Dora And The Water god!

Episode 13

… My stepmother and her daughter let go of me all of a sudden, and then they started to look around.

“What just happened? Where’s the cup?” She probed as she continued looking around.

Her daughter already reached the entrance door as she stood there visibly shaking.

” What just happened?” My stepmother asked now staring at me, looking so fr!ghtened.

“I… I don’t know o” I said also looking around.

“This girl is p0ssessed. Dora you’re p0ssessed ” She said at the top of her voice.

I tried saying something in defence but the more I opened my mouth the more I stuttered.

“I can’t stay here” Her daughter said flaunting the entrance door open, as she dashed out of the house without looking back.

Her mother too followed her leaving me all alone in the living room.

I stood there wondering what just happened, and what a little girl in a white wrapper was doing right in our living room, and to crown it all, she saved me.

I tried relating it with Neon but it wasn’t tallying and then, I decided to go to the river to see if Neon would come out to see me this time.

My stepmother and her daughter were both sitted on the veranda outside the house when I opened the entrance door. But as soon as they saw me, they stood up all of a sudden and almost ran out of the compound. I pretended as if I didn’t see how fr!ghtened they were, and I walked out.

I hurried to the river, sat by it and began to sing all I had been through since the last time I saw Neon.

I sang and sang but he refused to come out and see me. I was not only disappointed, I was heartbroken.

I sat there for almost two hours and I decided to leave when it was going to rain.

I stood up and I walked slowly through the narrow river path.

I heard footsteps behind me, and I turned multiple times to see what it was but I found nothing, and I continued walking again.

“Mother!” I heard all of a sudden.

I looked back swiftly as soon as I heard that and lo and behold, there the little girl who saved my life was.

I screamed and almost took to my heels.

“Wait!” She screamed with a hand stretched forth.

“Mother” She called again.

On hearing that, I turned and looked around to see if it was another person she meant but it was just the two of us.

I was so sc@red that the whole of my b0dy started shaking.

“Mother” She called but this time, with a smile.

“Who…are…you? Did you…miss your way? I…I don’t think that…I don’t think that your mother is anywhere around here”

“You are my mother, Dora” She said still smiling.

“What? But…how?” I asked.

“Only when the time is right” She replied.

“I don’t understand” I said with eyes still glued to her, waiting for her to spill the right words that I needed to hear.

“Like I said, only when the time is right” She repeated.

“You will not have to suffer anymore, I am here now ” She said.

“Please don’t get me more confused. Who really are you?” I asked.

She smiled again, and then disappeared before my very eyes.

I screamed and then ran home as fast as my legs could carry. That day it rained heavily but not even a drop over our house, like it happened the other day.

The following morning when I woke up, it was on a market day. I was so famished, it was then I remembered that I didn’t eat anything all through the previous day.

I still had the money I found in the bucket with me so I thought of going to the market to get a few things.

Arriving the market, I noticed that everyone wanted to relate with me. All the shops that I went to to purchase things didn’t take money from me. I had never been so shocked all my life.

I carried the things I was given in a polythene bag and on my way back home, I started wondering what was going on.

As I walked through this bush path, a man approached and then offered to help me carry my load. I initially refused but when he persisted I gave it to him.

He was walking before me and all of a sudden, I sighted a necklace on his neck, exactly like the one Neon gave to me…

To be continued.
