… As soon as she stepped in, I hid the food behind me.
“Who have you been talking to?” She asked looking around and to my surprise, she didn’t see the little girl.
“No… nobody. I was just…talking to myself” I stuttered.
She turned looking around again, and then jammed her hands three times.
“I don’t think I can continue staying in this house with someone like you. I don’t even understand the kind of human that you’ve become. Ever since you returned from the land of the land of the dead you have been acting like a ghost and also an ev!l spirit. Isn’t that too much for one person?”
“Mama please, I’m not in the mood for this right now. No offence but I’ll appreciate it if you leave my room please.
“What is that thing you’re hiding behind you?” She asked stretching her neck to look at it.
“Nothing Mama” I said blocking her view.
“That’s your business. I’ll have to report you to the king cos living here with you gets me sc@red by the day. I just can’t do this anymore” She said stepping out.
I bolted my door immediately from the inside as soon as she left, and I turned now facing the little girl.
“How did you do it?” I quizzed with mouth agape.
“Do what?” She asked smiling broadly.
“I mean, my stepmother, she didn’t see you. How on earth did you do it?”
“Well, I’m not of this world so I can decide whether to be seen or not”
“You’re not of this world? Where exactly are you from? And, Neon! Wait, did you say that Neon was your father?”
She nodded sporadically.
“And I your mother?”
She nodded again.
“Are you trying to tell me that you’re my daughter yet unborn if I may understand you?”

“Well, yes” She said and I immediately dropped the food.
“Wow, this is getting so interesting. So, where are you from and what’s your name?”
“I’m not from this place, I’m not of this world, my world is different from yours. And as for my name, you will give me a name when the time is right”
“Ok but, you know Neon?” I asked and she nodded.
“And he gave you this food?” I asked and she nodded again.
“Oh, you’re from the same world?”
“No we are not, but he brought me to you”
“So, you’re my daughter right?”
“Yes”
Immediately, my eyes became so wet and teary that I had to drop the plate of food and then spread my arms wide for a hug.
We hugged and she then told me to eat. I picked up a spoon and then sat on the bare floor, almost devouring the food but I paused and invited her to come sit beside me and eat but she refused, and still refused after I tried forcing her.
Well, she was there till I finished eating and we again resumed talking.
“Can I ask you something? ” I said looking at her.
“Of course”
“Who is Neni?” I asked.
“Can you tell me anything about her? Well if you don’t know no problems, I just thought to ask you”
“Run from her” She said with gaze fixed.
“What?!” I asked in exclamation.
“Who is she?”
“Neon’s mother wanted him to marry her but it didn’t work out” She revealed.
“You’re joking right? But, how come? Neon is the only one in the river, so,how come?”
“You see, when Neon’s parents were alive, they made friends with the living beings in the other neighboring river, there they saw Neni and had her betrothed to Neon when they were young. As they grew older and after Neon’s parents died, Neon’s interest in her died the moment he set eyes on you singing by the river. Now Neni and her mother are out for revenge. So she making friends with you is all a trap ” She said…
