CHAPTER 5
AMANDA’S POV
Two days later; I was granted a month leave thanks to Michael’s help. He kept his promise of always being there for me, and I can’t thank him enough. I made plans with the girls to have lunch today because I am leaving for the village tomorrow. I really can’t wait to tell them the news; I know they will be shocked. I picked up my bag and headed for the restaurant where we are to meet. I got there 5 minutes late and met Ujunwa there.
“Hey babes, how are you doing?” I asked with a smile as I noticed she was looking radiant and beautiful.
“I am fine, and you? Wow! You are looking gorgeous and breathtaking,” she said as she stood up to hug me. We sat down, ordered, and began to chat while waiting for Miranda.
“How is work and our in-law Somadimna?” I asked her.
“Work is fine, Somadimna is fine, but my dear, I am getting tired of the relationship. He can hardly meet my needs, and he’s talking about building a house before marrying me,” she lamented. I looked at her and smiled; Ujunwa isn’t from a wealthy home but she loves an expensive life and hates to work so much. Somadimna loves her so much and spoils her way too much. I sipped my drink and cleared my throat.
“But babes, you know Soma is trying so much for you. Why don’t you give him…
“Time for what?, time for what babes? Am I getting younger? Why can’t he be like his mate and make more money? See, I want a lavish wedding; I want it to be the talk of the town. He should suspend building a house for now and let’s plan our wedding,” she snapped while rolling her eyes before taking a sip of her drink.
“But can’t you consider…
“No buts, Amanda. I have made up my mind, and that’s final. Don’t worry; I am planning to leave for a better man who can give me what I want.
“Why don’t you…
“Hey babes,” we turned to see Mirabel approaching us.
“Hey baby girl,” we greeted and hugged her. We settled down and placed our orders. We chatted away, then I decided to tell them the reason for our meet-up.
“Ahem! Babes, I have something to tell you; I am going to the village tomorrow,” I said.
“WHAT! What for?” they asked in unison.
“Well, our king is dead, and the new king will be coronated 3 days from tomorrow,” I replied with a sigh.
“Oh! Well, how does it concern you?” Ujunwa asked with a roll of her eyes.
“Well, the new king has to choose a bride, and I must be present in the village for the coronation, and all maidens must be a virgin to be his wife,” I said.
“Are you serious? Wow! This new king is lucky. Well, there is no problem; safe journey and remember to give us the full gist; we don’t want to miss any details,” Mirabel said, and Ujunwa nodded in agreement. I laughed and said no problem; I was ready to give them the full gist.
We chatted away full of smiles and laughter. Well, I noticed it was time for me to go so I could prepare finally for the journey ahead tomorrow. I bade them goodbye and made for the door, promising to call them once I get to the village.
MIRABEL POV
I watched her as she walked; I couldn’t help but feel jealous. Why does she get the best things in life—her job, a rich admirer, now the potential of being the king’s bride too? Now, that’s so much. Why can’t she help her friend out? All I want is Michael; well, I am going to get him by force. I smirked as I thought out loud.
“You are not the only one that feels jealous about this; why does all the good things go to her? She is better than us in all aspects, and yet those are not enough for her. She is still going for more,” Ujunwa said with a sigh.
“Well, you can see now; she is enjoying her life, and she can’t share with her friends. Do you believe I met her two days ago in a restaurant with this rich guy, and he is so handsome?” I said as I took out my phone and showed her the pictures I took the other day, which I regretted instantly.
“Wow! This guy is so handsome and far better than Somadimna. I am going for him; I am sure he will like me because I am beautiful and curvaceous; I am all a man wants. So, Amanda had such a rich admirer, and she is advising me to remain with Somadimna? Well, that won’t work; I am going to get him,” she said while ogling Michael’s pictures.
“Don’t even think of it; Michael is mine, and I won’t have you ruining my chances of being with him,” I snapped at her.
“Don’t you have Emeka? Well, sorry to burst your bubble; I like him, and I am going for him, and there is nothing you are going to do about it,” she said as she hissed in my face.
“Be warned, stay away from Michael; he is mine, or else I am going to deal with you,” I said as I picked up my bag and stood up to leave.
“There is nothing you are going to do,” she laughed.
We shall see about that. I smirked and left.
