mom fumed in @nger, and the lady gave us this ug-ly stare and then said “Sorry o”.
We left her place and met another driver who was already sitted in his vehicle. We greeted and I asked him about the driver. He agreed to give me his number but asked me to pay him the sum of 2k. Mom paid immediately and he gave it to us.
I took Mom’s phone and called him but he said he found nothing in the car, and then ended the call. I called him back again promising him some amount of money, that I needed just a little something from the bag, and that I would give the bag back to him with every other content in it but that’s after picking that which I needed.
“Are you calling me a th!ef?” He r@ged in @nger.
“My friend get out and stop disturbing me. I said I didn’t see any bag. What’s your pr0blem? If you call this line again God will punish you” He thundered and then ended the call again…
