A PLACE OF TERROR Episode 5 – Blessing-Enejo Abrahams Elleywrites

… My eyes popped open all of a sudden. I didn’t know how best to react to what I had just seen without calling peoples attention.

Goosebumps filled the whole of my body and then I started to shiver.

Okpa’s already noticed what was going on. He was going to put another scoop of the food into his mouth when he paused all of a sudden.

“Victor, are you sure you’re ok?” he questioned.

I looked at him and started to send him a message with my eyeballs but he still wouldn’t comprehend.

“Why are you dimming your eyes like that? I never knew you had eye problems” he said still eating from the food.

“Guy eat now” Osas said rolling the morsel of fufu in his hand.

Then all of a sudden, all the food I had eaten into my stomach forced its way out while some passed through my nostrils.

“Victor! Victor!!” Osas called while Okpa’s stood behind gently patting my back.

“I … I want to return back to the house” I managed to say.

“Ok ok, let’s take you home then” Osas said picking up his cap from the rubber table beside us.

As soon as we turned to leave, the owner of the restaurant walked in.

“Wait o, who will clear this mess that you people have made? And who will pay for all these cos it is seems you guys are already leaving” she r@ged.

“Sorry ma, let me clear it” Osas let out and then started to clean the mess.

After he was done he paid for our food and we left for our place.

“Guy how far now? Are you pregnant or something? Why did you throw up like that?” Osas queried.

I was sitting on the bed dumbfounded and at the same time thinking of how best to put it to them what I had seen.

“Talk now! Why are you just sitted there staring at a spot like an exhausted dog?” Osas yelled again.

I sighed…

“This guy is shivering o” Osas said all of a sudden, hurried up from where he sat and then sat beside me.

“Guy what is it? Talk to us” he added putting his hand round my shoulder.

I looked at him and tears welled up in my eyes.

“I saw the same birthmark on Dare’s lap on one of the piece of meat at the restaurant” I said in between sobs.

“I don’t understand. How do you mean? ” Okpa’s questioned

“Are you sure you haven’t stolen my ganja from my bag? Cos what you’re trying to say does not even make any atom of sense.” said Osas

I raised my head and looked straight into his eyes.

“Dare had a birthmark that looked like a very tiny cross on his lap, and it was the same mark I saw on the piece of meat I was served”

“That’s a lie! I don’t believe you!!” Okpa’s exclaimed.

“What? Are you serious about this?” Osas questioned with his gaze fixed to mine.

I nodded..

Osas started to cough all of a sudden. He started to dip his middle finger inside his throat but nothing came out, then he rushed to his bag and brought out a wrap of he-mp, lit it, and started to blow out the smoke.

“Ganja please, help me forget all these. I know you will. I mean, how can?” he lamented dipping it into his mouth again.

“What? Lord please let this not be true” he said busting into tears and started to rub his head.

“Does it mean that, Dare, is no more?” Okpa’s questioned rhetorically as the three of us sat there on the bed crying our eyes out.

A week later the state coordinator sent for us and we went there. On our way back we saw this very young lady selling corn by the road. Okpa’s became her regular customer. Osas and I warned him severally to stay away from her but he wouldn’t listen. He would always go to her every day by the road to do God knows what.

He was caught making out with the lady in her room one day by the lady’s father. As soon as the news reached Osas and I, we hurried there to beg on his behalf but the girl’s father was bent on dealing with him.

Okpa’s was tied down like a common cr!minal. He had cried his eyes out. His eyes were already so red and swollen.

“In this Ekpo? You have the nerves to do this with my daughter?” he thundered.

We even sent a message across to the state coordinator but he refused to show up. When the man got tired of our plea, he chased I and Osas out of there.

“Please don’t leave me here” Okpa’s begged in tears but there was nothing we could do.

I looked back, he was staring at us and whispering the word “please”. I busted into tears and wanted turning back but the man chased me out with a plank this time.

“Guy lets leave here please” Said Osas.

We left there for our place and we both sat on the floor as soon as we reached crying our eyes out. We were like that till late night. Osas brought out his ganja again and took few wraps of it, and then slept off in no time.

If not that I already made a promise to my mom not to ever have anything to do with it, I would have joined Osas to take it so as to forget the things playing in my head.

I knew Okpa’s would return home. I waited and waited with back leaned on the wall and a pillow on my lap. And all of a sudden I heard a knock.

“I knew he would return home” I whispered as I rushed to have the door open.

But as soon as I did, I saw a head-less human with bl00d dripping from his neck down trying to find his way into the room…
