SOPHIA Episode 6 by Praises Chidera Obiora

Sophia wrapped her legs behind mine and leaned backward.

“Hold me, Praises. Hold me?”

She screamed like one falling off a cliff.

I held her with my both hands before she could reach the floor.

She laughed as I pulled her up. Sophia held my shoulders and slid her soft hands to my chest.

“You are so strong and chested.”

“Sophia…” I whispered.

“Praises, what is it?”

“You said I will have to come back here every day for six days until you are pregnant.”

She inhaled and exhaled deeply.

“I will be a witch to know if you will get me pregnant if we should make love tonight. But just to be on the safer side, I am ready to go through this with you for six days. You don’t have to go. You can choose to stay here with me until the job is done.”

I was silent for a moment.

Several thoughts went through my mind as I stared at her portrait painting hung on the wall.

Ten million naira was a huge sum of money for me. It would change my life in a split second. I thought of my old mother whose only dream was to live a better life but sacrificed all to ensure we had the best.

I thought of my father, who wore an old cover shoe and cloth for years, but ensured I had varieties to change into.

This was my chance to change their lives and make them proud of me. This was my chance to say thank you to them for all they’ve done.

When I get back home, they will see me, embrace me, and ask how my journey had gone. And as usual, they will be expecting me to bring home bread, just as I usually do. But instead, I will come home with the finest cars, and spray a bunch of money on them while they dance.

I’m sure they will ask where I had gotten the money from. Especially my mother. She is very inquisitive.

She will think I had joined yahoo and was now into internet fraud. But they trusted me. They knew I wouldn’t get my hands into any shady deals. I would simply tell them how I met a politician whom I helped save his life and he decided to give me ten million and an exotic car.

But then I thought again.

My mother would want to meet the politician just to thank him. Since he was a politician, my father would listen to the network news just to hear about the politician that was saved by his son.

I changed my mind.

That wouldn’t work.

Maybe I should tell them I won a lottery and a car. Wouldn’t they ask which lottery company gave me a car?

Anyhow I chose to present my sudden wealth, I had to still explain the source and how I got the money to lavish around. Most especially, I had to show evidence or my parents will have nothing to do with my wealth.

I can’t tell them their son impregnated a woman for ten million naira and a car. They will be disappointed and ask where I had dropped my home training? I don’t even know if they will understand or judge me.

At that moment, I decided that I will just live a low life and make my growth slow and steady while I spend my cash until I discover a proper way to explain my growth.

Sophia tapped my cheeks jolting me back to reality.

I shuddered and stared at her.

I realized I had already spent the money in my head, but physically, I was still yet to do the job.

I was holding onto Sophia’s waist and staring into her eyes.

“Sophia, what if I do it tonight, take the money and car, and never return again?”

Sophia laughed and let go of my hands.

She sat on the cushion and stared at me.

Then she laughed again.

“Is that what you men do?”

“How do you mean?”

“Once you get the sex and the money, the next thing you think of doing is to run away? Is that what you men do? Is there no one who will stand out and be sincere for once?”

“I was only asking because…”

“You were asking because that is one of the options that crossed your mind the moment I threw the offer at your table. From the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh, and that is what you just portrayed. You plan to do it, get paid, and run away with my money and car huh?”

“Sophia, I haven’t told you that I plan to do it yet. I am only surprised at the amount of trust you’ve placed in me. Why didn’t you think of paying me after you’ve gotten pregnant? Why didn’t you give me half of the money first and pay the balance later? Why do you want to pay me all the amount needed for the job when you know I could run away and you will never find me again? You don’t even know me. You don’t know my house, where I live, or where I am coming from.”

Sophia leaned on the cushion and stared piercingly into my eyes.

“Praises, you remind me of Joshua. He was just like you. And when I made him this same offer, he asked these same questions. He was scared at first. He acted just the way you are acting now. He thought I was evil and when he realized I wasn’t what he thought I was, he took advantage of my good heart and ran off with my money.”

“Who is Joshua?”

Sophia chuckled.

“Joshua Adeleke Pius. A young handsome guy whom I met in the club with his friends. He wasn’t a gigolo like the other men I have met. This one was young, strong, dark, and muscular. I was attracted to him most when I saw how composed and alone he was in the club. Such an innocent soul. But just like they say, you can’t judge a book by its cover.”

“Did you also pay him to impregnate you?”

“No. It was never on my mind. But I didn’t mind if it later happened or not. All I wanted that night was someone who would put me out of my sad memories. That was the reason I went to the club to drink in the first place. I got drunk and he was nice to bring me home. That night, he didn’t take advantage of me even when I told him to. I felt this guy was different. And when I told him I wanted to carry his baby, and I was willing to make him rich if he did it, he was shocked. I made payments into his account just to show him how serious I was. But Joshua absconded a few days later with my money.”

