CHAPTER 6

Cassy…
Cassy, I loveeee you…
I’ve always loveeeed you, Ernest said staggering towards Cassandra in tears. He was stinking of beer and he fell on the cushion muttering words.

Cassandra stood looking at Ernest and tears rolled down her cheeks seeing how drunken and heartbroken he was.

Cassandra, my friend here really loves you. Just look at him, have you ever seen him like this before? He is heart broken. Please consider my friend Cassandra. I’ll leave you both to it, George said and walked out of the house.

He walked back in and Cassandra was still standing and crying. She was looking at Ernest and tears rolled down her cheeks. Don’t forget to lock the gate George said and walked out of the house again.

Cassandra helped Ernest up from the cushion where he was lying and took him to his room. She removed his shoes and lay him down properly on the bed. She was about to leave when Ernest held her arm. She looked at him and he was already sleeping. She removed his hand and left the room. She went outside and closed the gate.

She walked back into the house, then into her room. She was looking around and the tears couldn't stop flowing down her cheeks. She had a shower and changed her clothes. She went to the bed , she lay on the bed but couldn't sleep. Different thoughts kept sweeping through her mind. She slept off after soaking her pillow with tears because of the decision she was about to make.

The next morning, Ernest woke up. He remembered all that had happened yesterday. He didn't know how he was going to face Cassandra. If only he knew he would have opened up earlier when his friend had suggested it to him. Ernest decided he was going to tell Cassandra how he felt and apologize for taking so much time. He can't let someone take his struggles why he dies in silent.

He stood up and went into the kitchen where he finds Cassandra most times. Either she is making breakfast or sorting things in the kitchen. When he got to the kitchen, no one was there. He walked towards the door of Cassandra's room. He heaved heavily then knocked on the door.

 No one answered...

He knocked again and no one answered…
Ernest called out Cassandra’s name and still there was no response. That was unlike her, she doesn’t sleep that deep Ernest thought. So he tried opening the door and it opened wide on its own. No one was in the room.

Ernest came out of the room and ran outside calling out to Cassandra but no one was answering. Ernest remembered he had seen something like a piece of paper inside Cassandra's room. So he ran back to check. Then he saw a neat piece of paper placed perfectly on the bed with a pen on top.

It read….

    Dear sir...

I'm so sorry and I write this in deep pains. I have always been there waiting for you. I gave you signals but you ignored them. When ever I touched you and it felt like there was a spark, you always pull away. I loved you but I was scared of showing it. You were my helper and I couldn't stand loosing you. But now , I am in love with Jaxon. I and Jaxon made a promise not to leave each other.

You're late, you're just too late sir. I don't want to break the promise I had made. I know you sacrificed a lot for me. I'm what I'm today just because of you sir. That's why I write this in tears, I don't want you to keep getting hurt by my presence.

I know I have broken your heart deeply, please find a place in your heart to forgive me.

                               The girl you helped
                                 Cassandra..

The piece of paper slipped off from the hands of Ernest and fell to the floor. Ernest looked and noticed that some of Cassandra's clothes were missing from her wardrobe. He sat on the floor and sweet memories he shared with Cassandra came rushing into his mind like a wild flood..

He remembered the very first day he met Cassandra. He had fallen in love with her on first sight. When Cassandra had come from the city newly and knew nothing about some kitchen utensils, he remembered teaching her how to use them playfully. He remembered the time he spent helping Cassandra to study especially when she had exams. He usually sacrifices his sleep just to help her study. Ernest remembered the romantic moments when Cassandra touches him but he removes his hand slowly trying not to create a connection. Just because he wants her not to be distracted during her early school days.

The more Ernest thought about the past the more hurt he was.

” I am in love with Jaxon. I and Jaxon made a promise not to leave each other.”

That particular line made Ernest to cry out in deep pains. He had spent five ( 5 ) years grooming Cassandra for someone else.

Ernest stood up like a man insane. He couldn't take the pains anymore. He went straight towards his room slowly, he opened his wardrobe and brought out a rope.

He opened his drawer and brought out a pen and a paper and started writing...

The more he wrote, the more the tears from his eyes made the paper wet.

He took the rope and tied it on a spot in the célling. He stood on a little side stool and placed the rope on his neck. Tears rolled down his cheeks in deep pains. He pushed away the side stool with his foot.
