Engaged To The De@d.
Episode 10.
… I turned and looked at Mom as tears dripped down my face.
“What did he say?” Mom quizzed with hands on her waist.
“He said I shouldn’t call him back” I said in sobs.
Mom let out a deep sigh…
“So, what do we do now?” She questioned looking at me.
“I don’t know o, I’m tired” I said in between sobs.
“Give me the phone” Mom said and I immediately handed it over.
She stared at the screen, tapped it, and then placed it on her ear, it was the Pastor she called. She narrated what happened to the Pastor and the Pastor asked her to give me the phone so he could talk to me. He prayed for a few seconds, and then rounded it up with “You will find the bag”. And I immediately responded with “Amen”. I thought it was just a prayer.
I went to a corner and I cried out my eyes, asking God to please show Himself. Mom came to me and pulled me up, patting my back at the same time.
“It is well, I believe God will perform His miracle” She said and I nodded.
We walked just a little distance from the park and we saw what left both of us in awe. We saw a guy standing before this wheelbarrow full of handbags, ringing a bell and at the same time screaming “Buy your quality handbags, it’s not expensive”. Lo and behold, my handbag was just at the top of the other bags. I rushed to him and grabbed my bag. I turned it around and took a proper look at it to make sure it was truly mine.
“It’s mine now!” I said to Mom in exclamation.
Mom collected it and turned it around as well.
“Yes it is” She said.
I then opened it to see if my phone and the other things I kept inside including the ring were still in it. But, the bag was empty.
“There’s nothing inside Mom. ” I lamented again in tears.
“The ring is not here and my phone” I said in between sobs.
“Oh, I kept the ring in the smaller zip, let me check” I added, attempting to unzip it.
The man stood there staring at Mom and I with folded arms and with his mouth bent to the sides.
“Abeg drop this thing, my friend!” He thundered, grabbing the bag from me.
“If I plaster your face with a slap!” He threatened raising his hand.
“Which bag is yours? Are you ok? What do you take me for? Oh, you’re 419’ers” He said aloud.
Mom looked around to see if people were watching us.
“Please, calm down” She said to the man, rubbing her chest.
“Calm down for what? He stole my bag” I r@ged in @nger.
“Shut up!” Mom barked at me.
“See Madam, please take your daughter out of here cos if you pr0voke me the more, I will scream and people will gather in no time, and I will tell them that you both are th!eves” He fumed.
“No please” Mom said waving her hands.
“Ok, we want to buy the bag. How much is it?” Mom added.
“Ok, bring 20k” He said looking aside.
“What? My own bag?!” I exclaimed.
“Thuπder f!re that your mouth. Oya leave this place” He r@ged and Mom again started to calm him.
“Please, 20k is too expensive for me. Try and reduce the price for God’s sake” Mom pleaded.
“See enh, Madam, I’m only doing this cos of how calm you have been, not cos of this your daughter here that’s doing oversabi (know it all). Otherwise, I wouldn’t have even given you an audience. You can pay 10k, I have tried” He said with his gaze fixed on his goods while rearranging them.
“Please sir, it’s just 5k I have. Please help me” Mom pleaded again.
“Oya bring money sharp sharp” He said.
Mom paid him immediately and he handed the bag to us. As soon as he did he started ringing his bell again, calling on buyers for his goods. I was going to reopen the bag and check the smaller zip for the ring but Mom asked me to wait till we were out of there. As soon as we left there, I reopened the bag, and then the smaller zip. Lo and behold, the ring was in there. Mom and I both sprinted back to Jerry’s family house but the Mom had gone inside. We went to her and then told her what we were there to do. She disagreed at first, saying that nobody pre informed her about what we were there to do, and that Jerry too had been appearing to them telling them not to consent to whatever I was there to tell them. But recently they stopped seeing his ghost, wondering what had happened. Mom and I pleaded, but she said she needed to summon their kinsmen so they would be witnesses to the whole thing. Mom turned and looked at me with a sigh, with a hand under her jaw.

“Ok” She managed to say.
Jerry’s Mom got up and left and Mom quickly brought out her phone and called the Pastor to tell him what was going on.
“Don’t worry, God is in control” He said.
After a few minutes, about six old men with red caps entered the compound. They were made to sit, and I was asked to narrate the whole thing again. I did and they blatantly refused, telling me that they don’t allow such in their place, and that I should leave with the ring and not drop it on the grave. Mom and I pleaded but they refused.
Mom excused herself, and then told me to follow her outside the gate. Mom again called the Pastor to inform him, and he said this prayer that almost brought down the sky, and then asked us to return to the compound. We were almost giving up, but just had to obey him. We did, and sat on our chairs but something strange happened. All the men we left on seat including Jerry’s Mom had froze. They were there with their gazes fixed and unable to utter a word.
Mom and I became so sc@red, that we again ran out of the compound. Mom then called the Pastor, her hand was visibly shaking.
“Can you both hear me?” Asked the Pastor.
“Yes sir” We responded.
“Now, go back into that compound and go drop the ring on the grave. Then leave that place as soon as you do” He said.
Mom and I rushed back in, went to where Jerry was buried and I dropped the ring. I was so sc@red that I started trembl!ng. I begged him in sobs to leave me alone, and that we were worlds apart now. And then, Mom and I hurried out of there looking around. We were just by the gate when this heavy breeze started, and the clouds gathered in no time. It started drizzling and in no time, there was a heavy downpour that rained f!re and brimstone. But, it didn’t stop Mom and I. We jogged under the heavy rain to the park, and Mom paid a driver to take just both of us back home without loading more passengers, cos, she was so sc@red that Jerry’s kinsmen could trace us to the Park as soon as they regained themselves.
We got home successfully, and since that time, the ghost stopped t0rmenting me.
I have come across so many men asking for my hand in marriage. But, I’m so sc@red of giving love a chance again.
The end.