“Where did he abscond to?”

“Croatia. A country he knew I wouldn’t come looking for him.”

“And you found him?”

“I did. I find whoever I want to find.”

“Did you arrest him?”

Sophia chuckled. She stood up and walked to the flower vase. She stood in front of it and touched its flowers.

“I killed him.”

“What?”

Sophia turned to me.

“I am a very loving person, Praises. I have a soft heart. A very soft one. And women like me, are usually taken advantage of by men because we give all and trust completely. When I like you, I like you with all of my heart. But when I hate you, I hate you and wish you never existed.”

She walked to me.

Held me by my shirt.

“I am trusting you Praises, and that is why I am willing to pay you even before the job is completed. If you betray my trust by running away, I will find you. Don’t ask me how I will, but I will find you and when I do. I will not arrest you. I will k*ll you.”

I folded my fist and stepped back.

Sophia held me and pulled me back.

“Are you scared?”

I shook my head.

“I am not.”

“So, why did you step back?”

“I have decided not to take your offer. I have decided to just sleep here on the cushion until tomorrow morning.”

Sophia Chuckled.

She left my shirt and walked to the cushion to sit down. She spread her legs wide open like one about to rip a chicken apart. My eyes went under the towel. I realized Sophia was not putting on a pant. I quickly turned my eyes away. She crossed her legs and chuckled again.

“Praises, you think I brought you to my house to spend the night? Huh? Is that what you think? Do you think I care if you got arrested or attacked on the road? Do you think so?”

“Why did you bring me here then?”

“To shoot my shot. That is the reason I brought you here. And I hate it when I get rejected and pushed aside like an old cargo.”

“But you are not. What you are asking me to do is not morally right, Sophia. It is against my beliefs as a Christian. It is not something I will do as a person.”

“Apart from writing, what else do you do?”

“Why do you ask?”

“Answer my question.”

“Scriptwriting.”

“It’s still a form of writing.”

“But it pays my bills.”

“I know it does. Don’t you have a business or something?”

“I am very comfortable.”

“Don’t you have a business or something?”

“DERAP Group, a subsidiary of Derap Publications. It’s my business. Soon to be established. It is 90% ready and will soon be launched before the year runs out. I will be printing and selling Children’s story books in all schools, markets, and offices across the country. My goal is to ensure every child reads a story book every day.”

Sophia stood up and clapped her hands.

She walked toward me slowly.

Still clapping and smiling.

“Beautiful. DERAP publications. You want to own a printing press. Lots of story books. Now imagine what ten million naira will do for you and your business. Imagine it. Imagine how many you could print. Imagine the dispatch cars you will buy. Just imagine the number of people you can employ. Imagine.”

Sophia walked to the bar. She picked a pack of orange juice and poured it into two glass cups.

“Sophia, I already did. Look, I understand. I know what you want. I know you need a child and you are ready to get it at all costs even if it means paying for it. But you see, I am not the man for this job. Even if I wanted to do it, I wouldn’t want my first seed to come out this way. How do I impregnate you for money and sell my child to you? My conscience will not let me rest. It will haunt me. I don’t want to do it. Yes, you may have not brought me here to spend the night, but now that you know my final decision I will love to take my leave.”

I walked to the door and discovered it had no door knob. I tried pushing it back and forth and it didn’t open.

“It is an electronic door, Praises. It opens at my command.”

I turned to her.

Sophia was holding the glasses of juice in her hands.

“You said you don’t drink wine. So will you drink some juice with me? Before you go?”

“Thank you. I don’t feel like.”

“Come on, Praises. I may be desperate. Yes. I may be harsh too. I accept. But I love to make good friends. Especially with men like you who stand their ground in situations like this. You have proven to me that you know what you want and you are determined to get it right. Sincerely, your type of person is rare and I will be honored to be your friend and support you and your dreams. Let’s drink to friendship.”

I stared into Sophia’s eyes. She stretched the glass of drink further. I walked to her and collected the glass from her.

“To friendship.” She muttered in whispers.

I nodded my head and gulped down the juice.

Sophia dropped hers.

She never drank.

I dropped my empty glass on the stool beside Sophia’s glass of juice, lifted my eyes, and stared at her.

“Do you need more?” She asked.

I shook my head.

“No, thank you.”

“You like it?”

“Yes. I do. It is nice.”

Sophia smiled.

“I can tell. With the way you gulped down everything, I knew you liked it. You don’t get this type of drink in Nigeria.”

