CHASE
CHAPTER 5
We both froze, but only for a moment. I was frozen to my core, thinking that it was one of Mr. Sayou’s gunmen who had come to search her house, or possibly a village sympathizer. She, however, seemed to be frozen for another reason. It seemed she knew who was knocking.
“I am finished.” She spoke fearfully.
“How do you mean? What do you mean?” I asked.
“I know who’s knocking.”
“Who’s it?”
“My boyfriend.”
To me it was a welcome relief that the knocker was just her boyfriend. I was afraid that it could be someone worse.
“Stephanie, what is wrong with you? What is taking you so long to open the door?” The voice asked again. This time in anger.
“What are we going to do?” She asked me, looking directly in my eyes for support.
“Are you really sure it’s your boyfriend?”
“Yes,”
Anyway, just to be sure, go and take a look at who’s really knocking. I mean go and peep first.” I advised.
“And then what?” She asked.
“And then, I will tell you what to do next.”
She went to the door, and peeped through a small crack in the door, turned around and nodded at me, confirming that it was indeed her boyfriend. I motioned for her to come back to where I was standing. She tiptoed back gingerly because she didn’t want her boyfriend to know that she had come to the door to peep.
“What do we do?” She asked as soon as she came closer.
“He’s just your boyfriend, na. Let him come in. You can tell him I am just a friend, a harmless one.” I advised.
“Are you alright? He would never believe. What kind of a normal friend is that that he has never seen? You look strange. You don’t look like one of the village folks. He would easily figure that you are a stranger from the city, and the next thing is that he will start saying that you are my boyfriend from the city.” She explained.
“So what? And then what? Am I not worthy enough to be your boyfriend? Let him find me, no problems. If he breaks up with you, I will take over.” I joked.
“You are not serious, Rayim. He will be very, very crossed. He is very jealous, and the first thing he will do will be to report you to Mr. Sayou. He will realize that you are the one they have been looking for. That would be game over for you and for me.”
“Alright, I understand. In that case, I have to hide myself. Where is the one place in the house that he can’t dare to go to?” I asked.
“My parents’ bedroom.”
“Alright, show me the way.”
She dragged me into her parents’ room and entreated me to stay as silent as possible. When she was about to leave me all to myself so that she could go open the door for her boyfriend, I pulled her back, brought her close to me, looked into her eyes intently and spoke.
“Stephanie, can I trust you?” I asked seriously.
“What are you talking about?”
“You are going to leave me all alone in this bedroom. What if you go now and report me to your boyfriend. What if the two of you go and set me up?”
“There is a possibility that I can do a thing like that. However, for some strange reason, I can’t. I mean I won’t.” She spoke and smiled.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, I am.”
“Stephanie, I am putting my life into your hands. Please, don’t try to set me up. If I realized that I have been setup, I might have no choice but to use my gun. You know what that means. That would mean your life and that of your beloved boyfriend would be on the line. When I shoot, I never miss. I might be a cop, but I am also a gunslinger.” I half threatened her.
“It’s alright, Rayim. Don’t be afraid, the living room is just next door. You will be able to hear our entire conversation. I won’t do anything foolish.” She assured me.
“Alright, against all odds, I have decided to trust you.”
As she was about to leave, I pulled her close to me again and put a hand on her soft behind. She didn’t resist. Instead, she looked at me strangely. Then gently, she detached herself from me and we to let her boyfriend in, but not after making sure the bedroom door was perfectly locked.
“What took you so long?” He boyfriend asked as soon as he got into the house. His voice sounded angry. “You know how I hate to be kept waiting.”
“I am sorry, I was still in bed. I was still sleeping.” She apologized.
“What kind of a sleep is that?”
“Please, calm down, Kameni. Have you forgotten that it was already late when I left your house last night? When did you think, I was supposed to have the time to catch up on all the sleep I lost?” She asked him angrily.
“I am sorry, na.” Kameni, her boyfriend, tried to calm her down.
“It’s alright. So, what brought you here this early?” She asked.
“I just came to make sure you are ok. I heard the village crier going around town announcing that there were armed robbers in the village. One can’t be too careful.” Kameni replied.
“That is true. I heard, too, and thank you for being caring. However, tell me the truth. What other reason is there for your coming? Don’t you dare try to lie to me. Remember, I know you very well.” She spoke, eying him quizzically.
“Alright, alright, I accept.” He laughed. “I came to see if there was breakfast.”
“You see your life.” She laughed.
After she had served Kameni food, and he had finished eating, instead of him to be on his way, the sango wanted sex. However, all his attempts were rebuffed by Stephanie, and he couldn’t understand why.
“What is wrong with you, Stephanie? You have never refused me sex.”
“I know, but I am just tired. You know when I left your house last night. We had two serious rounds. It hasn’t been up to even eight hours, and you already want some again?” She asked, trying not to make him understand. It seemed she was afraid to get him angry.
“Yes, that is true, but there are days, we have made love multiple times in one day.” He insisted.
“Look at you, all the small breakfast you have eaten, you want to come and finish it on a woman. I beg, go. Alright, I will come and see you at night after work, alright?”
“Okay, I will be waiting.” He agreed grudgingly, pecked her and left.
What a relief to see him go. As soon as Stephanie was sure that he was really gone, she came back to the bedroom and met me. I gave her a queer look that made her feel uncomfortable.
“What?” She asked, looking at me shyly.
“I am jealous.”
