Dora And The Water god!

Episode 24

… “Good day” The person in white greeted.

Stepping out of my room with eyes still glued to him, I had never seen that face before.

It was a man in his 40’s, tall, dark in complexion and carrying an afro hair.
He was wearing a white long sleeve top on a pair of white trousers. He was staring at me and smiling like we had met before.

“Who are you?” I finally voiced out.

“You don’t know me, but I’m from Neon” He said with a smile.

“Neon? Ok??” I said in a hurry.

He dipped his hand into his pocket and brought out something wrapped in a black nylon.

“Take” He said, stretching forth his hand.

I took it from him, untied it, and lo and behold it was a bundle of money. I smiled and was putting the black nylon under my armpit when he voiced out again.

“He said to tell you congratulations in advance” The man said with a smile.

“Congratulations in advance? For what?” I asked smiling, with my other hand on my waist.

“I only delivered a message. Take care of yourself” He said and then turned, walking away.

I shook my head as the congratulatory message kept ringing in my ear, wondering what Neon was up to this time when all of a sudden, I heard the man’s voice again from afar but his message wasn’t clear enough.

“I can’t hear you” I screamed.

“Leave your door open tonight” He said at the top of his voice but I refused to answer him when I finally heard him. Instead, I stood confused and at the same time, wondering why he said what he said.

“What does that mean?” I asked myself while returning in.

A few hours later at dusk, it started to rain heavily. I was having this back ache and lower abdominal pa!n that I retired into my room to rest a little.

I usually locked my doors since I came into the village, I don’t know why but my door was always locked whenever I was in, while my maid and guard each had their own room.

That evening before lying down to rest, I was going to lock my door from the inside but I immediately remembered what the stranger told me. I was skeptical at first, thinking to myself if the man actually meant well or otherwise.

“Ev!l does not survive here, so let me leave the door open like he instructed” I said to myself, and then laid down.

I woke up later in the middle of the night with extreme abdominal cramps that I couldn’t even get up or move my legs, my legs became so numb. It was still raining heavily and I started to scream my maid’s name but she didn’t hear me. I screamed my guard’s name too but he didn’t hear me.

I tried all I could to get up but couldn’t and instead, the pa!ns became so intense.

“Help!!!” I screamed at the top of my voice with all my strength but no response from anyone.

After about 30 seconds, three middle aged women walked into my room each carrying a calabash full of water with different leaves in them.

As soon as I saw them I was shocked while my eyes popped open, as my heart began racing so fast.

“Do not be afraid, we are midwives” They said, approaching me.

“Midwives?” I asked, groaning in p@in.
I never would have imagined that I could be in labor after 7 months of being pregnant, I was expecting the baby at 9 months.

I was in so much pa!n that I couldn’t wait for them to put an end to whatever was making me feel that way without even bothering to ask them how they knew that I was in labor.

They surrounded me, picked a wrapper from my bag just beside the bed and then spread it before me on the bed.

I was groaning in pa!n that I started begging them to please bring the baby out.

The woman who stood directly before me picked some leaves from her own calabash of water, sprinkled it on me and immediately, the pa!n disappeared but there was something stuck in-between my l*egs.

I became so scared, and the woman who was standing before me came close, and started rubbing my stomach and all of a sudden, the baby popped out into the woman’s waiting and already spread palms without any pa!n.

As soon as the women saw the baby, they looked at each other and immediately fell on their knees.

I was shocked and curious to know why they all fell on their knees so I stretched my neck to look at the baby and lo and behold, her eyes were as shiny as the sun…