“Where did you get it?”

“Hungary. It is a foreign juice from Hungary. I got it when I visited my friend, Tricia. She loves juices. Just like you, she doesn’t like wine. So she buys a lot of them and stocks them up in her store. I came home with two. Drank one and I am left with one. Joshua drank half of it and this is remaining.”

“Joshua? Same Joshua you told me about?”

“Yes. When he was still with me. It was after I had gotten rid of him, that was when this whole idea of having a child came up. If it wasn’t for him, I would have still been living my life the way I do. But I am someone who loves to finish what I have started. So since I started it with him, I should finish it.”

“You… You didn’t drink yours. Why?”

“I am not a juice lover.”

I stared at the empty glass. My heart began to pound like one pounding hot yam in a mortar. I thought about several things at once. What if Sophia had poisoned my drink because I knew a secret no one knew. What if she wanted to kill me just like she killed Joshua and ended his life.

“O Praises, stop looking at the juice. Do you really think I will kill you?”

“If you didn’t have any plans to kill me, why didn’t you drink your juice.”

Sophia loosened her towel, letting it glide down her huge breast like melted ice. I turned my eyes away as she began to walk sexily toward me.

“What are you doing? Sophia.” I whispered faintly.

Sophia held me by my shoulders and kissed my neck. I held her hands as she attempted to unbutton my shirt.

“Stop. I told you I do not want to do this with you. Please stop.”

“Praises, how long will you keep lying to yourself, huh. Tell me. How long?”

Her left hand grabbed my trousers. I gasped and grabbed her hands quickly.

Sophia chuckled and whispered in my ears.

“You do not want to do it, yet you are already hard down here.”

“It’s not me being hard. It’s my body responding to the touch coming from a naked woman.  What do expect?”

“Then do it.”

She rubbed my head with her soft hands, kissed my lips, and ripped my shirt apart with her hands.

“Do it.”

“Sophia.”

“What are you waiting for? Your body wants me. Give to your body what your body wants.”

“Sometimes you need to deprive your body of some pleasures and keep your decency as a man. My body wants you now. But my spirit does not want you.”

Sophia rubbed my head like a child. She lifted my hands and placed them on her firm breast.

“Squeeze it.”

“No.”

She pushed me on the cushion. Like an over ripe mango, I fell on the cushion and sat there like a vegetable.

My bones were weak. My eyes felt sleepy even though I struggled to keep them open.

Sophia knelt on the floor and unzipped my trousers.

“The juice you gave me to drink. Did you drug me?”

“Tonight is my night, Praises. When you stepped foot in this house, you did not expect to win over a woman like me. Did you?”

I heaved a sigh.

Muttered to myself.

“It is finished.”

And shut my heavy eyes.

SOPHIA 10 by Praises Chidera Obiora

The knock on the door jolted me up from sleep. It was so loud.

I wiped my eyes and cleaned the saliva rolling down the side of my mouth. I looked around me trying to figure out where I was.

Then I remembered Sophia. I remembered the glass of juice. I remembered the sexiness of her naked body. I remembered everything and felt my body with my hands.

I was shirtless.

My heart raced.

I quickly lifted the blanket and found out that my boxers were still on. I turned left and couldn’t find my trousers and shoes.

I stood up from the bed and looked around me. I opened the only closed door in the room and discovered it was a bathroom.

It was the most luxurious bathroom I had ever seen. The bathtub was made of gold and the toilet was gold too.

I searched around.

I pulled open the wardrobe door and found a pair of trousers and a brand new shirt neatly hung on the hanger. My phone and a silver glass wristwatch were placed on the shelves. A new set of shoes were below the first stand of the wardrobe.

Those clothes were not mine. I searched around with my eyes. All I wanted was my clothes.

The knock sounded again.

“Who is that?”

“Room service.”

“Room service?”

“Yes sir.”

It was the voice of a female. I grabbed the white towel hung on the bathroom door, wrapped it around my waist, and rushed to the door. When I opened it, a slender-looking lady walked in holding a tray in her hands.

“Good morning, sir. Hope you had a wonderful night?

“Where am I?”

“You came in together with one of our customers yesterday.”

“Yes, I remember I did. But I was at her house.”

“No sir. You were here all night.”

“Where is this place?”

“Sorry sir, our hotel has no name.”

“Hotel? No, it seems you don’t understand me. I saw her cars outside. I counted them. They were seven exotic cars when we came in last night. She drove in the eighth car and she said they were all her cars.”

“Those cars are the cars of our customers, sir. You must have misinterpreted her words.”

“How do you mean? This is her house. Look, when she entered this house the door opened for her. She said the door only opens for her.”