“Of who? Kameni? Please, don’t do. You have no reason to, or do you?” She gave me a sideways glance.
“It seems he has such a strong hold over you. Do you really love him?”
“Love! Does love exist? He normally shouldn’t be my kind of guy. But what can I do. The poverty in this village is alarming. He takes care of me and my parents because he works in the timber company. So, I am just with him because he provides.”
“So, you are saying if you should meet a better man, you are going to let him go?” I asked, waiting for the opportunity to pounce.
“It’s not like I don’t feel something for him, Rayim. I am not that selfish. The problem is that he takes advantage of my family’s poverty. He keeps reminding me of it, he even beats me sometimes. He makes love to me whenever he wants, and I can’t say no even when I am not in the mood, for obvious reason.” She had started crying.
I pulled her close to me, and with her head resting on my shoulders, I patted her on the back and tried to calm her down. I marveled at how far things had escalated. Just a few hours ago, she had been very afraid of me. Now, all of a sudden, she was beginning to see me as a confidant and as a consoler. I was however, enjoying the whole thing.
Because she was sad, her guard was down. Back in my days in the military academy, the one thing they thought us extensively was psychology. So, as the good psychologist that I had now become, I was able to study her and concluded that she would be very vulnerable at that moment. So, I took my chances.
I raised her head and began wiping her tears, first with my hands, and then with my mouth. Before I could realize our mouths had met. It looked like she too, really wanted it. That was because as soon as our mouths met, she grabbed my lips and started kissing me ravenously. That was exactly what I wanted, and I complied fully.
All the running and hiding and the near-death experiences I had had last night had increased my appetite for sex. Humans react differently to different types of situations. Some other person would have been too afraid and uncomfortable to even think about sex. However, I was not some other person. I was bad guy, Rayim. Apart from doing police work, my other job was to charm ladies along the way. So, I had to do what I had to do.
There was no time for preliminaries because I had to bear in mind that I was waiting for the morning train. I had to escape by it when the opportunity presented itself. With that in mind, I carried her and dumped her carelessly on her parents’ bed. I raise her mini skirt, shifted her loose panties and was about to enter, but she stopped me.
“Not so soon na.” She complained.
“Why?”
“I am not yet prepared.”
“But you know we don’t have time. We have to do it sharp-sharp.”
“Na so!! Very soon, you will go and I will never see you again. I want you to touch me small first.”
“Alright, if that is what you want, I will do it.”
I removed her blouse and began sucking the two mounds that came out invitingly. She arched her back in pleasure and began moaning. It was dangerous for her to moan when we were in such a precarious situation. However, I didn’t want to interrupt her fun, since like she rightly said, we might never meet again. So, I let her moan freely. However, when it became too loud, I was forced to start kissing her again in order to muffle her moans. At the same time, I used my hands to explore the most sensitive parts of her body, and the pleasure drove her mad.
“Okay, bae. I am ready now. You can enter now.” She spoke.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, I am sure.”
I shifted her panties again, and slid my very hard LGA inside. She gasped when I did so. As we pleasured each other, we completely forgot the danger we both in, and the risk she was taking, hosting a wanted man in her house.
“Let’s come into an agreement.” I spoke.
“What?”
“Would you want to release or you just want to make me happy?” I asked.
“No, which happiness? With me, it’s fifty-fifty. I want to feel it too. Why did you ask? Do you want to release already?”
“Yes, you are too sweet, and I am out of time.”
“Okay, let me come on top.”
She came on top and rode very hard until we both came at the same time. Sweating and breathing, we laid in each other’s arms until I started feeling sleepy. Can you blame me, for almost two days, I hadn’t had any decent sleep. She, however, shook me and brought me back to my senses.
“It’s time for you to go. I know a shortcut that will take you close to the railway terminal without anyone noticing.” She spoke.
“Okay.” I replied, waking up and zipping up.
When I was ready to go, I checked my guns, and they were all in good condition. I would have loved to drop some of them because I had up to four guns with me. Remember, I had made it my business to take the guns of some of the people I killed. However, the guns were all of different make. So, their bullets couldn’t fit in another gun. Therefore, I was compelled to continue carrying all of them.
“Alight, Stephanie, I have to go now.” I declared.
“I will miss you, Rayim. It’s been just about ten hours since I found you. However, it feels like forever. Will you ever come back for me?”
“Of course, I will come back for you. When all this is over, I will come back to this village and take you to the city with me.” I told her.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, I am sure.”
“Please, Rayim, tell me you are not joking.”
“Stephanie, I am a cop. I don’t say anything unless I am serious about it.” I assured her.
“Alright, Rayim, I believe you. You look like a good man to me. Let’s go, please. We have to be cautious.”
“Are you sure you will wait for me?” I asked.
“Of course, I will. Why?”
“How about Kameni?”
“I can handle him. Now that I have met you, he doesn’t seem that important to me anymore. Just keep to your promise, please.”
“Alright, I will. However, I have a small message for Kameni, your foolish boyfriend.”
“What is that?”
“Tell him to backoff” I laughed, and she laughed back.
She held my hand and we both walked to the back door. I was in front and as I opened it, I regretted immediately. Standing outside as if they had been waiting, were two of Mr. Sayou’s gunmen. Their guns were both drawn and were pointing at me. Standing beside them, was Kameni, Stephanie’s boyfriend. I went for my gun, but one of them warned calmly.
“Touch your gun and you are dead.”
