CHAPTER 5
Tracy took the phone from Cynthia. She checked who was calling her and it was Dorathy. She held her chest and sighed in relief. Go back inside and wait for me she said to Cynthia and moved away a bit. She then picked the call...Tracy: Hello Dorathy… I am finished.. (In a low tone)
Dorathy : What do you mean by you are finished this early morning? What happened?
Tracy: Since yesterday’s morning Dera went to sell the oranges I gave her. She has not come back till now.
Dorathy : what do you mean she hasn’t come back? Where did she go to?
Tracy: I don’t know… I don’t know ( in a worried tone)
Dorathy: I called you for something else and now this is the news I get. Just wait for me okay?
I’ll be right there now.
Hangs up..
It took a few minutes , Dorathy immediately made it to Tracy's house. Tracy was seated outside on the bench when she walked in. Tracy explained everything she had told her on the phone.
Do not panic yet Dorathy said tapping Tracy on her knees. Call your husband and tell him Dera ran away with your money.
My husband will never believe that Tracy said shaking her head. He trusts and loves Dera alot so he won’t believe.
Dorathy thought for a while... I have the perfect idea she said with a smile.
Tell me...Tell me Tracy said anxiously…
Tell him that Dera left for school in the morning and never came back. You went to the school and the school authorities said she never came to the school. Tell him you searched for her everywhere but didn't find her. Also tell him you tried his number but it wasn't reachable the whole of yesterday.
That is a nice idea Tracy said nodding her head. Let me try it she said and dialed Kennedy's number immediately and told him everything as Dorathy had suggested in a teary voice.
It all felt like a drama to Kennedy who told her he will be coming back immediately to look for his daughter.
Tracy was happy and thanked Dorathy for helping her out. She asked Dorathy to wait for her while she gets her children ready for school and they all will go out at the same time.
When Tracy went inside, Dorathy pushed her lips up mocking Tracy. I will make sure you won’t only loose Dera but your husband too just like me. I can’t be divorced and you will be living happily with your family. we two won’t be happy Dorathy said rolling her eyes.
After much argument, one of the guys noticed the car door where Dera sat was open. He went to check and couldn't find Dera anywhere. He alerted his friend who left the argument and joined him searching for Dera around in confusion. They started going backwards to see if they would encounter Dera.
They noticed an accident had taken place across the road as people were gathering. They quickly rushed down to the scene of the accident. They saw it was Dera lying down helpless in a her own blóôd.
Going to claim Dera will draw lots of attention on them which can implicate them later. So they left the scene immediately.
People who had gathered brought out their phones and started taking pictures of Dera who was on the tarred road fighting for her life. A man who was following two cars behind the car that had knocked Dera down. Came down from his car to know what was happening. He saw a little girl lying down in her own blóôd on the tarred road.
He quickly carried her and placed her into his car and left the scene with two other concerned people to the hospital.
He drove quickly, it didn't take long before they got to the hospital along the road. Dera was quickly taken in by the nurses. That carried her into the ward.
A doctor was called immediately to come and attend to Dera who was on the verge of death. The doctor went in quickly...
Few minutes later, the doctor came out, she told the man who had just brought Dera in that Dera needed blood as she has just lost a lot of it. Both the man and those who accompanied him to bring Dera to the hospital were tested but their blood didn't match.
The doctor who was treating Dera was willing to donate her blood but couldn't because her blood didn't match that of Dera either.
The man who had brought Dera to the hospital paid for blood from the blood bank and the blood transfusion started. The other two persons who had come with the unknown Samaritan left back to their families because it was late already.
Dera had injuries all over her body and had broken an arm. It's been 13hrs after the blood transfusion but Dera was still in a coma.
But sir what really happened?Were you the one who knocked her down Doctor Eunice asked looking concerned.
No I heard people saying someone ahead of me had knocked her down and fled the scene when he saw blóôd.
People of this generation are really loosing it. Do you know that they were snapping this girl as she struggled for her life instead of taking her to the hospital?
So someone knocked down this little girl and fled? People are really heartless Doctor Eunice said.
Doctor....Doctor …. One of the nurses called out.
Doctor Eunice ran back inside and saw Dera was awake. After few minutes, Dera was ready to talk. So the doctor called the man into the ward. Where am I ? Dera asked holding her head.
You got knocked down by a speeding vehicle yesterday. But you are okay now.
So tell me, What is your name Doctor Eunice asked Dera with a smile . Dera held her head again trying to remember..
Then she said softly…
My name ...
My name is Dera ....Dera can you give me the numbers of your guardian or parents so I can call them….
Or maybe tell me where you are from…
Dera looked left and right then held her head.
I can't remember who my parents are. I don't know where I am from Dera said and tears rolled down her cheeks. She held her head again in pains and the doctor helped her lie down.
The doctor took the man to her office and told him that Dera had hit her head on the floor. So it may take a while before she regains her memory.
He asked the man to sign some papers and take Dera home with him. The man told doctor Eunice that he can't take Dera home because he lives in a different city. He had come just to see someone and will be going back soon.
His wife won't be happy with him, if he goes back with Dera. He then suggested to doctor Eunice to take in Dera and stay with her till she remembers who she is.
Doctor Eunice thought for a while and accepted to go back home with Dera. After she had signed the necessary papers with the hospital authority, Doctor Eunice went home with Dera.
It was still afternoon and no one was home. Doctor Eunice's husband was not yet home. She decided to give Dera a shower since her arm was broken.