“Sir, the doors and gates are all controlled from a special control room upstairs. The controller opens the doors and gates for customers.”

“But she went into the room and emerged naked with a towel. She wanted to take her bath? How can you tell me that the house I saw was not a house but a hotel? Does a hotel have a sitting room?”

“That is our waiting room, sir.”

“Waiting room? How comes there was no receptionist? How comes there was no one else in there when we came in?”

“Sir, our waiting room is designed to look like a sitting room just to make our clients comfortable whenever they have a guest. Is this your first time here?”

I looked around.

“What is this place.”

“This is a hotel, sir. But it is not like any other hotels that you must have heard of or visited. This is a very private one and it is designed to be so because of the activities that happen here. Our hotel is run and controlled by women only. We only allow men into this hotel if they come in with their clients. Not to worry, the secretes of our customers are very safe with us. We do not reveal any information. And about our customer moving naked, it is a normal thing here. Since this hotel is mostly visited by women; registered women who are our customers, they tend to move around naked. I am sure if you had been awake last night, you would have had the pleasure to see a lot of them.”

“A lot of them?”

She dropped my plate of food on the center table and cleared her throat.

“This is your breakfast, sir.”

“Where are my clothes?”

“She ordered a new one for you from the boutique. It should be in your wardrobe.”

“Who?”

“The woman you came in with last night.”

“Those are not my clothes. I need my clothes.”

“Sir, those clothes, shoes, and wristwatch she got you cost over three hundred thousand naira. Why do you still need your old clothes? If you don’t like it we could change it for you.”

“I just need my clothes and shoes. Just bring them to me. Why will she pick my clothes without my consent? Why will she bring me to a hotel room without my consent? Take off my shirt and boxer without my consent. Do you people rent your rooms to ritualists? Is she a ritualist?”

“I am sorry, sir. But I don’t know what you are talking about. I thought you both had an agreement together.”

“What agreement?”

“You mean you are not… You are not like the other guys?”

“Just give me my clothes, please.”

“Okay, I will ask for it and bring it to you. It will be brought to you, sir. Here is your food. Lunch will be served later on. What would you like to have for lunch?”

“Who will pay for lunch? I didn’t even order breakfast. Did she pay for the food?”

“Yes sir. She did. She paid for 6days. So you have this room to yourself for six days and you can also enjoy our services. There is a gym, a swimming pool, and a cinema.”

“She paid for 6 days?”

“Yes, she did.”

“Why? Why?”

I grabbed my head with my hands and sat on the bed.

I was frustrated.

“Why will she do this to me? Why will she do this to me? What kind of d*vil did I encounter. Why? So even after telling her that I was not interested, she still went on to do what she wanted to do? And even had the guts to pay for Six days? I feel so used. I want to strangle her.”

“I am sorry, sir. What are you talking about?”

“Just give me my clothes and take your breakfast along with you. I don’t need it. I am leaving.”

“But sir…”

“Don’t call me sir again. Pick up your food and leave me alone. Just leave me.”

She picked up the tray and walked out of the room, closing the door behind her.

“Bring me my clothes. That is all I want.”

I grabbed my phone and scrolled through my contact. I was searching for a number to call. I wanted someone I could trust. Someone I could tell all I had been through.

I was still searching when Sophia’s call came in through my phone.

I picked it.

“Why?”

“You shouldn’t have shouted at her. She has nothing to do with this.”

“Why did you do this to me?”

She heaved.

“Praises, won’t you ask me how I got access to your password and was able to save my number on your phone and also pick out your number?”

“Why did you do this to me? Why?”

“I like you, Praises. I like you a lot. You see I went through your phone while you slept. I am sorry I did that, but I was only curious to know some things about you. I saw a lot of pictures. You have a wonderful family and sweet parents too.”

“You lied to me. You told me it was your house. Yet you brought me to a hotel room.”

“I see you don’t want the conversation to go my way. Well, would you have followed me if I had told you I was heading to a hotel room with you? Moreover, I am a very smart woman. You don’t expect me to bring a man whom I planned to f*uck and have a child for to my house. This whole thing was supposed to be a secrete remember? So don’t you think it would be inappropriate for me to reveal my identity just like that? O, I see, you never thought about that? You thought a woman who will pick up a gigolo on the street on a cold lonely night, will be stupid enough to take him to her house where she leaves. So that tomorrow he will come pointing at my house? You were not smart enough. Poor guy.”

Tears rolled down my eyes as she spoke. I couldn’t believe how much of a fo*l I was. All I wanted was the truth. All I wanted was to know if she did it.

I pressed the phone to my ears.

“Sophia, did you do it?”
