THE ORDEALS OF NNEOMA

Episode 15

*****

In no time, they got to a nearby private hospital. The nurses on duty saw her condition and quickly called the doctor, but they gave her some inject!0ns that would control the flow of the bl00.d.

When the doctor came, she was still bl££ding profusely. So he examined her body and asked Stella some questions concerning Dera’s situation, to which she provided the answers genuinely.

The doctor then prescribed some medication that would control the flow and relieve the pa!n.

He requested that Dera should be carried to the diagnostics unit for an abdominal scan and some lab tests.

They did as the doctor requested and Dera was later carried back to the ward. Her mother stayed with her.

Later on, Stella went and collected the scan and test results. The results were given to the doctor as he came to check on Dera.

The doctor went through the results meticulously and called Stella aside.

“Madam her condition isn’t good at all, she had a severe uterine rupture and this condition is life-threatening. The only way to save her life is by undergoing a hysterectomy.”

“Please I don’t understand doctor.”

“That concoction she took had left severe ruptures in her womb, that’s why she is still bl££d!ng and won’t stop. We need to do something fast.”

“Please doctor what can we do about it? Please save my daughter.”

“The only solution now is to remove her womb.”

“What!, Is there no other remedy?”

“I’m sorry, that’s the only way to save her life now.”

“Oh my God, what is all this now? I have destroyed my daughter,” Stella said as she started shedding tears.

“Just a minute, I’ll be right back,” the doctor said and left the ward.

Stella wiped her tears and went back to where her daughter was.

She looked at her daughter and remembered all the doctor said and started shedding tears again.

“Mummy, what’s the problem, will I die?” Dera said amidst tears.

“No you will not die, the doctor said you need to undergo surgery before the bl££d!ng stops.”

“I heard him say my womb will be removed, will I be fine after the removal.”

“You will be fine, that womb removal is my problem,” Stella said still crying.

“I’m sorry my daughter, that is the only way to save your life now,” Stella continued.

“Mummy, I don’t want to die.”

Stella held her daughter’s hand and wept uncontrollably.

A few minutes later, the doctor came back and Stella informed him that they were ready for the surgery.

It was already getting late so the necessary procedures were followed and in no time Dera was dressed up for surgery.

The orderlies carried her to the theatre while Stella stayed back at the ward weeping.

As all these were happening, she never told her husband about what was going on.

Stella was in the ward sitting hopelessly when her phone started ringing. She brought it out and it was her husband. She refused to pick up the call. Her phone rang three more times but she refused to pick up the calls.

About an hour later, Dera was brought out from the theatre with drip hung on a stand and carried back to the ward.

Immediately Stella saw them coming, she quickly stood up to see how she was but she was still sleeping.

The orderlies gently put her to bed and left. Her mother moved her chair close to the bed and sat down watching Dera closely as she slept.

She was just watching her and thinking of what to tell her husband when the doctor entered. He checked the drip and adjusted the flow.

“Madam, your daughter will be fine but she needs to rest at the moment.”

“Okay, doctor.”

Stella then picked up her phone and called her husband. He quickly picked up.

“Where are you,” he said over the phone panting.

“We are fine, Dera had a high fever. So I rushed her to the hospital.”

“Which hospital?”

“St. Luke Hospital but please don’t bother coming, it’s already too late. She’s fine now but sleeping. You can come tomorrow.”

“Okay.”

Stella was not ready to tell her husband the truth. She was thinking of a better way to cover up what was happening.
